    Classic breakfast plate
    Laura T.

Ate lunch here Saturday for first time. I had the classic breakfast plate. My eggs (scrambled with cheese) were good as were the potatoes. The bacon tasted good but was a tiny bit overdone. The biscuit was too done (very crunchy outside, almost couldn't bite through it). But I would return & try the food again. Maybe just an off day for the kitchen. However, our server seemed quite anxious to get rid of us, even though they had open tables. She even cleared my friend's plate when she said she wasn't yet finished. So she kind of ruined the lunch a bit for some old friends trying to catch up. We actually left & went elsewhere due to her rushing us out the door. I will give them another shot, just hope we get a different server.

Super CA YUTE place! Back to the Future vibes, we loved our brunch today! Place is super clean, retro decor. Server was great, efficient and friendly. Menu has something for everyone. We had the Fried Green Tomato BLT with a side salad, and the breakfast special. Crisp bacon, tasty home fries, big portions. The sandwich was hearty and I loved the honey mustard dressing for my salad. The coffee is great too! Full flavor,no watery stuff here. Definitely would return. =)

This place had been open less than two weeks when our group of four arrived a little before 11am on a Sunday morning. The wait was short, maybe 10 minutes or so. Let me start by saying the place is adorable! It is homey, welcoming, and comfortable! I opted for the french toast, which is generally served with maple syrup and whipped topping. I opted for some butter, powder sugar and a bit of maple syrup. The french toast was an entire plate-sized portion and very tasty. The bread was thick, a brioche bread perhaps. The only other item that came with my meal was an orange slice. I would have preferred to have a smaller bread slice and perhaps sausage or bacon. I felt my breakfast was not quite complete. That being said, this place is great! It's very popular. The food is good. Highly recommend. Conveniently located in downtown Madison, behind the post office building.

The omelet and grits were really good. Beautiful space. Madison is lucky to have this breakfast place!

Stopped in early on a Sunday at their temporary pop up spot. Food was good, and staff was friendly.

The food was great, and so was the service. A perfect spot to sit outside and look on the square. Everything was freshly prepared.

We've eaten here enough times that it feels less like a restaurant visit and more like part of the tradition. Tonight I ordered the Blue Plate Special with hamburger steak smothered in grilled onions, collard greens, green beans, cornbread, and a big bowl of Brunswick stew. My unsweet tea stayed filled thanks to Rhonda, who was serving tables while also managing the restaurant. We learned that Hot Rod's started the evening with three servers scheduled. Business was slow, so one server was sent home. Naturally, that's when things picked up. Even so, Rhonda and the remaining server kept everything moving smoothly, and we never felt neglected during our visit. The Brunswick stew was excellent and gave us an unexpected opportunity for comparison. Earlier in the day we had Brunswick stew at Fresh Air Bar-B-Que. Hot Rod's version was chunkier, with larger pieces of meat, more noticeable vegetables, and a slight kick of spice. The Fresh Air version was smoother and more finely blended. Both were excellent, but they were definitely different styles. The hamburger steak was flavorful, the green beans and collard greens tasted like proper Southern vegetables, and when the Texas Pete hit the table there was only one thing to say: "My man, Texas Pete goes on the collards." Then came the surprise ending. We learned that peach cobbler was half price today. Unfortunately, they were out. Or so we thought. A fresh cobbler was still in the oven. For the next several minutes, the suspense reached maximum peach. Finally, the cobbler emerged from the kitchen and was served à la mode. The French gave it a classy name. The South perfected the application. Warm peaches, a buttery cobbler topping, and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream that immediately melted with a purpose made for the perfect ending to the meal. It was absolutely worth the wait. Hot Rod's continues to be one of our favorite stops in Social Circle, and after another great meal, I have no doubt we'll be back again the next time we're in town.
