Sadly, Far Hills Pharmacy appears to be closed for good. I found out about it in a local newsletter. If you look on-line, it says they're "temporarily closed." Unfortunately, my instincts are that that "temporarily" is destined to stretch on into "eternity." I can't say I've had a whole lot of experience with this place, but it's the epitome of an old-fashioned, small-town pharmacy, and the fact that it's gone is not good. As I've mentioned, the 1st time I came here was with my old friend for a milkshake, and I remember it being a damn good one. The next time was a year or 2 ago. My nose was running like a sieve, and I just felt crummy. This usually happens at least once every winter, and my usual remedy was Day-quil and Ny-quil. After a few days, they tended to work, but I was always left with a splitting headache, and it always took a few days before I was cured. Fed up, I decided to come to Far Hills for new medication, and the pharmacist was very helpful, much more so than in large chains like Walgreens or CVS. He asked me a few questions about my overall health, then recommended Coricidin "Cold & Flu" pills, plus a supplement designed to boost my immune system. The price was very reasonable. He cautioned that it might make me sleepy. I went home, took the pills as directed, and the next day I was vastly improved. I returned again sometime later for a milkshake and learned that they didn't make them anymore. Sad, but I got an ominous feeling from that. My last visit was a few weeks ago. There was no one at the front counter, and the 2 men working were on the phones, having in-depth conversations about the perilous state of the pharmacy's finances. The pharmacist was polite, apologized to me for the long wait, and rang me up without further distractions, but that ominous feeling had become a commanding sense of dark foreboding that the pharmacy was not long for the world. It's really too bad. I hate to see small, independent businesses fail, whether they're bookstores or pharmacies. Not too long after that last visit, I went to my local Walgreen's to pick up my prescription headache medication (yeah, I feel guilty about it, but I've been coming here for decades and only became aware of the Far Hills Pharmacy during the past few years) and couldn't help but reflect on the differences. Walgreens was larger, had more aisles, was more densely stocked with everything from Unisom pills to cough syrup to paper towels to vaccinations. But I for one will miss the homey, hands-on touch of the Far Hills Pharmacy, despite my limited experiences with it. I don't know how long they were in business, but it just feels very sad. Now the new owners are charging me a surcharge of $20.00 for the same prescription because it's a better quality generic drug. Far Hills Pharmacy is an awesome small personalized service pharmacy right by the intersection of 202 and 206. This is one of the best stores, if not the best store in the area. Yes they obviously are a pharmacy and sell all that stuff but they are so much more. In the back of the store is a full health food store with a full time nutritionist working there and doing private consultation by appointment. My favorite feature is in the front of the store, they have an old fashion soda fountain. You can order Milkshakes, Egg Creams, ice cream floats, whatever you want. Additionally their service there is great, I have never been in a pharmacy with nicer employees. read more

Great pharmacy. The customer service is amazing, you can't compare it to any CVS ect. They treat you like family. They also have tons of vegan oils, essential oils, and many many healthy intagrative medicine. The wait is never long. Also big tip if you need a emergency refill a pharmacist will open just to help you! They also have a fun old school soda fountain, ice cream counter. Super cute products. Robert is amazing. I love Far Hills Pharmacy. Although I've lived in the area almost 20 years, I never filled my prescriptions there, but would pop in with my kids when they were younger for an ice cream or pick up some vitamins or cream from the back of the store. Well, last year, I had finally had it at the big chain pharmacy. I decided not to tolerate the long waits, rudeness, telephone answering machines, and mix ups. Best decision ever - why did I wait so long!? Someone always answers the phone at FHP, they are polite and friendly, and if there's a wait, it's a short one. After 20 years of patronage, during which I was always asked and was willing to pay an extra $3 on every purchase for added service (whatever that means) an error was made in filling my prescription. The bottle I was given had a BROKEN SEAL and only 1/2 OF THE CORRECT NUMBER OF PILLS WERE IN THE BOTTLE. When I tried to rectify the situation by phone, I was told I had to come in person to the pharmacy, so that the pharmacist could look on the bottle I was given to find the odd, hand written symbols, notations and non-word marks and short hand which she apparently uses to remind herself of things. The pharmacist was only there a few days that week, that did not coincide with my schedule and the following week, I was at home sick. When I was on my feet again and I tried once again to schedule a time to meet with the pharmacist, I was told that the pharmacist was away on vacation. I asked to speak to the head pharmacist since I would be going away and i needed the matter rectified. I was not angry or impatient. In fact, ai felt very pleased that we had a fair amount of time yet to solve the mystery of the missing pills and broken seal. Immediately following, the responding pharmacist, Robert, whom I believe to be the owner launched into an aggressive and nasty speech about how I should have come earlier as I was told and how the pharmacist who my prescription "is freakishly accurate so..." I felt as though I was being accused of telling a lie. Still, I was not upset but more confused than anything. Robert would not allow me one word to even explain that I had been very ill with a fever at home the week earlier. When I was finally given a split second to speak, he interrupted me multiple times to mock me, never once allowing me to explain. Ultimately, I heard a dial tone and I believe that the PHARMACIST HUNG UP ON ME.. My husband had to call him back and the matter is still not solved. I have never been treated so badly. I literally wondered whether the pharmacist was in a stable state of mind at that moment. I will pursue this matter with the pharmaceutical division of the consumer affairs department and any other authoritative boards. After 20 years of patronage, I remain in absolute shock over the way I was treated. read more
