This sports center has so much potential but... currently it is in a corner of a building center and is a busy busy place! The parking is plenty but always filled - they did expand a bit into the gravel for more slots. A lot of people come to play competitive volleyball and indoor soccer leagues. They have pretty consistent competition + level of play. But the facility itself could definitely use some work. For starters, the indoors aren't ventilated that well; it can get super hot and muggy in the summer and pretty cold in the winter. The ceilings are only high in the middle courts for volleyball and is a bit short of a court so not much room to maneuver well. There is also a ledge along the side to put your stuff - but it will definitely be hit by balls here and there. I believe years ago you had to make an ID card which now run for about $5 a piece to play - but I haven't had any referees asking for those yet. The referees also just stand on the ground and rarely call for doubles/net :( hopefully some changes will be made for a fair judging system! They do have an electronic scoreboard to check up with - which is nice. Overall, I would recommend 5/10 for facility choice but 8/10 for league level play! read more

Idk why some people are knocking this place. My son started his indoor soccer season here this weekend and I started having memories of when I played! Lol. They have 3 fields that are similar size and 1 smaller one. 2 of the larger fields had turf, and I think the 3rd was padded; I think. The smaller of all the fields was hardwood/padded. When you enter the building you can head upstairs and easily view 2 of the fields, or go down to the field level and watch. If you're on the farther fields you have to go ground level. There was plenty of area to get close to the field and see all the action. All the fields are completely enclosed like a hockey rink, and they also have netting to the ceiling. There is also a snack area on the top floor. It's located in kind of a weird place. The surrounding buildings are industrial. You can tell at some point and time the sports complex was some kind of warehouse. Prob why some people complained about the heat and ac. I'm not worried about it, our season is in the winter so the kids will stay warm with all the running. If your cold and the parent, bring a jacket. Lol. read more

When we first registered a volleyball team at the Sportsplex, I should have taken our registration elsewhere. Upon entering the facility, I was told to give the check to someone in a side office (presumably the manager) who greeted me with a "I don't want to see you!" when I said I was interested in entering a new team. However, we still registered for several seasons as the Sportsplex was conveniently located for our players who at the time were coming in from Nova, Maryland, and DC. The longer our team played at the Sportsplex, the worse our officiating got. In the beginning, we had some decent officials who knew the game and made fair calls. Toward the end of our time, we were getting officials who had no clue about lifts, number of hits, proper hand signals, etc. Officials also let players pretty much run into the court to serve instead of calling feet going over the line. We also had a few officials who were just plain rude, and certain ones who would arrive very late which would cut into our playing time that we had paid for, but made sure our game ended on time. If you enter a team, please also be aware that there are no rosters, so some people sub all night and play across all divisions. We were in a mid-level division, but would often face teams who had upper level players, and strangely enough this tended to happen when the games mattered for a playoff spot. The Sportsplex was also very dirty when we played there. If you dive for a ball, expect to get up covered in grit. There is no air conditioning in the summer, and during the winter certain spots on the court are like being under a heat lamp. The overhead nets over the volleyball court are also annoying. We ended up moving our team to a league in the western part of the county and are much happier with the league, officials, and facilities there. read more

I've played women's 5v5, 6v6, & co-Ed, for about 4yes at this facility. There are 2 large fields with field turf surface, a smaller field with Astro turf- the old stuff, a furtsal court, and volley ball courts. The turf is awful, ripped and pieced together, it's an acl injury waiting to happen. In the summer it's sweltering hot with no a/c, in the winter it's cold, with no central heating- but they have elevated heat lamps u can stand under. The biggest issue with the facility is the outrageously poor "officiating". Many of the refs play in leagues here and their bias shows. They allow dangerous play to continue, they allow some players to get pushed around, dangerously, more than others, they ignore fouls, they don't protect players. I'm not Full disclosure, I have been suspended on 2 occasions, only one that I appealed. The management is as poor and biased as the refereeing. This is the closest facility to my home- that is the ONLY reason I have played here. The place is a dump. read more

Cons: Poor management makes this place suffer. High cost for league with almost no administration -- for a 6v6 team and 8 games, the cost is more than $700. They seem to know there are many people willing to put up with a lot just to have some organized competition -- and it shows in the pride they take in this place. Pros: It offers 6 fields: five turf and one hard court that doubles for volleyball, apparently. Good competition level. 1. Refs often play in the leagues they referee in. I haven't seen instances of blatant game-throwing, to be fair, but seems a little strange. They also have little regard for adhering to the rules for halftimes, starting the clock for the second half sometimes right after ending the first half. When you ask referees about this -- even nicely -- they ignore you. These are paid referees, they should at least explain themselves. 2. In the men's leagues, they swallow the whistles; it leads to dangerous play. I've been high-kicked and even had my life threatened by players there. Referees knew what was happening, and they ignored it, seems like a negligence lawsuit waiting to happen. There are no waivers for bodily injury, and if there are, they aren't judicious about enforcing them. They don't even keep rosters to keep track of who got what color cards. 3. It's hot in there. There's no circulation. So even on cold nights outside, the body heat (not to mention the smell) inside brings the temperature up to around 90 degrees. 4. Don't expect any sort of update to websites on schedule, standings or game times during the season. Other places are farther from the District, but they must be better than this. read more

I have been playing indoor soccer at this complex at least for the past 3 years. It is convenient to my house, and so I keep playing but really I don't know I'm getting the bang-for-my-buck. Although 2 months ago I would have rated them a 1-star, so I guess that is progress. Made a complaint about the turf and they replaced it. I have to respect that. The fields are good, and the competition for the most part is good. However their refs really could not be worse at times, and I feel there is certainly prejudice that goes on in the reffing and in the manager staff that works Sunday nights. Fairfax sportsplex allows people to play indoor soccer and volleyball. There are 3 or 4 fields for indoor soccer and 4 courts for volleyball. The place is okay... The courts are not that clean and the air is stuffy. There are giant industrial fans all over the place but the air is not cool, just muggy and has a sweaty smell because everyone playing. The parking lot is always crowded and the spots are tight. I come here to play volleyball and it's decent to play for one hour. $2 for an ID card, but the machine tends to be broken so the guy will give you a guest pass. read more

Played volleyball here for years, first pick-up(awesome fun, but no longer an option) then league play. A, BB, B(and sub groups within), Mens, Womans, Coed, there are a lot of options. 4 courts, but only 2 are decent. 2 have low ceilings if you will. 3 of 4 have short serving area. Digital Scoreboard with the wires run under the court so you feel them during play..you get the point, not ideal playing conditions, but its "good enough"...and hey..you even get t-shirts if you're league champion. Will be sporting this item out in CA. FAIRFAX SPORTSPLEX CHAMPIONS, BEAT THAT! There's also soccer for adults and kids, some friends play, and it seems popular. no the standings aren't online. Tho the schedule is, and usually updated as well. Other sportsplex's may be better ,but Dulles and Rockville are well, far. oh, there's also cheap eats and beer upstairs. By eats I mean pizza and snacks. the biggest pro is location...inside the beltway, and easily accessible off 395 and 495. Address is Springfield, but I call it Alexandria, exit 4 off 395. with the recent change in management volleyball organization got a whole lot better. read more

Very rude general manager . The hard court are horrible for futsal which they call it indoor and you are under the impression you will play in turf. Their turf games are great but the hard court is unsafe and slippery. Been playing here over ten years but will stop after we played on hard court surface and it was unsafe and brought it up to managers attention and he was rude and hang up. read more

While the staff are very nice, I want to restate that this facility takes in a large enough amount of money to make the playing conditions SAFE AND HEALTHY but refuses to do so. It seems that until someone passes out from heat exhaustion or dehydration the air temperature in the summer will continue to be cooler outside even on humid days than inside. the only place to get cool air is in the restroom. The air quality is awful and there is very minimal if any interest in fixing the problem. read more

Oh my god listen to this i have been playing soccer on this place for more than decade i go there 2 times week but tonight when i get there at midnight i get really surprised soon i'm walking inside changing room to wear my soccer uniform guess what i found lot of crap all over the bathroom floor . looks like the toilet damaged and leaking lot of water i can't even get inside so smelly and stinky i have to change outside just because i'm excited to play soccer with my friends , to be honest this place it should be closed tonight and and all the lights turn off because of the carp was all over the floor and also we can't even use bathroom if we have to ,and even that we can't even take shower , anyway after we play 1 hour the supervisor want to overcharge for 2 hours $20 each i told him why you overcharge us we usually pay $12 for 2 hours he said pay was rude and unprofessional than I reply obviously we shouldn't pay nothing since we are consumers coming here all the time and everything is damaged No bathroom , No shower , people can get sick of germs this place should not be open tonight , the funny thing about this the supervisor told us if you guys are going to complain don't come back here again . is this the way how to treat the customers right ??? this is inappropriate and unacceptable from supervisor if he was one !!! the management of fairfax sportsplex please they should looking into this thank you . read more

I play 6v6 coed soccer here and although the fans aren't enough during the summer, this is my favorite indoor soccer place to be at. Parking can be a problem but I've learned to come in earlier to find a good spot. Other then that, some beer and good company after the game is refreshing. read more

I really hate this place. I would give it 0 stars if I could. I've played and managed several adult co-ed soccer teams and even though it's very close to our house, I would rather drive 45 mins to play at Dulles than this place. The management is awful. I mean really atrocious. They do not care about you, or your questions, and they do not respond to e-mails or phone calls. The only way you can get an answer to anything is if you drive there yourself and hope someone's in the office. Although they sometimes don't know either. The fields are fine, but it is usually around 80-85 degrees in that place - try not to get a heat stroke. Also, for $755 you'd think we could get to play soccer on one of the turf fields, but no they stick us on the hard-surface volleyball court, where ankle and knee injuries are a daily occurence. Don't expect to find anything on their website - it looks like it was designed in 1997. For the money we give them you'd think you'd be able to at least register/pay online..... Seriously, don't use this place. Go play your indoor sports somewhere else. I will from now on. read more

I really wish I had read the terrible reviews of this place BEFORE we signed up for volleyball here. Where to begin.... 1.) the facility is the worst place I have ever played for volleyball. Evolution, NVVA, hell Thomas Jefferson rec center is better. The facility has NO AIR CONDITIONING AT ALL. 100 degrees outside? try 105 indoors. Also NO AIR CIRCULATION. It is just waves of aweful smell and human caused humidity. 2.)And about the heat, everybody is sweating all over the place the floors are completely soaked and not safe to play. Everyone was sliding all over the place. Ever play on a volleyball court that is soaking wet? I never had until the fairfax sportsplex. 3.) really take a close look at the ref reviews, I wish I did. Not only are they terrible at calling anything, they are extremely biased. A couple examples, we were 1 hour early practicing, 1 hour, we walked over to the game 10 minutes early to watch the other teams finish up. While warming up at the court we were scheduled to play, our opponents walked over to the ref and said we would like to serve and the ref agreed. I walked over and said, aren't we going to flip or something and the ref was like you guys weren't around so I made the call to have them serve. We were literally on the court that we were scheduled to play, in front of the referee. She then proceeded to make EVERY call against us. Ball was in, guess what it was out. One of my teammates walked over and was like did we offend you somehow? Oh and this was when she was actually paying attention and not having a conversation with someone on the sidelines. 4.) Also there is an established volleyball community so if you are new to the sportsplex prepare for an up hill climb. What do I mean by that? All the teams share talent so be prepared to play the same good players every game. One team is short players? guess what? they got all the good players from the other teams. I have never played a league where you were at a disadvantage to play with your original team. Short players? Your new so you forfeit. I should have known better when I saw that only three other teams register where as EVERY other league i have ever played had minimum 8 teams. Guess the warm welcome encourages more teams to play at the sportsplex. 5.) Also they very low nets hanging from the ceilings that make saves or passes from the back line impossible. The downsides have all been covered pretty well by now, beat up turf, sweltering conditions during the summer, highly questionable refereeing. Upsides include decent competition and closest location (aside from Gunston bubble, which only has one field) to DC/Arlington. The Sportsplex has recently undergone a series of renevations which have been mainly positive, the most prominent of which is fiberglass walls around the 6v6 fields. The new walls provide a more consistent rebound then the previous structure and a greatly improved viewing experience for spectators. My main problem with this renevation, and it's a huge problem in my opinion, is the doorframes to the field entrances. These consist of exposed steel beams, which by themselves present a unforgiving surface, but factor in the edges and you have a serious accident waiting to happen. What if someone stumbles full speed in to one of these by accident? What if they hit their head? They'd split right open. The staff has lined the beams with red tape, I don't know if that is meant as a warning to players, but I don't think it'll be much help. read more

I play in a coed 6 v 6 league. Our team will probably not play any more and will not waste our money at this place. Most refs are horrible, they let play get way out of hand, they seem to know certain teams and players and are not fair with their calls. They do not regulate players with player cards or just random people playing on every team as a "ringer." Management can only say "if we don't see it we can't do anything about it" rather than trying to fix the problem or be more proactive. We're going to find another league to play in. read more

There are three turf soccer fields and two hard courts for volleyball and soccer/futsol. Compared to Dulles Sportsplex and Rockville Sportsplex the fields are small. The two turf fields on the left, used for 6v6, are about 20 yards shorter than the other sportsplex's. The third turf field is quite small, about 50 yards max, and is primarily used for 5v5. Overall the fields and courts are in decent condition. The actual playing surfaces are in very good condition. The rest of the playing area, netting, boards, bench area, etc, seem to be neglected. Making the fields/courts "decent" as a whole. Upstairs there is snack bar that leads out to a deck that overlooks the fields. The snack bar has a big screen tv that usually is playing soccer or football. I've never tried the food and don't know that I would considering how dingy it appears. Also upstairs is the small office where teams bring payment. I know they run men, women, and coed leagues throughout the week. From what I have seen I believe the same is true for volleyball. I have seen youth soccer games being played there as well, I guess they have a youth league. In my opinion there are three big problems with the soccer leagues (can't speak for volleyball). They either never or very rarely update the results page on the website. The coed league I played just ended Feb 10th 2011 and we did not know our standing in the league until after the season was over and playoffs where about to begin. The league we played in had more teams than weeks played. Meaning that not every team played the same teams. This leads to lopsided final results based on the quality of the team(s) you did or didn't play. On top of that SOME, not all, lower division teams have to play against a team in the next division up. Another variable that leaves league play unbalanced. Lastly only one playoff game is played. If you finish third in the regular season your team plays the fourth place team for third lol. You have to finish first for second to play for the championship. If you value larger fields, cleaner conditions, more balanced and organized leagues I would recommend Dulles or Rockville Sportsplex. They promptly update results on their website, the leagues are balanced and fair, and the top four teams have a legit playoff to determine a champion. If you are like me and most of your team likes the convenience of Fairfax then it's the place for you ;-). ** one last thing. - at Dulles and Rockville you can place a one hundred dollar deposit to secure your teams spot and the rest of the team can individually pay the balance via their web page or by cell phone. Oh man, where to start. This place is in the middle of no where, parking lot is always full. You either have to park out on the street or in the back parking space full of rocks/dirt. Having a brand new 2015 BMW M5 Series its always hard for me to park my car inside the lot. The facility itself is decent size, rarely kept clean, staff no where to be found. Don't think there's anyone who actually works there other than the cashier at the snack bar. Refs are decent, fields are semi new turf, outer walls are clear. There are 3 turf fields and two court fields. What I really like about this place is that you can play several sports on there fields. They allow you to play volleyball, futsal, regular soccer, LAX, cricket etc but thats only if you rent out a field. read more

if I could give this place 0 stars I would. I play both volleyball and soccer here during the week. For soccer, the refs are a joke, they usually let the game get WAY out of hand. They clearly favor certain teams/players and hinder others. For volleyball on Thursday's, the refs usually have their faces plastered to their phones and don't pay any attention to the game. The refs are often late but don't add time for their tardiness. There is no AC and the place always smells like dead animals have been rotting away for weeks. The bathrooms are old and usually something is broken in them. The parking is horrendous and you have a chance of getting a parking ticket on the street. Management doesn't seem to care because people still play here, myself included, at least for the time being... save yourself some money, time, and frustration and join a gym instead. read more

There is no management, no communication nothing - you simply pay to have them schedule some games, provide a field and a ref. No response from commissioner Standings are not posted (except during the last week) No play offs - top two teams play in championship No shirt or trophy if you win. not even a picture. Season is just over. Really late games 11pm!!! Dont even get to play all the games on the days you signed up for. The ONLY thing Fairfax Sportsplex has going for itself is their convenient location. But given their other problems, it's not worth wasting your money for this one advantage. Go play at Dulles Sportsplex, Rockville Sportsplex, or Barcroft. Fairfax Sportsplex has terrible facilities (old fields, walls that are falling apart, absolutely no air conditioning/heat of any kind) and some of the worst referees I've ever encountered. I've been playing soccer for over 20 years, so that should hopefully put my assessment into perspective. But the worst thing about this place is the management. They do not care one bit about their customers. We had problems with refs, with schedules (the scheduling here is a disaster) and we barely received so much as a reply from management. One week they did not even send out game times, so everybody in the league missed their game. Did management care and reschedule the games? Not a chance. The breaking point came when one of our refs verbally assaulted a player on our team. He actually tried to fight our player, but our player avoided confrontation and backed away. We went to complain to the manager but guess what? He WAS the manager. So we called and emailed higher level management. After a week of no response, we received a one line email saying something to the effect of "we don't care - get over it." Our whole team was appalled and we moved to Dulles Sportsplex. The bottom line? Don't even think about wasting your money here for the sake of convenience. You will regret it, like me and my entire team did. Do yourself a favor and play elsewhere read more

I am really surprised to see how bad management can be in places like this one, especially with kids around. The Travel soccer manager (Hugo) has NO people skills, and is very unprofessional. They rarely do what they say they would.The scores, schedules are never on time They mix youth ages as they please. EX: my U9 team lost in a final against a U10 team...go figure. When confronted the manager (Hugo) had no responses and the kids and parents are still trying to figure this out. Wow, I've read all the reviews to date on the Sportplex. I have a fairly more upbeat and positive experience than the others. My son has been playing here for YEARS. Climate control is fine, at least for winter soccer which is what we play. The price is acceptable. The administrative staff is responsive when needed. Games start on time. Games end on time. The fields are fine. The game is fast. The kids have fun. This is why we've been coming here for 7 years or so. If it was a bad experience, we would not still be coming to the place. The place even has a snackbar and TV, with upstairs seating overlooking the fields. Or if you want to watch a game up close, you can usually find a good spot. read more

Pros: None Cons: 1. Filthy 2. Refs play in the leagues they ref, and it shows when they are reffing for their friends teams 3. Not safe. They redid their smaller turf field, and they skimped there the glass meets the boards. They have jagged pieces of wood sticking out, and i along with others have cut ourselves. They did a halfa_s job fixing up the fields. 4. The turf is trashed, and they rarely fix it. 5. Don't go into the mens bathroom. The Health Department should really check this place out. 6. They have double booked multiple games on the same field. They then want to give us makeup games that are at 11:00pm at night! I don't bring my children there because of hoe filthy the place is. They have also had groups physically fighting in the parking lot. If this place had some real management, they could make a killing. They are just cheap. read more

The refs make almost no calls because they're basically just looking to stand there for an hour, get paid, and then go home. I've seen players curse out the refs and they just ignore it. I have also seen players threaten to kill other players, which was also ignored. All in all, it is extremely expensive for basically a cruddy field with a roof over it. It's also located in the back of an industrial park so women should not walk out to their cars unattended. read more
