The savoury waffles were topped with avocado, cheese, sundried tomatoes and sriracha sauce. The waffles themselves were light and airy while the toppings were fresh. I had never had anything like it before, and will definitely order it again when I'm in the neighbourhood. It is not however substantial enough to be a meal in itself. The lentil soup was incredible. The spices melded together perfectly to create a rich, hearty flavour. It reminded me of dal makhani (Indian cuisine) more than Middle Eastern style lentil soup. Service was quick. The staff were not overly friendly, but were totally unpretentious. The cafe was cozy and the restroom was clean. Overall, I recommend a visit here if you are in the Oak Park area and want to pick up something quick and light.

I've read numerous reviews raving about how delicious the empanadas are here. They're just ok. They fill the belly. They're nothing to write home about. I truly feel as if the empanadas have been "watered down" to suit the local clientele. Empanadas, truly awesome, delicious empanadas, are savory and seasoned beautifully. Then again, I'm not from Brazil. Maybe this is how empanadas taste in Brazil. If so, bravo, but I'm not paying $4.75 for one. But, the food in a nutshell: the guava and cheese have more cheese than guava. The chicken in the chicken empanada was chewy, but the taste was good. The cheese bread I can get from Trader Joe's - tastes the same and I don't have to wait 20 minutes.

As much as the displayed baked goods look very tasty, I had their quiche of the day which was ham and guyere for lunch. It took about 12 minutes for the quiche, but I have to admit it was one of the better quiches that I have had. The quiche was filled with sliced ham which is different than most places that would use ham bits. The quiche was extra fluffy, almost omelet-like, with guyere cheese and was absolutely delicious. The crust was definitely homemade from the adjacent storefront and absolutely perfect. The only disappointment was that the quiche did not come with any side, be it a small salad or even one of their cookies. Split Milk is a wonderful neighborhood find.
