I enjoyed the meal I received which was the shrimp tacos. I liked how quickly we were sat and was told by the person I was with that the food comes out hot and quick and yeah that was definitely true! The service was quick and on point, a hell of a waiter. The is the second time I have ordered to go from this location and was incredibly Disappointed BOTH times. The first time I ordered Taquitos Mexicanos and not only did it only come with two instead of three but there was less than half a serving of rice, beans and toppings. The container was half empty. I also ordered cheese enchiladas and what I recieved was less than appetizing and cold, the cheese wasnt ven melted. I chalked this up to a fluke since I have always had a good experience in store so I ordered again tonight and once again- terrible. Not a full serving of ANYTHING. The Taquitos Mexicanos again were horrible. I got three this time but as you can see where is the meat?!? The rice and beans were cold and together didnt even equal a full serving. The queso dip and salsa was awesome as usual but I will not be ordering from this establishment anymore moving forward. This used to be my favorite restaurant in town but $40+ for cold, kids sized portions is too rich for my blood. I wanted to give them another chance, but if you arent eating in house they definitely take shortcuts. read more

We ate here after graduation. I don't have anything good to say. Nothing was right, the food was not what we ordered and when I told the waiter he told me that it was what we ordered. He asked if we wanted a to go box because it wasn't eaten and I told him NO we don't like it, it's not what was described on the menu. No apology and nothing offered to make it right. Our bill was $118.00. I will NEVER return to this restaurant and cannot recommend it to anyone else. read more

I have to say... when I originally tried El Monterrey I liked it. However, I am not sure what has changed since last August but it has truly compromised the integrity of the food. I'm simple when it comes to Mexican food, I love ANYTHING with shredded chicken, cheese & mixed peppers - BAM I am in HEAVEN. A few nights back I was crunched for time after work, so I ordered food to pick up. 3 chicken tacos, 1 shredded chicken nachos & a large cheese dip. I get home & start unloading the food from the bag when I realize two tacos were missing... yes it was frustrating but not the end of the world..... I called the restaurant & the employee argued with me that I only told him one....yet here I am charged for three on my receipt. Bitterly I bite into the taco... The chicken was so dry it literally sucked all the moisture out of my mouth. I couldn't even swallow it. Without a word to my husband, I slowly discarded the taco into my napkin. & continued conversation. After chips and salsa my husband digs into his nachos. One bite in & he makes a terrible face. I instantly knew but asked anyways.... "What's wrong babe???" He replied "I have no idea how to even start swallowing this, it's just lumped, dry & miserable..." after the customer service we received during our first call, we agreed to avoid this restaurant at all cost & just suck it up. We ended up eating frozen pizzas for dinner. How depressing. :-/ read more

Food was pretty good. We were seated straight away but it took like 20 minutes to get initially waited on.

I went to El Monterey over the Memorial day weekend. The food was poor and also the service. The waiter set a fire hot plate right in front of my infant who touched the plate! My mother instincts kicked in and I swated her hand away just in time before some serious burns occured. The waiter didn't apologize or even acknowledge his wrong. Afterwards, the server was rude to my father who requested a tea refill, the waiter refused to refill his drink until after he handed him his empty plate. Not to mention after arriving home I had a terrible stomach ache and emergency toilet session. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. After speaking to my father he explained he had the same stomach issue afterwards. He drove fifty mins. From Belton to see me and have a nice family dinner. read more

Horrible service and horrible food. Either the waiter didn't pay attention to our order or the cooks can't read. My family has dined there many times before and have never been treated as horrible as we did tonight. We had to send our food back twice before the waiter lis to us and after I showed him his mistake he blamed the cooks for messing up! I no understand why he never gave me his name like he should when we sat down. The money was definitely not worth our experience. Giving this restaurant a one is way more generous than they deserv. read more

I've been going here for a long time, and have always been satisfied. The tacos al carbon are fantastic, and all the usual orders are solid. The staff is friendly, and lunch is always lightning fast. But today. Wow. Today. I see the al pastor tacos on the specials menu and decide to go for that. Always a favorite, but this place turned out the best al pastor I've ever had, bar none. And I always order the al pastor when it's available. I had them all over the country, and these win. Not even close. I hope they make these a regular item. Just the right amount of heat and fruit. I was recently at this establishment with 2 of my friends. We went for dinner and margaritas and were brought our check immediately after we were done eating. We asked if we could order more margaritas and were treated like an inconvenience. After receiving our margaritas everything was okay for about 45 minutes. The staff began mopping next to us with chemicals that smelled so strong it was hard to ignore. The restaurant closes at 9pm and we were aware of this ahead of time. Between 8:40 and 8:55, 4 employees asked us if we wanted to go cups. At 9pm the staff congregated near our table and began to flicker the lights and laugh at us. At 9:02 a staff member walked up and said "we close at 9" I answered with "I know we only have a couple sips left" he answered with "okay we are closed" and walked away and laughed with his coworkers about the encounter. They continued to stand nearby and laugh and talk about us. It was only 7 minutes past close. At 9:10 we decided to leave because we felt so uncomfortable by the staff. When we were leaving, one of my friends said "we are never coming back because of this treatment" and a staff member answered with "good, please don't." I work at a very popular restaurant in town and I know that this treatment was unacceptable. I would be fired on the spot if I treated a customer in this fashion. We were not creating issues or staying long after close. I am very very disappointed in the way we were treated and for the first time in my life I wanted to take my tip back. read more

First timer! The hot tortilla chips were so good! The salsa it came with was also good, not alot of chiles so i think kids will like it too. My sis had the jalapeño margarita, it was ok, lots of tequila. My mom and i has taco salads with shredded chicken, we both finished them, delish! My sis had the Speedy Gonzales, beef taco and chicken enchilada, she finished her food too. Good customer service. They never had to refill our water because we had giant cups! Lol. I can't remember our server's name but she was fantastic and interacted with my toddlers and was very kind when my oldest refused to eat his beef taco because he wanted chicken more. I enjoyed getting to know her as we talked about Phoenix and UCM. Food was fast, fresh and fantastic! Glad I suggested it to my family to try when they came to town to see me! read more

The food is good and service was great. I had pork tamales which is something not all that common with most Mexican restaurants for some odd reason. Not a huge fan of the salsa served with the chips but it was free so no big deal. The margarita was tasty. We go here at least once a week. The food is tasty, the staff is friendly, and the service is exceptional. You can be in and out quickly for dinner, or you can stay and hang out while enjoying one of their jumbo margaritas. This was the third Mexican restaurant I we've tried in our town. I can honestly say it will be our "go to." First of all, the ambience was welcoming. The seating was plentiful, and the layout was just right for conversation and roominess. Hub and I ordered quesadillas, he beef and mine was chicken. The portion was just right, and very flavorful, with just the right amount of spicy, accompanied by the usual sour cream, guacamole, and Pico de Gallo. All was very fresh. Salsa and chips were excellent. A reasonable price, which is important for us older folks. Service was quite good, until time for the check. It was slow coming.
