All my life, until she died, my mom talked about White Grill. She grew up in Nevada and graduated from high school there in 1944. So, White Grill was a place where teenage years and high school memories were made for her. I remember going there a couple of times in the 1960's. As best I can recall it was where I ate my first curly Q fries. As I was passing through town, I decided to take that trip down memory lane and eat at White Grill. The parking lot was full. Inside seating was full but I was fine with getting my food to go. While I was waiting on my order, I used the bathroom. It's a strange feeling using a bathroom that's an arm's distance from a dining table with only a door between you and the diners. Thankfully, the bathroom was clean! The service was good and the waitress was wearing a smile. The cheeseburger was good and the 1/2 order of curly Q's were, too. The bun was nice and soft. I asked for onions but should have said raw not cooked. Will I return again? Yes, if I'm in the area. Am I craving another burger from White Grill? No. But to be honest the only hamburgers I crave are from Blazers in Gardner, Kansas. It truly was melancholy to reflect back on this very successful small business that continues to thrive. And think about the times when my mom hung out there with her friends while wearing their poodle skirts and saddle oxfords. And now, they have all left this earth, but White Grill remains the same. It's a little gem in Nevada, so I hope they are still in operation for another 100 years! I would highly recommend parents bringing their children to White Grill just for the experience of seeing a place that opened for business so many years ago. read more

I became aware of this jewel from a friend of mine a few years ago. So coming back to Nevada I remembered that and looked this place up on my navigation and sure enough here I am again! I love this place and by the looks of all the cars in the parking lot and in the drive-through a lot of other people do too! Delicious burgers, delicious breakfast, that's all I know. This restaurant still deserves at least 10 stars! It is as incredible as I remember it being when I last visited 5 years ago. I always come here when I'm passing through on my way to Kansas City or otherwise. A great counter, wonderful food, polite people who work here, and regulars every day! I always get the double cheeseburger with (their signature sandwich) with Suzy Q's and a Vanilla Coke. The burger is cooked on their traditional grill that has been a staple of this town for so long. It is always tasty along with all the ingredients it comes with. The "grill grease" is something special I have been unable to find anywhere else in the country. Everything is cooked on that grill and it is just to die for! Bacon cheeseburgers are available for about a dollar more. The Suzy Q's are curly fries and you can usually get a big plate of it to split between two or three people. They're deep fried and so delicious. You can also get regular crinkle cut fries, but the Suzy's are a lot better. Vanilla cokes and cherry Dr. Peppers are the two favorite sodas of mine here. But indulge in what you wish! Come on by if you're stopping through, or staying in town for a bit. The locals here will treat you like family and food service is quick and easy. read more

My mom grew up in Nevada, and White Grill was THE place to go. Flash forward many, many years and it's still around and thriving! It's your quintessential small-town burger joint, and it's as good as it is classic. Their smash burgers are salty, slightly greasy, and delicious. They don't skimp on the meat like some smash burgers that are paper thin. One of the real stars of the show are their Suzy-Q fries, which arrive like a gigantic brick of potatoes that are pretty iconic to the White Grill. I'm not 100% sure how their drive-thru works, but what we did on our most recent visit was call it in and then swing around to a little door where they brought it out to us which was convenient. Oh and the prices are still mid-century prices. Fries, a couple burgers and a grilled cheese were around $13. Glad they're still thriving and doing their thing, and now that my mom is back in Nevada, we'll make this a regular stop on visits. read more

We have always stopped in Rich Hill for Susie Qs while traveling. The last few times we have stopped the wait has been extremely long and the food quality has been a bit off. On our way to the Ozarks from KC and needed breakfast. What spells breakfast better than a bacon double cheeseburger with a plate of fries? This was seriously a delicious burger but it was t the small things that put this burger over the top. Instead of two stacked patties they made one large patty = to a double. The tomato was sliced thin as were the onions so that when you took a bite hour burger and bun didn't fall apart. Great cheese with crispy bacon. I got the regular fries which were great but my wife's Suzuki Q fries were where it's at. Super neat little old school diner where most regulars belly up to the bar to watch the behind the counter. Our waitress, who worked the counter/bar and also all the tables, was very good at making everyone feel welcome and taken care of. Awesome place. read more

Contrary to every review here, my experience was not very marvelous. My family and I were passing by while on a little road trip, so we decided to pop in for a quick bite. After reading the glowing reviews posted here, we were fully expecting a meal like no other. To our disappointment, it was anything but. From the dry bun to the frozen onion rings, it was nothing to write home about (at least in a positive way). Post ordering, we sat down in one of the booths and were presented with our food. Immediately we noticed that the fries were well, just... crinkle cut fries! We asked about the Susie Q's (because that's what we were expecting) and found that you have to ask for them specifically. We were not given such option when we ordered. To top it off, we were informed that the onion rings were not homemade and you have to explicitly ask for those as well. How were we to know? We would've happily opted for the homemade fries and onion rings if we were given the chance. Disappointment is an understatement. Summary of going to White Grill... Order the "homemade" onion rings - use the word 'homemade". Otherwise you will have a very sad plate of crinkle cut fries. Order Suzie Qs by name - not curly fries or fries. There is a difference and you will be very disappointed you don't have Suzy Qs. Order a soda, any soda - do not drink the water! We hope that we just had a one off bad experience but we won't know because we won't be going back. read more

Tiny building from the outside, cute diner style inside with booths, tables and a counter. 10:30 am on a Tuesday quite busy. One waitress, One fry cook and someone checking in stock and elivering food from a driveway. Everyone knew their job. Well oiled machine. The fry cook was unbelievable. This is a very special place. When traveling back from Kansas, I always stop on Sunday afternoon. The place has been in business since 1938. It is a step back in time when you walk in and sit at the bar facing the grill. You can watch your food being cooked and has that smell of grease in the air. The burgers are amazing along with the suzie-q's that you just can't match. This is the first place I have found that matches the great taste of the old "Boone & Daubens" in Fort Scott Kansas (yes, my uncle's place), but he retired and sold the business. It soon closed down and I searched for a replacement, until I found the White Grill. I have been a regular Sunday customer once or twice a month since. If you are ever driving through Nevada, or traveling past on 71 highway, it should be a mandatory stop. read more

These are curley fries. Hand cut in the back for 80 years on a special little machine. Add some tangy ketchup and use your fingers. you'll want to lick the grease. Yes, I have used the word grease twice already. Those of us that grew up in Nevada - and eat at the Grill several times when we come abck for a visit - swear on the Grill grease. Get a vanilla Coke, Cherry coke, Cherry Dr Pepper with that tiny little ice chips. You are now in greasy, old fashioned, burger heaven. Breakfast is good too. OMG this place is perfection!!!! The staff is friendly and fast. The decor is just adorable. I had planned to take pictures of all of our food but once we saw it there was no stopping for pictures. I never have anything else because they have the best burger in the USA ( I keep trying but yet to find anything better only one measures this close is Dyers in Memphis) I've made a convert of everyone I bring! This is not a chain but that means they have to satisfy or they don't survive and they have since 1938. You pull up to back door and honk if you want car service. They use the same Grill from 1938, and I had no complaints that the burgers were very flavorful. We sat in a window booth to accommodate 4 adults and a child. The afternoon sun was incredibly intense, so without blinds we were basically blinded by the sun and I think I got a sunburn, while waiting for our meal. We all got classic Burgers. I'd say overall the quality of the cheeseburger was very high, and I'm not typically a cheeseburger fan. I really enjoyed the grilled onions, and it came with lettuce tomato and pickle which I enjoy. Very straightforward, No Frills and this is also reflected in really great prices. A nice size cheeseburger for $3.60 is pretty much unheard of anymore. The curly cues were just okay, more ends and bits than actual full fries. if I return, I think I tried the onion rings. I also like that they serve breakfast all day. read more
