As soon as I walked through the door I felt welcomed. Everything was thoroughly explained, including pricing. We all know that having the expenses detailed is a big plus. They also have a great frame selection, the best in the area really. It only took ~two days to both take my exam and have a complete pair of glasses. You really can't beat that. I chose a pair that has a removable sun-clip, it is very minimal and it attaches behind the frames. Not to mention that my current pair of glasses were adjusted for free without me even asking! We (my husband, daughter and I) have been going to Falcon since they opened--we followed Rich there after he left Classic Optical. We like Falcon for the following reasons: 1--Glasses are well done and well fitted. When I tried varilux lenses and did not like them, there were no problems exchanging them. All other glasses that we have ordered have had no problems. 2--Rich knows style. He has both plain and fashionable glasses, and gives really good advice on what looks good on you. 3--Prices are good. 4--Customer service is great! I took my daughter's glasses in the get a new ear piece. Instead of putting a new one on, he took her lens out and put them in new frames. Ones that did NOT look good on her face. She said she didn't like them. Rich the owner said to my 11 yrs old "I'm going to put them back in your old frames for free and then I never want to see you again, sound good?" They really know their business and are able to make recommendations for eyewear and care that will please most. Prices are very good and they are sensitive to working with those on a budget. i've been a customer for over 20 years. i am writing this in response to GAYLE M's "riddle me this: whats the worst posible customer service you can imagine?" Well, GAYLE, the treatment you claim you were given is not anywhere near the worst possible service I can imagine. Try this on for size: never mind, you do not obviously have the imagination for any circumstance besides your own. NOT calling a long distance number is a COST-CUTTER FOR A SMALL BUSINESS. Perhaps this business has experience with reminding people only to have them NOT SHOW UP ANYWAY; not jumping into the latest phone technology is a COST-CUTTER FOR A SMALL BUSINESS. You list your address as NY, NY. I have known many people from NY, NY, and not all of them are as opinionated, and arrogant as you seem to be. My sister has lived in NY, NY for many years--her husband is from NY, NY, and he is not opinionated and arrogant and NASTY as you seem to be. Try this on for size: this review brings to mind the old bias: "New York City people are all arrogant a--h---s" It baffles me how people who move to any area from 'out of state' expect to move into a small community, and expect that their way of doing things is the way everyone's should be. That is the kind of arrogance that gives people who" recently moved from out of state" a bad name and a bad reputation. in fact for me, it epitomizes the most selfish of human beings. Why move here? and "this clown" is A MAN WHO USES ONLY THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY FOR THE EYEWEAR AND LENSES HE SELLS. He is the best "fitter" to your face of any eyewear dispenser I have been to in over 50 years ( including Syracuse Upstate Medical Center affiliates; Imogene Bassett affialates in Coorperstown; and same in Utica, NY). This is the man who fixes, adjusts, and puts new nosepieces on at no cost to customers....you don't get that in bigger Optical shops...nor may I say Wal-mart--which in our small-town area is the next closest dispenser. This is invaluable to eyeglass wearers as out of adjustment fit on the face is nearly intolerable for several reasons. Next, Rich is NOT ancient! (Were you 12 when you wrote your review?). AND, folks who love cars love a man who loves cars. enough said about that! I know your review is old (5/5/11), and i may be a fool to respond to it, but really! Riddle me this: What's the worst possible customer service you can imagine? Try this one on for size. I recently moved to the area from out of state and kept my old cell phone number. The owner of this place told me that I need to get a local phone number or he won't call me to confirm appointments because "it is a long distance number". Are you kidding me?! This clown is as ancient as the Falcons he has a fetish for. Find a provider that has current technology and better customer service. read more

I've been going to Falcon optical for years. Experienced amazing customer service (really tries to remember everyone's names including my boyfriend's when he accompanied me only once) and they were always helpful and gave great advice for frames. I've also brought vintage frames for fitting lenses in and they do an excellent job. They have a respect and affinity for vintage eyewear. I have Medicaid and they have never treated me differently as a result. Very respectful. I live in Ithaca and go out of my way to get here. read more

If I could give Falcon Optical in Dryden zero stars, I would. First, the owner broke my glasses in half, forcing me to buy another pair. When he broke them, he was far from apologetic. He was irate at me and slammed down the pieces of the frames. I tried to deescalate the situation by telling him it was ok, but he had what can only be described as a temper tantrum, complete with foot stomping. When I came back a few days later for the new glasses I had ordered, the prescription was incorrect. The eye doctor was nice about it, examined me again, and corrected the script. As I waited in the waiting room, the owner went into another room and began slamming my things down and yelling insults and obscenities at/about me in front of my four year old son, mom, and other customers. When the owner stormed into the waiting room, stomping, waving his finger at me, demanding to know what my problem was, I asked if there was any way they could have my lenses in before next week. The owner told me that he "wasn't going to bust his a**" and got in my face. He raised his voice at me and told me to get out of his store, that he was done dealing with the scene I was making. I had not raised my voice, I had merely asked if there was any way my glasses could be finished before next week. I was not the one making the scene, but I did not point that out. The eye doctor was very apologetic, but as he put it, there was nothing he could do. He wasn't the owner. As he wrote down my prescription so that I could fill it elsewhere, as the owner did not want me to come back to his store again and he refused to give me my order of glasses and contacts, the owner kept storming into the exam room demanding the merchandise back that I had already paid for. He continued raising his voice at me, standing so close we were touching, as the doctor wrote my scripts. I said nothing, but he kept going. I told him politely that I had already paid for the glasses and needed something so that I can see, so as they were already paid for, I would not be returning them until I was able to resolve this matter elsewhere. When I refused to turn over the glasses I had paid for, he told me to find someone else to bring the glasses and lenses in on my behalf because he did not want me in his store ever again and he "did not want me walking around town with his merchandise" (which again I had paid for). He told me he would not refund me personally, but he would give a partial refund to the person who comes on my behalf. To make matters worse, the owner refused to cooperate with the new eye doctor I went to after this incident. He lied about his fax machine being down (I know this wasn't true because it was working just fine when I was there an hour earlier) and rudely told the receptionist from the new eye doctor's office that he would not confirm my prescription over the phone even though I signed a release. He told them that if I wanted my prescription I could get another exam somewhere else (knowing my insurance would not cover another exam so soon after having one). Eventually he sent my new eye doctor my prescription that was over a year old, not my current one. So, now I don't have access to my current prescription. I want to emphasize that I never raised my voice or said anything that was disrespectful or rude, even as he yelled at me and attempted to violate my personal space. I even stepped outside for a couple of minutes so that I could take some deep breaths to keep from crying and give the owner an opportunity to calm down. I did not deserve to be treated the way I was. The owner has what appears to be an anger management problem and I wouldn't recommend Falcon to my worst enemy. I am disgusted by the way I was treated. My son was very upset by this man's behavior. He didn't understand why this man was in my face and using inappropriate language. It scared him. No one should be cursed at or humiliated over a polite request for a correct prescription. read more

I LOVE THIS STORE. Falcon Optical, an unsuspecting shop in Dryden NY of all places, has The Best selection of Eyewear in Tompkins County. Hands down. And the best service. AND PARKING. Glasses for your budget or your whimsy. Then you will come across the "OMG I Have to Have Those!" pair. Rich ( owner - often in the back of the house ) and his daughter Celina ( up front) are the perfect balance for each other. There might be wisecracking, there might be several customers being served at once. But each and every customer gets personal, dedicated, expert service. Rich is an outstanding optician and will Do Whatever It Takes to make your glasses RIGHT. He will ask your needs, about your lifestyle, do you use a laptop or desktop, all to make sure your glasses are perfect. You can pull every frame off the shelves and find several you want, and they will take their time to help you choose. Or you can have Rich and Celina walk right up to the perfect pair of frames for your face. But be careful.
