Baron's is one of the longest-standing, most respected anchor businesses in downtown Westfield, and I've been a customer here as long as I've lived in the area, which is most of my life. The lead pharmacist knows me personally after so many years, and I'm on a first name basis with him as well. It pains me to write this review, but something disturbing happened. My wife's doctor wrote her a scrip for a necessary prescription medicine, and not only didn't they have it in stock, nor were they willing to order it as they would otherwise do, but they repeatedly insisted that such a thing is not made and does not exist. So, my wife called the local Walgreen's, and they had it on the shelf. She was told to just get another scrip from the doc and come down and pick it up, which she did. I love Baron's and have gone there for years. Now I don't live in town but drop in whenever I am in Westfield. I stopped in yesterday for poison ivy remedy, didn't find what I was looking for, and passing thru, noticed a display of lovely dinner napkins. However, there was no indication of price. A fellow was walking by, he appeared to be an official/employee kind of person. I asked, hi, do you know how much these are? I don't see a price...and, without breaking stride, he said, "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." I, and the ladies close by, were drop-jawed!!! read more

When I was a kid (when dinosaurs roamed the Earth) and my mother said "We're going to the Drug Store" it did not mean we were going to Walgreens or even Duane Reade. Generally it meant we were going to some local mom and pop store where prescriptions and vitamins took a back seat in my mind to all the OTHER stuff the store had to offer. Braon's Drug Store took me back to those days. Located in downtown Westfield (across the street from the Rialto Theater), this store is a little bit of everything. Sure, there is a section with a Pharmacist and various health related items (including orthopedic equipment and other larger items). However on the other side of the store is a long counter with various goods like perfumes. Next to that is a huge perfume/soap section. Across from that are shelves of items ranging from toys to a T-Rex lamp (no, really). You can kill some serious time just browsing the aisles. But wait, there's more! Head on towards the back of the shop and you hit a section with items for your backyard, greeting cards and candy! I was amazed how deep the store went (leading to another entrance/exit) and was completely charmed by the sheer variety of product. This is one of the businesses that has had a long history in Westfield, and having finally visited I can see why! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I work in town and go here a few times a week, and the woman manning the register is one of the rudest people I've ever encountered. I was waiting patiently to be rung up while she was putting things away and then she glanced up at me and I said "I'm ready to be rung up whenever you are but take your time" and her response was in an irritated tone "sure I'll jump as high as you want me to" I was in no way impatient and did not at all deserve this response. As someone who works 40 hours a week in retail I try to go out of my way to be nice to other retail workers and to get that as a response really upsets me. This is also not the first time she has given me attitude for simply being asked to do her job. I will not be going to this store again. read more

I cannot recommend Baron's Drug Store highly enough. I fill all my prescriptions here. The pharmacists know me by sight and name and they see my as a person, not a number. My doctor knows them and vice versa, and act like a team on my behalf. I moved my prescriptions here a few years ago from a big chain pharmacy, and the difference is night and day. There's no substitute for a local old school pharmacy. Baron's employees provide you with the customer service that's slowly, and sadly, been disappearing as the big chains take over. They go out of their way to look out for the customer's best interest. Well worth going out of your way--the service outshines the convenience of the big chain. Most of these reviews that give it 5 stars was before the new owner took over Barons. Since then it has gone downhill. The only good change is the credit card machines, that's about it. I used to love the atmosphere at Barons, but now it feels dead and corporate. There is a new woman pharmacist they seemed to hire now who is rude and not welcoming at all. They should have just kept Mike, Lisa, and Pat, who are one of the only reasons I continue to use Barons, but for how long. The staff is the other thing keeping me there. They have always been so kind and friendly, makes shopping a joy, but now it seems like every time I come in they are being watched over by either this new pharmacist or (I'm assuming) the new boss. Either that, or it seems like there is nobody in the store. Leads to longer times waiting at both counters. There is nobody in cosmetics anymore, so why would I bother going there when I can go somewhere where I can actually get help. The new owner seems like he cares more about money than anything else, as shown through his choices at the pharmacy. It was once such a joy to go there, but now I look for every excuse not to go there. So disappointed in the change to Barons. read more

I really like this place but the employees have been rude. One time I saw a girl hand the cashier a dollar and the cashier was like you know it's very, very rude they hand someone a folded dollar bill and then rolled her eyes. Also I get that it's for security but you can't walk threw the front of barons if you have a backpack on. And once I was really hungry and I bought a bag of chips there and while I was waiting for my friends I started eating my chips. They got mad at me for eating my chips even tho there were no signs of not being able to eat anything and one of them was even eating chipotle. read more

Amateur Hour at the pharmacy counter. Stressed out staff behind the counter continously bumping into each other like keystone cops. Largely due to not having a separate area for Rx "drop off" to eliminate some of the traffic at the register. Common sense should tell them most drug stores have a small area for this and any private convo.s people want to have with their pharmacist, yes? There is always a sense of...tension amongst the staff from being too close to each other all the time perhaps(?) Two waiting chairs placed directly in front of the register - facing the register (just a few feet away). Customers sit and stare at them as they wait 10 mins for Rx. Again, common sense? The main pharmacists go to the register area where all the main traffic is to have any kind of private convo. about Rx with individual customers. Common sense? Do you wonder why there's always tension in the air? In a nutshell - it's a small pharmacy in the upper crust section of Westfield that is attempting to have the feel of a local mom and pop place - but definitely fails:( read more

We go to Barons because its close and friendly but I will never go in there on Friday afternoon again.The gentleman that was standing at the front door like a bouncer at an NYC nightclub had to let no more than 5 tweens in at a time so the store didnt get overrun. I thought i was at a Justin Beiber concert and not at a neighborhood pharmacy.If my child was caught acting this way out in public i would be absolutely embarassed to be called a parent read more

I used to think highly of this independent store and that it exemplified small town family values and service. Recently though I've seen the way that the owner has treated the employees, including apparently firing a long time employee (over a decade there) via the phone instead of in person, and have to seriously reconsider patronizing this store. read more

Baron's is incredibly discriminating. I've heard that some boys had broken something in the store, and now all of a sudden no teens or children are allowed in through the front unless they're with a parent. You must go around the back. An employee stands there guarding the doors and then tells you (in a very rude way I shall add) to go around back, where there are dumpsters and parking lots. They believe that all teens and kids want are candy but half the time my friends and I will be looking for something else. Also, can adults not break things? The staff in general is very rude and won't let you even touch anything if you're not picking it up to buy. Don't even bother going there because I have given up with this overpriced drugstore, even with complaints to the manager. read more

I went to Baron's drugstore to look for a gift for my friend's birthday. While there I dropped a small glass dish with a spoon (as I only had one hand to lift the bowl as I was holding my young 8 month old in my other hand) and it shattered on the floor. Immediately I apologized and asked how much I owed them for the dish. The owner of the shop gave me glaring looks, wouldn't talk to me, and when she did gave me extreme attitude. The young girl ringing me up for the bowl I just broke seemed upset that I was paying as she knew it was an accident and the other woman with her seemed hesitant to make me pay. After I finished paying I asked if I could keep the spoon as I knew my friend would like it and the owner dramatically cut the spoon from the lid of the bowl I dropped and handed it to me angrily stating she couldn't get all the rope off. (I still do not know why she wouldn't give me the lid as well as I had paid for it). I WOULD NEVER COME BACK HERE AFTER HOW RUDE THEY WERE TO ME when I handled the situation as apologetically as possible. BE WARNED! read more

I will never go into this drug store again! My son has the flu and I was told by his Pediatrician that Tamiflu is sold out in most places but that Baron's has it. Well, I found out why when I got there...this prescription is typically $140 at most other pharmacies, but Baron's just tried to rip me off by charging me $244!!! Don't get scammed by these people just because you may have to wait a day or two for your medications! This is not right! I am just trying to do what is best for my 8 year old son...I am a single mom trying my best and it is businesses like this that should be out of business!!!! I wish I could give them 0 stars because that is really what they deserve! read more
