Place has potential, and it's mostly solid, but too much meh to give it a 4 star with what we had. Drinks and bread at table was great. Ravioli was decent. The crab cakes were average. The smothered chicken was just awful. It's honestly one of the worst chicken dishes I've ever had. No real flavor and ungodly dry. I took the entire thing home and turned it into something else. Want to go back and try their steak to see how it is, but as of now that being my only main entree really hurts this place. Service was nice, but a tad slow. Excellent food, excellent customer service. My husband and I were quite impressed on Valentines by the menu and the spirit of the staff. We will definitely be going back. I had the Halibut and my husband had a Ribeye. Even the left overs were delicious, you know as well as I do that reheating always takes away from the original flavor. Absolutely fabulous people, the owner is incredible and sooooo accommodating, the servers were fantastic, the space is gorgeous, and the food is outstanding. Be prepared for a little kick in some of the dishes.... And everything from the salads to the hummus to crab cakes (and I'm from the east coast where we know crab cakes!) were delicious. In our group, the duck breast was fantastic, the rib eye was perfect, and the seafood ravioli were special hits. Definitely go here if you are in Ft Scott! read more

My husband, I and another couple had dinner at Crooner's last night, it was unimpressive. When we walked in there were two employees behind the bar and a lady on the phone. The four of us stood in the bar area over 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. The guys behind the bar were just talking to teach other and completely ignored us, no eye contact or we'll be right with you, it was as if we weren't there. After about 6-7 minutes a young girl came from the dining room and ask if we had a reservation? We finally got seated and again sat unattended for several minutes. The restaurant was about half full, it was Friday night at 7:00pm, so not that busy and several employees, so not short handed. We didn't get one of the appetizers we ordered, the service was very slow and the food was just fair. Nothing was bad, just not anything special. Overall it's a neat place and could be a great little restaurant, but they really need to work on their customer service. Greeting customers and making them feeling welcome would be a good start! read more

We made it a point to eat here on our overnight stay in Fort Scott. This was the second time we have eaten there and it was better this go around even though we didn't think it could be possible. I ordered the KC strip and it was the best steak I have ever eaten. I'm not saying it is the best steak in the world just the best that I have eaten. They cook using a relatively new method and it makes it a perfect product. My wife had the pork medallions and they melted in your mouth. This place isn't the restaurant to go to if you are in a hurry. It took our party of three about an hour and 1/2 to complete our trip. But if you are sitting and enjoying your company what is the big deal? Don't go if you have to catch a movie. And it isn't cheap. My steak was over $40 but there were several items on the menu much cheaper. Spaghetti and homemade meatballs were only $15. So it is what you are in the mood for. We knew our food would cost more so we were okay with it. And the staff were incredible. Very attentive and very friendly. By the time we left we felt like we had known our waiter for years. If you go to eat sneak a peak at the theatre in the back. It is a beautiful piece of work. read more

I usually give high ratings. My experience was not the best. The smothered chicken didn't have much flavor. Lots of butter on the chicken and vegetables. The twice baked potatoes were very good. The worst part was the service. Nice people, but the entire experience took two hours. Getting salads was a half hour. Getting the check was a half hour. Perhaps they were short on staff for our visit. Either way, not a place we will return to. read more

I found Crooners on Yelp .. skimmed over the reviews but was too hungry to care. it had lots of stars so I chose it for dinner. Pleasantly surprised for a little town !!! Atmosphere was very nice. It has ambiance. ratings show $$ but I'd say $$$. We had Catfish, the Filet, Pesto Chicken Pasta. All 3 were fantastic. Dessert ... Apple tart with Cinnamon Ice cream. 10 STARS!!! We went to Crooners while we were in Ft. Scott, KS. It's locally owned and Jared, the owner, will stop by your table to see how you are doing. Our waitress was Jill and she was great. The food is very good and he has a great selection of wines in which if you are not a wine connoisseur that's okay because Jill or Jared will help you choose the right one. He also owns the Liberty Theatre next door, so buy a ticket to an event there, but take your date first to Crooners. read more

My wife and I had dinner here recently and were looking forward to a nice upscale dining experience. I will start by saying the food was not bad. I had the Ribeye and my wife had the walnut chicken. Both dinners we enjoyed. However It wasn't worth the price... We paid $75 for two plates and two drinks which we expected though we could find this food at any chain steak house. The reason I am giving 2 stars First when we arrived the front door was locked. It was an hour past opening and there were people inside and staff working. We knocked and waited and ended up having to call to get in. Once we were let in the staff member unlocked the door then proceeded to say loudly as he walked away that it was stuck and we should've just pushed.... The table we sat at wobbled like a McDonald's done in table. We mentioned it you our waitress and she just laughed and said sorry. The same waitress was short with us and only came to the table once besides our order and dewberry of food. We waited longer to get our check than the rest of our experience... 35 mins after she took our plates. (I asked for the check) Overall I was disappointed and let down because we thought that this might be the answer to FT Scott's lack of nice dining options. Sad to say it's not. Over priced food and service that is rivaled by fast food restaurants. read more

We met the owners hand and hand Jared and Rob absolute beautiful people so friendly so down to earth we were speechless!!! Crooners is a true bistro: the menu, which the chef writes on a large chalkboard, is different each week. However, you can count on finding at least 2 or 3 types of steak, of chicken, of seafood/fish, of pasta, etc. (The weekly menu can be found on their Facebook page.) While there are many standards on the menu --steaks, lasagna, etc-- be prepared for an occasional gourmet surprise, like escargot, octopus salad, and other things not typically found in small-town Kansas restaurants. Entrées are served with salad and when appropriate, with veggies and a choice of starch. There's good bread and real butter for the table. There's usually a very nice (also changing) menu of appetizers/starters and a limited selection of desserts. They serve beer, wine, and a full bar. Everything is very good, and many dishes are excellent. "Chef Jimmy" (chef/owner Jim Smith) is especially skilled at cooking fish perfectly. The steaks are also terrific. Many of the portions are large, so it's easy to split or take home leftovers. (The $15 lasagna feeds 2 easily.) The chef is very accommodating when it comes to most food allergies, vegetarians, and other special needs. The staff is wonderful. Paulette is the chef's wife; Jill and Jared are employees who are clearly like family to the owners. All three wait tables and tend bar. There are usually another couple of servers, too. Crooners is in an 1880s building in the Downtown Historic District. It's rather small --seats maybe 50?-- so reservations are a good idea. They're open 5:00 to 9:00 pm, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. On rare occasions (when the theatre they own next door has a live music show) they are open on Saturday night. They do private parties on-site and limited catering. Perfect weather is rare in Kansas, but in the Summer if it's not too hot, too windy, or too rainy, they will sometimes offer patio seating. Crooners is by far the best choice for dinner in Fort Scott, and it's amazing a town of 8000 people has such a wonderful restaurant. We eat there at least once a week, sometimes twice. read more

While the atmosphere is very nice and food wasn't terrible, we were just so taken aback by the rudeness of our server that I just can't rate them any higher. I like to ask for suggestions from the server because they know what dishes are popular and what people like. Our male server clearly didn't want to take the time to help me choose something I would like. He was impatient and arrogant and pretty much ruined the entire meal. This may sound strange, but it was almost like pure hatred in his eyes every time he spoke to us. Creeped me out! As for the food, the drinks were awful. The lasagne was fair, the Brussels sprouts were good. The walnut chicken was sickening sweet so I didn't like it. The salads might have been ok but neither of us liked the dressings that were on them. The experience was so disappointing, we had to have a make-up meal the next night. What a difference. The BBQ place in town is GREAT! (And I don't even like BBQ) read more

We ate dinner at Crooners on Saturday, March 4. First of all, it's the only good restaurant in Fort Scott by far. We were warmly greeted immediately as we entered and the staff was friendly. The waitresses know what they are doing. We had a bottle of pinot noir, hummus for appetizer, and crab cakes and lasagna for dinner. My GF rated the lasagna as a 9 out of 10, and she is a picky eater. My crab cakes were a 6 out of 10, 7 at best. The hummus was a definite 10. Best pita bread I have ever had as well. Only constructive criticism regarding the food is that my meal came from the kitchen luke warm, and on the cold side of luke warm. Dining there is not inexpensive so we should expect the food will come out hot and I mean hot. Plates should be hot to ensure food is hot. For desert we had the apple tart a la mode and it was very good. The decor is well done and the patio and theater are as well. I will definitely go back and do definitely recommend. read more

Terrible experience. Really the worst dining experience I have had in years. The food was way overpriced. I paid $25.00 for 10 oysters on the half shell for an appetizer just for starters. When we arrived the dining room was empty except for one other table of diners. It still took us an hour and a half to get our food! Meanwhile we were ignored by all employees as they continued to walk by us over and over again and they treated us as though we were invisible. It was obvious that we had been waiting a LONG time. But no one would address that fact or re fill our drinks. The baked Flounder that I paid $25.00 for was thin, overcooked and just tasted like butter. It was like eating a stick of butter. Butter was all you could taste. And I am pretty sure that what I was served was Tilapia. I dont think Tilapia is even on the menu, which tells me that they tried to pass off Tilapia as Flounder. My wife had crab cakes which she couldnt even eat. Our mashed potatoes were cold when our food arrived. We paid $100.00 to be ignored and eat poorly prepared food. Clearly, Crooner's fancies themselves as a fancy restaurant. But they have a long ways to go. I have had much better fish and a much better eating experience at Long John Silver's. Beware this place overcharges diners for undisclosed surcharges. They do not identify surcharges for vegetable side dishes on the printed menu, but slap on superfluous $2 charges for them. When you confront management about the surprise charges, you're brusquely told that's how it is and they offer no remedy. They make no apology for their oversight or for not training their staff to properly inform patrons. I do not endorse dishonesty and will not return. read more

Paid over $30.00 for Filet Mingon and it was bland at best. I found out later from an employee at restaurant that they use cow tenders which they buy for 7.50 a pound. They also cut corners on the other beef cuts they use. If I'm going to pay $30.00 -$40.00 for a steak it better be choice or prime. Shame on Crooners for ripping off the public. Give them a quality product for what you charge. read more
