The food is always top notch here. It's piping hot on a platter, not a plate, so it's really big portions. They are really good about providing a to-go box. So you have another meal ( or two!) . Summary: Casual setting, value priced entrees, and friendly service in a large space on Nevada's square. You shouldn't have an issue getting a seat here: the space is huge--even just the main dining room is large. All the usual Mexican restaurant recipes are on the menu. We arrived for lunch, which has particularly good value meals. Combos, starting at $6.49, include an entree plus rice, beans, and a bit of salad. Plus, complementary light, crispy chips and flavorful fresh salsa. Healthy black beans came with a cooked spinach burrito topped with cheese. I went here the other day and got the fajitas. It was OK was good flavor. The service was. Excellent super nice friendly and helpful. They did have a customer that was yelling and screaming. They even made one of the servers cry but they kept their cool respect that they do have a bar as well. It's really nice. Everybody here is really nice. read more

I saw that I reviewed this place over 10 years ago! We always look forward to stopping here anytime we are driving through. We usually get the Avocado Burrito and it never disappoints. Huge chunks of lean pork! We share it and both leave stuffed, so at $14.99 it's a great bargain. Their margaritas are the best, not too tart or too frozen. The service has always been great!! They are happy to bring us extra sauce, extra napkins etc...and we can get in and out quickly. We'll see you next time, it's well worth the stop! read more

Well, 11 years later, and unfortunately the food has changed recently. In particular, the fajitas. Tasteless. Almost like they are baked rather than grilled. Atmosphere is less exciting, darker, than it used to be, and rather like not being in a Mexican restaurant. Service has always been an issue, attentive when you first arrive but not much after that and you wait a lot of times to get a check. They do have the best pico de gallo anywhere. But I've been disappointed lately and not going as often. read more

Started off with amazing chips and salsa. All of the food and drinks were amazing. Very helpful waitress and I think she was the only one waitressing and she made the drinks! We still had Quick service all around. I did notice that the menu needs to be updated on here because the prices are higher than the photos we looked at on Yelp before stopping. We were in Nuh-Vay -Duh, Missouri and tried the Iguana Azul. We are from the left coast so we know Mexican food and this place was an unexpected treat. We both had Churanos which were like big floor tortilla wrapped tacito's. They were really good. We looked at other food coming out and some of the portions were huge, ours was on the smaller side but still more than we needed. The salsa was fresh and had just the right amount of heat. First issue: server told me he would do an al acarte chicken quesadilla as it was cheaper than the kids meal (which is what I ordered). Check came and it was actually more. Second issue: ordered nachos with grilled chicken instead of shredded. Wrong item came out, they fixed it, thought all was good. Check came - $4 more!!! for grilled chicken. Cinco de Mayo plus a lovely Spring day calls for a Road Trip and great Mexican food. That is how Hubby and I found ourselves in Nevada, Missouri at Iguana Azul for lunch today. This spacious Mexican themed restaurant situated across from the distinctive County Courthouse on the main town square, has gotten mostly favorable to excellent reviews on Yelp, so we decided to make it our destination. It lived up to our expectations in every way with so many tempting menu items that the only downside of our visit was having to choose only one entree each. I went with two flour tortillas wrapped around fresh chopped spinach, onion and spices with a really lovely, flavorful Espinaca over the top. These were accompanied by generous sides of rice, black beans, chopped lettuce and tomato and sour cream. Hubby ordered a Chimichanga filled with tender chunks of grilled beef tips that was served with sides of rice, pinto beans, shredded lettuce, guacamole, chopped tomato and sour cream. Hubby cleaned his plate quickly, while I took a more leisurely approach, sipping a well made house Margarita (16 oz size - although they also have one that is 27 ozs) and using some of the complimentary crunchy corn chips as scoops to be sure I didn't miss even a morsel of the rice or beans. That reminds me, the salsa served with the chips was very good with a nice cilantro undertone to compliment the slightly chunky texture of the tomatoes. Service was friendly and thoughtful and our entrees arrived so quickly that for just a second I thought we must be getting someone else's order by mistake. I am often reluctant to give a place five stars on a first visit, but considering our great experience and the number of other 5 star reviews, I am going to say that Iguana Azul is "as good as it gets" and, as for me, I just want another road trip down I-49, sooner rather than later, so I can give some of those other menu items a try. read more

It's Mexican food in the Midwest. It's not gonna be authentic. But it ain't bad. Tacos were Americanized ground beef, shredded cheddar and lettuce. Beans and rice are fairly average. And margaritas are a little grainy from the powdered mix - but stout! They used to let you smoke in the bar area but not any more. Service is usually pretty good unless you are there on an off time. Mid afternoon I wanted a margarita and some tacos...I got my food and then had to flag down someone for another drink. Chips and salsa are the stuff you buy at the store. It's a big place though with a nice room for a meeting meal or reunion or big group of friends. read more

We have been customers since it changed hands a few years ago. Excellent food and servers. It slipped awhile back when some of their Mexican employees had to leave, but the quality is back. We lived in CA and have property in Mexico..so we are a bit particular about Mexican food, but Iguana is good. Just wish they had more seafood as we have in southern Mexico. I stayed in town on my way up to Kansas City one night, and we had a group dinner with a bunch of friends. The restaurant has a pretty decent size, and many options for food on the menu. Parking is very spacious outside in the square, so I would imagine no one would have a hard time with that. We started with some queso, and it had a bit of an old flavor to it, but it was tasty at the same time. The salsa verde with the chips was also pretty good, and I could have that all the time. I ordered the fajita meal. Their fajitas aren't like the ones we have back in Texas. Midwest Mexican food is a bit different, according to some people. The fajitas were in bits and pieces, and not whole, like you would put on a tortilla. However, the grilled onions were good in the dish, and I've always been a fan of those. On the side, I had some rice and beans. The beans were in a soupy kind of liquid, which I didn't really care for, but the rice was good with a kick to it. I also enjoy the staff here, who check on you periodically. There are many drink choices as well, for a big group like we had. I wouldn't overdo it with the menu, because it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. However, this is a good place to come to if you want a large family dinner one night. Even though it's in a small town, there are a lot of regulars here every night. We may come back and try it again the next time we are on our way up to the city. read more

Iguana Azul is a great place to eat. Located on the square in Nevada, there are often events going on and there is plenty of parking on the square and in the private lot behind the restaurant. The staff are very friendly and will seat you when you come into the restaurant. Chips and salsa are served after you are seated, just as you would expect at a Mexican restaurant. The salsa is homemade and one of our favorite things about the restaurant. There are so many great options on the menu. There is a large variety on the lunch menu and the sizes seem to be a little smaller than the dinner sizes, but it is still plenty of food and lunch prices are lower. I love the "Popeye Enchiladas" and "Fajita Enchiladas." Health tip: substitute black beans for refried beans. They allow you to customize your meal if there is something that you don't like. Everything that I have tried has been delicious and the prices are pretty reasonable for the large quantity of food that you receive. You will not leave hungry! read more

Large, comfortable booths. Large drinks. Good chips and salsa. Cons: Smoke lingers from the smoking area into the non-smoking. The food is average at best. The service is very inconsistent. This place is very high on our list of Mexican restaurants in southwest Missouri. I have never had a bad experience there and have eaten there 20+ times, maybe more... I'm a fan of the Burritio Flameado. Pork carnitas, rice, black beans, topped with a delicious sauce and sauteed mushrooms. Sooo tender! The food is decent but eat in if you can. If you dine out make sure everything that is supposed to be in your order makes it in the bag. My usual order comes with tortillas they are rarely in the bag. It's annoying to have to check every time and even more annoying when you don't check and they aren't in there. read more

We ate here 2 years ago while visiting my home town area. We were with friends from the area as well as a guest from Detroit and Seattle. We all thought the food was amazing. I don't remember all the meals we had now. But my husband who can't remember anything still talks about the food. We were very impressed. Prices also were very reasonable and of course lots of food.
