Although Westfield is ridden with Italian fare, Farinolio offers something different from them. Focaccia sandwiches are light, but filling. I had their Cecioni- porchetta with arugula and I bit into some tasty pieces of salt. Yes, it was nice. However, I prefer my daughter's Signorini - prosciutto with mozzarella and tomatoes. The nice lady this afternoon made an excellent espresso macchiato. For dessert, I tried Dolci Toscani. It's basically nutella-filled cookie that would probably paired better with hot tea. An absolute must when you are in Central Jersey! The signorini sandwich work prosciutto, mozzarella and tomatoes is absolutely incredible as are the sweets. The brioche croissant stuffed with custard is incredible and so are the Nutella stuffed muffins and Italian cheesecake (ricotta tart with chocolate chips). Was in and out in 5 minutes for takeout. Updated review. The sandwich is definitely fresh and high-quality. I had a double espresso and a sandwich it was $24.10. I understand inflation and the cost of food, but 7 dollars for a double espresso is still pretty steep, plus the price of the sandwich $16. It's not like you can share it. Their desserts are the star. Wish they had more vegetarian options. It's very authentic but I probably wouldn't go back for the $24 lunch for myself. read more

This Italian-theme cafe is a big success after a year in fancy-pants Westfield. Notwithstanding the high prices, this is a really nice place to get a bite to eat and a coffee. It's almost like being transported back to Italy, until you look out the window. Their focaccia bread and sandwiches, croissants and pastries are excellent. They also have a small selection of imported gourmet items from Italy for sale--olive oil, balsamic vinegar, bags of bread flour, Venchi chocolate bars, etc. I have to knock off a point for the awkward arrangement of having to order at the counter, then the bottleneck at the register with no place to stand while you wait to pick up your order and pay. Fast and friendly service, delicious food, prices are a touch on the pricey side but, the quality and house-made value of things definitely justifies the cost. Not a complaint, just making a point. I wasn't thrilled about $4/doughnut, however they were tasty. Also the coffee wasn't very good in my opinion, but I'm a snob who home roasts regional small lot coffee beans. After following Farinolio, and salivating over Facebook, I finally made it there for lunch today. The experience exceeded my expectations and was made all the more special by the lovely young woman at the counter, Eden! Warm, friendly and informative about the delicious looking array of food. I and my friend enjoyed the Signorini...prosciutto de Palma, mozzarella, tomato and a very red delicious tomato. Despite enjoying the whole sandwich we made room for dessert...the Torta Della Nonna is superb....I tasted a sampling size of the bomboloni...hadn't had that in years and only in Italy. I noted in other reviews the word "pricey"... maybe so, but you get what you pay for...and in my opinion, it was well worth the splurge. Will definitely keep Farinolio on my short list of favorite places. read more

What happened here? When they first opened the bread was spectacular. Now it's just not good. I hope they get their act together when they open in Summit. I feel like I've been transported to Italy. The sandwiches at Farinolio taste like the sandwiches I fell in love with at All Antico Vinaio in Florence. The key components of a good sandwich are freshly baked bread and high quality ingredients. Farinolio delivers. My sandwich, the boldini ($11) was a simple sandwich of thinly sliced golfetta salami and stracchino cheese. It was the perfect combination of salty from the salami, creamy from the cheese and crunchy from the delicious focaccia bread. I also sampled the crostatina alla Nutella ($5.60) which was a buttery tart filled with Nutella filling and topped with cocoa powder, powdered sugar and a hazelnut. It was also delicious. TL;DR: Farinolio is, without a doubt, an absolute gem - one of the best cafés I've ever been to. If you want authentic Tuscan food made with skill and passion, go here. You've never had Italian pastries this good. Forget Bovella's. The service here is impeccable. Real Italians, real hospitality, real food. Get yourself a cappuccino and a pastry on a rainy day, sit by a window and enjoy. Why go to Boxwood or Rock'n Joe's when you can go to Farinolio? The best cuppa I've ever had the pleasure of sipping has been here. Their pastries are fresher and less sugary than Bovella's. Their flatbreads are so flaky and fresh you'll be dreaming of them after you finally taste them. There's plenty of vegetarian options here, too. The staff has always been friendly, and will get to know you as a regular. They're informative and genuinely love their professions. It shows in the food and their interactions with patrons. You'll encounter a lot of rich yuppie WASP types here (it IS Westfield, and there's a station nearby for NYC commuters) so be prepared to deal with that. I always find it makes me exceptionally anxious to be around such types, although here I hardly noticed them - the fare is so good. Despite the numerous Italian bakeries in the area, I still struggled to find one to my liking until I decided to try Farinolio. I'm so glad I did! I love how there are glass panes in the back that let you see into the baking process and see the love put into the food. That feeling is extended by the staff behind the counter. I came here in the morning for the first time and while in line, not only was I greeted with warmth, but the staff greeted regulars by name and seemed genuinely interested in how they were doing and remembered their usual orders. Things like this highlight the small town feeling that you can get from a town like Westfield. For the food itself, I thought it was pricy but also expected such prices being in downtown Westfield and for the artisan quality of the food. While I enjoyed everything that I had, including the coffee, my favorite was the cookie. That cookie alone was 5 stars--it was that good! One of many reasons why I love Westfield. Stumbled passed here with a friend to grab a quick bite and it checked off everything we were looking for. Service was quick, menu was easy to choose from, and seating was easy to get. You walk through a showcase of different pizzas, sandwiches, and pastries, and point out which ones you'd like to order. Way in the back is a working kitchen where you can see the cooks and bakers knead dough and make the pizzas. I love the pastries and deserts they had. Everything looked so good! They have a coffee menu (think strong Italian coffee - espressos, cappuccinos, etc.) but they also have tea and hot chocolate. Once you order on line, you can pick a small table (or sit on the nice wooden communal table). We ordered a pizza and it was okay (I wish they offered to heat it up). The Nutella cookies were amazing. The tea was also great and so was the coffee. The ambiance of the place is very homey-industrial. Makes you want to sit and chat with friends all day. Really wanted to like this place, but our experience was lackluster. The food looks pretty, but falls short in the taste department. We also were probably overcharged. For two sandwiches, two cappuccinos and two small pastries, we payed $68, without tip. We ordered two sandwiches; while the meats and cheeses were delicious, the focaccia was INCREDIBLY dry, like cardboard. So sad as they could of been exceptional sandwiches. For desserts, we ordered a Torta de Semolina and a raspberry Bombolone. Torta was unbalanced and dry. Couldn't finish it. The jelly bombolone was delicious; would come back for this!
