Drove by here several times but haven't stopped in, the place looks massive and cool from the outside. My husband and I strolled over on a Sunday morning to check it out and the place was pleasantly buzzing. While waiting to place our order I scoped out the pastry / treats selection and was tempted by the glazed banana bread. We ordered a drip coffee and iced dirty chai. Both drinks came out quickly and with a chocolate square surprise! The banana bread paired wonderfully with the chai and was actually quite filling for the size. Can't wait to come back, think this is now our top neighborhood coffee shop!

Excellent coffee! Bold and flavorful! The barista did a fabulous job making my latte. Oftentimes at cafes you find just foamy bubbles but here they know how to steam and blend plant based milks as well as create latte art. It has an industrial decor but you can get cozy in their seating area. I can't wait to go back!

Really cool spot in a big warehouse type of building in Logan square! I loved that they have machinery that makes the coffee here at this location. This spot also offers plenty of work space for people who want to bring in their laptop. The coffee menu is straight forward and there's options for snacks and food. I had a simple iced coffee with sugar free vanilla and it was great. You can also scoop your own bag of coffee beans and take it for home as well. Cool spot with great drinks overall!

My sister went here today and got me a coffee to go! I just asked her to get me any kind of sun seasonal cold brew drink or just a plain cold brew! They had a cherry San pellegrino almond cold brew, but they said they were out of cherry so they made it with lemon instead. Which was great because I love lemon! It was super refreshing but I wished that it had a little less of the sparkling water in it. It was really good though and I would get a coffee from here again next time I'm in town!

A pretty cool location with plenty of seating, both inside and outside. They also roast their coffee here as half of the space is allocated to the machinery. It has this interesting fishbowl area with outlets then seating around it. The staff was friendly and helped explain some of their specialty drinks, but I ended up going with the Caffè Latte iced which was good.

Cafe Umbria is serious about their coffee! Great interior space with plenty of seating. They have a section dedicated to their coffee beans which is really awesome. Friendly staff with very good lattes! Pro Tip: when you receive your coffee they also give you a cafe Umbria chocolate. Nice touch!

Came here for a quick cup of coffee. The building is huge and very spacious inside. The staff was very friendly and it didn't take long to get our coffee. My wife ordered their Cappuccino Al Cacao and I ordered their Caffe Marocchino. Both were pretty good. It tasted very similar to a mocha but a little bit stronger. Wouldn't hesitate returning.

I've driven by here many times and didn't even know it was a coffee shop! It's pretty cool inside, lots of bold colors and industrial ish design. There's free street parking, free wifi, and a free piece of chocolate with your drink. I had the honey oat milk latte which came out very quickly and was brought to me at the table. I loved the little glass cube with lots of seating which has outlets all along the floor! Also neat to see their coffee bean machines.

Overall Thoughts: I liked the vibes of this spot-- very industrial, yet comfortable. The coffee menu is expansive and a bit intimidating at first, but you can't really go wrong and nothing is too expensive. I ordered a Niccoiola Freddo, which I found pretty tasty, frothy, and had a nice balance of sweetness. I also tried a cherry danish, which I thought was just okay-- not as good as I was hoping. -- Price (relative to peers): 4.3/5 Drinks/Food: 4.3/5 Ambience: 4.7/5 Service: 4.7/5 Overall Value: 4.3/5

Had a great takeout experience! Staff was kind and friendly when I asked them to explain the pastries in the window. Had a couple customers coming in and out on a Wednesday morning before work. Cool interior where you can see coffee beans being processed. Decent amount of seating indoors, a few outside. I ordered brewed coffee and it tasted fine, as expected. The almond croissant was MASSIVE. It had beautiful layers and an ample amount of almond paste. I just wish there wasn't so much powdered sugar on top. Great coffee shop in the neighborhood and would return!

Love this coffee spot! The interior is very spacious and the coffee is amazing - every single time. The chocolate on top makes it even more special.

Wanted to love it but.... Poorly mixed matcha & it tasted like straight oat milk. Specifically had asked for more concentrated too lol. And this was somehow $9.50??? Will not be returning :(

It's a new experience to be able to sit beside the coffee roaster machines in an industrial cafe setup.

Great local coffee - staff super friendly! There's a nice deal on Fridays where if you buy a bag of coffee beans, you get a drink for free.

Even though we were out of town, we were immediately invited to a small event they were having the next day and asked about our days in a manner that reflected genuine interest. I wish this could be my local coffee shop, you're so lucky if this is! Their unique offering was a wonderful selection of coffee and a delicious array of Colombian pastries. We ordered an empanada, a churro donut, almojabana, and the pan de bono. I'm vegetarian so I was very happy to see such a wide number of options for me! The churro donut was delicious and cinnamony - if you like sweet breakfasts, definitely get this! I really enjoyed the almojabana and the pan de bono. I liked the pan de bono so much, I even took a picture of the crumb to share with my mother, who is Colombian! It is so tempting to open them and start smelling, only the signs very nicely ask you not to. Wanting a break from dime-store coffee and tea (Folgers - no hate, it has a place), I decided to get something a little less "meh". Added bonus is that I am able to support a family business, as opposed to the Walton family and their associated shareholders. The staff at The Coffee & Tea Exchange was wonderful! They helped me select three different coffees to take home, speaking to the roasts and what makes them unique. I'd also like to award some bonus points for just the right grind of coffee for my reusable Keurig pods. My amazement does not stop at coffee, either - this also applies to teas. I went home with a few varieties of some of the more flavorful loose-leaf teas I've had! The kicker? The prices were very reasonable! True, it is not as cheap as a large can of Red or Blue coffee from the grocer's, but at the same time, not as expensive as something a corporation (maybe with a two-tailed siren??) has convinced you comes from a magical place called Seattle. Final verdict: My freshman year roommate had 4 open tubes of toothpaste because "variety is the spice of life." I have one tube of toothpaste, but coming up on a dozen different coffees and teas in my cabinet. Once I start running low, The Coffee & Tea Exchange is the first place I'll go to restock.

We ended up sharing an iced pistachio latte (delicious and 10/10!), the pistachio cheesecake (10/10!), and the strawberry mousse cake (7/10 - a subtle sweetness, great texture, but needed more cake or crust inside as it was mostly whipped cream and the shell). But after a few visits, it's just not for me…read more The first trip, I tried the Matari Tea: Green tea, Himalayan pink salt, milk, and spices, topped with roasted pistachios. Sounds good, right? Alas, it could not have been blander. I couldn't taste any "spices" or even the hint of salt. The profile was that of very watered-down tea mixed with milk, and a ton of pistachios floating on top. Like, barely crushed pistachios. Huge pieces, covering the top of the drink, bobbed around like tiny icebergs, and even they somehow had a toned-down flavor. The drink was definitely a swing and a miss. Fast forward two weeks, and I tried Matari again. This time with a simple cortado. I sat at the table right by the door, and the espresso was pretty good. Solid body, not too bitter. It was on the pricy side ($7+), but I was ok with that. But then, I'm hanging out, sipping my coffee, and I catch a burst of perfume-like scent. I'm shocked, but whatever, I figured someone in heavy perfume walked by, no big deal. A few minutes later, wham, I'm hit in the nose with another burst of perfume. Then, I see it. A slight haze around me. So, not a heavily perfumed woman after all, but an automated air-freshener. After further inspection, I see the unit plugged in on the ground right behind my chair, which sprays up and out on a timer. That's right, an air freshener right next to a table where people consume food and beverages, shooting a mist into the air that slowly rains down onto my head and table, and into my coffee. I ended up tossing the last few sips of my cortado, as I could taste the scented whatever-it-was in my cup. I'd have gone to the counter and asked for a new one, but I was so over my visit by then, I just opted to get out. The staff aren't very friendly. Not rude, but they don't give off a welcoming aura, and I didn't feel like trying to explain the issue. Lastly, can we talk about their little "your order is up" beepers? We've all seen them. The little electronic things that blink and make a noise when your order is ready, so you can go snag it from the counter. When I think of a coffee shop, I think quiet and peaceful, or perhaps a bit louder, with bustling people and well-paired music. At Matari, it's an insane BEEP BEEP BEEP that goes off every few minutes when an order is up. I get it, you don't want to bring the food out to your customers. But does it really need to feel like an airport Chili's? It's a bummer, because Matari is beautiful inside. It's clean, it's chic, and its location is at a notable crossroads in Skokie with plenty of parking, leaving it extremely convenient. They've even got an easy-to-use website, which so many coffee shops simply do not have. There aren't a lot of coffee shops in this particular part of town, which is why I so, so very much wanted to love Matari. But subpar drinks? Air freshener spray intrusions? Frequent and obnoxious beeping? I tried. I'm sorry. I just can't.
