Corn dog bites (7 for $5.50), small fries with gluten free (corn base) gravy, & Mexican Sonora dog special $8

More like a 3.5, but just because I think this a good place that could be better, it's not yet worthy of 4 stars. While it's nice to see the expansion of a great Edmonton business, especially into a niche market with little competition, in many ways my partner and I prefer the corner cart-style Fat Franks. The hot dogs are just better, they're crisp and perky on the outside with that nice juicy snap when you bite into them. Here at the restaurant the hot dogs are really missing that appeal. I also love that FF's hires people with disabilities and helps them gain work and service experience - I don't think that's the case here. It's also overpriced for what you get, compared to other places that offer 'gourmet' dogs (like It' Dog), $8 for a speciality dog on a very average quality bun with everyday toppings is unnecessarily expensive in my opinion. The upsale prices for brats and other dog options ($2 more) is too much (it's $1 at It' Dog) with toppings added it's easy to get to $10. The basic hot dogs are good, but not brilliant, and you'll pay more for additional hot dog toppings than you would to add extra toppings to a large pizza. This is strip mall Capilano, not premium real estate like Garneau, Whyte or downtown. Why so pricey? I also doubt the market for upsale weenies is that great in this neighbourhood versus a trendy one with a much younger base population. The sides we've tried were OK, but again overpriced. Poutine is average. I didn't care much for the corn dog bites although I like the idea. I like that there's a great selection of sauces, many locally made they say, the beer mustard is delicious. As I am all about the sauce, I also like that they offer beer, although it'd be nice if they didn't have western Canada's worst beer (Yellowhead) as their only tap selection. Are the guys at Alley Kat that hard to deal with or something? They've got a nice space and a cute diner set-up, clean and retro-modern like many of the upsale pizza, burger, chicken places which have been popping up around E-town in the last 2 years. I've been twice to this location, but I think I'll stick to the carts because the dogs are better and I like to support the hard-working little guys. Sorry Hot Dog House!

Hot dogs and poutine were on our minds. I'd had a hotdog for the Fat Frank stalls before but wanted to checkout the establishment and I'm so glad we did. 1st off, the decor is cool. Subway tiles, giant hot dog poster (duh) and blackboard updates. Lot's of seating all around and they need it - at lunchtime this place is BUSY!! We ordered poutine and chili dogs, it definitely wasn't the wurst (soz). Next time I'll just get a regular cheese dog because the topping selection is massive. Self serve for toppings from sauerkraut to relish to be found next to the kitchen. The staff were lovely and really welcoming to our little pal. They brought out an actual treasure chest full of little toys from dollarama. Sure it's cheap but goes down a treat with little kids. Thanks Frank :)

Lately, I've been on the search for the best gourmet hot dog. I'm still searching, but I can tell you that Fat Frank's is definitely a contestant! This is their newest location, but new doesn't mean bad. The staff knew what they were doing, and they did their jobs with a smile and friendly chatting. While we were there, the owner was there as well, and he was interacting with his customers constantly. He was busy handing out their little menu cards, chatting with customers about how they were enjoying it, and even clearing tables! It's nice to see when the owner is that involved. Now for the food: The hot dogs were pretty freakin' good! You can choose from any of their pre-made gourmet hot dogs or even create your own from a huge list of items available. The sky is the limit here! You can customize right down to the type of hot dog you get. Rather have a smokie? They've got you covered! Pair your hot dog with their house-made potato chips (the maple bacon were delish), fries, or even a gourmet poutine. You have so many choices and combinations, you want to keep coming back to try them all. So although Fat Frank's isn't the #1 (yet), it's definitely up there on the list! Check it out if you don't believe me...

Always have been a fan, but only at the carts. First time in the sit down restaurant. Super busy this lunch hour and only one guy juggling the orders. Took awhile for food to come through. At the end of the day the dogs are always great! Nice location, clean, water available, and loads of condiments.

I had a chance to go to Fat Franks Capilano yesterday with my boyfriend after participating in their Instagram post. Basically you tag 3 friends follow their page and BAM free frank. So we did! We've been here before but never met the owner. This man is passionate about local sustainability and it's good to know local businesses are supporting local farmers. We had a Fat Frank and a Corona and after wanted a little something for later. While waiting he made us a sample of mozzarella sausage and it was FABULOUS! Chris ordered a taco fries to go and i got the Japanese fries to go. Super delicious! I would also recommend their Greek fries to anyone who loves greek. So many different choices of food run by locals who really care. We will be back. Thanks for a great experience!

The best part? After a decade they're still probably the best food truck in the city. VUE Weekly named them #1 Best Food Truck 2018 and the show Eat St. featured them in season four. Plus they've been on the Worldwide Faves list on this website this entire time. Locals know that this is the truck that you want - especially for their legendary pork belly sandwich. (If they ever took it off of the menu I think the planet might implode? It's science.) The best way to figure out where Drift is going to be on any given day is to check their website where they've got an up-to-date calendar of their whereabouts. The truck shuts down for the winter so it's always exciting when the end of April rolls around and you know that you're going to be able to start stalking them again. I went to find the truck on the seasons opening of the 124 Grand Market in Westmount, a wonderful farmers' market. Drift does sometimes sell out, so if there's something in particular that you want to eat from them, I'd recommend arriving early. (This will also help you to avoid waiting in a giant lineup.) It's always exciting when the turquoise-painted truck comes into view. These days, the menu on offer is usually pretty standard. They've got four different sandwiches - all amazing. (Although back in the day they used to sometimes do a duck confit sandwich that you don't see anymore and I'd love to see that one make a glorious return!) They've also got some sides that are very good as well. You know the drill, you approach the truck window to make your order with the friendly people inside, then wait a few minutes until they call your name and hand you a brown paper bag filled with goodness. And they do take cards as payment these days. To drink they usually have interesting local canned beverages and they're often different from one visit to the next. I spotted the Troubled Monk Ginger Ale Soda (from Red Deer) and decided to give it a try. This craft ginger ale was quite possibly the best ginger ale that I've ever tasted. The flavour was so real! You could tell that it's made with real ginger but it also had a very unique and wonderful molasses flavour that I really enjoyed. If you see this soda around you should definitely grab some! Next, I moved in on the Sides. We were going to have a true Drift feast on this day! There were four different items to choose from and I had to try the Poutine (Made with beef gravy & fresh cheese curds - $6.50) because I think that this might be something a bit new that they're doing. First of all, their hand-cut fries are already super famous and they season them with "Drift spice" which involves cumin, fennel, mustard seed and chili. (They also do their own housemade ketchup made with cardamom and ginger, which is excellent.) So the fries alone are already something special... But then they went and turned them into a poutine. This very well may be the best poutine happening in Edmonton right now. I'm super picky about poutine (as you may already know) and this one crushes it on every level. The fries are ultra crispy and golden (likely double fried) and dusted in their delicious seasoning. The cheese curds were fresh and squeaky, piled on high. And the gravy was hot and savoury. THIS is the poutine that Edmonton needs to know about. I also ordered the Broccoli Salad (Broccoli, apple, carrot, raisin & herb aioli - $4.75), because health! Loved this little salad. This is a great way to add something a bit more fresh to your Drift meal and I loved the bright combination of veggies and fruit. The broccoli was crunchy and the apple and raisin gave it a nice sweetness. You really can't go wrong with this salad and you'll feel like you ate vegetables. And then it's sandwich time. The Pork Belly Sandwich (Chili mayo, pickled carrot & daikon, fresh cilantro - $9.00) is truly of Edmonton legend and I doubt that I'll ever be able to get myself to order anything else. This sandwich is everything. I dove in immediately and reveled in the symphony of flavours. First and foremost is the pork belly that has taken on an incredible caramelized glaze which gives it a bit of a crunch. It's sliced thin and the fat is rendered down perfectly. Next, the pickled vegetables and cilantro give the sandwich a definite Vietnamese vibe, and the slight kick from the chili mayo is the perfect way to round everything out. The bun reminds me of the soft and crusty Portuguese type. It's a perfect sandwich. Incredibly delicious and consistently amazing for a whole decade, this sandwich must never, never go away. I love Drift. They're a major part of the culinary tapestry in this city and they've certainly played a huge roll in making the food truck scene everything that it is today. They've really cracked the code by offering a small handful of items on their m

Seems to be a bunch of younger guys banging out amazing burgers and very happy to have the privilege to do so. Now onto the food.... let's start with the fries... holy god damn! Do you know those amazing Costco fries? The ones that are super crispy and fluffy on the inside with the perfect flavor to them? Well... they do them here.... but crispier and more of a punch of flavor. I decided to get the whiskey river BBQ burger. It's generally a standard for me in my choices. Taking the first bite I was amazed at the perfection of the bacon. Not to hard and not to soft making it the best to mix in with the rest of my bite. The buns are about as soft as they can be without being under baked. When you take a bite it has already soaked up some of the BBQ sauce making it even more melt in your mouth then it already does. If you can pick a favorite burger spot that you know of not only will this place beat it, but you will easily see how a burger from here will outclass anything else on your mind. Real food, real people, real good time. I look forward to seeing what else and where they will be in Edmonton this year

They have been sold out before 4pm so this was happy to get an order on Thursday afternoon and they sold out after I ordered! I ordered a full spicy chicken and a half order of snow cheese chicken. Both came piping hot out of the deep fryer. It does take about 15-20 min to cook but the wait is worth the freshness! They are awesome and let you sit in your car parked and bring out your order when its done. But the smell was tantalizing. It looks like a local korean family owned truck and looks authentic and legit. And it is! I saw 3 customers all korean. So that is a very good sign. After 430 the line builds up quickly so try to get here early. The spicy chicken is crispy with a yummy kick. It isn't that typical spicy gooey goughang mess but it still has some spice to it. It's a dry spicy chicken with a light flaky coating which isn't at all heavy like other Korean fried chicken. Pleasures of eating fried chicken without the guilt!!! I liked the snow cheese as well. It was very flavourful. But those fries are really delicious. They coat them in the snow cheese and herbs and they are so delicious tasty and addictive. I'm not a big French fry person but these were light, crispy and soooo tasty. Glad to see a new joint open up with healthier fried chicken options in this city!
