I'll start by saying I was in Warrensburg from out of state for my daughter's graduation. So, I googled a restaurant that is close, in a safe park of town that easy to access with plenty of parking and arrived at Cancun Mexican Cuisine. Outside the place needs a little TLC but no big deal I thought. Walking in I really enjoyed the amount of décor giving it that Mexican vibe I love. Looking around the stucko, hanging hats, flags, obnoxiously colored chairs and tables are what comes to mind when I go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant. However, on a 90 degree day, the restaurant was like 92 which was sort of a precursor to the experience I was about to embark on. First off the salsa was pretty bad. It had no heat which I actually prefer but it had no flavor. I literally thought it tasted like a mild marinara as if no cilantro was added rather it was poured from a can. The chips were ok but after tasting the "salsa" I was disappointed as that's usually the highlight. At least my sweet tea was pretty good. Oh the server needed something else to do as he was at the table every five minutes. As for dinner my daughter got the fajita nachos and seemed fairly unimpressed. It was mostly because the cheese was fairly bland but she did like the veggies as they looked and tasted charred. My other got the steak fajitas. While most of it was decent, the steak was TOUGH and had zero flavor. I literally had two bites and had to spit both out because I couldn't get through one bite. She did mention "wow usually it tastes a lot better." Her boyfriend seemed to echo the same point, WTH was up with the food. As for my meal, I tried the Enchiladas Bandera's. I thought it was ok. I liked having three options on one plate but I noticed all the sauces weren't very flavorful. I know being a former chef can taint my view, but most want to taste that "authentic Mexican" in every bite. I will say that the chicken and beef were cooked right and juicy and I liked the corn tortillas. I believe if the sauces had more "life" this would have been gone from an ok dish to an absolute winner. I'll say I was very pleased to have lettuce with sour cream and guac to round out a personalized tasting of each enchilada. Overall, I didn't come away with a great experience at Cancun. While the mood was perfect, the heat, and canned sauce flavors with over cooked beef threw off the whole experience. I'll admit I generally like to visit a place more than once just to be sure it wasn't a one-off experience; I don't have that luxury. My final words are if you want Mexican, consider somewhere else. read more

After loading up my daughter and all of her belongings to come home for the summer, my vehicle overheated and broke down as we were leaving UCM. We pulled into the parking lot of Cancun Mexican to try to figure out what was going on. As I struggled to lift the hood of my Chevy Traverse, two young men came out of the restaurant to assist me to asses the problem. Well, after taking the car down to Big O's tires, we have to stay until it can be repaired next week. Ugh. So, we got a ride back into Cancun for dinner. First, let's all recognize that this is a place in warrensburg.. so there aren't many options. (But there are way more than when I went to school out here) Food: It's fast Mexican food in a college town. Edible, but not top notch by any means. The prices are all around $10 for each meal. The drinks are made with cheap house tequila.. the smallest is only $3 (if that tells you anything) Service: The hostesses at the front are super sweet! The servers are rushing and not personable at all. Environment: Bathroom is not clean.. flies swarming the area. It just was not good. Stopped by Cancun for dinner while visiting Warrensburg. We were seated quickly and service was kind. We got some queso dip, which was very good. I also ordered a margarita, but it wasn't my favorite- overly sweet, in my opinion. My husband and I shared the fajitas for 2- SO MUCH FOOD. It was enough for at least 3 meals. Cancun Mexico meets all of your normal expectations when entering a Mexican restaurant. It has great decor and pretty good food. The biggest negative for us while visiting was the service. Our waiter barley looked at us while taking our order and did not visit the table the bare minimum after the food arrived. We did notice that he seemed to pay much more attention to the table with the large group of girls. Seeing as we don't live in the area and only visit about once a month, it's safe to say we will not be back in the future. Being from Arizona I would like to think we have pretty good Mexican food, which we do and visiting Cancun reaffirmed my belief that they lack good Mexican food in the Midwest. The salsa was weak, no flavor. A couple of my friends that had red sauce on their enchiladas said it tasted like spaghetti'os sauce. Beans were ok, rice was ok. Yeesh, where to start. The table we were sat at all the legs were messed up so it rocked horribly and it was dirty, like a full soaked napkin worth of margarita on it. The server noticed and said I'm sorry that's dirty while we cleaned it up then argued with a busboy and never cleaned it. The chips and salsa were ok, but a flavorless salsa and chips were cold and unsalted. We ordered the papa's local (fries covered in cheese, steak, sour cream, tomatoes, etc) and found the steak massively overcooked, no flavor to the cheese, and fries cold. This dish didn't go together at all. We then got the fajita quesadilla brava and found it to not be even close to a quesadilla (not grilled or sealed, didn't hold together.... more think some veggies and a few shrimp with a tiny bit of cheese on two cold uncooked tortillas). It was missing multiple items in it as well. Didn't eat most of it. We also got the fajita baked potato and the potato was massively undercooked (like raw) with some small pieces of overcooked steak and cheese on the side....why who knows. Also didn't eat most of this. We got no refills on drinks or chips despite asking and no napkins despite asking. Then after getting the check we immediately gave back payment and then watched the water leave the payment card in the machine near the entry and leave. I was able to luckily watch it but after 15 minutes or so of nothing happening, at that point another employee came by and told us the internet was down and they were working on it. Another 15 minutes went by with our card still unsecured and unattended near the front entry before they ran it. So much wrong here, but honestly I'd try taco bell before this again. read more

I have gone to the owner's other Mexican restaurant in Lone Jack, MO before and me and my fiancé stayed until closing. The staff was all a family and they were super nice to us and also kept us company until closing and even then we were the only guests and they did not mind. The service was incredible. Their margaritas served at the bar were perfect. So, then a few months later I met the owner down in Warrensburg, MO and he handed me his business card and said they are going to operate in Cancun! It was such a lucky coincidence. Needless to say that me and friends/family are there every Tuesday night, even on the weekends sometimes. Their food is fresh, tasty, authentic and so worth it for the price! Their margaritas/ frozen margaritas are tasty too. Beautifully done. A master piece. I ordered the Fajita Quesadilla with rice and beans. I turned to grab a chip and my order came out so fast it's like they had already expected my arrival. Fast yet delicious. My tastebuds have never felt so blessed while licking my plate clean, I recommend piling your rice and beans on top of your quesadilla. My only complaint is that the steak is cheap, and makes the texture overwhelming. So eating slowly is a tad bit difficult, but who am I to complain when god gifted me this beautiful meal. I go to UCM and when I started tending here last year me and my boy friend decided to try the local mexican restaurant, and when I say that was the best thing we could ever do, I mean it! Probably the most degrading restaurant experience I've had in Warrensburg. We had a party of five and asked to be accommodated for this group size. We were told that we had to 'smush' in to fit. Mind you she's talking to men who are 6'1, 6'5, 6'0 etc. We asked for a bigger area and it was like pulling teeth to have them 'try' to assist.
