Hidden gem in Galena! This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants! There is a lot of seating, both indoor and out! Sometimes, there is live music! The food is excellent! Some of my favorite are pollo loco and quesadilla de camaron! And ordering queso is a must! They also have so many margarita flavors! We were there a few months ago, not busy... Infact, we were one of 2 couples actually IN the restaurant & maybe 4 small groups outside... The 2 caucasian girls were super sweet to us, the Mexicans wouldn't even look at us when we asked politely for service! They stayed on their phones and wouldn't even give us the time of day! Now, they don't speak a lot of English however, just me standing there saying "hello" and trying to get their attention 3 feet away SHOULD HAVE alerted them that I needed something ...!? There was no toilet paper in the ladies bathroom so, I had to use a couple of paper towels... The food was just OK... not the best... HOWEVER, the place was clean & bright & well maintained... They just were kinda mean & didn't care about helping us with our order & anything extra... OH, the fried ice cream was actually fried and then put back in the freezer, I assume because, it was as hard as a ROCK and the fried part was like plastic! NOT FRESH at all... read more

Out on a little trip and drove past this place. It's not really on the beaten path, but only about 10-15 minutes off I44, so worth the time. The restaurant is clean and well staffed, as noted by a few reviews. The chilps and salsa were good, but could benefit with some more cilantro for my taste. Drinks are very affordable and guacamole had a good fresh flavor. For the meal, I was swayed at the last minute by someone else's review, and went with the carne asada. Good choice. The meat had a great flavor and was tender. It was accompanied by a well apportioned fixin plate with all the regular fajita stuff. Nice presentation also, with the grilled onions (that also have a good mild flavor) Overall, a good experience. It's worth the short trip away from all the traffic. read more

Not at all the quality of food and service I was expecting from this small town Mexican joint. We had the Carne Asada and a chicken taco salad. Carne Asada is not typically a fork tender piece of beef. It's a little chewy, but I love it when it is cooked right, and they did. They served it sizzling hot on a iron skillet with green onions (as it should be). It came with a generous plate of beans, rice and guacamole. I always recommend ordering a chili toreado to go with the meal.They have good chips and salsa and you can get some really hot salsa if you ask for it. The service was very good. Oh. My. Lord. A group of friends and I escaped from work today and celebrated my birthday with lunch at Mi Torito. I had heard the food was good from several people, so I was really looking forward to trying it. And the verdict? Freaking awesome. Even my Mexican friend who does not like Mexican food loved it. It's that good. First of all, let me preface by saying Mi Torito is in a super small town. Seriously, I think there is one stoplight. So I would never imagine them to have such a great restaurant here. Good or decent restaurants, yes, but a great one? The building itself is very charming. Brightly colored, festive. Definitely draws you in. The inside was suprisingly large, very colorful, neat and clean. I did not feel I was walking into a greasy spoon by any means. Service was top notch. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. She checked on us often, but not in an annoying way which I appreciate. And she dealt with my vegetarian friend's super cute way of ordering (is it chicken-based, is there chicken in it, is it cooked near chicken) with finesse. Definitely a pro. Tasty salsa, tasty guacamole (although I do like Festival's a little better). But even tastier was this cheese dip called Queso Fundido. It was melty cheese goodness topped with crumbled chorizo. Who invented this delicious madness?! Man. Their menu has a ton of great options. Has your basic staples, but also some really unique items that I've never seen before. I ended up selecting the Pollo Encremado (see my picture), which is a mix of chicken, mushrooms, and green peppers in a cream sauce. It's like Mexican comfort food. Very creamy, though, so it may be too much for some. However, if you put it on a corn tortilla like it's intended and add some of the rice, it cuts down on the creamy and it's divine. Lucus got the pork carnitas and he said they were very very good, even better than Festival (our most favorite place). In fact, I think Mi Torito could very well surpass Festival. I'll have to eat here again to be sure. Great experience, great food, great overall. Was in and out within 30 minutes too. Definitely worth the trip if you are out of town. read more

I have been wanting to go here for a while because I have heard people talking about it and I'm so glad I finally got to try it! It is awkward not having music blaring in such a wide open space but the food makes up for it. I had the pork fajitas and they were really good, I unfortunately can't comment on the chips because I'm on a low carb diet but I did break one in half and they looked mighty tasty! I also loved the margaritas! I am not a big basic margarita fan but I really enjoyed theirs and they have huge ones! I can't wait to try their other flavors! read more

Wow. Stopped here on my road trip along Route 66 and was amazed. Such a home-y feeling. Awesome guacamole like a previous review said. I love chips and dip; their fresh salsa and chips hit the spot and this is coming from a Southern California girl who ordinarily has an abundance of Mexican food to choose from and therefore I'm usually pretty critical. We had the fajita parrillada that included all meats and it was so so tasty. I'm not a shrimp person but even the shrimp was tasty and fresh. I asked them for hot sauce and was presented with their homemade hot salsa, I got what I was looking for--a nice healthy kick. I had no complaints whatsoever aside from enjoying my meal so much I left my phone case there. I wish this place was closer. Oh, and this place was really clean. Service was great as well. It was so pleasant to witness gems like this on a road trip. Will definitely go again if I ever find myself in driving distance. read more

There are plentiful Mexican restaurants in Joplin, but for some reason we often find ourselves traveling over to Galena, Kansas for great Mexican food. Nogales around the corner is a big favorite, but after hearing friends and family rave about Mi Torito we had to check it out. I really think the two restaurants are both excellent. Mi Torito seems a little more polished, though, and it's larger than it looks from outside. Their menu was very appealing and it was hard to decide what to order. Our small order of guacamole was the perfect size and it was some of the best, freshest tasting guacamole I'd ever enjoyed. I would come back for that alone! My combination meal was really delicious (chalupa, chile relleno, and fantastic beans) and my husband enjoyed his veggie quesadilla. Service was very friendly here as well. read more

Fantastic food - and I'm not exactly sure how they could get any cheaper. My parents live near Galena and visit Mi Tortito at least once every couple of weeks. You pay a very small amount for a very large portion of whatever you order. Everything has been made very fresh, is extremely tasty, and the service honestly could not be better. As soon as you drink a couple of sips from your Diet Pepsi, they are at your table to refill your drink. The servers and cooks are all extremely friendly and warm. Come here today! read more

Amazing food and fun atmosphere! The wait staff is very friendly, and does a great job on recommendations (not all places give good food recommendations, some say everything is good, which we all know is not true!) My husband ordered the pork carnitas. Our waitress recommended it and told him that he would love it. We were hesitant but... they were super moist and tender with a great flavor! I ordered the Pollo Encremado. Can we say awesome! It was chicken and bell peppers in a creamy white sauce, sort of like a cheese dip but better. I loved it, as did my two year old! We love the food here and would give this place 5 stars if they sold alcohol, specifically margaritas! Probably one of the worst "Mexican" restaurants I've ever tried. Living next to the border for majority of my time. This is not good food. The queso flameado, which they don't call it, tasted like velveeta cheese and ground beef. The steak ranchero was literally tomato paste and 2 cups of water. No seasoning. When I took a bite of the steak it instantly made me sick. When I brought it up to the owners attention he just shrugged his shoulders and brought me a box after I kept saying I didn't want it and to please take it off my bill. He refused and tried to give me the bill. He told me at the end that he saw nothing wrong with the food. I said I'm telling you that there was something wrong with it and I did not like it or my mother. I literally took two bites. No one came to check on how everything was. We finally eyed the manager after my mom finished her food. I told him everything and if he could just take it off the bill. He left the plate and walked away. This is the top worst restaurant I've ever been to. No customer service at all. Sad because it's a cute restaurant on the outside. To top off this whole thing, NO one wore a mask even though it's mandatory in the state of Kansas. Do not waste your money. Go to el vaquero instead.. read more

Best Mexican around. Love the fajitas, the chimichangas are to die for, the fluatas are so tasty. I have eaten there so many times and ordered so many different things. I just love it. And now they have outdoor dining too. We always order a bowl of queso dip. It is so very good. I love everything there. Wish they served alcohol. It would be great to have a beer with your meal. But that is the only draw back. Will eat there a million more times. Love it. Great for families. read more
