Even after reading some reviews we went. Yes the interior may be a little worn and the atmosphere may be a little greasy, but hey it's called the Fat Shack. The fam and I went in and each had a fat sandwich. My choice was the Fat Doobey. Awesome. We all enjoyed our large sandwiches and their cheese fries. For desert we had the Fried Oreos (try the strawberry sauce). They were so good we actually felt like we were at the fair. Just the owner was there working all parts. We had all our food (5 sandwiches, 4 fries, 10 fried Oreos, and a milk shake) within 15 minutes. Look, some of the reviews are obviously personal or they were just having a bad day. Fat Shack has a very interesting concept going. Stuffing everything inside a hoagie bun is very interesting. However it was dry. We got the regular (9inch) Fat Bronco. It had chicken strips, french fries, mozzarella, sticks, and marinara sauce. All stuffed inside my hoagie bun. It was good. The employee said she uses ranch as well and that saved the day for me. Very helpful and efficient workers. The lady that we visited with actually recommended the burgers. But we were there to try their specialized item. Next time we will try the burger. read more

This was the best burger that I've had in Bryan/College Station in years. Greasy goodness! The sauce seems to be a ketchup/mayo combination so if you prefer mustard or something you should have mentioned it. I deducted 1 star because my burger sat for a while before being brought out to me so it wasn't as hot as it could have been. But it was still fantastic. Unsure why they forgot to add onions. Ok so there's a lot going on at the College Station FS. Went in around 5-5:30 with my wife to get our family dinner. The entire restaurant was discusting. Greasey floors, counters, walls and doors. Sauce smears on the tables, dirty stools/ chairs trash and napkins lying on floors and tables. The older woman at the counter couldn't ring our order in for some reason and had to do it 5 times, still not getting the order right. She kept going into the kitchen and asking the guy there, assuming he was the mgr, how to ring it up. It took almost 20 minutes to order, luckily there was nobody else in the place. Finally I just gave up because we wanted to get the food home and eat. Then it took almost 30 minutes for the food to be made. I'm guessing the bulk of the food sales are online, because people kept coming in and picking up food but ours never seemed to get done. Finally the woman said it was ready and apologized for the hour it took, offering us free fried oreos for the inconvenience. We declined and just bolted to get home to our kids we the $80+ meal of sandwiches and fries no drinks. Only to find that my double bacon cheese burger was no where to be found. I called and spoke to a man who said, he remembered, and apologized, he'd write it down and put it in a folder, so I could come back later and get it. Because after waiting for an hour, I had no desire to go back and wait another. I went back to get it and the only person working couldn't find anything. The restaurant lobby, kitchen and seating areas are still filthy and disgusting so it is the norm and not a one time thing. The girl working called the guy, who is the mgr and he couldn't help her. This place is a scam. They claim they have half-price wings on Sunday nights starting at 11 PM until close. When I got to the store, I ordered wings but the cashier told me that the deal stopped at midnight because it was technically Monday. He said his boss made this rule. I asked if I could talk to his boss, but he wasn't there. This is essentially a scam, given that they are open till 1 AM on Sundays. Otherwise, the burgers are mid and the sandwiches are dry despite the inclusion of a lot of sauce. We all had the cheeseburger lunch special. And it was pretty darn good. For instance, daughter #1 "yeah it was good, with a shake of the head right and left, the fries were really good. Double fried." Daughter #2: at several points throughout the meal "wow this burger is really good" which says a lot for Someone who usually doesn't comment on the food. I had ordered this place via DoorDash for me and a group of friends. Overall the food was pretty good. I think the stand outs were the burgers and fried Oreos. I want to let you know that they are substantially dipped in funnel cake batter. As I was eating one I thought I was eating a donut. I live in the area and visit the barbershop next door. There was a little wait for the barber and since it was lunch time, I was hungry, and I had time to kill - why not try a place new? To start I'm a little of a foodie who worked in the restaurant and bar scene for over 7 years, and the name of the place had me intrigued for some gluttonous indulgence. Upon walking in the staff were very responsive and warmly welcomed me to the restaurant and greeted me. I told them it was my first time here, so I spent a minute looking over the menu and chose the regular size philly cheese steak. I asked if it comes with fries and a drink - no its an upcharge for a meal, so I decided to do the onion rings and soft drink combo. The meal came out to be a little over $20. I was pretty shocked by this, but thought maybe it's really large portions or maybe this is the best damn food I'll try all year. I go ahead and swipe. 5-10 minutes later I was greeted when an even friendlier member of the staff delivered my steaming hot food. She brought me ketchup and asked if I needed anything else - I declined and thanked her. The Cheese Steak: It came out rolled in a hoagie style bun, wrapped tightly in paper, and cut into two pieces. Each piece was a little longer than I had imagined, but was rolled pretty thinly and I thought deserved a little more filling or even a wider piece of bread. The bread was truly unique. It was thin, very soft and subtle, and somewhat creamy at the same time. There was baker's yeast on the bread adding a little extra flavor, but it seemed like it was missing something.. perhaps a little toasting or flaky edge. The filling had a decent flavor with plenty of peppers and onions and a yellow cheddar blend was mixed well throughout. However, the meat seemed to be lacking in quantity and flavor. A little more seasoning would have been great, and the sandwich itself was only slightly thicker than a hotdog. Overall, the sandwich was very average. The Onion Rings: I saw a photo of the onion rings on the website and knew that I had to try them. Unfortunately, this is where the ball was dropped the most. To start there were only about 6 medium sized onion rings with about 4 tiny end piece type rings - I was certainly shocked by considering the price. The breading on the outside was cooked to perfection with a nice crunchy shell, but the inside was overly soggy and soft. There was no added salt making it very bland, but the worst part is they seemed to be cooked in old and burnt grease. It left a terrible after taste which I could not continue eating. Overall: The staff were the best part being friendly and welcoming. Regrettably the cheese steak was average at best and onion rings needed a lot of work. For over $20 for a single meal next to a college campus, I expected much more. read more

Every time I have been to Fat Shack before, I have had a terrible experience. I would order online and would still have to wait a very long time after driving there to get my order. They would take forever to email my receipt and when I asked for a printed copy, the employee said they couldn't print it for me. The employees were always incredibly high and did not want to help customers. With that said, the new staff they have is amazing. They were taking care of everything as fast as they could and took care of every customer's needs. The lady with red hair running the front was doing an awesome job answering calls, greeting walk in customers, and looked like she was managing the restaurant. I wasn't expecting a lot from a late night munchie place like this, but I was completely and utterly disappointed. The breading on the fried pickles was soggy and just didn't really taste right. I don't know if it was old or what, but it was just unpleasant. The mozzarella sticks were the worst part. The best part of a mozzarella stick is the stretch of the cheese when you take a bite, but these didn't have that. It was just like straight taking a bite out of a cheese stick like a heathen. The breading on these was also somehow soggy?? I am just sad because I went in with no expectations, spent money on this stuff, and then I felt insulted by how bad it was. read more

I'm allergic to wheat. Do I like it? No. It sucks. But I am and such is life. So when I called a lady answered the phone, I kindly asked......she scoffed, then laughed and said "I'll go ask". To start off I originally gave this place a 1 star review. They use to be short staffed, had problems with wait times, and often didn't put care into how they made their sandwiches. After multiple recent visits in the last month I have changed my opinion on their quality. Their staffing issues have been resolved, the sandwiches are coming out much faster and fresher. On my most recent visits I had their most popular sandwich the fat doobie, which was fantastic. Imagine a honey butter chicken biscuit from whataburger on steroids. It seriously hit the spot and I can see why they call it the fat doobie, even better is that they have a house made honey mustard sauce which is perfectly sweet and tangy which brought the sandwich together. The fat Aggie is their college station exclusive sandwich, which comes with steak fingers, fries, cheese sticks, pickles and country gravy on a roll. It was honestly one of the best things I eaten down here. The fried deserts are to die for, the fried cheesecake bites, Oreos and chocolate chip cookies are all amazing. The staff are twice as friendly as before and they've all gotten really good at their jobs. If your reading past reviews of this place I highly recommend you go try it soon and make your own opinion, because I personally believe they have not only improved their quality greatly, but have become a college station icon for 2am drunk food and/or munchies. This is my second time at Fat Shack. It's a good place to go if you're craving food late at night. I ordered a 6" Philly Cheesesteak and it was delicious. They were generous with the meat and the flavor was good. The reason this place lost a star is because it's overpriced. For 8.99, the 6" sandwich felt really small and not worth the price. I've tried this place twice to give it a fair shot. Unfortunately both visits were underwhelming. The first time I had the lunch special which is a single patty burger with fries and drink. The burger was very dry and bland. I actually had to add salt and pepper in an effort to make it taste better. The second time I tried the fat chance sandwich and the first 2 bites were good but then I was struggling to eat it. Some of the items seemed as if they were cold and kind of hard. I don't think I'll be back unless I'm craving some Cheese sticks or fried oreos. One thing that I will say is that you get a lot of food. They do not skimp you on it, whether it's fresh ,now that's another question. Their customer service needs some serious attention as well. One time I went in late and literally stood by the register for about 5 minutes and no-one came to take my order. Thus we left and headed to Whataburger.
