It's a small restaurant of seven years (probably more focused on take-out) but it's on a prime block, near Pike and across from Showgirls. The owner and cook is a cool Eritrean dude with a sense of humor. Ordered one of their popular dishes, the Chicken Shawarma (halal meat). It came with a side salad which had a lemony and garlicky dressing. The dish looked like the menu picture: yellow rice, seasoned chicken, a swipe of hummus, Tahiti sauce with paprika sprinkled. I also ordered a side of Pita. I'm a low-sodium gal but this dish was flavorful and rich (without being salty). I can understand the comments of the heavy-hand on the garlic but honestly, garlic is so good for you and it keeps the Mosquitos away too. Pita was chewy and just enough (not stingy in quantity). I like this place, and I think I find humor in the fact that Falafel King is right across the street from Deja Vu Showgirls. Ah... I'm going to hell for that one. Anyway, you have an excellent falafel stand here that is practically a part of Pike Place Market with how close it is to the rest of the stores. But with all the cars zooming by on the street separating this place from Showgirls, it really feels more like a part of Downtown Seattle. Despite the excellent location, this restaurant is surprisingly cheap and shows absolutely no sign of price gouging. Tourists would love coming here to get food at non-touristy prices. The best part is that the food is still pretty good, so this is a great place to take a break from Showgirls (though I vehemently deny ever going to the place across the street and then coming here for dinner). This is just a small and simple restaurant that gets the job done in a great area at great prices. I would probably go again... for the falafels, of course. read more

Was working another late night at the office the other day, so our manager went to Falafel King to bring us back some dinner. Have to agree with Erica R about the falafel here being incredibly subpar. While I can't compare to the rest of Seattle (not having gone anywhere else yet), the falafel I've had back in the Bay Area were never this bad. They were moist, crisp, and fluffy, not dense, dry, and soggy on the exterior (this may have been due to takeout though). Their chicken shawarma wasn't that bad though. While walking around Pike Place, I got hungry and wanted something a little small and I saw Falafel King so I decided to stop in and get a gyros sandwich. The gyro meat itself is nothing special since they just use Kronos gyros but their tzatziki sauce is great. It has a nice kick to it and goes really well on the sandwich. Good amount of veggie is piled up and the price is reasonable. Definitely nice to have something different rather than all the American/delis around the area. What I didn't like was the cashier's attitude. When I ordered a gyros he asked if I wanted soup for a few bucks and when I said "No I just need something small, thanks" I saw his expression change. It is larger, thinner, and tougher than pita bread. It is far superior, IMHO, for making an 'arooz' (sorry, I have no idea how to spell that.
