I've been too Fallbrook Cafe twice...satisfied with both experiences. The first time was on a Sunday for chicken fried steak and eggs. The food was out in a jiffy, the coffee kept flowing and it was all good. The next time was with a party of 8 the day after Christmas. Once again, the food came out in a hurry (red velvet pancakes) and the coffee flowed. Nice diner, good service with a good selection on the menu. A very simple hole in the wall neighborhood restaurant. The service is great and so was the food. Today when we stopped in for breakfast, it was full house. We probably waited for ten minutes and wasn't that bad of a wait. When we sat down, I commented to my husband that the environment reminded me of a restaurant in a cute little town where kids grew up to be dads/moms and grandpas/grandmas. Where everyone knew everyone. Sure enough, a cute elderly man tapped my husband on the shoulder and said could you be our photographer? We gather together and come here for holidays all the time. We are all retired Sheriffs and grew up here. Such a wonderful group. We anyways back to the food. It was so good. I had the Belgium waffle with strawberries, sausage patty and eggs. The hubby had eggs, hash browns and corn beef hash. Had a nice cup of coffee and hot tea to top it off. It was all so yummy! We will definitely be visiting here again. read more

First Impression: Classic diner, which is what I was hoping for. There is a long row of booths and opposite is counter. I was so excited for my diner breakfast. The Food: I ordered a hobo omelette with diced chilies instead of peppers. For the extra cost, I recommend it. But they did something that I LOATHE in any sit down restaurant. They use sliced "kraft" sliced cheese. I asked what cheese came with American cheese, which I don't like. I asked for Jack and I was SO disappointed when it was the kraft style cheap cheese. The rest of the omelette was so good to, it just added to my disappointment. I also got the biscuit and gravy. The gravy was a bit bland and the biscuit didn't taste fresh. My friend got french toast and over easy eggs. Overall, I thought his dish was better. Next time I wouldn't get the cheese and I would choose toast over the biscuit and gravy. The Service: The staff was really nice and friendly. Overall: I would go back, but I beg the owner to please ditch the cheap plastic cheese and the cook to bake fresh biscuits and season the gravy more. read more

Worst meatloaf ever. I always judge a restaurant by its meatloaf. It's easy to make well, but what I was served was garbage; at best! If they can't make an easy to make meal as meatloaf, I can only imagine how bad the rest of their food is... Don't waste your money. read more

Service was really fast (in and out in 20 minutes!), food was hot and tasty. I got the eggs and bacon with hash browns, and the eggs were as specified and hash browns were crispy. If anything, the place isn't as clean as some other restaurants and masks aren't enforced, but pretty good experience overall. read more

Decided to stop by here after a wedding rehearsal. We had a large party that wanted to sit together, but they didn't have a large enough table indoor. The workers and the manager were extremely helpful in putting the tables outdoor together and got the umbrellas up to block the sun. They have a large menu with different breakfast and lunch items. I decided to get the Steak and Egg. The steak was cooked well and a decent size. Everyone all enjoyed their food. The customer service was beyond notable, they were attentive throughout the entire meal. Will definitely be back if we are around the area again! read more

I found my way to this magical little place while staying with my Grandmother at the Fallbrook Hospital. Because I did not eat anything but second-hand fries, this review is for service only. I was with my Grandfather and cousin, who both gave the waitress a run for her money (or tip). The waitress treated us like her only customers and was very quick to refill coffee. My Grandfather had some special needs requests that had me bowing my head partially in laughter and partially in embarrassment. My Grandfather ordered the Fish and Chips. At one point he needed some extra tartar sauce, which normally would be fine if he didn't ask for it across the restaurant. The waitress politely brought some extra for dipping. After that he decided he wanted some cheddar cheese, not realizing it was actually nacho cheese he wanted. After she brought over a bowl of shredded cheddar he chuckled and asked if she could microwave it until it was melted. I found out after leaving, they neglected to give us our free deserts with the meal before slamming down the check for payment. Sad news. While the waitress had a rough go, overall the visit was pleasant and everyone left full. Needless to say my Grandfather gave a 25% tip instead of the usual 10-15%. read more

We stopped by this restaurant this morning, a Saturday. Busy, but not that busy there were some open tables. When we were called over to have a seat, I asked if it was possible for us to sit outside. The hostess said sure grabbed the menus and took us outside. There were two tables open; one right next to the door with only three chairs, there were four of us, and one bigger table in the back corner that also has shade. She instantly sat us at the table with three chairs and grabbed an extra chair. After about three minutes in the sun, my young boys couldn't handle it. we asked to be moved to the table with the shade and she had to get permission. Once we moved to the table with the shade we were brought water, and then heard nothing else from any staff member. After a couple of minutes I started my stopwatch and after we hit 16 minutes with no contact whatsoever, I got my boys and we walked out. I tried to stop by the front counter to explain that nobody had helped us in the 16 minutes we have been sitting outside, but no one acknowledged me. Fallbrook Cafe is a nice quaint cafe in this adorable town. It's not fancy inside, as its aged and not been updated, but that kind of gives it a nice feel. The service is efficient but not very friendly. I had an easy order, a BLT and a salad. The sandwich was good, ample full of tasty ingredients, and the salad was nice. Their dressings are homemade and quite good. If I were in town and looking for down-home cooking, I would certainly return to Fallbrook Cafe. read more

Went here for Father's Day and expected to wait so I didn't have any issue there. They were very busy..we went around 10:30am. We were seated a bit over 30mins later and ordered shortly after. Food was delicious!! I ordered the Popeye omelet and was not let down at all. I was a little weirded out by the sliced cheese on top but everything was soooo delicious. I have been to places where they don't put much of any filling in the omelet and I felt skimped on..but Fallbrook Cafe's was full of filling/toppings and ingredients! I loved it! My husband ordered the NY steak and wasn't disappointed either. Our daughter enjoyed his side of biscuits & gravy. The staff was also great! I loved that they came around to check on us often, which bothered my husband but honestly I would take that over staff who don't ever come check up on me once we are given our food. We will definitely go back. If not dining in, we will come back for take-out. (I love that they have that option) I didn't give it 5 stars because it wasn't very clean. I understand it was busy, but there was food and used utensils under our table. The floors were also sticky. They cleared off & wiped the tables down, then sat the next people in line down. All American no frills retro / original diner This is definitely an old-style as in authentic hasn't been updated recently diner. Long counter and window booths to choose from with your seating. My friend had the tuna melt with coleslaw and a side of beef barely soup, which smelled amazing. She said the sandwich was grilled nicely. Not greasy. I had the ham club sandwich which was delicious. I really liked that I could get ham instead of the ubiquitous turkey. It was huge and I was only able to eat half, which meant a delicious lunch again the next day. The fries were crispy and not greasy. Service was good. Not super fast but good. We were there around 3 pm for an insanely late lunch. Bathroom was clean. Easy to get in and out of the parking lot. I recommend turning right and going the one block around to get back on the main drag as most drivers were disinclined to let you get in by making a left and merging in. I would definitely go back here. No frills but good American diner food. read more

I was hesitant to go inside this restaurant because the place looked a little run down but don't let that stop you from dropping by for a meal. The inside was just like a little ol' diner and the employees were all very friendly. Came here with family and I ordered the avocado burger and boy were they generous with the avocado. They pretty much gave me half a sliced avocado and it was delicious. I ate that thing like a barbarian. We also ordered the chicken pot pie, Fallbrook sandwiches, and country fried steak. All were very good. If I'm ever in the area again I'll come back to try something else on the menu maybe the waffle sundae or the magical cinnamon roll French toast! read more

I was in Fallbrook for the weekend and we decided to stop at this cafe for breakfast on our way home. I ordered the cafe special; it had a little bit of everything (biscuits w/ gravy, eggs, hash browns, sausage links etc). The waitress brought out a plate of pancakes for me and I was excited because I didn't notice the special came with a side of pancakes. I started smearing the butter and syrup on them when the waitress came back and said "you didn't order pancakes did you?" in a very condescending tone. As I was literally rubbing the butter on them she took the plate from me. I have never been so embarrassed at a restaurant before. I feel she could have asked if we wanted to add them to the order or asked for the plate back but removing it from me while I have my hands on it is so dehumanizing. Nice cafe find = good food and good service. Had the fish and chips. Appeared to be real cod (4 pieces) and french fries. The fish could have been cooked a bit more crispy and the fries could have been a little hotter, but still much better than most places. Also had jumbo shrimp plate, which was cooked perfectly and tasty. Both had bowls of clam chowder, with lots of clams, potatoes, and great taste. Ordered another 2 pieces of fish that were perfect ( hotter and crispier than the first 4 ) Dessert was spumoni ice cream. Waitress and staff were all very nice, friendly, and helpful. This place is VERY good. The service was amazing which means a lot to me when you're a flustered mom. Everything came in a timely manner and they were highly attentive to my children which was like 10 stars in my book. My daughter loves going to restaurants and I didn't realize this until now but she pays attention to customer service too. She likes that they catered to her needs in a timely manner because she was hangry. Everything she asked for was perfect and when your a kid servers tend to forget about you . We usually get the pot pie but decided to try the fried chicken today. It was incredible! So crispy and moist. It's hard to find good fried chicken. We used to drive up for Knott's chicken. Fallbrook Cafe is a nice place with very friendly staff. We have a little dog so we sat on the patio. Unfortunately the patio is not well attended to and the seating is not well thought out. Our server made good recommendations for the breakfast and while we were served promptly there were several mistakes. 1) The forgot to give us utensils 2) The coffee we served was cold 3) And as they got more customers, we felt like they wanted us out of there while we were still eating. It is hard to explain because the staff was still being nice! Onto the food, I had ordered a sausage omelette. The omelette would have been fine except for the fact that they put sliced cheese on it which was not even melted properly:( They should do better than sliced cheese and I am sure I am not asking for much. My wife had ordered waffles which were very sweet but still yummy. To a good degree the waffles were good for tasting but not for a meal because of how deeply they were fried with so much sugar. In all it was an ok visit, we might eat here again without our dog simply to reconsider this review. The staff is definitely kind but they need to figure out who is serving who and where the customer visit stands at any point in time. read more

My husband and I ate there two days ago. Ordered a corned beef and rye sandwich. It came absolutely plain with no mustard and none offered. We had to ask for it. We ordered two diet drinks which were mostly ice. When we received the bill it showed that the drinks totaled $7.98. This is a local favorite but I had never been so last Sunday we had a free day for a brunch and decided to go. The special was steak & eggs, which I love so I ordered it. I am not a super picky eater but I like my steak rare. Hey, everyone has their thing, right? So I specified to the kind waitress how important it was to me that rare means rare lol She wrote it in big letters on the ticket and went along to the kitchen. Unfortunately, when the food arrived, the steak wasn't rare. It wasn't even medium rare, or medium, or medium well. It was brown all the way through; ruined. It was practically a hockey puck. Now, I guess I could've been a good girl and chewed on that piece of leather but I couldn't do it. I called her back and showed her and asked for another one please? She said of course and took it back. A few minutes later, she brings me another one and asks me to cut it so she can see. It's medium well at best. There is a *slight* tinge of pink if you squint a little looking at it in a good light with rosy glasses on. I was bummed. She was bummed. She takes the plate. Another waitress back with hockey puck #2 and tells me that this is the rarest they can go because of the health department *le sigh* See, I work in the food handling industry and that is not true. They can recommend people not eat meat a certain way, but it's not against the law or a restaurant code or anything. Waitress #2 literally tries to give it back to me. I tell her no thank you. I look on the menu for something else but I'm pretty much over it at this point. She comes back and I tell her we're all set and ready for the check. She tells me she wouldn't have wanted the steak like that either but their hands are tied! So I politely respond that is not true. There is no law or code saying a person can't order a rare steak. And IF that was the restaurant policy, waitress #1 should have informed me at the time of my ordering it. Now if she didn't know, the cook would have seen the giant RARE she wrote on the ticket and let her know they don't do rare and to tell me asap so i could change my order, not try to pass off well done as rare; and twice! So insulting. Then come and try to cover up by sending waitress #2 to tell me some phoney baloney lie about health department rules. My real issue is with all this is actually with the dishonesty and way the staff handled the whole thing, not the food itself so do yourself a favor, go to Rainbow Oaks instead, where the staff have integrity and you get what you order! read more

Had been wanting to eat here for a long time. Waited 45 minutes just to be seated while watching multiple people who checked in after me, be seated before me. A waitress came over and said it'd be 5 more minutes. But nope. It was more like 10+ more. When we finally sat (no apologies or acknowledging of the length of time it took to be seated having been made) we had to wait even more to put in our drink orders. When they were brought, THAT waitress promptly left without asking if we were ready to order. This is an hour after checking in now. Finally a different waitress came and helped us. Food was good. When we got our check gratuity was added (18%!) so, THAT sucked. And the waitress who had said "5 more minutes" took our payment with the most annoying look on her face the whole time.
