The ingredients were perfect and seasoning was out of this world. I had the Super Cena which was a variety of different items. The Chlli Relleno was awesome with this really tasty sauce. The Tamale had a similar sauce with seasoned beef that was the best ever. Then came the enchilada that was beyond super delicious. The Chalupa was to die for and they toss in a hard shell beef taco rounding out an awesome meal. Our host Yuri is the best of the best. Moved to the area a few months ago and Festival has become our favorite restaurant! The salsa is amazing and my chili relleno was the best I ever had and I've been eating them for years! The owners and staff and very friendly, the food is made to order and they never disappoint! Everything I ever tried is delicious. I find myself often ordering the Mucho Durango. Grilled chicken and shrimp laid over a bed of Spanish rice and covered with queso! The burrito Jalisco is huge and never disappoints. I also like their Fajita Nachos! Out of all the local Mexican restaurants, Festival is my favorite. We've never had a bad meal here. They have terrific guacamole, which is a must-do while waiting for your meal. I have tried a couple of things in the menu, but i always go back to the #9, which is a spinach enchilada and tamale. Sooo good! The spinach is sautéed nicely, a beautiful bright green. And the masa on the tamale has a wonderful flavor. We usually have great service, and in and out within a half hour or so. However, last weekend something was off and we didn't get waited on for awhile, then sat with an empty bowl of gauc for 15 minutes before we finally said we couldn't wait any longer for our meal as we had a movie to catch. This doesn't normally happen, so I know we will be back and fully expect everything to be just fine. read more

Love Festival enough to drive from NWA to Joplin for a meal! Food is always great and the owners and servers are wonderful! I used to go a few times a month when I worked in Joplin thanks to my boss who also loved it, and they really make their patrons feel like family. Off the menu, the Chiles toreados are some of the best I've ever had, though some days the spice was enough to make my eyes water! Lots of great, authentic menu items, but my personal favorite was typically the beef tacos. Atmosphere is laid back, good music, great place for families, work lunch, casual dinner - love that you almost always see the owners and their family. Joplin is lucky to have Festival! read more

This place seems like a hole in the wall. Very good food and just off the beaten path. This was a nice change from the plethora of chain restaurants that are on the main drag. Katie got the Festival Chimichanga and I got the Festival Enchiladas. Both dishes were served with chicken and very filling. I'm stuffed. I definitely recommend this place. read more

I had the Nacho Fajitas and a Chile Relleno. It's nice to know there is good Mexican food in Missouri. I ordered from a different Mexican restaurant recently, and their food was bland and they actually used CREAM CHEESE in their chile relleno-ack! The Chile relleno here was flavorful, slightly spicy and the perfect consistency in the batter-not a dry cornmeal and not an omelette. The poblano pepper has a little spice and a nice thick filling of what I believe was Jack and maybe Colby cheese. I chose steak for my fajita nachos and it was nice and tender. Lots of onions, peppers and tomatoes, the first two of which were nicely sauteed so they still had a little bit of bite to them, not cooked to mush. A good amount of a white cheese sauce. I also got a side of pico de gallo, which was nicely spicy. There was a bag of chips and some sauce included. The chips were plentiful and crispy, but next time I will request a spicy salsa, as they send a very bland one as the norm. Will definitely order from here again. read more

This place is a monument to chili powder. The chips and salsa came and the salsa tasted like chili powder mixed with water. I got a combo plate, the chili rellano wasn't bad but then I got hold of the enchilada. All I could taste was chili powder. I got the cheese sauce on top (.99) and am glad I did. If I had gotten the red sauce it would have been inedible. The beer was good and cold! read more

This is the perfect example of the American dream at work. The family that owns this turned a hole in the wall location into a highly sought after lunch venue on the East side of town, and eventually expanded into the entire building by buying out its neighbors (a liquor/smoke shop). Long gone is the tacky, used cafeteria furniture which has been replaced with beautiful interior design and authentic Mexican decor. The prices have stayed very reasonable, and the portions just as large as when it was a start up. Feel free to take your kids. The owners' daughter is very friendly and often acts the hostess, seating guests and just looking cute in general. I love Mexican food. Funny tnough, when I come to visit Joplin I always crave it in more ways than you can count. After a little searching we came across Festival. Lets try it! The outside of this place looks like a classic dive bar and honestly...there isn't much to speak of on the inside either. However, the place was packed for lunch and I was ready for some salsa. Quaint, small place. Friendly and attentive service. Upon arrival we got a huge basket of very thin (yum) warm chips that melt in your mouth. Everything is ungodly bland! The fajitas are terrible and tasteless. Onions and green peppers and smothered in something that looks like spices and still....nothing. No flavor. Every single dish tastes like the one before it. The salsa tastes like oatmeal with cilantro. My God. And the white cheese on everything is cheap. Also tasteless. A way to cover bad food. It's also completely tasteless sawdust. Lettuce out of a Wal-Mart bag, chips out of a Tostitos bag and oatmeal flavored everything. I have heard nothing but rave reviews of Festival over the past several years, but I was less than impressed. My husband and I went in for an earlier dinner one Friday evening when they were not yet busy and our food was just okay. He really wished he'd gone to a couple of other local Mexican restaurants, and wasn't a fan of the shrimp in his shrimp chimichanga. I enjoyed my enchiladas very much, and the chicken one had a ton of chicken inside that was really nice & moist. But the beef quesadilla that came with my combination dinner was not something I would repeat. The beef was extremely tender chunks, like pot roast, and not fatty or tough, so that was nice but it wasn't seasoned or flavored at all. The cheese in the quesadilla was very unfamiliar to me and reminded me of a thick sticky paste. So much so, I left it on the plate and chalked it up to Cheese Mystery. For the record, I eat in dozens of Mexican restaurants every year across the entire Southwest so it's not a case of me just thinking every restaurant serves Kraft cheddar jack. It was odd sticky gummy cheese and unpleasant. The service was very friendly and quick. There were a LOT of servers standing around chatting (probably waiting for the dinner rush?) and the music was extraordinarily loud. I would return, but it's definitely not yet among my top five spots for Mexican in the area. read more
