This review is strictly about their EYE BROW WAXING. Nancy and Natalie are the two main ladies who do eyebrows and Nancy (the older of the two) has waxed my eyebrows for more than 10 years. I'm always very happy with the way they look, plus the procedure is dirt cheap at $10 (+ the additional $5 tip that I always leave). This place is not really that clean...in fact, it's a little ghetto. I have high standards for beauty services in terms of cleanliness, but I admit that I make an exception for Nancy - I'm that pleased with her service and I'm that big of a fan. Although I hate laying on the bed after someone's greasy head has been on it and although I hate the fact that both Nancy and Natalie use the same wax pen for every customer, I suck it up and get through it for the sake of well groomed eye brows. I've gone to several, higher end places that charge three times as much, and I have been very dissatisfied...and so I keep coming back to Nancy. Here are a couple of tips: If you want the best results, come when it's slow so Nancy can take her time. If you come when it's busy, your service will be rushed and you run the high risk of leaving with not so pretty eyebrows. Soooo....come right when they open on the weekends or come during the weekdays. Nancy is off Monday and Wednesday. For the procedure, wear a hoodie and sweats. Ok, ok, ok, ok. This place is waaaay GHETTO true. But I am sooo guilty of liking this place. **The only reason they are getting 4 stars as opposed to 5 is because of their cleanliness and clientele. I've been coming here for over 10 years! And yes they are not the nicest people, but I think it's just a culture thing. And yes they always speak in Vietnamese while other clients are around, but again I think that's just a culture thing. They are totally FOB and they probably don't even know they are being rude. Every once in a while I do get an eyebrow that is less than perfectly straight but it might just be my face that 'do laike dat' but it's always a clean wax. Their manis and pedis are truly the best. YES, I am terrified of getting some fungus there one of these days but no one can top their pedi's, they just do a damn good job for so damn cheap! I've had $70 pedi's at nice salons and they are just not thorough, they dip your shit in fancy lotions, rose petals and give you a paraffin dip but it's still never as good as my $20 ghetto ass pedi and $10 mani. Fantasy always digs deep under those nails to make sure you're clean, does a perfect square file, and the color is always perfect. Lee does a stellar job at her french, that girl does a perfect thin line every time! **After you become a regular they are friendly and greet you by name. They lack in being likable people. But that ghetto salon does a good job :) However it does depend on who you go to. Natalie for eybrows ONLY Lee for Mani/ Pedi ONLY No one else there will touch my feet! First with Nancy... but I've switched it up and have been going to Natalie for the past year. Although Nancy is good, Natalie takes her time and is very sweet. In my teens my eyebrows where pretty bushy and I could not get them to shape. I went to several high end beauty salons to have someone shape them for me. So expensive yet these ladies could not get the job done. One day I walked in to Fantasy Nails (when it was next to Cards and the beauty supply store, yes I am that old! LOL) and met Nancy. She did an amazing job on my eyebrows. This place is not super fancy or anything but both Nancy and Natalie know what they're doing. I remain faithful to Nancy although Natalie is excellent. If Nancy is not in Natalie does them. I do suggest calling in advanced Fri-Sunday. It can get pretty busy. I live farther now and sometimes go somewhere else if I do not have time to come to Nancy, In the end I always have to come back. No one can shape my brows like her. Man...I know we're hard up for good nail salons in San Jose. But Fantasy Nails??? Number two? Really? I used to work in Eastridge and would get my eyebrows waxed here every friday out of convenience. They were okay. Nothing spectacular. So I brought my sister here 2 years later thinking an "Okay" eyebrow waxing is better than a "Baby Jane" eyebrow job....Well, lets just say my sister was in tears because her eyebrows are "her thing" and I couldnt stop staring at my eyebrows. And I dont mean that in a good way. Her eyebrows didnt match. She told them to clean up, but no shaping. They cleaned up alright. They cleaned up the whole joint. Half of her eyebrow tail was gone. I was in dire need of a pedicure and since the line at the post office was extremely long, I decided to come here on a whim. NEVER AGAIN. Upon entering, the place looked half decent. There were quite a few people waiting to get their eyebrows done and only 1 other person getting their toes done. That should have been my first clue. My technician (I have no clue what her name is) was decent. She was nice and appropriate. Nothing stellar to note. This place gets 2 stars for cleanliness. The foot tubs next to mine were riddled with grit and grime. I noticed the grossness inches away from me a little too late so I couldn't walk out. A few of the tubs were filled with what I'm hoping is detergent or some sort of antibacterial. I am a stickler for cleanliness and this place gets 2 thumbs down from me. PLUS when I turned around, I see a COCKROACH rearing it's ugly head a few chairs down!!! GROSS! I walked out of there itching to wash my feet and legs and praying that I don't get any Staph infections. I haven't been back since the last time I came and who knows if the tubs are still as dirty. I've been going to Nancy for what seems like FOREVER. Even when I moved away, the first stop I would make when I would come visit was Nancy's. Now that I'm back in San Jose, you can find me on Nancy's table religiously every other week. It only costs $10 for eyebrows and the best times to go is Tuesday or Thursday for Nancy (her days off are Monday & Wednesday). I stopped going on weekends because I notice that when there's a line, she always seems to rush me off her table. I refuse to make an appointment because I notice even the people who have appointments have to wait ... so I don't wast my precious anytime minuets. All in all, its a cheap place and you come out with pretty nice eyebrows ... unless you go in on a really busy day, then you might have pretty nice CROOKED eyebrows! The woman working on my mani/pedi worked on my nails for only 10 minutes and it came out uneven and thick at the ends. Then for my pedicure she only did 1 coat of color and filed the SKIN of my toes. I've been having my brows waxed here for over 6 years now. I love Natalie! She's the best at waxing and if you want to see her, expect a wait or call for an appointment in advance. You might want to try out either girl to see which one you prefer. Brow is $10 and lip is $5. Let me warn you that the place doesn't look all that great. I have been getting my brows done here for yearrrs. The only problem is that I dont go on a regular basis because I tend to get lazy waiting because there is ALWAYS a wait for Nancy or Natalie. I love both of them but I prefer Natalie when they are both busy because Nancy will sometimes rush through my eyebrows and make them too thin or a little crooked. Natalie on the other hand likes the fullness of my eyebrows and just shapes them to look clean because I dont like them super thin. I also dont break out as much when I go to Natalie. I like the fact that when they are working on you, you are lying down so you can relax while they work and you are in a separate little room. Being in Eastridge is so convenient because you can go shopping for a cute 'fit for the night and get your eyebrows done right after without even leaving the mall! My friend and I needed to kill time before our movie. She suggested getting our nails done. I figured sure...I got a pedi and she got a mani pedi. It was nice it looked like it was slow that day for them so they took us both in right away. The place is pretty big with more nail stations than I've seen in most places. It was very quiet too...not the very social hustle and bustle I'm used to in other nail salons. They were all viet...but I spoke to them in English so they thought I wasn't viet myself...so yes, I did hear some mini grumbling and gossip which amused me but I didn't care. Lien was the technician I had and she did a very thorough job. She did a good scrub on my feet and I know it's gross..but I do have some bad callouses since I do run a lot. For my pedi it was $20 and I gave a $5 tip. Not too bad for a place in the mall and I did appreciate the thorough work she did. The worst experience I've ever had. I came here on Saturday night last weekend and i got my nails done by an old technician. She was very cute and friendly but she was very slow and clumsy too. Cuz she has no experience about color consulting so my hands look like a dead body after painted and it's worse than my kids painting. I've waxed my eyebrows only twice in my life, and never again am I coming to this place. I walked in, and the lady that waxed my eyebrows (I don't know her name) was like, picking vegetables or something. What...? Talk about unsanitary. This review has been a long-time coming, but I wanted to wait until my toe was fully recovered to provide facts. This place sucks! Decided to walk in here with my daughter bc the passport place across the way had a long line. The first sign I should have heeded about their carelessness and thoughtlessness was when I saw a lady washing the pedicure sink and totally sprayed water all over the place, and soaked another lady, who got really upset. But she barely apologized for it and hardly wiped the chair before asking me to sit in it. I had to grab a towel myself to wipe it better so I wouldn't sit in a pool. Then I get my pedicure with someone named Kim. I specifically tell her I don't want my nail cut short or too close, and she ends up clipping my skin. I tell her that it hurts and she says back, "it hurts? Oh no it doesn't. It's ok". Really? She wants to tell me that I'm just imagining it! Then she does another toe and I tell her that whatever she's doing is hurting, but she keeps doing the same thing and I tell her again that it hurts but she just ignores me. I finally sternly tell her to just stop and move on. One hour after leaving and my toe was still stinging! Fast-forward to 1 month later, my toe was still hurting from that experience and after some antibiotic cream to settle the obvious infection I got. It took almost 5 months before my toe felt 85%, and another couple months before I could even bring myself to go into another nail salon. My daughter's story in her own words is as follows: "She messed up my nail color request after I specifically told her which accent color goes where, and I even pointed to my toe while specifying the colors. But the lady did completely opposite of what I said. Didn't even put a base coat on. After I tell her it's wrong, she tells me that I'm the one who told her wrong and proceeded to talk to her friend in vietnamese exasperated, as if it was my fault. (Mom here concurs that I personally heard my daughter communicate the request clearly). But this lady obviously was confused and didn't ask for clarification. She finally proceeded to paint the correct color on without taking the wrong color off. And she painted all over my cuticles without cleaning it up." WORST NAIL SALON EXPERIENCE EVER!!! read more

This review is for eyebrows only. NATALIE IS THEE BEST. She is very good at shaping my eyebrows. My eyebrows are naturally thin and light and she makes them look AWESOME. Nancy is good when you have thicker eyebrows, but they don't need much shaping. I had her do my brows 3 times and all three times I didn't like it very much. They turned out way too thin and I had to draw them in. However, my BFF Loves Nancy. I got a mani pedi here one time and that's all it took for me not to go back. This review is on nails only. I've come here a few times to get my nails done and I've never been too disappointed, they get the job done. The only thing wrong would be the weird atmosphere and unfriendly ladies doing your nails. I usually get a full set w/ acrylic and gel. The acrylics usually last about 2 and a half to 3 weeks which isn't so bad. The last time I came however, will probably be my last time. I walked in on a Wednesday morning since a couple of my acrylic nails fell off, and I just wanted to get the rest removed so I could have a regular gel manicure. The lady looked super confused when I told her what I wanted but I just went along with it. When she sat me down, she just started clipping my acrylic nails and trying to get them off with her own fingers.......like ummm I could've done that myself??? It was really unprofessional seeing that they clearly have no tools on how to remove acrylic nails or any knowledge regarding that. Even I know that you're supposed to soak acrylic nails in acetone to loosen them then use those special nail tools to remove them. The lady kept looking at me nervously as she was trying to remove them; not to mention I probably had tears running down my face since it hurt so bad. She then had the AUDACITY to say "This is going to be $15". UHHH NO I am not paying $15 JUST for an acrylic removal which you don't even know how to do properly. The other places I've been to only charge $5 at MOST. I don't remember it ever being this hard to take off some fake nails that YOU put on. It was so awkward just sitting there watching this woman trying to do something she clearly doesn't know how to do. I had to politely get up and say sorry I'm going somewhere else. :-( After that I went to Tammy's nail spa off Capitol expressway and had a way better experience with WAY better prices. Fantasy nails is a little bit on the pricy side and it's not really worth it since there's so many other nice places to get your nails done. She swore NANCY (this sweet lady in her 50s) was the best at shaping and waxing. The wait was somewhat long because tons of girls were getting their brows waxed that day. When it was my turn, I went into this room with glass panels. There are 2 beds and Nancy waxed my brows. Nothing special but the shape was nice and she even fills them in with a bit of shadow for you. Good cheap prices. I felt like i wasted 10 bucks having my eyebrows done here because i felt like she didn't clean my eyebrows as much. I had to pluck and clean it myself afterwards realizing that most of my hair was still there. I've been coming here for years to get my eyebrows done. For as long as I can remember, every girl used to get her eyebrows done here. Sometimes it's Natalie, sometimes it's Nancy. I for one never had anyone else do my eyebrows except for Nancy. I will say that this place is as ghetto as ghetto can be. I would never get my nails done here. An eyebrow wax is $10. If you're very particular about how you want your eyebrows done, make sure you tell them, otherwise it's your fault! There used to always be a long wait and often times would never take your appointment. You're best bet is to call and ask for Nancy or Natalie. Then, once you get them on the phone ask them how busy it is and that you're on your way in. I always check to see if Nancy is in, otherwise I hate wasting my time coming out of my way to go there since it's quite a ways from home. Business has been slow lately at Fantasy Nails for the eyebrow ladies, so most likely they're not busy, but I would still call just in case. Basically, the difficult part is coming here for the first time. It's a pain because if they don't know you, they don't know what you usually like. And they might come off as rude, which I've just gotten used to over time and now they just always smile and wave hello to me. They also have lots of regulars, so they might take others before you and say they have an appointment. Shady I know, but it's ghetto East Side... Never coming here again. For any service! I needed a gel fill, and I needed the glitter tips color swapped out since mine had grown out so much. There was only one other person having a service done and I looked at her nails, which were white french manicure, and they looked awesome... so I figured this would be a good place to come since I live so close to Oakridge. I will quickly highlight the reasons why I am not coming back: - The nail "technician" did not remove enough of the old gel and acrylic, so when she piled on the new acrylic and glitter, my nails were so thick that it was embarassing. She didn't "scoop" out the old glitter, she just put new glitter on top, which created a huge bump in my nails. - She did not clean out the back of my nail. Normally I like it when they seal that area back up. - She didn't shape the tips as she was putting the glitter on. She basically eye-balled it and wasn't precise. There were areas of my nails were there was no gel at all ( I noticed when I got home) and within a week's time, the nails were lifting and turning yellow. The technician I had was very sloppy, I probably should have waited for the other girl to finish since her nails looked great.. BUT after I gave the technician her tip... and I usually tip over 20% no matter where I go.. she was VERY unappreciative and didn't really thank me. I had won the lottery that day (not millions, but I had enough money to splurge that day) and I was being generous, even though she sucked... and she didn't even seem happy with it. Whatever.. I have nothing to complain about other than the ladies that kept asking me to get fake nails instead for another 10, or get a set of gel nails for another 15. I just wanted a regular manicure guys =( But then again, this place isn't half bad. It's located conveniently at Eastridge mall, so after some rigorous shopping, you can get your nails done, get a haircut, or get your eyebrows waxed here. It's close to the parking lot, too so park by Red Robin or Todai if you choose this place to be your last spot to visit at the mall. I have been going here on & off since I was 13 and I'm 23 today. The only person I would recommend for mani/pedi is Lee and Natalie is the best at eyebrows. Lee is absolutely amazing! She really takes her time with each customer and does an amazing job every time. I think everyone that's a regular sees her only because she is super busy and booked all the time, hence the low rating. Natalie is great too. I recently stopped seeing her because I found a new spot much closer to me. She does a real good job but i don't like how one time, i gave her my money and she asked me how much i wanted back. Like wth??? I went in here on Saturday, and it was my first time trying this nail/hair salon. I went in to get my nails done and Kim the lady who did my nails really focused on keeping my nails from chipping. She made them super nice!! My nails had glitter and the glitter was really precise it does not fall out I love the way she did that! My brother got a haircut here really good!
