First, I used to live in Overland Park 8 years ago but moved to Austin TX so everything in Warrensburg seems foreign to me. I say that so people don't get upset when I say, Players Restaurant is located in the middle of nowhere, but it's in a safe nowhere! Pulling up was an exciting moment as my oldest daughter was graduating first in her class, a year early from high school and I hadn't seen her in a year. That said, I walked in about 4pm and almost no one was there. I asked the bartender if I could sit in the main room instead of the bar and she was cool with it. Players looks like a sort of Applebees with "crap" all on the walls but upon closer inspection, the photos are of local people. This tells me it's an authentic experience which I gained a much fuller appreciation. My daughters both said they liked the food there, and I was about to meet "the boyfriend" so I was anticipating the encounter. He walked in and I immediately made fun of him to put him at ease (my daughter warned him that I used to do standup) so the vibe was very nice. Next the waitress came over and was so vibrant and courteous that I was impressed. Now, I really liked a lot of menu items I saw but I wasn't that hungry. Again, I'll bring this back later, but could this "redneck restaurant" really make good Saganaki (Greek cheese) and Calamari? Needless to say, I was extremely skeptical however my sweet tea arrived and was spot on. I even asked for NO lemon and she didn't put it in my glass. Forgive my doubts as I used to be a chef so I can generally spot a disingenuous effort before trying it. First up was the Saganaki which came over a burner. Wow, they got part of it right! As an aside, the cheese can be one of many types with Halloumi or a type of sheeps milk feta that's shallow fried. That said, and I hope they read this to add authentic zest to the experience, it needs to be flambeed and hit with a shot of lemon to offset the richness which very loudly proclaiming OPA! Aside from the theatrics it was extremely good and the warm pita was on the money! Next up I had already determined I was making a mistake ordering the calamari. Well, I was wrong again. The squid were perfectly fried and crispy lacking grease that most restaurants think is ok. Players hit it out of the park with my only addition being I would have liked an aioli with it otherwise the dish surprised me. My kids both got fettuccini alfredo with chicken. I tried two bites and found it was average. The sauce was somewhat bland with slightly overcooked pasta. I think most kids would love it but after people build up a good amount of knowledge with quality dishes, this one fell flat. I'm not saying it's bad, but I wouldn't order it. The pork tenderloin sandwich looked good but I didn't taste it. I was dumbfounded by the huge tenderized pork outsizing the bun 3 to 1 giving it the illusion of getting a lot for the money. My daughters boyfriend assured me it was good and wrapped up half to take home. To summarize my review shows that one should never go in with preconceived notions about a restaurant before trying it. Players proved me wrong more often that I'm willing to admit. The staff are very nice, the restaurant has soul, and the food overachieves. If you're in the area I will highly advise dropping by for what could be the best food in town. read more

The steak was so chewy I had to spit it out. It was a to go meal and when I opened the container I saw the sadest, most disappointing display is a 20 dollar meal I have ever seen. The mash potatoes cup was tiny and 1 1 small sliver of cold bread. I wish I had taken a picture, I felt bamboozeled. Well the service was great. The waitress was very attentive she kept checking up on us and our drinks were always full. Unfortunately the food was not the best. I got a tenderloin sandwich which was very salty. With a strange flavor I have never tasted. Some other people I was with feel they didn't get a good amount of food for the price that was paid. The bathrooms were very clean as well as the patio. On the patio they need new chairs because they hurt our backs and just weren't comfortable. read more

My husband and granddaughters went there last Saturday for dinner and according to him, they were seated and given a menu but, 30 minutes passed and no one came back to take their order. Few minutes later, a group of customers walked in and right away, the server took their orders while my husband and two granddaughters sat there, still waiting. Needless to say, they ended up leaving and going to Colton's where they had better service. We had the gyro sandwich and garlic parmesan popcorn shrimp, they were both very good. For our sides we had steak fries and the fried potato salad, again, both really good! My husband said next time he will get the fried potato salad over the steak fries. I wish there was an option to get the shrimp not breaded. The red sangria was just okay, and the tap water was not good. Our server was super nice and the hosts were really nice too. Service was pretty fast too. The saganaki appetizer was good. It is a great place to go for a good meal and a fun night out, considering the other offerings. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, from burgers and sandwiches to steak and seafood. The prices are reasonable and the food is always satisfying. The atmosphere is friendly and upbeat and the staff is always helpful and friendly and mainly busy. The major downside to Players Restaurant is the Keno game. The game always pays out less than the ticket guide shows, making it difficult to win big. This is a bit of a bummer since the game is there to help the children and it may only be helping someone elses pocket. Salads took 30 minutes to be brought out, with an additional 50 minutes for food, with one of our entrées being brought out wrong. Our family came to eat here our first week being here in Warrensburg around 3:30pm. The restaurant was quiet and roomy, we were immediately sat and handed the menu(s). My mom asked since we were handed a lunch menu if lunch portions were still being served- our waitress nodded. As we looked through the menu we saw a wide variety of dishes which looked amazing. Our waitress grabbed our drinks and promptly delivered them to us. We made selections some off the lunch menu and some off the dinner. I ordered the lasagna, my sister ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo. A few moments later our waitress came back to let us know that the lunch menu wouldn't be able to be purchased- no biggie so we upgraded to the dinner size. About once a month for the past couple years we have been coming to Warrensburg for my husband's job. Players has been a great place to have good ambience and great food. The customer service has ranged from OK to excellent. I would definitely recommend any of the Greek or Gyro meals. As a side for any meal I would definitely get the fried potato salad. While Players is not extremely expensive, the prices seem to range a little bit higher than other restaurants with the same food. Took my Dad and Stepmom here when they were in town, hadn't been here before either. I got the Souvlaki dinner, Dad had the lasagna, the Step-mom had a chicken salad. Everything was nice and clean, waitstaff was very friendly. I'd say the pork strips in my meal were pretty dry, but the flavor was good. There's definitely a shortage of great Greek food in the greater KC area. Dad said his lasagna was good too. I went here and ordered the chicken Alfredo. The wait time was pretty long which is understandable with the shortage in workers. The pasta was brought out and the noodles were cold. We asked to get it re made and they brought it out 5 minutes later. The bowl was piping hot and the noodles that weren't covered in sauce were now all dried out. The chicken was rubber.
