I got the hamburger and and french fries it's just a good old fresh American hamburger french fries are crinkle fries. They are cooked to perfection. My wife got the breakfast. She loved it said it was amazing. The french fries was super crispy cooked to perfection. The waiter was fantastic. She did a good job when we were there. There was even this guy that would not stop talking their head off, but they just kept their cool and answered all of his questions for a good 25 minutes. Keep up the good work guys. It's really nice in there. Open lots of seating. They've got bar seating and tables. It just reminds you of a café. read more

Passing through and decided to dine local. The parking lot looked full on a Saturday morning, which is to be expected. There was no wait! You CAN NOT beat the prices. We both had the chicken fried chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy (I had white, sister had brown). We were driving home from a sister trip to Eureka Springs, AR and over the past 5 days had had some good food , some mediocre food and some downright disgusting food. We both agreed that our meal at 54 cafe was the best one overall we had had all trip. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it's a cute place with good service and great food. read more

Always our breakfast stop on the way back from Stockton and it's a good breakfast as we head to the airport. It's been remodeled over the last few years and looks significantly better. Friendly service, good coffee, tasty omelette and all for a reasonable price. What more could you ask for out of a spot off the highway after a weekend of fishing, friends and cocktails? I visited the cafe in April 2022 and it came into my mind again more than a month later. I was driving cross country and had gone out to the Osage Village State Historical site after spending the night in Nevada MO. I stumbled on this cafe on return and it was great place to roll into for breakfast. I just had something simple -- eggs, bacon, toast. The food was great and so was the service. Very clean on the inside, however the food is lacking. We will stop again the next time we pass through town.

You know I grew up in Nevada. When the Scism's owned this place years ago it was a place we went to on Saturday night for family dinner out. The food was pretty good and the service was that Mel's Diner attentive. Last time I was home I went out there for lunch - mainly because I wanted to say "hi" to Ruby who takes your money when you pay. She's the Mom of a good friend and always has a dirty joke when you leave. She's worth the bad food...well, almost. It's hard to ruin a hamburger steak and some boiled veggie. But finally the 54 has done just that. The carrots were tragic, the hamburger steak tasteless even with 57 Steak Sauce. My friend's chicken fried steak was dry and so thin it was more a cutlet than a "steak". My folks used to go once a week for breakfast with the "gang". It's hard to ruin breakfast food...but the ham steaks they used to have that were smokey country goodness have been replaced by some ham sandwich meat and the coffee is so bitter no amount of sugar could help. Service is still attentive and down home though. Hence 2 stars. I hate to speak bad of one of the few places in Nevada to go out and eat but skip the 54 and head over to Jenny's California Cafe or the White Grill for a bite. read more

Food is always good, i give it a 4 star now because they have gone smoke free, it was 3 star before. Wait staff is always friendly. Only complaints I have is that they seem to nickel and dime you to death on everything. Also, they charge an extra fee to pay with a credit card. I understand the reason but that seemed tacky. read more

We made an impromptu stop here on our way through to KC. The service was speedy and pleasant despite being pretty busy for lunch time. The breakfast items were typical diner food, a little greasy and a little bland. I also thought everything was a bit overpriced. Kids menu averaged $5 and Sandwiches do not include fries. The sausage on my plate was burnt, in fact on several plates that went passed me the sausage looked burnt, one member of our party said the biscuits and gravy he had at the motel he stayed at in Branson the day before was better than he had at this restaurant, my grandson wouldn't eat the French toast, my wife even thought it had a strange taste to it. read more
