Stopped by here while traveling in DC since the crowds there can be overwhelming. It was a warm Saturday toward the end of March, but it was not crowded at all. We did a round of mini golf, which was nice. The course is mostly well maintained, though one of the holes near the end could use some work since it is a giant pit, with some cobblestone rocks acting as steps that lead down to the hole. It was a little difficult to maneuver, and I just ended up having to get one of my younger brothers to get my ball for me. Most of the holes were well down and the place had a nice grass and water feature aesthetic. Definitely something we wanted in the city. We then admired the obstacle course because it looked awesome. Climbing across surfboards dangling in the sky, bright colors. It looked awesome. We opted not to try it out this time though. We then went for a little walk on a trail. They aren't very well marked, the signs look like someone keeps knocking them down, and all of the trails sort of overlap and are visible from the others since it is literally just a little acre-ish area in the middle of the city. There was also an overflowing trash can that smelled awful, next to someone's abandoned lawn chair on the trail, but nothing a quick cleanup of the area can't fix. It is rather warm being down in a sort of gully, so I would love to see it again when all the trees are green, hopefully that would provide some nice shade. We then went to the playground and it was really nice and well-maintained, and I had to use the restroom which was IMMACULATE. This was by far the nicest playground bathroom I have ever been in, and nicer than most store and restaurant restrooms I have been in. There is also a waterpark that wasn't open yet for the season, and a large blue building that serves as the entrance to the water park, and I do wish that it had a large sign that said something to the effect of "Restrooms are in here, even when the waterpark isn't open" since we were trying to find a restroom for my 5 year old nephew after we had left the playground bathroom, and assumed that the swim building was closed, so we ran him across the parking lot to the obstacle course building assuming it would be in there, and were a little worried when we had to run him across the street when we learned it was in the blue swim building. Overall, this was a really lovely and completely unexpected outing in the middle of a crowded city. This will very likely be on our itinerary next time we have to kill time in DC. read more

I've always liked coming here. I come here for the batting cages, which are pretty good. I think there about 10 that throw different speeds. The fastest is either 60-65mph or 70-75; I don't think there's an 80-85 like a lot of places have. They have bats and helmets you can use. The helmets have a wire grillwork covering your face, and while I usually find this very distracting, for some reason I don't think it's so bad here. Of course, you're welcome to bring and use your own helmet and bat. You can get 3 tokens for $5, and each token gets you 14 pitches. In addition to the batting cage, they have an obstacle course that's like 3 stories tall that looks awesome. I haven't done it but it looks cool. They said it takes like 2 hours and it costs adults $50. There's also a pool here. Overall, it's a good place to have some fun. read more

My wife and I stopped by Upton Hill for a mini golf date. Their mini golf is a solid value. At $7 a person (with discounts for ages 55+ and 12-, for bulk tickets, and for swimmers from their pool, etc.), it's pretty affordable. The course isn't extravagant, but is well maintained and has some very fun holes. The environment is pretty with nice views. And, it had the perfect volume of business, where there were people ahead of us and behind us (so, it didn't feel like a ghost town) but where we had several holes between us and the people ahead of us and behind us, so we didn't feel like we had to rush or worry about waits at all. They had a local teen working the booth for the course. She was polite and competent. We didn't use the other parts of the park, but they all looked pretty nice and we'll be happy to try them in the future. read more

Pretty nice park. Pool fun, miniature golf, batting cages, and trails. There is a lot to do here. My son enjoyed it more than I did. Costs were higher than I expected. Also it is always crowded. Arlington County is only 24 square miles or so, and high population density. This is family friendly. Parking can be a challenge. If you're looking for a place, with plenty to do this could work. Yet it's personal taste, but I prefer quieter and more laid back. It still gets my recommendation. If your kids are driving you bonkers, this could be a spot to roll to. read more

My mom and I took my 8 month old son to Ocean Dunes on a weekday. He was free and it cost around $13 for the two of us. it wasn't too crowded On this particular day. They have a separated kiddo pool and a separate adult pool, which is nice. The main pool has a popular water slide and then there is also a spray area. We stayed in the kiddie area most of the time. Without the water slide like Pirates Cove, there's not much to do in here. There is lots of shade in the kid area and plenty of seating. Also, they say you can't bring in food but we did with no problem. I like Pirates Cove better although this park is closer. I'd still return here in the future and I'm excited to check out the mini golf course in the coming months! read more

This is generally a pretty fun place for the family to visit. Not your normal "park", instead there's family friendly activities: a community pool/water park, 18-hole miniature golf, batting cages and (the best) Upton Climb - an aerial rope-climbing and obstacle course. All the activities have prices but for the most part they are quite reasonable. There's a basic snack bar at the pool with low prices and decent food for a snack bar. The golf course is well designed and a lot of fun. Great for all ages and open a good chunk of the year. The pool - open Memorial Day through Labor Day, is actually several pools along with two huge water slides and a play area for the kids. It's usually quite full but the fact that the main pool is shallow (4.5 feet at the deepest spot) and lots of lifeguards, you'll feel pretty safe about letting the kids go run around. Climb is by far the best. It's slightly pricey but totally worth it. Just look it up. It's very well run, very well designed, and great each time. Best to go when it is cloudy out though - the sun will get you. Take your time and enjoy it...2 hours is longer than you realize. I've now been 3x and will keep going. read more

I used to come here as a kid, so this place makes me SUPER nostalgic!!! Either my uncles would generously take some of us five kids here (or all if they felt brave) for mini golf, or my dad would take my brothers to the batting cage, and I would watch and cheer them on! Little did I know that would come in handy one day as a college cheerleader... I digress. So needless to say, Upton Park holds a special place in my heart and I encourage kids (and kids at heart) to try a round of mini golf or a round of baseball. I do have to say I was always too chicken to ever try out the batting cage myself because balls flying at me at 60mph was not my idea of fun! Besides, I knew I probably wouldn't be able to hit any of them??? Just not my strong suit!! Anyways, the mini golf is really where it's at, along with the impressive pool/water park-like area. I can really only speak to the mini golf area as that is all I have actively participated in. The mini golf course is cute and hasn't changed in 20+ years (hearts hearts hearts!). It doesn't take more than an hour to complete (and that's generous - I went recently and it took about half an hour). I highly recommend it for a date, or a friends or family outing, especially when ready for a break from technology! read more

Came here for an impromptu mini-golf game this past Saturday morning. We arrived at about 11:15 and there were several other families playing, but it wasn't too crowded. The cost was $5 for kids younger than 12 and $6 for adults, which seemed pretty reasonable. It was a standard 18-hole golf range. Most of the holes weren't very exciting, but there was some pretty landscaping (waterfalls, hills, creeks) that added aesthetically to the experience. Overall, the kids had a good time. I'm sure we'll be back again. Would also come back to check out the water park. read more

Stopped by for a round of putt putt and while we had fun, the conditions are really poor. Wrinkled carpet that most likely was laid in the 90's, dried "streams", raised holes, and lots of weeds and old grass strewn across some of the holes. I should think wealthy Arlington County could invest adequate resources to improve the quality of this experience. Had fun, but sad conditions. read more

FAN-tastic!! What a water park! Oh, yeah, and mini-golf too...but whatever. WATERSLIDES!!! SPRAYGROUND!!! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Soooo.... I recently move to the city of Arlington and my man says to me, hey babe--you wanna go to the pool? I went the other day and it was awesome! Well, let's see: 90+ degree heat mixed with DC humidity = a big fat YES! But I was worried....these municipal pools usually make you show an ID to prove you are a resident...I don't have my official paperwork as yet, so I ask him and ask about ID. He pauses for a moment and then says, um well--they didn't ask me for any when I went. Groovy! Let's go! On our way there (We walked. UP hill. BOTH ways. Through the snow--wait, no, that's not right... Through the scorching heat! 45 minutes of panting sweaty workout--and not as much fun as panting sweaty workouts normally are!) he mentions something about the admission fee possibly including the putt putt fees. Admission??? WHAT? To a MUNICIPAL pool??? !!! (I scoffed heartily and vociferously between panting my way up yet another hill) I am getting a bit skeptical about the whole thing, but he's really into it so....okay, I trust his judgment--and hey, we are halfway there already. (He hasn't steared me wrong really, except for that horrid movie Legion, boy did THAT suck!) He mentions there is a water slide in an attempt to stoke the fires of my obviously waning passion about the whole thing (and to get me to move a little bit faster up the hill I'm sure, my stamina was flagging horrifically by now, but what can I say--I'm a delicate flower!) Hmmm, that's cool, I say. Picturing in my mind a tiny little pool slide that splooshes you harmlessly into the deep end of the pool. But then he adds: But there is no diving. The pool isn't deep enough for that. WELL! Harumph and piddly-tosh, what sort of self respecting pool doesn't allow diving???? Needless to say, when we walked up and then in to the pool area, I realized that "pool" is a severe insult to a kick-ass waterpark for all ages!!! TWO rockin' waterslides 20 feet high!!! One open and one a closed (and eerily dark!) tube!!!!! Totally awesome!!!! A lap pool. (Exciting for some, for me....meh...I'm not a big swimmer. But it sure is purdy) A large pool (deepest is 4 and a half feet though, boo) for playing in. A kiddie pool with a shaded bit over it. And the most awesomest, rockinest, kick-assinest, "Spray ground" you have ever played in! A giant bucket (and I mean giant, this thing is almost the size of a smartcar) fills up and then dumps on happy people below, there is a spray gun, a mini slide, 3 or 4 spouting gushing pouring streams of water to drench you and make you squeal with delight, and more! Plus, the sprayground water is much cooler than the pool water and on a hot hot hot hot nasty sticky day like we have been having--damn, not much feels better than standing under a cool stream of gushing water! Oh. Yeah, and did I mention there was putt putt too? I notice all the other reviews seem to focus on the putt putt and not on the sweet water park, but whatever...if your focus is beating the heat-then hit the pool! Putt putt is only $3.50 with your pool admission, and it is a pretty cool little (well, actually pretty big) course, though quite dry as other folks have mentioned. One particularly cool thing we saw while putt putting was a mama duck and her two little ducklings in the one bit of water that WAS there. They were about lost in the jungle of lily pads that have taken over the pond, but boy oh boy were they cute! Lots of different ball colors, 4 different putter lengths, and some pretty sweet holes--it is a nice little putt putt course. And that is coming from a girl who recently lived on the Oceanfront and was surrounded by like 8 different wild putt putt courses! All in all--I was superbly happy with this place--one note though, if you can make it there on a weekday during the day--do so--it is super crowded on the weekends! But still way fun! Oh, and the bonus??? If you buy a season pass--it gets you into FOUR different water parks in NoVA!!! I want to try Great Waves in Alexandria next, it looks awesome! read more

Upton Hill offers an all facilities pass for $12 that gets you unlimited mini golf, batting cages and pool access which is a great deal. This is a very family friendly park, and the parking lot is right next to the entrance of everything. This made it very easy to do all the activities but leave things in the car. The concession stand is very reasonable priced, and employees are friendly. The mini golf course was challenging, so it's a great option for adults even if you don't have little kids with you. read more

The slow pitch softball machine we used had a few reloading issues but the young man (Harry) who was working was very helpful and quick about getting it going. He also no question gave us another token when a full round didn't pitch. Five stars to Harry! Overall a fun experience. read more

At the risk of sounding cliche - this place has 'family fun' all over it. We headed out to the park in search of batting cages a little shade on this toasty Sunday. The water park was closed, but the putt-putt was in full force and the batting cages were quite accessible. $1 for 14 pitches and you'll get 6 tokens for $5. Everything seems to be in great working order and just a sense of calm over the whole grounds. Very relaxing place to spend an afternoon picnic or a light hike in the woods. read more

Came here on a Saturday with my sister. We had a pretty good time, considering we couldn't get chairs until later in the day. This park is really for kids more than adults, the deepest part of the pool is 5ft deep. They do have an awesome set of slides and a water house with a huge bucket that fills up with water until it empties out and splashes anyone in it's path. They do have a pretty sweet concession stand with funnel cake! They also have mini golf, we didn't get a chance to play but it looked like people were enjoying it. Drawbacks would have to be not enough chairs and you aren't allowed to bring in outside food or drinks. Would probably come back, hopefully not on a Saturday again. read more

I haven't been back to Upton in over 10 years and it seems like they did a little bit of remodeling. The course was clean and wasn't busy at all. I think most of the visitors were at the waterpark. The course was simple and easier than other courses but still a lot of fun. Its a great place to take the family and their prices are reasonable. If you go to the waterpark you also get a discount. They also have batting cages across the parking lot but we did not have time to take a few swings. read more

There are two slides, a splash pad with several features, a wading pool for little ones, a big pool for general foolishness and a lap pool for those who actually want to swim. It's pretty clean. The bathrooms are a little gooey & dirty, but I think that's kinda the norm at water parks. 18-hole mini golf with nice features. Well worth the nominal price and not too crowded on a sweltering Thursday afternoon. read more

A water park (that I haven't partaken of), a batting cage, and a mini golf course? You can't go wrong with that combination. The batting cages - pretty nice. They have helmets for you. However, one time I went, about 15 minutes before closing, the machines got jammed. So, they were sweet enough to walk around giving sad batters a few coins to come back next time. That was a nice gesture. The mini-golf. Pretty good as northern Virginia (mini) gold courses go. In particular, the course is challenging, but not too challenging that would make a kid sad. My only grip is that the water features weren't on for some reason the last time I went. It left little muddy puddles, but the greenery, and wild life (imagine birds and bunnies hopping around) really set a nice, picturesque scene. read more

Ocean Dunes Waterpark is a hidden gem in Northern Virginia. I was surprised to discover this waterpark in Arlington tucked into a neighborhood, but it is really a sweet spot to take the kids during the summer. The pools are kept clean and the lifeguards are attentive. My one issue seems to be the same as others where I feel that the changing rooms could definitely use some more attention. However, we love this pool enough to host a birthday for my children, which they loved so much that they've requested to have it there again. This place sucks, it's crowded, there is bugs everywhere, the women's restroom is disgusting it looks like it has never been cleaned. The service is awful, the employees are completely useless. I tried to pay with my card but the swiper was broken and I asked to pay with my chip but they are so broke and unprepared they don't even have a chip reader. The pool was freezing cold and because they are such greedy people they wont even install a heater. Don't even get me started on the prices 11$ for a person is ridiculous. ***3.5 Stars*** This review is for the mini golf specifically, but I must say that I was really impressed with the facilities and I had no idea this place was even here. That pool looked like the pool mecca for kids - lots of slides and fun things to do. Plus, they had batting cages! AWESOME! So I had a date that was actually creative beyond the "let's grab drinks" scenario and he suggested mini golf. I'll admit that I was a little nervous for two reasons: 1) I hadn't mini-golfed in years and; 2) I tend to get a little pissy when I can't get that stupid ball into the stupid hole and instead it goes into the STUPID water hazard. Whoa - slow down. Back to the review. Overall, I was more impressed at the mini-golf suggestion than I was afraid of my shortcomings with the mini-golf and jumped on board. It is TOTALLY awesome that this park is here. The mini-golf itself wasn't overly challenging, but it was fun. I guess I'm normally used to bright colors and flashing things and moving parts, so in that respect, Upton Hill is lacking. The course was a little unkempt, but I'll chalk that up to the recent storms. But the most disappointing part of it all is that none of the water hazards had water in them! WTF is up with that??? I really think this little course would be really pretty if they had the water going. The staff guys that work here are young kids, but they were pleasant and helpful, and seemed to enjoy working there. They even let us start on the back 9 first since there was a pile up at hole #2. For some inexpensive entertainment that is outside the norm, check out the Upton Hill mini-golf. It's $6 per person - that won't break anyone's bank. Next time, I'm coming back for the batting cages. Between Arlington and Fairfax, at the intersection of Patrick Henry Drive and Wilson Boulevard, exists a great park with a variety of activities available. This is a great place for an active-type date (I had one here). First you can hit some balls in the batting cage (either softball or hardball) and then go on to play a round of miniature golf (and they claim to have one of the longest mini golf holes in the world). Take a dip to cool off; they have a community swimming pool complex that includes 4 different pools. The park also has a nice walking trail and place to picnic (with tables). I've even spotted people playing horseshoes. The park authorities keep the park REALLY clean and the mini golf course is also kept up really well. read more

THE POOL I swim here a lot. It's a nice, clean pool, but yes, public. That means more than your usual amount of urine, I think. Never seen any floaters. The season pass is a steal if you visit often. It's ~$80, which pays itself after 10 visits (math: adult price is $8). I went down their water slides once or twice, but haven't admitted it until now. They're pretty fun. Your kids will love them. I've never spent any time in the GIANT BUCKET FULL OF WATER GETTING DUMPED ON YOUR HEAD section of the park, but it also looks pretty enjoyable. At the very least, it's enjoyable to watch kids get wrecked by it. Two pools plus a kiddie. The lap pool is 25M with a handful of lanes. Finding a spot (as long as you're OK with sharing a lane) is usually no problem. Despite signage, kids and adults like to think the outside lanes are private play areas, but if you hop in and start swimming, they'll move and/or the lifeguards will tell them to GTFO. The main/open/play pool is a rectangle. I've never gotten in it, but despite being larger than the lap pool, I hear it's a little bit warmer. The kiddie pool is the smallest of the three, has ample shade (over the water even, I think), but is somehow the warmest of the three. I avoid it. This place does get packed. If you require shade and a lounge chair, you need to plan to stalk folks who are about to leave or show up at off hours. -- THE REST There are batting cages that look pretty well-maintained. At the very least, they're always in use. The mini golf is decent, but not outstanding. The grounds feature a few picnic shelters, some lackluster and short trails, and a pretty beat playground. The picnic shelters have signs saying you can call ahead to reserve, but you'd best not bring any booze or they'll kick ALL OF Y'ALL out. read more

So yes, they have the longest mini golf hole in the world, but they also have the driest! Pipe over some of that water from the gigantic slides and make this place look more like a golf course than a desert! Needless to say, this place is not bad. It's about $85 for a seasonal pass (bought it in July so will be good for the beginning of next summer). It's pretty crowded with families and tough to get a chair, but it's not bad. Okay my little yelpers, I found this place out on a whim when I was stressing out trying to find a place for my little critter to play. Low and behold, I found this jewel. It is very well shaded the park that is. Very earthy and concealed for play. I would say a great age range is 3 to 7 years for the park. But WAIT! Also on the scene is a water park, Score! Floatation devices are not allowed but they do have lifeguard vest available. Swimming classes are also available and the pool has 3 separate area for small kids (very shallow), toddlers (2ft-4ft) and 4-5 swim lanes (41/2 ft) for 16 years and up. For children above 42 inches the fee is $8-9. There is also an awesome waterfall pelican splash zone. The food court is not that great so do eat prior to coming. The facility seems to be ran by teenagers and we all know how they can be. I mean I was one only awhile ago, lol.... Also attached is a mini-golf course but I did not venture there. OKay so Family Fun do stick to ages infant to 14. I can go on but do check it out for yourself. read more

We cruised out here from DC just to check it out this past weekend. The place was mobbed, but no more crowded than any of the other good pools in DC. Unfortunately, unlike DC, this places charges money - both to Virginia residents and DC residents. So for that reason alone it's a bit of a bummer. However, there are many great attractions. There are dual water slides that most kids love. There is a lap pool with lane lines. And there is lots of spray, etc that small children enjoy. Although I am glad this place has a snack bar and picnic area, the food is crappy so I don't suggest that as an option. Also, the locker room is very cramped and a little grimy. There are only 5 showers in the men's room. read more

They have quite a park with most ammenities being seasonal. Today we went for mini golf. The course boasts one of the longest mini golf holes in the world. The hole was long, but nothing fabulous. The course was pretty well maintained. Sadly none of the water was running so some of the hole lacked in "wow" because of that. The holes are pretty simple, nothing real trickey about them. In fact, between three of us, we managed about 8 hole in ones. The grounds were nicely kept and most of the holes were free of debris. It was a nice simple course if you stink at mini golf or want to take the little ones. read more

We were at this place today with 3 kids! Pool is clear and stuff is very nice, but it is impossible to eat that burgers or hot dogs which is there!!!!! For that moment they had no pizza and we bought burgers and hot dogs the picture in the menu of these food is absolutely different from reality that you have on your plate!!! In one word it is TERRIBLE !!!!!!! I wrote these just because i think when you spending time in the water kids are very hungry and you are not allowed to bring your food inside so they force you to buy and eat what they sell!!!!
