I love their grated avocado toast and their assortment of delicious pastries. Only things I would change is that they could possibly open a little earlier for us morning people? 6:30? I just wonder too, if they make their syrups in house? My husband is a health nut and worries about my seed oil and sugar intake. I think he's trying to squash the joyful relationship I have with coffee. I love High Tide!

The night before my dissertation defense, I ordered a 96 oz coffee (joe-to-go) to go with a note saying I was defending my PhD (preemptively apologizing if I looked like a frazzled raccoon and worried anyone on accident while picking up). When I walked in at 7:45 AM (15 min earlier than my pick up time, bc anxiety), the staff immediately complimented my defense outfit -- instant confidence boost -- and when I said I was the person picking up "lots of coffee," they led me to the coffee, already packed and ready :') They all wished me good luck with the warmest, most dazzling smiles. They even included a note that said, "You got this~!" which I kept in front of me during my defense. (see photo) And I passed!!! Also, they gave me half-and-half and oat milk?? In this economy?? Oat milk is basically liquid gold. I felt so loved. So caffeinated. So non-dairy option supported. Usually after defenses, there is leftover coffee that people are trying to give away. But me and High Tide Coffee? No sir. No leftovers. One of my committee members had about 4-5 cups, and I am not exaggerating., (Even in a field that basically runs on coffee, academics are running on caffeine.... and wine, so a room of 12 people, not all drinking coffee, and still finishing 96 oz of coffee is a record.) Thank you, High Tide, for the excellent coffee, the kindness, the emotional support, and the very necessary academic bean juice. I am officially glad I chose you to help caffeinate the most important morning of my PhD. and thank you again for supporting me emotionally and caffeine-induced confidence :)

I visit Havana Grill whenever I want some tasty oxtail.  I noticed oxtail was one of the specials.  Last time I visited the oxtail was on the regular menu and you could order it anytime. Oxtail was extremely tender and juicy.  The mix of beef flavor and the spices in the sauce were delicious.  This is my favorite oxtail dish in town. French fries were crisp and had a delicious fried flavor.  The oil was fresh and there was no aftertaste.  Excellent fries. Pineapple upside down cake was dense and did not have a fresh baked aura.  The outside part was starting to harden like it was getting stale so I guess it was baked at least a day ago.  Cake had a mostly mild flavor.  I didn't taste the pineapple though the top was lined with it.  I did taste a ton of ginger flavor.  It appears pieces of ginger were mixed in with the pineapple.  I love ginger as part of soy/ginger seasoning for fish but not in a cake.  This is one of the worst pineapple upside down cakes I have had.  My favorite is at Roy's where you have to give them 30 minute notice and they bake it to order.  Roy's version was piping hot out of the oven, was moist and fluffy, with amazing pineapple flavor. Staff provided fast and friendly service.

After reaching out to them, was finally able to get a response concerning their interest. They referred me to their website to review food choices. Their offerings are really extensive, which made selection rather daunting. Brenda called me to help with putting something together. However, when I asked to meet with her, was told that their policy was not to meet in person until they had a signed contract. For me, that was like the chicken and the egg. How do I get to the point of signing a contract when I'm not sure what to request. She volunteered to put together a proposal for 20-25 people. Her initial proposal called for 5-7 catering staff since I wanted to have my guests served. After a conversation regarding the many staff for the size of my party seemed excessive, we agreed on a bartender and a server. That seemed more reasonable so a contract was issued which I signed and returned. Prepayment was made for the contract items. This was roughly two weeks before the event. When I didn't hear anything from Brenda about the details and logistics for about a week, I became concerned about knowing who was doing what. Her response came in a timely manner so we both knew who was doing what. There was no offer to meet to work out details. There was no offer to stop by my home to set what the situation called for. But again, because to the number of positive reviews, I wasn't overly concerned. On the day of the event, I went to the service for my mother and delivered her eulogy. Minutes before I was to speak, got a call from Brenda who wanted to know about getting in the house because no one seemed to be a home. The front door was left unlocked and my neighbor was supposed to be watching for the van to park in our driveway and apparently didn't see Sedrick arrive. When informed about the unlocked door, Brenda passed that info along to the bartender to begin setting up. Jane left the service early to come home and see if our bartender, Sedrick, needed anything. This is where things went off the rails. From the moment Jane arrived home, it was clear that there was way too much work to do before guests from the service began to arrive. She enlisted the help of my neighbor to help with the setup. Why? Because the server I paid for who was supposed to help with the setup was NOT going to be there to help with either setup or serving. The bartender was scheduled to arrive at 2pm, giving MBM about an hour and a half to get ready for my guests. Well, Jane and my neighbor were working diligently to help with setup, they are not professional caterers. While Sedrick was trying to get things set up, my guests started arriving a little before 4pm. Since Sedrick was busy with set up, I stepped in to begin serving drinks to my guests. That was NOT what I planned. Once setup was pretty much completed, I was relieved of my bartending duties and able to spend time with my guests, some of which had traveled thousands of miles to be here. Things finally began flowing and my guests enjoyed themselves. So why such a poor review? Well, you should be able to get my drift about what didn't go well. Let me expand on that. If l were just rating the performance of the staff, Sedrick was 5-star. He's personable, professional and has a "can do" attitude. As good as he is, he cannot do the work of two people and succeed. He was setup for failure by MBM, and darn near did. Also, I paid for a server, yet none was provided. I'm writing this review several days after the event because I wanted to give MBM an opportunity to follow up with me. They have NOT as of yet. That leaves me to believe that even though they knew my event was going to be a challenge with a lone bartender, they have little concern for me as a client. If you're looking for a caterer to just drop off food, MBM gets my recommendation. The food was excellent. But if you want to have a caterer who will handle everything for your event, like Chef Dora does, look for someone else.

It's super easy to get there on the sprinter- don't even bother trying to drive down there and find parking. It's a total madhouse. There's something for everyone here. Crafts, jewelry, even a psychic reader.... A lot of people confuse this with the Farmer's Market- that's on Thursday morning. I haven't been there in years! This is called Sunset Market because it's in the evening! We've been there so many times that we know where out favorite food stands are. My oldest son loves the birria mac and cheese tacos while my youngest son loves a certain french fry stand. My partner and I love finding new food stands and trying them. They're often overlooked...and that's a shame! There's a fun kiddo area if you're bringing little ones- I've seen bounce houses there. Pro-tip- there's a line of portable restrooms by the kid bounce house section. There's also live music with local bands and a few high tops there. They go very quickly. Lots of people just grab a seat on the curb and eat. Every year, it get more and more crowded- people, strollers, dogs...it's nearly impossible to walk down certain food heavy streets to see what's down there. So, we try to time our trips to arrive as soon as the market starts and then leave when the crowds really start flowing in. And every year, it gets more and more expensive...so be prepared. Cash is king there, unless you don't mind paying service fees on credit cards and even venmo).

From the moment we booked their all-inclusive package, the planning process became incredibly easy. Abbey has built an outstanding network of top-tier vendors throughout San Diego, and every single one exceeded our expectations. Our wedding coordinator, David Robertson, guided us through every detail with professionalism, patience, and genuine care. He made us feel confident and prepared every step of the way, allowing us to truly enjoy the experience instead of feeling overwhelmed. DJ Abel did a fantastic job with both the music and audio setup, ensuring everything flowed perfectly throughout the ceremony and reception. Our photographer, Misha Rockova, was incredibly professional, organized, and wonderful to work with. She made everyone feel comfortable while capturing every meaningful moment. The cake from Sugar Bears Bakery was absolutely delicious, and our guests are still talking about the food catered by Abbey. Everything was beautifully presented and exceeded our expectations. The florals from Emerald & Ivy were beyond gorgeous. They transformed our backyard venue into something even more beautiful than we had imagined. The bartender was exceptional, and every member of the service staff helped make the evening feel warm, polished, and truly special. Their attention to detail and hospitality did not go unnoticed. What impressed us most was how effortlessly everything came together. Every vendor worked seamlessly as a team, and we never had to worry about a thing on our wedding day. We were simply able to be present with our family and friends and enjoy every moment. Our guests repeatedly commented on how elegant, tasteful, and well-executed the entire event was. It was everything we had hoped for and more. Abbey Catering & Events gave us a wedding day that will forever be etched in our memories. From the start Will, who signed us up, was most helpful and really knew his information. We clicked instantly and it was such a pleasure to talk with him and meet him in person. We signed up for the tasting before signing with Abbey Catering and that was such a great experience. We got to meet Will in person and there was so much food to try and luckily bring home. After meeting Will we really had a great feeling and signed up within that week. The food was incredible at the tasting, and it was hard choosing which entrée and hours d'oeuvres to choose from since everything was so good. Chuck, our wedding coordinator, was beyond great and so helpful. He was such an asset to have on our side and really made the day go smooth. He was also so friendly and great to work with. We really felt like we made friends with our Abbey team There were absolutely no hiccups whatsoever and I was so calm the whole day. David, our catering lead, was another amazing team member. He was right there to offer us food first and make sure we had enough of our share. The rest of the catering team always made us a priority too and I was very hungry after the ceremony in between pictures so that was so great. We ordered the following for tray passed hors d'oeuvres: petite beef wellington, wild mushroom arancini, bruschetta, and bacon wrapped stuffed dates. We opted for the dual entrée of the boneless short ribs, and the panko-herb crusted chicken with vegetables and the truffle smashed potatoes. All were so good and I wish I could eat them all again Our guests could not stop raving about the food. They even made dietary restriction meals for several of our guests, and they said it was one of the best vegan/vegetarian meals they have ever had. We really were impressed with the food and so glad we went with Abbey as that was important for us to have really good tasting food. We opted for the whole package with their vendors for flowers, DJ, photographer, and cake. Best decision ever!!! We had Emerald and Ivy for the florist and my goodness Mishele, and the Abbey team put together exactly what I pictured in my mind! Such beautiful flowers and we rented bud vases and candles from her. DJ Abel from the Wedding Entertainment Collective was beyond amazing! He played our songs and knew the vibes we were going for. The dance floor was a hit, and our guests were dancing the whole night. Everyone was telling us the DJ was so good! Misha, our photographer, was amazing and made us feel so comfortable. The pictures are so beautiful! The cake and mini cupcakes from Sugar Bears Sweet Provisions were out of this world! I'm so glad we saved our wedding cake because we ate it the next day. Our guests loved the mini cupcakes too and we even had enough to give out at treats and take home. We really are so grateful we decided to go with Abbey catering. They really went above and beyond. The whole team, Will, Chuck, David, and the caterers were 10 out of 10 Thank you so much and to the Abbey vendors for making our day even more special!

Evolution golf carts look and feel pretty luxurious. Worth noting to get yourself the upgrades if you can- really nice upgrades elevated the golf cart (ie extended battery range, phone charging pads; cup holders; ice chest that locks securely in the back; forward-facing seats). Very competitive pricing and they've been easy to work with on our purchases. We had purchased our golf carts this past summer. Without any fuss, they picked the cart up both times and tended to the matter and returned it promptly. Despite the hiccups- they have been continuously receptive and patient with us. They've listened to our requests and each of our concerns. When we first had the golf cart picked up for warranty, they contacted us and kept us posted on the status. While we did have good communication during that month it was in service, there wasn't any specific information on what was done during the warranty repair. I don't recall any paperwork but if I missed seeing that, apologies. I can check out emails/ glove box again. Nonetheless, we addressed it, they again, were very patient and receptive.
