The Susie q fries were super greasy and all clumped together. The gal taking my order seemed like she'd rather be anywhere but there, not friendly at all and made it seem like I was bothering her. I want to love this place, but I'm having a hard time. I do like the food but the service the last two times have not been very good. I always like the "mom and pop" drive in dairy del places. As you'll see, this place has a lot of options to choose from. I opted for a chili dog and fries. They're using a hot dog with a bit more spiced flavor taste. The chili was good enough - that was fairly wet - but not full on runny by any means. Fries were your typical drive in fry - certainly came out hot. The hot dog came out good and hot. And if you're a pebbly ice fan, then you're in business at this place! Indifferent teenage employees who forgot to get us out Suzi Q fries. Then undercooked the fries. Recooked them and still soggy and ladened with 1,000 year old grease. Floor is coated in a thick layer of grease. Took half an hour to get the original order with only one other couple in the place. Positive is that it's relatively cheap. Classic diner atmosphere. Owner has abandoned running the business to kids who hate working. I did witness an employee take ten plus minutes to make two shakes. Stopped to get gas off the highway on the way home from KC and noticed this cutie little drive-in across the road. My husband and I were hungry and not looking to make another stop on another exit so I was delighted to see food nearby. Man this place is a blast from the past with a walk up counter outside or a little diner inside to sit in. They have a wide but simple menu. I had a regular cheeseburger and my husband had a double cheeseburgers. We were both satisfied with our food. It was just plain good, nothing fancy just good burgers. There isn't much advertisement from the highway so keep your eye out. Will definitely stop here on future trips read more

To say that Swopes is a slice of Amaracana, no wonder things are a SH!t show. We stopped by there to grab a quick snack and jump back on the highway.. The little blonde waited and watched  until I walked all the way up there cane in hand just to grin  "well were closed". Checked the time it was supposed to be still open. One of my favorite places to stop when I travel back home. I worked here all through high school and the family is absolutely wonderful. For those of you that are NOT familiar with Swope's, do yourself a favor and order the Susie Q's! They are hand peeled potatoes that are sliced up when you order, dropped in the grease and delivered golden brown. To eat them just pick them apart with your fingers. The burgers are hand made of quality beef. The "Swope Burger" has special homemade sauce, three buns, grilled onions and 2 beef patties. YUM! This place really is a blast from the past, a traditional family owned dairy queen. I can't say enough great things about it (just don't plan on being on a diet!) Get plenty of napkins! read more

Wow! This place really was fun and had great food! I had the Swope burger and Susie Q's with a Cherry Coke. This Drive In took me back to my childhood days with the old walk up drive ins where you would get the best ice cream with your friends and then go off into the country side riding your bike! This was a fun place to visit. Like other reviews said, the burger patties were small (maybe ask to have two patties when you order), but the taste was good. The Susie-q fries were good but super greasy (like sitting in a pool of grease in the bottom of the plate) but also good. I agree that it's better then the standard fast food options. I liked the small town feel and decor (albeit slightly dingy) but still a fun place to say "I've been there". We would probably go back. Thanks Swopes! read more

I try to stop every time I travel on Highway 49. Sunday lunch is crazy, so be prepared to wait. Get the Swope's burger, huge with double meat and cheese. The special sauce makes the burger special. I dropped in early one day and caught a glimpse of the cook hand-cutting the potatoes for that day's fries. They are that fresh and that good. Try the ranch fries for something a little different.. This place has the longest wait. The first time I came the wait was an hour and 30 minutes for greasy fries and hamburgers. We asked for our drinks multiple times but they never gave them to us until the very end. The employees didn't seem the nicest. The second time we came because we thought it might of been better, we waited for at least 30 minutes to an hour. The second time the food was way more greasy and they got our order completely wrong. We ordered just normal cheese burgers with everything available and one was plain while the other one had one grilled onion. The fries were also soggy and uncooked. I would suggest it not to be worth your money and time since you could get better at a fast food place for a lower price. read more
