We saw plenty of country fried pork steak images and some fried okra and both me and my husband decided to chose that. Our plate came with good smashed potatoes and gravy, and the nicest surprise was that the waitress brought us our own loaf of bread. Can't beat that! The restaurant appears like a side-road old restaurant, and while I am sure it's old and quaint, it just took me back to the 70s being a kid and eating at those bucolic small town restaurants during some road trip. While inside we noticed they had the TV on with an old show of Gunsmoke playing? It was really like a time warp. The service was good too, as we didn't have to wait long for our food either.

We ate Thursday evening at Smokey D's BBQ on Main St. in Chanute. Our waitress was helpful, cordial and attentive; and our food was on the table quickly. My husband and I both had the Thursday special: A burger covered with brisket, topped with cheese, then topped with either coleslaw or baked beans. Potato salad for the side. The brisket was delicious and tender, and the hamburger was very flavorful. Add a slathering of BBQ sauce, and you know this is worth a second trip to SE Kansas. I enjoyed the classic potato salad, but I do like how my husband makes it with a little Worcesterchire Sauce to kick it up a notch. We talked with the owner, Mark Davidson, and his wife. We also sampled the sweet and spicy BBQ sauce. We really need some of that when you get it in a bottle! We must come back to try other menu items. This restaurant is a jewel --- tasty food at a great price.

Better than expected. The service was top notch, and the food did not disappoint. I had the dinner with a little bit of everything. Ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket, and some sausage. All were tasty and i fell in love with that orange bbq sauce. It had a nice vinegar sas to it. The baked potato must have weighed a pound. They cut a v in the center which gave them room to stuff the butter and sour cream deep into the potato. Was very impressed with the side salad ( one of the 2 side options that come with meal). Was crisp, cold and delish. Could have quit eating after that and a roll. My to go box weighed a ton. I ate on the leftovers 2 more times. What a deal for about $17. Will definitely return again and again. I know people in Kansas say its not real bbq but for what we have in my town this place is a great go-to for lunch or dinner!

The bun was super soft. I can't say enough about how yummy this burger was, and the Susie Q fries were cooked to perfection. I hope to return to this area just to have a burger at White Grill!
