Stopped into Falling Knife after a nearby family gathering! Small parking lot available onsite, but I've never had an issue parking! The space itself has large booths and a sizeable bar, which makes it great to gather with small to medium groups. The decor includes some locally inspired art, but doesn't do enough to make this a destination "vibes" brewery. Service was great during our visit! Beer menu is creative enough, yet contains all the classics that you'd expect from a Twin Cities brewery. The farmhouse ale and German pilsner were both refreshing and light options! Out of all the breweries in northeast. Falling knife is one of my Favorites especially during the colder months because they usually have a few options for imperial stouts. This time we went they only had one on tap. Which was a little disappointing. So I got their thc beverage grape vape instead. It's delicious but $10 for one seems a ittle expensive, considering you can buy a 4 pack of them at Total Wine for $20. When we got there we grabbed a table and the waitress came and greeted us right away. She was great. We ordered some Cheese bread from Wrecktangle Pizza. Which is always amazing. (They have a food truck there). They seem to be pretty consistent on having Timberwolves games on if you're looking for somewhere to watch the game. They do also have some parking on the side of the building. We usually don't have a hard time finding somewhere to park. They do also have some pin ball machines towards the back and a free juke box (but that doesn't play during the games). All in all, falling knife is a cute brewery that I'd recommend. They beers usually good. The vibes are good. And now it seems Wrecktangle has at least a semi permanent spot there. read more

Brought the baby here for happy hour because my New England blood had me jonesing for hazy IPAs and really love their Verbal Tip after trying it at a few restaurants around town. We sat on their patio because it was an unseasonably nice day. I tried another IPA first (can't remember what it was!) and it wasn't as good so on round two I went for the Verbal Tip-- so tasty! I found the actual setting of the taproom and patio to be a bit rundown, but the beer is good and they have a Wrecktangle food truck!! For the quality of offerings alone, I will be back. I was sorry to read about the unexpected passing of their owner a few weeks ago, so will be watching to see if there is a succession plan for this brewery. Hoping for the best! read more

Falling Knife is tied for my favorite brewery in the area! The taproom is pretty small but the community and staff are all amazingly friendly and helpful. It's the premier Wolves bar in the area, hosts tons of nerdy events like Magic the Gathering drafts, and their parties aren't to be missed. There's a jukebox full of fantastic tunes and some pinball machines in the back, as well. Being such a small operation lets them rotate the tap list really regularly and experiment with cool styles and mashups. They're always putting out my next favorite barleywine or stout and consistently win awards for their IPAs; hazys in particular. Don't hesitate to try Fun Mom Jeans, Old Painless, or any pilsners. The taproom doesn't allow dogs but they have a small patio and constantly set up their side parking lot for events. If you get the chance to go to an event or just want some good beer, music, and vibes you should stop in. read more

We stopped in for the Initials Game and had a blast. I can't give 5 stars mainly because I just got a root beer and the food truck was closed because of the cold so I didn't get the full experience but it was still fun. It was my first time at this brewery but it's a neat space in an unexpected location. We will definitely be back for more events and hopefully the food truck is open because I love Wrecktangle! read more

If you like your beer fruity and/or high in alcohol, or like seltzers, this might be your brewery. For me, I have tried it and don't need to stop again. I was super excited to see they had a scotch ale on tap. It is my one of my absolute favorite styles. My first clue should have been the high alcohol content - 11%. Some brewers can pull off a high alcohol version, but sadly this one was not good. It tasted like an alcoholic syrup. Next up, another favorite style - Saison. This was good. I would have preferred a lower alcohol level, which I have seen done well in a saison, but it was still good. Choosing the next beer was many difficult- lots of sour, but all fruit based. Love sours that are sour because of the brewing process, but most fruit sours a disaster. Maybe theirs was good but I skipped it to try their New England IPA. Could not finish it. I wish I could describe why- I think I wanted a more hints of hops. Either way, not my thing. You may like this brewery but know what you are getting into. It was not my thing. read more

I went to Falling Knife for the first time this month! On first impressions, the taproom was cute and cozy. The bar was full up, but there were plenty of tables available. While my friends and I were waiting to order, the bartender let us know that they actually do table service, so that was a nice surprise. I tried the Cherry Berry Cyclone first; it was fruity as expected & caramely on the back end, without being overly sweet. Next, I tried the Earl Gray Arnold Palmer seltzer cocktail (say that 5 times fast), which can apparently be made non-alcoholic as well. The cocktail was light, refreshing, & had a nice earl gray flavor without getting syrupy. The bubbles seemed to dissipate pretty quickly, but the flavor made up for the slight lack in carbonation for sure. A fun bonus was the free jukebox! My friends were trying to add songs from their paid app but it turned out the music was free; that seems silly, but it's definitely not a given at other bars. Continuing to explore the craft brewery scene of Minneapolis! Falling Knife I've heard all the way on the West Coast but it isn't necessarily a household name in a household that loves it's craft beer. I was fortunate to score a beer from this brewery though! The one beer Steve and I had was the Verbal Point IPA. Once again journeying down the New England style path as well. Not a bad beer, it has all of the citrus or juicy notes it should have but when it comes to it being a memorable beer experience... something I am always on the lookout for it didn't quite deliver. I ordered a flight of the three stout pastry beers, because stouts are so so tasty - the Fun Mom Shoulders, the Ghost Step, and the Lil Shaky. And you can order as many or as little as you want! I like sweet but not too sweet (sorry Fun Mom), so the Ghost Step will likely be my go-to on my next visit! But in all seriousness, their hazy ipas are hazy, soft, and juicy (try the L Bombs) and their stouts are robust, full of flavor, and the booze is sneaky *wink wink* (try the fun mom shoulders). The taproom is small but cozy and the vibe is killer. For you non beer drinkers (which is totally ok!) they make solid seltzers as well and if you catch them as a frozen slushie, that's the real vibe. I wasn't able to make it for Open Season at @fallingknifebc, but made it out for some of the leftovers from the event. I had a handful of small pours in order to try a swath of beers that were special releases and regulars. As always, the beers were flavorful and mouthwatering. And there are arcade games if you are looking for some good old fashioned, nostalgic fun! Permanent for Now A DDH Hazy Double IPA with Talus, Cryo Pop, and HBC 630 Hops. Melon rind and pine on the nose with a juicy dankness flavor. Huge grapefruit, resin, and cantaloupe characters. Collab with @madewestbeer MadeWest Brewing Company and Yakima Chief Hops. Smores Lil Shaky Lil Shakey is a delicious Cafe Con Miel Style Stout with Coffee Espresso, Cinnamon, and Vanilla. Falling Knife took that a step farther by adding S'mores to the mix. Dessert in a glass (taster glass in my case). Mocha notes overtake the nose with cinnamon and vanilla balancing out the coffee on the palate. You can taste every aspect of this beer - impressive. Dark Match A Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with Hazelnut, Coconut, and Vanilla. Good bitterness in this imperial stout that does not get overwhelmed with sweetness from the vanilla. Very mild nuttiness. Tastes almost like a samoa cookie soaked in rye. Fun Mom Shoulders: What can I say about a beer that is a Maple Praline Coffee Cake Stout with Coffee & Vanilla. Sweet and tantalizing in the best possible way. Strange to have in the same flight as the IPA, but I had to make due. Another beer that you could have for dessert, or for any other time for that matter. Would taste great with Smores around the campfire. read more

Scam! We were charged $5 per person for a wristband in order to order beer with an event starting in 4 hours from when we arrived that we hadn't planned to see. Without it being known or expressed ahead of time, we wondered why the beer was so expensive because the $5 charge was disguised into the overall bill. Late Thursday afternoon, biked over to this taproom in the northeast part of town. Bright interior with table/bar seating, as well as arcade games and a food truck outside. Had two beers while here: "Verbal Tip" and "DDH Double Hidden Temple" (both $8). The tip is a hazy IPA, multiple hops but smooth overall. The DDH is obviously stronger - more juicy hops and a soft finish. To eat, they had a truck outside serving Thai food that was decent but pricey. Service here was great as the guy behind the counter was informative on the beers. Not very busy on the weekdays, so best to go during that time. read more

As a craft beer lover I just had to visit Falling Knife on the grand opening and they did not disappoint. Located in NE Minneapolis in the former Northgate Brewing space this taproom is somewhat off the beaten path of NE Minneapolis but worth the venture. I was not a huge fan of Northgate and wasn't sure what to expect with the new ownership. As I walked in I was down right speechless. What once was a drab, dingy, and ugly space now has a bright, modern, clean space. From the contrast of black and gray in the floors and tables to the over sized light fixtures over each table this space is cool and comfortable. Along with an easy space to kick back comes some a huge tap list with everything from a Pale Ale to multiple IPAs to a Stout to a Belgian to a kettle sour they have a beer for everybody. One thing I thought was cool was their single hop IPA, double hop IPA and then triple hop IPA which made fun a fun flight/sampling. I'm not going to recommend any one beer as I truly enjoyed ALL of them. I would like to express one concern. I found the prices to be a little on the high side. As a matter of fact this may be the highest priced taproom in the area. I do believe the beers are delicious but it will be tough to keep up with the competition when Insight and Headflyer are within a stones throw and have established names with delicious beers at a lower price. read more

My first visit to Falling Knife was a good one! Parking was free and easy in the lot out front. I immediately liked the chill vibe of the taproom, fairly quiet but with good music playing. We've enjoyed Falling Knife beers in restaurants so when we realized we were close to the brewery we decided to stop in. We were a bit disappointed when we arrived to a non-descript industrial park building with barely a patio in the parking area. The interior was comfortable, again nothing fancy. But enough about ambiance...the beer was as good as we were hoping for. My wife prefers lagers and Falling Knife has an award winning one, Tomm's Lager. I'm a hazy IPA person and they had a few on tap. The beer tender was quick to give samples which was great service because you need to ask at most places and then get a look. Another great thing is that they have a Wrecktangle pizza food truck there all week. If you are in NE MPLS I recommend stopping in for a good beer. read more

If you are looking for a laid back spot with phenomenal beer look no further. I am not the biggest beer fan, but this place hits the spot. During COVID times they have a made a makeshift patio agree with others the scenery leaves less to be desired, but at this time we cannot be picky. What matters is the beer is amazing, The IPA's so juicy. Every person I have recommend Hidden Temple to have all raved about it. They just came out with the Raspberry Cyclone which is not as tart as most sours are but impressed how smooth it was and great amount of flavor. Staff are extremely friendly ( shoutout to Dani who was my server yesterday). Prices are a little more expensive than other breweries but the beer is impressive and worth every penny. We came here opening weekend a while back and it was packed! So glad to see they're still alive and thriving. The logo is a little dark but the vibe is really comfortable. A clean interior with the attention on heavy metal-themed beers, there's something for everyone at Falling Knife. Falling Knife is one of THE breweries to check out if you're an IPA fan. Of the 11 on tap, 5 are various IPA's. We both love stouts so we got the Ghost Step Bali Natural Coffee Stout and it was AMAZING. When it comes to COVID safety measures, they're taking it very seriously. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and actually take your temperature before you sit down. All tables are equipped with hand sanitizer and a paperless menu you can access on your phone. The dog-friendly patio has good space with cool nighttime lighting and they usually have a good truck around for all your snacking needs. All they ask to help keep others safe is that you put on your mask when your server comes around and that you limit walking around - totally fair requests. They have some great merch too if you want to bring the Falling Knife love home with you, which I suggest you do. read more

Quality brew dogs I'll pay more if shit is good I'd say they're worth it One of the newer breweries in the Twin Cities scene. I've been really impressed with their beer so far. Only been to the brewery once, but have had it both at local bars and at home from the liquor store. They make some real solid IPA's in my book. Four stars and above from me for the most part on Untappd. Their location is not great. Not dicey. Just one of those breweries that is in an industrial off the beaten path location for the cheap rent. The last brewery in this location couldn't make it. I'd say Falling Knife is putting out much better product than its predecessor for a slightly higher price. Hoping they can make the margins work in an overly-saturated field of competitors. If the taproom was closer to where I lived or worked, I would go in much more often. read more

My wife and I were on our weekend jaunt throughout the cities to see new tap rooms. She makes these amazing cheese and meat trays to bring for the nosh side of things. Our bartender was super cool and they have a Pokemon gym right on the premises. They have a bunch of IPAs on tap and I tried two. Fantastic! Made it there on opening night and was already expecting crowds at this former NorthGate Brewing location. Parking lot was full and the streets were lined with cars. Inside there were two long set of lines on either side of the bar. Half hour of waiting and I was within 10 ft of the bar. "I don't know if I like this beer. Can I try another one?" said a customer at a patient beertender as she sampled a few different beers. Found out that they also had staff serving tables directly and the moment a table cleared, we made the jump. The beer list was impressive - 10 beers on Day 1! Terminally Chill fruity west coast IPA, Ghost Step Sumatra cold press coffee stout, Freishütz hoppy German Pilsner, Verbal Tip hazy IPA, DDH Cloud Surfing hazy DIPA, the Joy Fermentable hazy IPA, Atlantean Belgian golden, Evil Pockets helles lager, Cumulonimbus kettle sour, and Daydreaming hazy IPA. A lot of expensive hops and the prices reflect it. As a biased lover of stouts and porters, I found the Ghost Step Sumatra as exceptional. When we finally left, we discovered something. Quietness and sore throats from screaming at one another for two hours. Did not realize how loud it was inside. Our group left thoroughly impressed with how Falling Knife handled the crowds on opening day and the selection of beers offered to the crowds. read more

I've seen a lot of people checking out this new brewery. It's within walking distance of my work so, I feel like I will be definetly making many more stops. I was so surprised when I walked in. My mind remembered the old North Gate set up, and was so surprised to see a bright and modern look. The side room was a bit darker with a bunch of fun pin ball games to check out, and a huge window to peak in to see the brewing equipment. Now let's talk beer! My top two were the Verbal Tip a hazy IPA brewed with Citra and Mosaic hops, and Daydreaming which is a pale ale made with only Citra hops. DDH Cloud Surfing was another stand out for me. Oh, Hello double dry hoped double IPA. You were delisious and full of hop goodness! Hehe. -- What a great line up for beers and what a successful grand opening! Its nice to see a grand opening that was really ready! It's worth trying all 10 beers if your down. It was fun to compare, and get to talk about them all with a group. I love the IPA line up! I also think the Ghost Step was nice sweet Stout and I love the use of one of my fav local coffee roasters Up Roasters which is also within walking distance of this brewery! read more

Stopped in on a whim and had one of the best sours ever. I got the Cumulonimbus and it had hints of guava, pineapple and passion fruit. So tasty - need to go back to try the Sumatra stout! Service was excellent. Would definitely recommend stopping in for some great beer. read more

WOW! Right before we went to Falling Knife the other night, my husband was asking me if I thought beer drinkers were maybe not so picky? I asked why do you say that? And he said because for nearly all of the breweries, they are rated like 4 to 5 stars. I laughed and said, "Maybe, most people are just like, YES BEER GOOD?". HOWEVER, I am here to tell you that Falling Knife is EXCEPTIONAL. During the pandemic, we got several deliveries from them that were great. All of the beers we have tried were amazing. But this was our first time actually at the brewery. We sat outside on the patio, and although it's in an industrial area, there were lots of people around and the atmosphere was very much like being on vacation. I got two flights and tried about half the menu. I loved everything I tried, and so did my husband. But the kicker was the BEER SLUSHIES. I was very excited to try them and they did not disappoint! The blue raspberry is made with a hard seltzer, and the cyclone was made with One of their fruited ales. Now whenever it's hot like this, I will be ruined for a regular beer because I would much rather have a beer slushy!! GO, you won't be sorry. read more

A comfy space with music, beer, and seating. What else? Oh there's also maybe food? There was a gentlemen talking about BBQ they were making outside, no clue if they're part of the brewery or not. The beers - great selection. IPAs (at least 4), stout, and a couple others. All tasted great which surprised me. Most breweries have a couple great beers and the rest are "meh". They played it safe with decor, seating is comfortable, it's clean. I'm willing to bet the longer they stick around the more personality the brewery will get. I also think a couple of the employees from North Gate (it was at this same location) work at Falling Knife, and they're great. Excited to go back for some beers. My cousin was in town and he ONLY likes hazy/juicy IPAs. So, Falling Knives was where we ended up because their tap list of hazy IPAs is insane. They have table service and they also have a bar. It's a big space with two rooms. The staff is super nice. We tried a ton of different beers and I can't even begin to tell you, but they were mostly all good. Out of the baby flights we did, we tried like 8 different beers, we all had different favorites (palate differences). They also have a food truck serving food, so that was nice (also with table service). TLDR: They are worth checking out...and ask the staff about the beers, they know a lot. read more
