Tourist review I'm originally from Los Angeles and decided to visit Seattle. Well as we walked the gum wall, took pictures at the fish market, and rode lime bikes we got hungry. We parked at Pyramid brewing and took bikes up to the fish market. Which if you don't have an electric bike then don't do it on a regular one cause I was dying. So many hills. I like this place, and I think I find humor in the fact that Falafel King is right across the street from Deja Vu Showgirls. Ah... I'm going to hell for that one. Anyway, you have an excellent falafel stand here that is practically a part of Pike Place Market with how close it is to the rest of the stores. But with all the cars zooming by on the street separating this place from Showgirls, it really feels more like a part of Downtown Seattle. Despite the excellent location, this restaurant is surprisingly cheap and shows absolutely no sign of price gouging. Tourists would love coming here to get food at non-touristy prices. The best part is that the food is still pretty good, so this is a great place to take a break from Showgirls (though I vehemently deny ever going to the place across the street and then coming here for dinner). This is just a small and simple restaurant that gets the job done in a great area at great prices. I would probably go again... for the falafels, of course. read more

Was working another late night at the office the other day, so our manager went to Falafel King to bring us back some dinner. Have to agree with Erica R about the falafel here being incredibly subpar. While I can't compare to the rest of Seattle (not having gone anywhere else yet), the falafel I've had back in the Bay Area were never this bad. They were moist, crisp, and fluffy, not dense, dry, and soggy on the exterior (this may have been due to takeout though). Their chicken shawarma wasn't that bad though. While walking around Pike Place, I got hungry and wanted something a little small and I saw Falafel King so I decided to stop in and get a gyros sandwich. The gyro meat itself is nothing special since they just use Kronos gyros but their tzatziki sauce is great. It has a nice kick to it and goes really well on the sandwich. Good amount of veggie is piled up and the price is reasonable. Definitely nice to have something different rather than all the American/delis around the area. What I didn't like was the cashier's attitude. When I ordered a gyros he asked if I wanted soup for a few bucks and when I said "No I just need something small, thanks" I saw his expression change. It's as if I didn't order enough and he didn't want to help me at all or something. Is it that wrong not to get a cup of soup to go along with it? Geez. Not the best but for sure worthy of four stars considering it's not meant to be a 5 star restaurant. I though the flavor was there for sure. They do go a little heavy on the garlic so be warned. Lol. I love garlic so this was not at all a problem for me. The place seams pretty clean too, I didn't see any dirty looking utensils being used. If your familiar with hole in the wall Seattle places that's not uncommon. Basically it was everything I expected plus a little more. I also love sauces and find that most places charge me a fee to have them put extra on, this place did not. The employees are pretty cool too, you can tell their just going through the daily grind as any of us, and get that people are in a hurry at lunch so they make it snappy. My food probably took about 10 minutes from the time I ordered. If your in a hurry and craving a falafel it's worth stopping by. Good food! Spiced different than other beef shawarma I've had, but very good and generous with the spices and the servings. Nothing fancy, just good tasty chow. We ordered the dish "Dajaj Mishwi" - was grilled chicken thighs on a bed of saffron rice, with a side salad and some hummus. The chicken itself was juicy and so flavorful with just the perfect amount of spice. The rice was some sort of short grain rice that accompanied the chicken well. This tiny, overheated shop has room for a few customers at a time. When I visited, it was operated by one (seemingly grumpy) man, and the patio outside was pretty jam packed. I was admonished for leaning against the drink machines. The menu says the sandwiches are served on pita bread. This is not pita bread. I was raised to call this 'khubz', or Syrian bread. It is larger, thinner, and tougher than pita bread. It is far superior, IMHO, for making an 'arooz' (sorry, I have no idea how to spell that. It's what my grandma called it), or middle eastern sandwich. I ordered a gyro, along with a couple of other things, like a Greek salad (which was lacking olives, as the proprietor warned they were out of). This gyro was a delight. The bread was toasted to perfection (maintaining its body an hour after pickup) and the fillings provided an amazing taste, consisting of savory meat, tomatoes, lettuce and sauce. The sauce seemed to contain some yogurt, along with some delightful spice, giving a tantalizing, hotish bite. Not your typical gyro, but I may have enjoyed this one above all others.
