We went at 8pm on a Thursday night and it was relatively quiet. Service was quick and friendly. Onion rings were the star of my meal. 3 gigantic rings was the perfect side. Very poor service. We ordered an appetizer and once it arrived we were ignored, despite it not being overly busy and at least 5 servers working and serving others. Waited well over 20 minutes, finished our app, and no one acknowledged us, offered to help us, or anything. I love this restaurant's lunch specials. Yummy big burgers with fries or onion rings on Thursday's. I also love to pick up a big container of their homemade speghetti sauce to use at home with our pasta. Falsetta's Casa Nova is an iconic institution here in Lansing. It has been here forever and while it is not much to look at, the food is definitely good and probably even made all the better because of the memories associated with this restaurant. Prices are extremely good, especially with the amount of food that you are given. This is the kind of place that has created incredible memories with generation after generation of families and I hope that this iconic restaurant will be for generations to come. Falsetta's gets 5* in my book for accommodating a group of 30+ for a post funeral family meal. Our waitress was FABULOUS. She was all over our table brining out drinks, onion rings and individual entrees. Honestly I've served before and I'm not sure I would have been able to keep up so kudos to her!! I only have to dock one star because the food was pretty 50/50. The onion rings were elite, drinks got good reviews but the entrees fell a little flat. There was a TON of food, generous portions, but not super flavorful and a bit too greasy. I enjoyed the French onion soup, 10/10 yum yum yum. I also snagged a side salad but it was really wet with too much dressing I would LOVE to come back and chill at the bar because that seems like the prime spot. Chandeliers were adorable. I was excited to finally get a chance to try Falsetta's and unfortunately, I wasn't blown away. I ordered carry out and tried the combination platter #1 so I could try out a couple different menu items. I thought the chicken Parmesan and manicotti were both just ok. The chicken was a bit soggy, likely because it was swimming in sauce, and the manicotti had way too much melted mozzarella on top. The spaghetti with meat sauce and the fettuccini Alfredo were both bland and sub-par flavor wise, but the portions were both fair. The meal came with a side salad, and it would have been nice to get a slice of garlic bread or a dinner roll to dip in all of the extra pasta/meat sauce. I probably won't be back again any time soon. read more

Food is great! Waitress was great! This is an Italian restaurant. Don't get the liver and onions. That's common sense. My table loved the onion rings! The fettuccine Alfredo and "Side by side"looked and tasted great! The side by side is a spaghetti and meatballs next to meat ravioli smothered in meat sauce. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars was the offensive language that came from the bar. I'm ok with a damn or ass but the f word was said a few times a minute. This place has been around since the 50s, you can actually view the original menu which is pretty interesting. The current menu is big and borderline overwhelming, too many choices! Overall everything we ordered was pretty good. I really liked my French onion soup, it was tasty and hot and perfect for the cold weather. I also ordered the baked spaghetti which was a HUGE portion, to-go box was needed. Everyone else I was with ordered a burger, they all enjoyed them. For the very low prices, the portions are massive. We will definitely come back, hopefully our experience is as good as the first since so many people wrote negative reviews. read more

It was sad to eat at this restaurant. It was probably a good Italian restaurant once upon a time. Had la carne lasagna and chicken, bacon, rigatoni with Alfredo. Our food had too much salt. The salad had few to many pieces of brown lettuce in it. The Italian dressing came out of a bottle. Not made in house. The blue cheese dressing was house made and good. The waitress warned me about the garlic bread. I should have listened. It was sliced white bread that came from a grocery store. It was cold toasted and crunchy but couldn't taste the garlic. They could have made their own bread or from pizza dough or bought a baguette at any store and made it. They should go to a good family run Italian restaurant and see how it is done. My girlfriend and I went here tonight & had very horrible service. It was "seat yourself" & it took a few minutes to get the menus, no big deal though. When we finally got our drinks, I noticed a fly in my beer. The worst part about it was that the waitress was walking away right after she put our drinks down. We were done reading our menus and totally ready to order. I had to say something and she brought back a good drink and took our order. My girlfriend was very clear on her order but unfortunately they screwed that up too when it was brought out. My pizza was very good, don't get me wrong, the food was great and we will be back, but maybe doing take out. The waitress never refilled my girlfriends coke once. Every time we received our food, we had to ask whoever came to our table it for.....a salad that we never got or a side of ranch that we had already asked for. Falsetta's on Waverly and Casa Nova downtown used to be spectacular. Now, it's more mediocre. The homemade recipes which made the place great are gone. The food tastes as though it's been prepared ahead of time and warmed up. Some of the dishes were still tasty, but the depth of flavor was lacking. I miss how it used to taste. As for the atmosphere, that's still pretty good. The staff are nice though it doesn't feel as family-like as it used to. Taking out food of course spoils the meal as it isn't as piping hot and fresh. My girlfriends and I met there for dinner this week -- I have never been. I liked the food -- good size portions for the price. Some little things could have been tweaked to make my particular meal more visually pleasing (i.e., grape tomatoes instead of tomato slices in my dish?) but the flavor was there! I am a foodie and realize I am very critical but still really enjoyed the evening. And - considering the current situation with covid, they did a damn good job. The place is definitely old school with their decor, but that's ok. I don't need a snazzy design if the food is good. The best part, however, was our AWESOME waitress Nancy. I ordered a M/R burger. When she brought out the burgers I cut mine in half. As I picked it up, I realized that it was COLD in the center. The hamburger was completely raw. I asked her to ask to finish cooking it to M/R. She was gone approximately 2 1/2 minutes, and the burger was still raw.i just asked for a to go box. read more

Much improved. I recently had lunch there. It has been fifteen years since my last visit. Much of the negative reviews must have been before the improvements. I had the lasagna for lunch. The sauce was great, the ingredients were fresh tasting, the portion was generous and the price was reasonable. Each of the friends who joined me also loved their meals. One of them had the pizza buffet which only had four choices, but they didn't run-out of anything. Oh, and the interior looked upgraded and repainted. If you haven't been there in a while, you will probably be impressed now too. read more

I really don't understand why Falsetta's is rated as 2 and a half stars... My wife and I tried it for the first time today and it was absolutely fantastic! It was super clean inside, our waitress was great, and the food was delicious! We started with a half order of onion rings. There is 4 in a half order but they are humongous. They are in a tempura batter and came out piping hot and crunchy! Although they have an extensive menu that includes soup, salads, sandwiches, and entrees, we had heard that pizza and pasta were the specialties of the house so we decided to try those. We split the combination plate #2 which consists of spinach manicotti, lasagna, and spaghetti and meatball. It was all good but the highlight was easily the manicotti! My wife and I both had a where have you been all my life moment! You can order party trays for holidays and celebrations and we're now planning on having one as our Christmas dinner! As for the pizza, it turns out Mr Falsetta introduced pizza to Lansing back in 1951 so it truly is the original pizza pie as the menu states. It was really good, packed with toppings, cheese, and sauce with a crispy, crunchy crust sturdy enough to hold up to all the good stuff on top. Bottom line is that this is a super old school Lansing institution that has been serving this community well for nearly 70 years! You can't be open that long if you're not doing a lot of things right! If you're looking for a good meal in a comfortable environment do yourself a favor and give Falsetta's Casa Nova a try! I have to say I avoided this place due to the Yelp comments. I stopped in recently out of necessity/convenience. Wow, I'm really shocked in the low yelp ratings. I guess it's all perspective. I have a couple of categories for eating out. #1- a place where you go for special occasions/have to get dressed up and #2 - a place that serves great food, is a clean/comfortable environment, and I can go in jeans and a hoodie. Personally I don't have that many special occasions and my going out preference is #2. The first time I went here it was so packed, we sat at a table in the bar. This worked out because we were right by the kitchen and watched plate after plate of awesome looking food coming out of the kitchen. They have a Friday night prime rib special, which looked really good. This place is definitely family friendly, with a good mix of age groups. The bar is a separate area and it seems to be busy all of the time. Sure the decor is a little outdated, but its clean. The food is excellent. Try the Fries. I think they are beer battered or something, whatever it is its awesome. Sandwiches are good and the Italian specialties are really tasty. As far as my judgement of Italian food- I haven't traveled the countryside of Italy, but I don't say EYE-talian either. I'd say this stuff is good. Pastas, pizzas, meatballs etc. You get a lot of food and the meals come with sides. The only minor dislike is the bread basket they bring out. I do like the packaged breadsticks (dipped in butter of course), but there's some kind of weird plain toasted bread in the basket that just seems like its ready to be ground into bread crumbs. Everyone working was extremely friendly. I will be adding this spot to my #2 rotation if ya know what I mean. I think it's time to give this place another shot. read more

Today was the second time I have been here, both times for lunch. A friend from work needed to do something nearby so we thought we would give it a chance. I don't think I will be back here again. Neither the food nor the service is really up to par. I ordered the $7.99 special of Chicken parmesean, comes with spaghetti and a side (salad). It certainly was not fresh and pan fried as advertised. I have a feeling it was cooked some time ago and reheated. The portion was big, two breasts, but they were not even pounded thin like should be done with chicken cutlets so they cook evenly. Beyond that, the sauce is no better than average, large chunks of tomatos, seemed like a can of crushed tomatos with a little spices. My plate was practically covered in it after I had finished the spaghetti, which was cooked decently well. I did not finish the chicken. The salad was wet iceberg lettuce, some croutons and a wedge of tomato. Very very runny ranch dressing. Bleh. I am super curious about the positive reviews because it is hard to believe that the folks that served the food we got today could put together something beyond three stars. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch after getting off the road, about 2pm. I'd eaten here before and it was good. The waitress, Nancy, "seated" us, meaning she took two menus and tossed them on the tables as she walked past, leaving us to wonder if that was our table. We sat, and she brought water, which we normally have at any meal. Nancy brought our waters and a basket of bread. My glass (plastic) was cracked and leaking. I sampled a piece of the bread, which is sliced bread, and rock hard. It took effort even to break a piece. I brought the cracked glass to Nancy's attention, she apologized and brought me another cup. We ordered the daily special, hot open-faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. When I tasted my plate, it was cold. Barely above room temperature. Both plates were. Instead of potatoes, my girlfriend got Mac and cheese, which came out after we'd been served our entrees. It honestly looked like they'd used Alfredo with elbow macaroni. Not very appetizing in appearance, but it was warmer than anything else on the table. When Nancy came back, I told her about the unsatisfactory food temp, and she said if I'd have mentioned it earlier, they'd have fixed it, but she'd talk to the manager. I also showed her the "bread" and how hard it was. She said it was a tradition, and people would get upset if she didn't bring it out. Now, as I stated earlier, I'd eaten here before, and the bread was nowhere near the cement like consistency that time. When Nancy went to speak to the manager, who was behind the bar, we heard "I do t think so" and take a dollar off. I asked Nancy about this comment, and she said the manager was working on a computer problem, and that wasn't meant towards us. I appreciate her loyalty, but not a blatant lie. It would have been nice to speak to the manager, but at that point, her lack of interest in customer satisfaction was evident and I did not want to waste my time trying to enlighten her. If we both hadn't been absolutely starving, I wouldn't have eaten as much as I did, which was maybe half. Same for my girlfriend. She also felt sick to her stomach afterwards. We paid our bill and left. Will not go back. Ever. read more

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews! The food is delicious and the portions are huge for a good price. There is a lot of variety on the menu too! The service can be a little slow on occasion. On our most recent trip, it wasn't busy and the service was slower than you'd hope for but still attentive... If that makes any sense. Our drinks were kept full, etc but it did take awhile to get our meals. The decor is somewhat... 70's-ish but not gaudy or anything. It is clean which, to me, is what matters most. read more
