Some of my adoptive family (hubby and wife) and I came here for lunch and, a bit of shopping. For lunch, I had, Country Fried Steak, with Gravy, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Black eyed Peas and Cornbread. While it was good, nothing was truly hot. Both the CFS and MPs were warm, with the gravy being barely as warm. Though, the BePs, were warmest. However, I found, the CFS to be on the dry side. While the Cornbread was firm, it was good. Unfortunately, they charged me for 3 sides, instead of just 2. So, because of this, I didn't give a voluntary tip. Fortunately, Chris had gotten some Kenyan Hot Sauce, which I tried on the CFS. And, it really helped with the taste. Sadly, they only 1, 10 oz bottle, which I let them have. And, I bought a 5 oz bottle. Good solid food, a little pricey. We haven't tried the buffet but it always seems to have customers picking out their meats and veggies. The Mahi Mahi is one of the best fish sandwiches in the lake area. Hand cut fries are always a nice treat. This time I tried the pecan crusted chicken salad dressing on side. Chicken was heavily crusted and good for deep fried chicken. They need to be so much MORE generous with the apple and other toppings at that price point. Tables are clean, you do your own pick up. No options to tip. Hours are limited and I do wish they were open on Sunday but, welcome to the South. A market is attached, items vary and have many local choices. If you order off the sandwich counter and it seems to be taking too long, go ask about it. They "forgot" to finish our order and it just sat until we went and asked. I know I have reviewed this place before, but it has disappeared!! This is as close to a farmers market anywhere in this rural area. The owners take pride in what they sell and their business. Very friendly employees both in the store and in the cafe. Food in the cafe is fresh and they pay attention to modified orders. Lunch can get busy, but they are open after the typical lunch time. The meat market is my favorite spot. The meat is local and cut in house. The variety of their sausages can make even the pickiest eater find something that they will enjoy. When it says spicy it is spicy!! Local vegetables when in season are available. There is a small spice and herb selection in the back of the store, where you can weigh your own spices. read more

On the outskirts of Madison, Farmview is a really special farmer's market with an amazing selection of fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and cheese but with a huge array of gift items like chutneys, sauces and honey. There's a little cafe onsite with a small selection of hot and cold foods to eat inside or on the patio. Met up here with my mom to check it out since I've passed it before and wanted see what was offered. We don't leave near here, but I can compare it to maybe a Sprouts/Whole Food vibe. It was nice and offered a lot fresh and local foods. I love that. They also have a section to order food which looked great! The employees... and people were really nice. This review is for the market side ONLY - I have not eaten at the restaurant. The pros: This place is adorable. It is clean and bright and looks like a place where the characters in a Hallmark movie would shop. Everything was nicely displayed. Had an impressive cheese and meat counter along with shelves of specialty and convenience items from national brands and small businesses. There is even a section for gifts and toiletries. The guy at the register was pleasant. The con: Holy cow... the prices are insane. Example: Tate's cookies - $10/bag. These typically run +/- $6 at any other grocery store. I understand paying a bit more for items when you shop in a nicer-than-your-average-grocery-store setting, but this left a terrible taste in my mouth. I can't imagine why the prices are what they are, but definitely not a place where I will be spending much money (because it certainly wouldn't go far here.) read more

The place was very clean & friendly with employees regularly picking up trays & clearing/cleaning tables. I'm going to start with the Banana Pudding Cheesecake - let's just say that Cheesecake Factory HAS NOTHING over this slice of heaven! You tasted it all - banana, nillas & cheesecake! Our party of 3 had more than enough to share one slice. We also had the Pecan Crusted Chicken Sandwich. Ohhhh goodness, you could 100% taste the perfectly toasted pecans! The chicken was fresh and juicy. Their homemade potatoe chips and fries were the perfect side pairings! Sadly my biggest disappointment was my plate - the Steak Salad. While the menu did say sliced I wasn't expecting "shaved" pieces of tri tip. I wanted the thick meaty cuts to sink my teeth into them... the crispy onions that served as the crunchy part of the salad were merely 3 onion petals. I'm not knocking the flavor but the expectation gone wrong. Customer service at the cafe is horrific, you talk to employees there about something hoping they will consider improving weather it's food related or customer service related e.g. ,, I talked to this lady in front twice hoping that she would just pay attention or apologize , instead she looked at me as if I was speaking in German . I asked her if she heard what I just said , she didn't say yes or no instead she strangely hummed at me I don't know what , I wanted just to throw up at her I ,, she was awful. Restaurant is a walk up and order type deal where you place your order, find a seat wherever you like and go up and retrieve your meal when your buzzer goes off. I went on a Tuesday Morning and service was very quick. Bathrooms are VERY clean! I got 5 pancakes to split with my son. They were very good and super hot when they came out. I got sausage which I wasn't the biggest fan of but they had apple butter which was a big perk. My wife got over easy eggs that came out over medium. Crispy home fries and floppy bacon. We have been going for breakfast since it was opened. We haven't been in a couple months so we decided to go yesterday morning - it's a 45 minute drive and we arrived at 10:00 AM but breakfast is served until 10:30 We ordered our normal farm plate with eggs and meat. There is a new policy you have to go to the counter and pick up your food, guess short of help, but that is OK Our biscuits were so hard and dry they were barely edible, the bacon was cold and dry, my potatoes were cold and dry, even our eggs looked like they were left over- my wife's grits were OK - we were so disappointed as we enjoy breakfast but, it was obvious this was not a freshly cooked meal - I think someone just piled up left over food to get rid of it. As we left my wife asked to see the manager but, the manager was not there. A lady did talk to my wife and she told her of our disappointment and the lady said she was sorry. This was a neat spot to stop. There's not much else around so finding this made our trip a little better as we needed a break from the sun. We stopped in on a Tuesday around 12:30 for lunch. There were many tables with plates and trash on them at this time, which told us this was a busy lunchtime spot. Between the 5 of us, we got the Chicken Salad Sandwich, Steak Salad, children's burger meal, and Cobb Salad added with chicken. The chicken salad sandwich was loaded with chunk chicken, lettuce, and tomato. The bread it came on was delicious. The salads did not look like much. I do not think the Cobb salad that was ordered truly did come with what it was supposed to, but at that point in the hunger level, it was ignored. The childrens burger and fries was a plentiful meal. We were hoping to get some house made chips, but they were out. The market itself was wonderful to walk through and we bought a good selection of pre-made foods and goods. We made a planned stop here on our trip and we're very excited to try it. They have a neat market in the same building that has local stuff to buy. I did try their hotdogs which were $11 or $12 for 5 or 6 dogs and they oddly had a very thick and touch casing. It tasted good, but those casings were touch to get through. As for the cafe, they had good looking items on the menu, but nothing really notable. I honestly don't even remember what I ordered. What I do remember is that my check for 2 lunch meals and 2 drinks was much higher than I expected considering the portion size and taste of what came out I may try it again if I take that route, but I think there are some other places along the way that might be a better alternative to try out. It wasn't bad, but a little pricey for what I got. I might just be pickey though, but I just asked my wife if she remembers what she ordered and if it was good... She doesn't remember either. I'd say it's worth a stop if you have a long drive ahead of you to stretch out, take a break, and grab a snack as it's not far off the main highway. I found some pics as I was finishing my review. I guess we got burgers and a fried green tomato cheese sandwich. Pretty normal taste-wise, but prices were a bit high. I remember the fries were met and just frozen stuff. We have reviewed this place several times. It used to be a 5 star place. Our last review was 3 star because of a lack of consistency. That lack of consistency continues and has gotten worse. My wife and I along with our daughter went there. Our daughter wanted to pay for her own meal. My wife and I got the salmon blackened. My daughter got the salmon blackened along with a Rock burger to go for her husband. My daughter placed her order after we did. She got her food 10-15 minutes before my wife and I got our food. Understand these orders were placed literally within seconds of each other. When I asked what happened, I got a shrugged shoulder reaction. Now for the food. Nice and hot. NOT BLACKENED. Tasted fine, but not what we ordered. This place was amazing and couple years ago. Now your food is served on a piece of parchment paper in a pie tin or a cookie sheet. Used to be nice plates. Now understand, if I had never been here before, the food would have been very good, just not blackened as we ordered. The problem is a total lack of consistency. That is something that can really hurt a place over time. Will we be back? Yes, one more time, but if this continues, we will be done. read more
