We were in town for a football game and had never heard of the blue baker so gave it a try. We loved it! It was surprising to get such good pizza at soup/sandwich shop. Plus, it's so hard to get decent pizza with a gluten-free/cauliflower crust and I really enjoyed theirs. My daughter had a regular crust, cheese pizza, and she also enjoyed it. I personally like my pizza extra saucy, but if you're not a big fan of marinara sauce, you might have them cut back on it. We also shared a small Caesar salad that was really good. I would give five stars if it wasn't for the soda machine not working and not being warned about it before our beverage purchase. In addition, there were a lot of tables that needed to be cleaned. Horrible experience. I ordered a pepperoni, mushroom, and olive pizza, but somehow it showed up without the pepperoni... and I'm not even sure there was any cheese on it either. It was basically just bread, sauce, mushrooms, and olives. I don't understand how you miss two of the main ingredients on a simple order. I loved Blue Baker... and I will miss it as I left College Station today. But I'm glad I tried it while in town! This is a cool place where you can get sandwiches, pastries and warm bowls and more. It was a perfect option for me as I wasn't super hungry, didn't know what I really wanted, but thought I should eat something. It's a very spacious place. I ordered two pastries (only $3 each!) to go and while I was taking my time to pick a dish the gentleman at the cashier patiently waited for me and was also friendly. I chose ancient grains medley bowl and it was amazing. The lemon dressing that came with it was everything. Also loved that they have two kinds of unsweetened tea! Regular and peach. I ordered an avocado toast and a decaf caramel latte with almond milk. I wanted non-fat milk, but their only choices are milk (unspecified) , almond, and oat. The first sip tasted weird, but I thought it was just that I hadn't had their coffee for a while. As I took a few more sips, I realized that it just tasted awful. There was a strange bitterness. I'm still not sure whether it was the coffee itself or if the almond milk tasted funny or was bas. There was no sweetness or flavor, really, from the caramel. I wound up spilling it when I got home. Got the day old bag o croissants. Still quite buttery, so quite impressive! Also scooped the very last cinnamon bagel. The inside was super fluffy and dense. Outside of the bagel was firm, chewy and delicious. The oatmeal cookies aren't bad, but I do wish they weren't so "thin". Kinda want a little more "oomph", some weight to it, you know? Pretty great bakery, and I would have loved to review the baguettes but they were sold out! Haven't been here in a while, used to be a regular stop, but when we moved a little further down the road, it just wasn't as convenient, however, my son, and I stopped by and were quickly reminded of why we used to love blue Baker! He had tomato bisque soup, and a bread bowl, which she loved, and a side of mac & cheese, and I had Bill pizza, which was outstanding, fajita steak with a chipotle, mayo sauce, and I opted for fresh mozzarella and blue cheese, and I am craving it and can't wait to come back! As always, the staff is so helpful, friendly and patient with you as you build your own stuff if you don't order off their traditional selections! My daughter and I ate at Blue Baker on 8/24 and probably won't return. The service was ok for a restaurant where you order at a counter and have to bus your own table. The problem was the food. They were out of bread bowls, which seemed odd for 5 pm on a Saturday at a bakery. I ordered a bowl of soup, which came in a very small cup. I then learned that the cup of soup came in the same container, just not filled all the way. The soup was decent, but not worth the price for the meager amount. Well, where to start. Did an online to-go order from here a couple weeks ago. Got some soups and pastries. Not a very difficult order to assemble. Was getting it for me and my family. They pretty swiftly sent an alert that the order was ready, as I was on the way to go pick it up. I get there, and the order is not actually ready. Went up to the checkout counter, and no one was there. After a few mins, a staff member came up and asked what I needed. I told him I was there for an order and gave him the name. He disappeared and was gone for several more minutes. I looked behind the counter and could see him finish assembling the order. So even though I got the alert, it was not done. We had requested some slices of bread with our soups and cracked pepper. Didn't get any of those, even though they were on the printed out receipt. Got home with the soups and they were lukewarm. The portions were quite skimpy for the price of each one. The pastries were somewhat stale and pretty puny looking. None of the quality was in this order that we had paid good money for. BB is going down hill, and I don't know if the owner even knows it or cares. This is the location closest to where I live since they won't open one up in Bryan, even after all these years. Bottom Line: Reasonably priced (some even darn cheap) eats with healthier than average options available. With this menu at these prices Blue Baker provides good value eating. Top Line: Quick breakfast was a half sandwich of their Tejas Blue (turkey, avocado, tomato, lettuce, red onion, & hot sauce on house made sourdough bread) $3.25 and a cup of Brazilian Oberon coffee $2.50. The coffee was *VERY* robust on flavor. A heavy hit of strong taste. Not a cup for those tender of tongue, but just the jack-me-up the doctor ordered to kick your morning into hyperdrive. The half Texas Blue sandwich was good. But the stronger flavors of the hot sauce and onions tended to overwhelm the softer tastes of turkey, avocado, tomato, and even the sourdough bread. Hence the balance of ingredients was a bit of a miss on this particular sandwich. The interior of the space is sort of a maze, making it a bit confusing for a first timer. My SIL and I stopped here on our way to Ft. Worth. We were hungry and a sandwich was exactly what we wanted. I checked out their Yelp page and saw a picture of a BLT that looked very appetizing and was making my pregnant appetite scream. I also noticed a really appetizing chicken salad sandwich so I told my SIL about it and she immediately was all in. The location of this restaurant is beautiful right in the heart of College Station. We drove past several other restaurants that we were more familiar with but pressed on. Upon arriving, I noticed lots of parking outside of this huge building. Once we walked in there was this whole wow factor. Everything is blue, there's a gumball machine with various pastel blue gumballs, seating options out the ying yang (booths, tables, bar height seating and I believe outdoors. There are signs above to direct you to order counter. Grab a menu on the way. There was a family standing around the menus but since we were in a hurry I grabbed ours and went straight to the counter where one of the employees was smiling and waiting. I got the BLT with extra mayo and dijon mustard. I didn't realize I could have ordered half a sandwich at the time. My SIL had a few questions about the chicken salad and they confirmed there is no fruit or nuts in the recipe (thank God) so she got a half sandwich only ( a decision she later regretted). The menu is vast. Truly something for everyone. We were handed a ticket and directed to another counter to pay. As we were walking to the counter I noticed the Pumpkin Bread samples and tried a few pieces. It was so amazing, so fresh, so fragrant. I grabbed a loaf for sale to take with me. Didn't think twice about it. We also noticed they had other pastries and desserts that looked very appealing. While checking out I received some excellent advice to try warming a slice of pumpkin bread and spreading a little butter on it. I appreciated that. We sat at a table to wait for our order to go and I observed how impeccable and clean the entire restaurant was including the drink station. I went to the restroom quickly and by the time I came out my SIL had our food and it was time to go. Barely waited 5 minutes. The ingredients on my BLT were very fresh. Tons of bacon. I wish I would have added avocado. I don't know what the heck I was thinking.. I'm a fatty. My SIL LOVED her chicken salad. She was eating it and making sounds in the back seat. We didn't even get 10 miles away before I was searching Yelp for a Blue Baker in Houston. I'm so crushed there are about 3 locations around College Station and one in Austin. PLEASE for the love of God come to Houston. I'll be back every chance I get. I highly recommend this place to anyone. read more
