I've been on a search for great Chicago- based coffee roasters and Factotum hit the spot. I shared a pour over, mocha, and cortado and each were excellent. I do a daily pour over at home and plan to come back for some beans they sell- it's hard to find a great light roast coffee at other shops in the city. The space is a bit weird- industrial and not very cozy. I wouldn't come here to get some work done or a first date, but it's fine as a coffee shop to sit down, has plenty of seating spaces inside. Kind of like a food court if that makes sense. Barista was very nice and knew her coffees very well. read more

This spot is tucked inside a large, creative studio space. A super cool and unique setting. The coffee was great with interesting flavors like Coquito. I tried one of their seasonal drinks, a carrot cake latte and it really did taste just like carrot cake. The service was good and overall I'd definitely come back. Fantastic location for a cute cafe. Its in the middle of this quirky old industrial building containing tons of artsy shops, in this beautiful atrium room with large skylights, lots of fun decor. I enjoyed my cortado thoroughly, I would come back. read more

This is a solid 4 . A limited menu, no baked goods but a solid number of options. I do hope they get some Croissants or local Baked goods in the future. I ordered a plain latte and my husband got the coquito. There's a spiciness to this coffee that comes through at first sip and then it dissipates. I appreciated the latte art in my drink. Not sure If the roast is a lighter or medium roast but expect a lighter mouthfeel on this coffee. My husband's drink was, in true coquito form, quite coconut forward. It was very good though I prefer a less sweet drink. He is a fan of more sweet iced drinks and he enjoyed it. The space is in a warehouse in Hermosa. There's artist spaces which I don't think are open to the public but still cool to be around. The actual cafe is small and reminiscent of a cafeteria style or communal coworking space setting. Being in an industrial setting, you will get cold. Bring a sweater! Depending on the time, you'll either be listening to a cool chill music or the place next door will be testing their speakers so bring headphones too. read more

I visited here after I saw a video on social media promoting the cafe for remote work space. It's a coffee stall inside of an industrial building with various other businesses. I ordered the Creeper drink and I found a table with access to an outlet so I could work. The drink was okay - it's matcha with a light blueberry flavor. As I was working, I saw more people started coming in. There is wifi available but heads up, there is no food or snacks for purchase. I also ordered a coquito latte for myself and a coquito cold brew for my husband before I left. The latte is delicious and topped with what looked like a toasted coconut topping. I hope to go back but they close at 2pm which isn't ideal. read more

This coffee stand was such a cool find! It looks like this warehouse is a shared space for several businesses/ offices. There is lots of space to sit down and even work from after you get your drinks. The baristas were very friendly and answered all of our questions. The matcha I got was so delicious, it was so smooth and with the little vanilla syrup I requested, it was top-notch! Excited to go back and work from this super cool space. read more

Stopped by the recently opened Factotum Coffee located in 4200 Workspace. The lovely barista mentioned Factotum has been roasting beans for 3 years and opened a cafe within the past month, September 2023. My latte was made quickly and delicious! There was plenty of seating although I spent most of my time walking throughout the workspace peering into the different offices that include perfume making, custom signs and a distillery. Roasted: cute coffee shop in a creative arts space. Small walk up shop with seating through out the entire building. Very quiet for a Sunday morning. They have been roasting for years but the shop is newer. They rotate their espresso weekly and this week was Papa New Guinea but roasted as a light roast. PNG is typically a dark roast and the vegetation of the light roast really came through not making it a very smooth espresso. They only carry oat milk and whole milk and have 3 limited flavors. The latte art was nice but the overall flavor just wasn't what I like in a full bodied espresso. If you like your espresso tasting like green beans - then try it out but I prefer a rich chocolatey espresso. We did tell the barista we would be sitting here but still got our drinks in paper cups even though the bar was full of for here cups. Barista was knowledgeable but not somewhere I would come back to. Unroasted: I love the unique space of this hidden coffee shop. The coop space is absolutely stunning with the natural light coming in. The barista was absolutely perfect with her attentive attitude and immense knowledge of coffee. The menu is small and not very robust with no sugar free options. The barista did a good job with the art. I am not a fan of light roast so didn't know what to expect. The espresso was very green and does not pair right with my taste buds. I like my latte to have rich bold nutty, chocolate flavors and all I get is earthy green bean vibes. Quick one - we went to this cafe, cool building (super cool) and there is a sign with prices (shows up in photos here) - that clearly says Latte $4 - so walked up and ordered. After it was made, the price that was rung up was just under $6. I asked why it wasn't the posted price and the woman said it was because the posted price is only for a small. She couldn't have asked what size I wanted? They have one sign with prices and it does not say small. Paid, tipped, enjoyed, but that seems scammy. read more

Went in for an iced americano recently. They only carry oat milk as a non-dairy option. Wish I had the chance to try their matcha latte. Definitely recommend their espresso. The barista was super kind as well! :) read more
