Oh my gosh, Kathy saved my nails! I was out of town and had a full set. They were awful. Uneven, polish was a mess and you could see how/where the acrylic was uneven. Then I had my first fill at another shop and they didn't fix but just made them thicker. Kathy fixed them! They looked beautiful and they were thin, smooth and the gel polish was perfect! I've been goin there ever since. Kathy is answer woman and she takes care of her clients. Her mom does pedicures and I love when she does mine. Kathy does the best manicures and pedicures I've had. She's meticulous, but works efficiently, so no unnecessary waiting time. She's been giving me beautiful gel nails for several months now, and doesn't do the acetone soak when she refreshes them, leaving my nails strong and my fingers healthy. I have been meaning to write this review since October, and now, after multiple return visits, I can tell you, Fancy Nails is THE BEST! I have always had nail problems. Or rather, I have always been my nails' problem. I've picked at them whenever there was even a hint of a rough edge. Which was always. Couldn't stop myself. So, I've always had very short nails. But then along came Fancy Nails!! Kathy and Lisa are amazing. They are magicians. For the first time in my almost 60 years of life, I have beautiful fingernails. It's unbelievable! Kathy sprinkles pixie dust, I'm telling you. She put gel on my nails and they grew and grew and grew. For the first time in my life, my nails actually grew so long that I decided to ask her to cut them a bit shorter so that I can still text without too much difficulty. I've tried many different nail salons during the years I've lived on the Peninsula--Los Altos, Palo Alto, Redwood City, Menlo Park, San Carlos, and San Mateo. Some are better than others, but at best, the gel would last 2-3 days before I'd picked most of it off. I was in Half Moon Bay this fall and wanted a facial, so I scheduled one and a gel pedicure at Fancy Nails. The facial was great (I'll write a review about that later), so I asked whether Kathy could also do a gel manicure while Lisa did my gel pedicure. I hadn't had gel on my nails in about 6 years. Oh. My. Word. That's how it happened. Kathy is brilliant. Her method makes them beautiful and makes them last and last. I can go a full 3 weeks with them! Unheard of, for me. Last but by no means the least: I've had painful pedis in the past, but Lisa's the best! She was very careful and gentle, and I left Fancy Nails that first time feeling so relieved and grateful. Thanks to her skill, too, they look gorgeous each time I go back, and I'm still proud to show my toes for weeks after each pedi. I never want to go anywhere else, now that I've met Kathy and Lisa. While on a romantic getaway, I broke my nail. I called up fancy nails and they were available to see me within the hour. They were also available to give my husband a pedicure as I got my nails fixed. The ladies were so wonderful, so sweet, and so helpful. Came here last minute before a wedding. My mom and I both got mani pedi gel manicures. My mom started way before me and finished way after me. My service was quick and lacking quality. No cleaning under my finger or toe nails. No scrubbing. She wasn't even going to massage until I realized she was not giving me all the service my mom was getting from her nail tech. I only got a 1 minute leg massage after I mentioned it ( she basically just rubbed the lotion there was no actual massage). No hand massage. It was very rushed. Didn't use any cuticle oil just soaked my nails for a few minutes. The total for the service was $85 which is very high for that kind of low quality service. I handed her a $100 bill and she assumed my change of $15 was her tip. Left very disappointed and annoyed. They are nice ladies though. read more

Fancy Nail is a tiny shop, but not a bad place for a pedicure. They only have two spa pedi chairs and about three tables for working on hands. The shop is clean, and the women working here are nice. Prices are decent. I wouldn't say this is the best spot on the coast for a pedicure (to be fair, maybe there just ISN'T one here that's very good), but it's good enough. I've been going to Fancy Nail for years. Kathy and her Mom just recently took over for Ann, who is missed. But tonite I had a "Pampered Pedicure" all I can say is WOW!!! It was AWESOME. Organic Tangerine salt scrub on my calves then a minty mud mask with a hot towel wrap. A foot massage then a hot wax treatment on my feet with a calf massage. Then a precise nail polish application. I've been going here for a while now and I'm not usually one for writing reviews but I feel that I have to write one for this place. I am just amazed at their attention to detail. Recently I had decided to take off my fake nails and I was expecting to have them ripped off(that's what happened at other places I've been to). They took the time and soaked them off. It took longer and they had to file some of the acrylic off and then have me soak some more and do that all over again, but it was definitely nicer to my nails and it did not hurt!!! They never leave you waiting while fitting someone else in and go back and forth! Once I saw a tired young mother trying to get her nails done with a baby crying. Kathy sang a Vietnamese lullaby and quieted the baby right down! I read the other reviews and cant believe someone would care if they use peanut packing for between the toes! Reuse recycle. It's true that the mani/pedi is not as good as a spa mani/pedi, but I think they do a good job. I've been there many times over the years, and it's a nice family business. After just a few times visiting, Ann (the owner) knew my name, and she remembers details about things you've told her. They're very quick, clean, and the price is good. If you say you're in a hurry, they'll get your mani and pedi done simultaneously. Frequently I mess up the polish while it's drying, and they come to the rescue every time and fix it immediately. I believe the sign says "please pay tips separately", but I don't remember it being cash only. Maybe it's implied. But I can see how they would like it separate. Frequently, one girl will do your toes, and another one you hands, so it makes sense that they might like to be tipped individually and not pool their tips (I mean seriously...if I had to deal with people's ugly feet instead of their hands, I would expect a bigger tip!) Anyway, I wouldn't call it "shady". I wish they would spend more time treating the rough spots on my feet, but maybe since I have to grit my teeth to not jerk my feet from the tickle response, they take it easy on me :) Anyway, I just happened upon these reviews because I was searching to find their hours so I can pop in and get a quick mani/pedi. I have been coming there for 2 years when Ann use to work there, always got great treatment, very attentive work. They use to soak my hands in warm water, get a nice hand massage and when all finished a warm/hot towel with oils. Loved it! The gel lasted. I came here once after Ann was gone 2 weeks ago. It's was busy and service was bit different.. No massage but it was still good. Left happy. I came back again, no one here and I didnt even get a change to pick a color before the women working wanted to soak my hands on cold water for maybe 30 seconds before working on them and it was painful! I got gel done and it took maybe 10 minutes. Didn't even take time to shape my nails all the same. Worst experience I have EVER got at any nail salon.
