I came from out of town and this place is absolutely amazing. The owner is very nice and friendly. The portion is huge and the price is good. Best broken rice and banh mi I have ever had in the states. Highly recommend the homemade yogurt with purple rice!!! It's very refreshing and healthy. Food is definitely made with lots of love. Will definitely come back here when I have a chance!
ALMOST 4 stars. It's good for a little hole in the wall mom and pop place (that's a BIG plus). I'm still thinking of meatball sandwich from the first time we went. We got 5 rice dishes to go. My mom really enjoyed it and a starving me couldn't finish one plate. Yes, there is THAT MUCH FOOD. Would I go back? Yes, I'm looking forward to it.
My husband and I spent the weekend in Houston eating delicious (mostly) Asian food and this was my favorite thing I ate. I got the Pork Broken Rice Bowl and it was absolutely delicious. I've never had broken rice before, so I was excited to try it. The portion was big and the rice soaked up all of the flavor. They don't take cards, so it's cash or Zelle only. We originally tried to come at 9 when their hours say they open, but they weren't open. We came back in the afternoon and they were open. I'm not sure if this was a one time thing or if their hours are wrong.
Atmosphere: It's a hole-in-the-wall spot, so don't expect a super modernized atmosphere. There are about six sets of tables, a slightly dark setting, and lots of "street market" vibes. Service: Super friendly couple -- very attentive and welcoming. Food: The prices are awesome! They give you a lot of food -- definitely a bang for your buck. Overall: Highly recommended. Sadly, they'll be discontinuing these dishes and will only be selling soup and to-go seasoned meats. We still highly recommend this place!
Quite possibly the best Vietnamese food I've had. That being said, this was the first time I've ever had broken rice so it's difficult to say with confidence. This delicious hole-in-wall is tucked away in an unassuming strip mall. Small interior. Fast and kind service.
3 stars because it is flaming hot inside and I couldn't eat comfortably. Definitely need to have AC and not small fans running throughout the restaurant. Authentic and very tasty Vietnamese food. Com tam had a great portion and everything tasted amazing. Food was flavorful. I'd come back to try the banh mi here next. $6.50 for banh mi and $14 for a plate of com tam. Price is very fair. Couldn't pay by credit card for some reason even though there was a machine to process, they wanted me to Zelle.
Com tam and Banh mi id really good... drove 30 minutes from Katy and buy Togo... the fish sauce is good
Extremely delicious and authetic food located in Chinatown! Not many tables inside, but they are arrangeable to accommodate small and large groups. The meat options on the menu are frozen, and the rice dishes and banh mis are cooked in the restaurant. The owner greeted us when we walked in the door, and she was very sweet and welcoming! She explained the entire menu and recommended her favorite items! The bee banh mi was very full and delicious, full of meat and vegetables. The broken rice dish with pork was very filling and had a lot of flavor, especially the sauce! It was big enough for two people!! Would highly recommend dining or ordering out from this local and family owned business !
Grilled beef tripe banh mi has excellent taste ! The seasoning is on point! Loved it and devoured the whole thing in 2mins! Highly recommend! The owner is super nice, welcoming and friendly. Would def come back very soon!
We came here for a quick lunch since we work nearby. For lunch, they offer several different banh mi options plus some homemade drinks/teas. I tried the grilled pork banh mi and thought it was a great size. The meat was super tender and flavorful - a really great sandwich! We also shared their tamarind tea, which was a good balance of tart with sweet. The main attractor here is the very friendly woman who helped us decide what to get from her menu. She is a great saleswoman! Clear passion and love for sharing their recipes with others. Support local and check these guys out!
Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 3/5 This is one of the very best com tam aka broken rice restaurant in Houston hands down! The owner is a super sweet lady and her husband is the cook. The restaurant has coolers on both sides filled with frozen marinated meats you can buy and cook at home. On the com dac biet there was fried egg, egg meatloaf, nem, bi, and thit nuong served with fish sauce. 4 different types of pork! You have to pour the fish sauce over the rice!
I love this place. Hands down one of the best Viet foods in Houston Texas. It was really hard to hear how much covid had effected their business. Due to the lack of customers they had to temporarily take out a lot of the items on the menu. Currently all they serve are the banh mi sandwiches but they were still delicious. We three sandwiches and had the nice owner cut the sandwiches into thirds so we could each have a piece of each other's. We ordered the meatball, the chicken and the fish. The meatball was a huge hit with my brother and friend. I loved the fish and the meatball came in a close second. I also recommend trying their sweet soup concoction. It has 15+ ingredients inside that benefits your skin, hair and reduces heat exhaustion. The owner is this sweet viet lady that is trying so hard to just get the walk in customers to try their sandwiches. Many just hear that they don't have rice on the menu currently and they walk out. I admit we also almost walked out when we heard they only had sandwiches. A good blogger who just so happened to be eating there at the time convinced us to give it a try and we thank her for that. I hope they can make it through this pandemic because I would definitely come again the next time I am in Houston

Have you heard of hole in the walls? This is TRUE to that! When I first walked in, I wasn't sure if I walked in the right place. My friend recommended their sandwiches and said they tend to sell out so I was imagining a full house. But no, I walked into a tiny cafe with freezers and refrigerators lining the walls and a few tables in the middle. There were only three others in the restaurant but it was a Tuesday lunch and raining outside. Apparently they've been around for about 8 years, but we are just visiting them for the first time. The menu has changed a bit, so don't pay attention to the posters on the wall. It's basically just sandwiches and 1 rice plate now. Their $8 special cold cut sandwich is expensive for being on Bellaire but I will say their meat was flavorful and there were a lot of it. I actually didn't finish my sandwich because I was helping my hubs finish his rice place. You can select two different meats for the $15 rice plate. I'm not even sure if my near-adult son could finish the rice plate by himself. Overall, I would highly recommend them and would come again! If you speak Viet, the owner likes to chat. read more
So I think this is my new favorite banh mi spot in town. Its definitely tucked away in a corner and doesn't look like much when you enter. There's a small dining space with fridges and freezers lining the restaurant as it seems they also sell a lot of prepared foods for people to fully cook themselves. The staff/owner was super friendly and was happy to help explain what's popular and what options they had. Sadly, they were out of the cold cut combo (dac biet) so my partner and i went for a grilled pork and beef tripe. If you've read any of my other reviews, you'd likely know I love offal meat and to have beef tripe in a banh mi was a whole experience for me. The tripe was well cooked (think dimsum braised style) and they put a nice sauce that is sweet, savory, and spicy on it too. It had fresh veggies and the bread itself was light and crisp. They also are not stingy at all with the meat as both the tripe and grilled pork banh mi were stacked with protein. The grilled pork was also really good, lemon grass, char flavor, and same sauce that was in the beef tripe banh mi as well. They do also offer other plates of food and one person was eating one when we came in and it looked delicious. After having the banh mi here, I can see myself stopping by to pick one up every time I'm in the area. It keeps well and because they were so large, we couldn't finish them but air fryer they came back to life and the bread remained light and crisp. Honestly, super recommend for a very filling, delicious, and affordable meal! read more

Stopped by this hidden gem just now, we ordered the Vietnamese coffee, pork bbq and beef bbq banh mi. All 3 items were wonderful and they were generous with the meats and veges. The bread was crispy and chewy and veges were fresh!! But non of that compares to service we received from the owners! They were wonderful and courteous. We are definitely coming back read more

I was kinda skeptical because of the half English half Vietnamese business name. However, I was impressed with how good the broken rice platter was!! The person who took our order was super sweet, she may have been the owner? It was Friday during lunch time and she was by herself in front of house. She recommended the popular and best dishes to try. Our drinks were forgotten even after food came out but she apologized and was very genuine. I didn't give a perfect 5 stars because there were some things they didn't have on the menu that we wanted to try. We ordered nem cuon as appetizers but that didn't come out til we were half way done with our food and it was the regular goi cuon. I told her that's fine we don't want it anymore because we're getting full. However she still had it remade and brought it out. My girlfriend and I were famished so we didn't take pics of all the food *sad face* but luckily I managed to get a pic of my rice plate. Cozy place and honest service! Must try! :) read more

The food was fantastic. Huge portions! Great value! We got the bo cuon la nho (beef wrapped in grape leaf) and the Banh hoi nem nuong/thit nuong (special viet vermicelli noodles with pork and spam-like mixed meat). The bo cuon came with papaya cucumber salad. Very good and only $6. The Banh hoi was a little expensive at $13 but it was well worth it. They gave us ample amounts of meat and veggies. We loved everything we ate. The restaurant is brand new and operated by a husband/wife duo, so the service was slow when we came in for dinner. Otherwise everything was awesome. They were friendly, welcoming people. Overall, this place is a nice, little restaurant that serves delicious, popular viet dishes. Definitely worth it! read more
Fairly new place behind Pho Ngon. Friendly and talkative owner. She recommended a few items for us. We tried the bo la nho which was very tasty. It was served over a mix of veggies/fruits (I think carrots, daikon, cucumbers, green apples, and mangos). We also got their combination com tam which was very good also. They're not skimpy with their portions. She added extra spice to our nuoc mam and it had real red peppers in it. We also tried nuoc mat per the owners recommendation. We thought it was ok but very refreshing. Would come back again to try their other dishes. I came back during lunch to order banh mi to-go since it had a lot of good reviews. They are generous with the meat and veggies but for $4.95 I thought it was a but overpriced. read more

Tried this place for a Banh Mi sandwich for the first time today at lunch. Their menu is limited since the pandemic but what I got was really good. I got a Pork Banh Mi sandwich and cold drink to go,...$7.10 total. This Pork Banh Mi sandwich is one of the best I've had in a long time. I actually can't remember having a better one in my many years. The Pork was really tender, plentiful and was good quality. The bread was perfect for a Banh Mi sandwich. The bread was fresh, crispy on the outside but not tough like most places. The sandwich had such a great flavor as well. Not sure if that was from the meat or the sauce but it was really good. Veggies were fresh as well. I will definitely be back while I'm working in the area. I'll probably make a trip from Deer Park and come back as well. The staff was also really nice. read more

Although I live literally 10 mins away from this restaurant, I had never heard of it until my friend recommended it to me. We got the Special Grilled Rice dish and the not-on-the-menu Grilled Lamb Rice dish. 1. Special Grilled Rice: the meat is either too dry or too moist. It was just good enough and very similar to the authentic one in Vietnam. The grilled pork cutlet, the steamed egg meatloaf, the shredded pork skin are really good. They also included a piece of grilled pork sausage. However, I do not really like it. To me, it needs to be more chewy or crunchy to make it more authentic taste. Overall, I rated this dish a 4/5. 2. Grilled Lamb Rice: you will get the whole big piece of lamb and it also comes with a small pile of vegetable. It tastes very different, compared to lamb dishes that we have tried else where. I don't know. It is not really spectacular that makes me want to order it every time. I do not dislike it as well. Anyway, just give a try. I think different people will have different taste and opinions. read more
