It's a county facility, so you're not going to get high end weight lifting equipment. On a plus note, nice treadmills. My apologies on not knowing what to call them, but the ones with the serrated like floor are solid. The pool and basketball courts are the best feature. Laps as we all know, are the top exercise of all. A friendly staff too! It definitely could use some newer equipment. The $10 per adult county rate, is I have to say a bit expensive. They do have plans though, and for my son it was only $6.50. That's better and to the facility's credit, there are a lot of activities here. They have a skate park and a nearby trail. This works and I'm happy it's available.

What a great Rec Center. The pool is top shelf. The center has lots of activity and exercise choices. It is also very accessible and has much to offer those who need ADA type accommodations. I went for a swim meet to watch my son. They have ADA seating that is awesome and the staff is so helpful. They make you glad that you asked. Really good service.

Ask the Community - Audrey Moore RECenter

Can we practice volleyball here?

Yes, if you don't mind walleyball. They do have a big court where you can play basketball & they set up gymnastics so maybe you could do regular volleyball there. I would call and ask to be sure.

Large pool and decent weight room, lots of well-maintained outdoor basketball courts with nets, and a nice turf outdoor soccer field with goals/nets.

Why is there not a zero stars option? I would rate this place zero stars. The name of this place…read morehas changed a number of times, but no improvements have been made. This place is extremely outdated and dirty. It's just disgusting. You walk in to find the carpeting of the steps extremely worn down and peeling off at the sides, as it is everywhere else in the building. You walk in to see a big window overseeing the room of inflatables. This facility hosts parties and sports events. We were there for a birthday party and the party rooms are downstairs. To get to the party rooms, you walk down the stairs to a filthy hallway with disgusting turf carpeting and muggy air. I'm sure this facility has a long list of health violations. List of cons: - The restrooms are located inside of grungy looking locker rooms, so you pose the risk of having your child seeing people changing - There is no supervision in the inflatables room. Parents are responsible for their own kids - There is no system to ensure that kids leave with their parents. Anyone can walk out with your kids - My kid wandered into the sporting facility area of the lower level and fell into a rain puddle that resulted from a leaky ceiling - There are random puddles in the inflatables room from leaky ceilings (read: MOLD!) - The air in the lower level can be quite muggy during warmer months of the year (read: MOLD!) - There were buckets catching the leaking water from the ceiling at various places of the facility (I saw them on two separate visits) - Outdoor parking can be limited, depending on what other events are being held there on the same day List of pros: - No time limitation (but why would you want to stay here?) - I assume that it's cheaper here - Outside food is permitted for parties hosted here Although I hate this place, kids don't seem bothered by the filthiness of this place and seem to have a lot of fun.

Pros: Kids love it and its a lot of fun for them…read more Cons: This is more for the parents who care about these details. Building super outdated. There is ZERO staff supervision. (I've asked the "manager" and I get the same answer each time that other staff are helping host birthday parties) There are children who run up the slides and bounce/jump from one inflatable to the next over toppling other children. There are no rules its all free game. Reason why I come back to this place is because of the price, open play all the time and my child has fun. We're in there 1 hour max. I go over safety with my child and I watch her follow them. (We've gone to pump it up many times and so those are the "rules" we go by) The way I view this place is as if I was taking my child to a public playground where other parents are responsible for their own children which we ALL know how that can be. If your pondering about going I would give it a chance and see for yourself. I personally wouldn't take a child 0-3 maybe even 4. One last thing the staff at the front desk are "high school-ish" but my first time encounter one gal was very helpful and then the other times it's in between.

I used to belong to this pool but we left and joined another local pool. On paper, this pool…read morechecked off a lot of boxes that I was looking for; semi-walking distance, sports teams, community spot, activities, place to hold functions, snack bar, etc. So why the three stars??? it may even be too many. For starters, it is HEAVILY shaded which in turn creates a ripple effect of cold water, cold kids, cold adults, and lots of mosquitoes. When my son was really young we would go in the afternoon and there was hardly ever anyone there and come evening time forget about it with the water temp, brrrrrr, & the mosquito fest!!! We also held one of his bday parties here and rented the pavilion and we had some issues with the pavilion lights not working & the board member that was "helping" us was a jerk about it and rather rude to us. We paid to rent the pavilion with lights & all, no thank you for your attitude! Like most pools do, they have tennis courts, a playground, a Pavillion, Friday Food Trucks (non-pool members can enjoy because they are in the parking lot), float nights, swim/dive teams, and many other events. But like I said, pretty much every pool has these amenities; the other two neighborhood pools, SHRA & SHBR have all of this as does my current pool, AS&T (Annandale Swim & Tennis) but they all have SUN... yes, fun in the sun! This pool also requires all members, regardless of how you do your pool (sports teams & functions or not), to do a co-op of "working" or pay for your volunteer time required. My current pool does not unless you are on the sports teams. It is located on a beautiful piece of property but sadly that's where it ends.

Oh my goshhhh the staff is sooooo nice! I went this evening to look at the Broyhill Rec Center…read morebecause I'm looking for a pool to join. The front desk guy who greeted me was super nice! He let me look around and told me about the property. He said he really liked working there and how great the members were. Driving up it all looks so lovely. Everything was clean and there was tons of seating. I ended up having a few more questions and a girl came and helped me. Margaret mentioned she was only subbing today but she was an absolute gem with info about the pool, the Atlantic staff and other pools in the area. She made such a great impression and my only reason for possibly not joining is that the trees are beautiful but block the sun quite a bit and I'm looking to join a pool for the exact purpose of being in the sun... lots of sun.
