I really love shoes, its a borderline problem, and Allen Edmonds were the gateway drug…read more Let's start with the quality. AE is going to be the best quality shoe you can find in this price range, hands down. The shoes are hand made in Wisconsin (they'll give you a whole spiel about the 212 steps involved in making each pair, but the bottom line is that they take a while to make). Another thing to keep in mind is the different lasts that they use. A last is the mold a shoe is built upon and is what determines what size shoe you'll be. AE has many different lasts and many, including the iconic 65 last (park avenues, strands, 5th aves), run VERY narrow. What does this mean for you? Basically that you 100% should get fitted before you buy your first pair (or you're going to end up with shoes that either hurt or are too lose and the leather is going to crease in an ugly way). Now say that you didn't get fitted and you just bought a pair online that doesn't fit so well. Don't stress, AE has the best return/exchange policy I've ever seen in a brand. They will ABSOLUTELY take your shoes back and exchange them for ones that fit or give you a refund, no questions asked (I've heard rumors of guys who have actually worn their AE's for a few days, didn't like the way they were breaking in and were offered an exchange - seriously the lengths they will go to keep their customers happy is incredible). If you're looking to step up your shoe game, AE is a great place to start - and if the sticker price is a bit shocking to you*, wait for a sale (they have sales a few times a year), or invest in factory seconds (shoes that have minor defects and are about half the price). Remember, a pair of AEs that you take care of will last the life of 5 or 6 pairs of cheaper shoes, they are an investment** _________________ *If you're a student (including grad students), you'll get 15% off instore with ID, or online. **Make sure you're using shoe trees and conditioning your leather!

I was also greeted upon entering. However, the customer service at the cash wrap sucked. I unfortunately was assisted by Kate who not only seemed like a liar but an airhead. Kate said she was unable to accept my returns because they were final sale. This was not noted when I placed my order and Kate admitted this flaw. She apologized and offered me a bag for the items that I attempted to return...which were already in a bag. Kate also suggested I instead return another "eligible" item from my order. This was a stupid suggestion bc if I wanted to return another item... I would've brought it with me to return. Airhead. Instead of a stand off I called Anthropologie's 800# and a rep was able to initiate my return by sending me a QR code and waving the return shipping cost ( yes Anthropologie is one of the few stores charging for return shipping). It was a waste of my time to go in store and my return be denied. What was accomplished over the phone should've been done in store. What was also troubling was that I was able to initiate a return online and generate a in store return slip, but Kate said she still wouldn't be able to accept my return. I'm not a big Anthropologie shopper...this situation although resolved does not make me keen on spending my money with them in the future. And... not to mention one of the items I wanted to return was listed as leather but it was cheap PVC...The audacity to not only mislabel the material but for it to originally be outrageously overpriced.

I was given two half-zippered sweaters as a gift, Nice looking sweaters but the wrong size. I went to Portabella store to exchange for the same items or similar in the proper size. Since these were gifts I didn't have the original receipt, The giver lives in a different state so no way for me to get the receipt. I expected they could be discounted by now and expected to be credited only for the discount price so I was prepared to pay any differences in price. The salesperson in the Portabella Paramus store told me that I cannot exchange without a receipt. Mind you that these sweaters had all the appropriate Portabella tags. I advised her that these are gifts so I am not able to get the receipts, that I only want to exchange for a different size or item and was prepared to pay the difference in rice. The salesperson said there was nothing that she can do for me! After about 5 minutes of back-forth I realize I'm not going to get anywhere with this so I left the store. I wanted to leave the sweaters in the store as a point of protest but decided that I will just donate them. Terrible customer service Portabella; I will never shop in your stores!
