I've driven by this place a hundred times but this was my first stop. It's usually busy but outside appearance a little old and worn down. Inside was clean but again pretty worn. The menu is extensive. My friend and I ordered the pork tenderloin sandwich, one with onion rings and one with fried mushrooms. The tenderloin was advertised as 'hand breaded' but pretty sure it came out of a frozen box. The sandwiches tasted good and were large but nothing special, same for mushrooms. The onion rings were especially good. Our service was exceptional!! The price was a bit overzealous for the area and ambience. Sandwich platters were $16.99 and soft drinks (with refills) $3.49. With tip and additional 3.5% charge for using credit card, it was a pricey and disappointing lunch stop. read more

12/12/25 Stopped here on our way back home and will be honest, when we pull into parking lot we were pretty skeptical about the outside appearance and with a 2 1/2 drive ahead of us decided to at least have a look inside. Glad we did because it looks like a great place inside. We e were both happy with our meals. Wife had chicken fried chicken and I had chicken fried steak both with mashed potatoes and gravy, we shared a side salad which was bigger than most places and it came with vegetable barley soup which we both liked. Our waitress helped us out a bunch and everyone was very polite and friendly. We will definitely eat here again. This is a solid restaurant. We have eaten here multiple times. The Gorilla burger is gigantic and comes with cheese, lots of bacon and an egg. The pork tenderloin was solid as well. Look at our pics to see the generous serving size of onion rings! Great breakfasts too! We come here if we need a bite and Pittsburg places are busy because of a Chiefs game. Phew I hate to say it, but the only enjoyable part of this experience was the sweet server. I could get past the dirty, sticky environment but what I could not get past was how AWFUL the drinks tasted. Truly disgusting-- ordered a tea and it looked like brown lake water and tasted like what I imagine that to taste like. The Diet Pepsi and sprite at the table also did not taste like soda either??? It was so foul. And then the food was just... not good. I wonder if we came on an off day? Went here for the first time. The place was packed on a Saturday morning with locals. It's very dated and timeworn in appearance. So I was a little unsure about it. One thing is for sure, their service is excellent! Lots of waitresses who did their jobs so well. We got our food in a timely manner and it was good. Not stellar, nothing earth shattering but just good basic hearty breakfast fare. Comparable to most diners that serve breakfast. There was an elderly gentleman who came in and sat alone. Please check my reviews. As a business owner, things need to be terrible for me to leave less than 5 stars. We all have less than desirable days. However, pretend that you are in a restaurant with a severe allergy to a possible ingredient. Maybe you like chili, for example, allergic to chunks tomatoes. You can eat them processed, as in a soup base, but if you eat ONE piece of a tomato, your throat will swell, and you could literally die. Because everybody you know makes chili differently, you of course ask the waitress "Are there tomotoes in this?". She does as she should, but unfortunately, repeats this to a person behind the counter. That person (Another customer said "I can't believe that dumb blonde b***ch did that.) (I, didn't see her.) says LOUDLY "What kind of a question is that? Of course it does!" in a condescending tone ensuring he could hear it. I do understand we all say dumb things, but (apparently, without the common knowledge that our customers pay our bills) she continues to say "what a dumb question? Why would someone ask that?" I heard her clearly. He did not. She's very fortunate that he did not hear her, and I didn't want to embarrass him by repeating what she had said. I'm not shy. I'm 6'2", very articulate, and not lacking the ability to get much more loud than she. She almost had a very bad day. I will never go back in there, and before writing this review, I informed 7 of my friends 1 in fort Scott, and 6 in Pittsburg of her actions, and all said they would follow suit. Yes, that happened, and no, I can't possibly understand the rude behavior and odasity of such a person, who clearly placed herself in that position. What a waste of our time, and the space she occupies. To the owner: List all ingredients in any food prepared by me. We all do things differently, and none of us are born with such knowlege. Would it not be possible that a person never touching tomotoes would not know how your restaurant makes chili? This is the quintessential roadside diner! We stopped in on our travels from KS to AR for brunch. We liked it so much, we had lunch there on the way back! My 80 yr old father was thrilled. We had eggs and ham and eggs and bacon and biscuits and gravy and chicken friend steak and French Toast for brunch and we all had BLT's and BLT Clubs with steak fries on the way back. Because it was Monday on the way back, we even got free pie! If you miss the old GREAT small town diner food, this is the place for you. Farmhouse Café suits this wonderful establishment. We arrived at lunchtime and the place was packed. The line was rather long, but they told us it would only be about 15 minutes, which it was :-) the service was great! The server checked on us a number of times and answered all of our questions. I believe this is a Mennonite restaurant and you could tell by the farm fresh food we received. I had chicken salad on toast and fried okra. The chicken salad was perfect! Lots of flavor and not too wet as you sometimes see with chicken salad. The okra was good but mediocre. The shining star are the pies. They have a wonderful selection of crust pies, and cream pies.. I chose a mixed berry fried hand pie and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and plan to go back many times :-) read more

Had a hard choice on deciding where to go to eat. Finally settled for here. Glad we did. Seat yourself and service was almost waiting on us. The BLT club was loaded with bacon and very good. The hot beef with gravy had too much garlic in the gravy for me, but had a good amount of sliced roast beef and the gravy was thick. It came with green beans or corn and mashed potatoes , I chose corn, which was nothing special. You also got a cup of home made soup, which that day was chicken and rice. The Farmhouse Cafe is were you go if you want a good, homestyle breakfast. I went on a Saturday morning around 9 am and the place was pretty busy. It seemed to have several regular customers that the servers knew by name. After looking over the extensive menu, I decided to get the cinnamon swirl French toast breakfast (French toast, two eggs, and a choice of bacon or sausage). When my order arrived, I was surprised to find the regular French toast made from white sandwich bread instead of the cinnamon swirl loaf pictured and described on the menu. When I asked about the bread the waitress simply stated that they were out of the bread. No big deal but it would have been nice to know ahead of time. I probably would have adjusted my order. Despite the little mix up, my breakfast was good and I really cannot complain because the bill was pretty cheap! read more

There's no fancy dress code for staff but again, they're so friendly you won't care. All nit picking aside, we ordered the chili cheese fries appetizer and the bacon cheeseburger special. There was plenty of bacon on the burger and it was very good but I almost couldn't find the burger for the mountain of fries that it came with. Had we known the portions were so large we probably would've skipped the appetizer. Although, I have to say the chili cheese fries were quite good and there was ample chili and cheese to go around.
