This location is closer so we stopped in on Saturday for lunch. The enchilada my wife said was tasty and just the right size for lunch. The taquitos were crunchy and had plenty of shredded chicken. The chicken seemed seasoned well too. Overall it was good and we'll be back.

Whether that be because of staff changing, different ingredients, a mistimed visit to this new location, or something else entirely, I'm not sure. The service was absolutely fantastic, but the food was just okay. My chile con queso was thin and you need to eat a lot to get the flavor. I liked it, but I wouldn't come back for it. I used to really love this appetizer, to the point I would come to Maria's just to order this! The chicken quesadilla was good. A fair amount of meat inside, juicy, and enough cheese. I wish you could get sour cream put in rather than have it on the side. The first burrito that was brought out was cold but they made us a new one with no issues. The shrimp cocktail was really strange and too sweet. It was mostly liquid with several small shrimp and chunks of avocado floating in it. The botana platter was an interesting sampler. The queso blanco on it was good and thicker than the chile con queso. The taquitos were good. The only problem is that everything cools so quickly that you're bound to be eating something cold eventually. Overall an okay experience. Nothing crazy. I really, really miss their old chile con queso!!

Our waiter was from Honduras and was happy I ordered the Honduran Tour and one of my friends ordered a Honduran beer. My meal was a ground beef pastelito, 1 cheese pupusa, 1 baleada, and a side of green bananas. My favorite was the beef pastelito but I ate every single thing on the plate. Was happy they gave us salsa in separate bowls. I also had the margarita and it was refreshing with a little kick from the tajin in place of the salt. We have decided when we are in Joplin again we will definitely head here.

Walking in, the restaurant is pretty small. Definitely a diner feel to it, not overly Mexican-themed. The atmosphere could use a glow-up, for sure. We started with chips and guacamole plus queso. The guac was creamy, but not overly pureed. Very nice! The queso was creamy and cheesy, but not thick or goopy. This is a plus because so many quesos have been ruined by texture. Also, good salsa. One of my go-to dishes when I have Mexican food is tamales. I eat them almost every time and I love love love them! The Nogales version is fine, but their masa was pretty wet and it was covered with way too much cheese for me. Good flavor overall, but I prefer a moist masa over a wet one 10 out of 10 times. Rice - good, fluffy; beans - flavorful, decent consistency ... Hubby chose the Carnitas, which is what he usually gets when trying out new Mexican restaurants. He said they were very good, but he's had better. We were fine with this place, but it wasn't our favorite Mexican. However, we'd go back and try more things.

If in doubt just ask for Kimmy, she's amazing but I almost hate to put that out there because so is everyone else...just that one bad apple. I haven't taken many pictures over the ten years we have been going but will say we have NEVER had a bad meal at Buttered Bunns. Nearly everything is homemade and absolutely everything is very good! And I'm a super critic! I'm attaching the pics I do have and will add more as I go, to help the business. They've always been open for breakfast and lunch 7-2 and it's amazing...but now are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 8pm. Full menu...but the specials are AYCE catfish on Thursday, steak on Friday and chicken on Saturday. My point in this review is to try and get Buttered Bunns enough business to continue the Thurs-Sat evening hours. It's a 90 day trial that they are doing. And let's face it, dinner in Miami is your choice of numerous Mexican restaurants (FYI the newest one is more expensive and no better that the smaller places), and Mia Bella - a mediocre Itialian joint, casinos, fast food, or Montana Mikes which made a brief rally that I praised here on yelp a few years ago and then they promptly plunged again to the home of extremely overpriced crap! As I say this I also remember Woodys. Always overpriced but the food was good when Jeff owned it. New owners (same as Main Street Cafe) will drive it into the ground soon enough. We do have a few pizza places that aren't national chains but none of them offer anything exciting as far as toppings. Same as or less than the chain places...and Cruisin 66, the new wood fired place is the biggest disappointment of all as far as toppings go. Oh and we did have a phenomenal chicken place -Wing Club- (wings, sandwiches, wraps) until last week when the city condemned their rented building after just giving them a license to operate in said building a few months ago. Talk about some sh*t there!! I think they are getting a food truck now so kiss that one good-bye. Back to Buttered Bunns who has always been good... Consistent, homemade, real, excellent service. We live in the next town over so it's a 30 minute drive for us but we have been doing it each week to support their new evening hours. Please do it with us to help this fabulous small business succeed! I can tell you that you can't go wrong with any breakfast...my fav is two eggs over medium, hash browns crisp, sausage or bacon, and hotcakes! So good!! Lunch is so hard to choose! The chicken strips are bomb! So are their sandwiches and "dinner" options too! The AYCE catfish tonight was the best I've had in a 50 mile radius, or more! Several casinos in Miami do AYCE catfish but it doesn't even compare! And the sides at Buttered Bunns are SO much better! The dining area is open and I love listening to the regulars talking with the staff and each other...we go once or twice a week but are from out of town and only a few servers know us and only from our visits to the restaurant. I think some folks must be there every day, especially for breakfast, but they also know the staff outside the restaurant. Anyway...it's a great place to eat and a Small Business in the small town of Miami. I hope this review sends you in to see them!! Oh!! Also...their pie is fabulous! Especially the coconut cream. Best pie crust I've had in a restaurant ever! Good fillings are common but usually come in a crappy crust. Not at Buttered Bunns, their pie crust is tender, flaky and flavorful! To hold all that amazing filling! Enjoy!!

Seat yourself, a waitress quickly stopped by with menus and took a drink order. The menu is pretty big and includes breakfast and a kids menu. I ordered hot tea and am so happy to have received a cup of tea with a pot of tea back-up! Yes, all the tea please. The lemons on the side added to my tea joy. It's the small things. My SO ordered himself an open faced roastbeef sandwich. This is shredded roast on top of a sweet roll smothered in gravy with a side of mashed potato. He certainly ate it like it was tasty. (I did confirm - it is tasty.) I went with an a la carte breakfast of two eggs and one pancake. The pancake had a slightly sweet taste and is fluffy. The eggs were cooked perfectly 'over easy'. You can tell they are cooked as eggs should be over a low heat - no scorch marks on the outer edge. Bathrooms are in the back left corner and are cleanest where it matters most. Diaper station in the ladies room. During our visit many of the guests knew each other and chatted amongst themselves. All the staff we came in contact with were friendly. They kept a close eye on all the guests making sure everyone had everything they needed. All together a good stop.
