After a less-than-stellar stop at Fleet Feet (where asking about shoe cushioning felt like I was requesting a full orthopedic evaluation mid-marathon), I made my way to Brooklyn Running Co--and immediately felt the difference. Even though it was busy, the staff was helpful, friendly, and clearly knew their stuff. They took the time to answer my questions thoughtfully, without rushing or brushing anything off. They only carried one running vest--top-tier Salomon, just under $200 with tax--but the gear they stock is high quality, and the clothing section had some really cute options (plus a few things on sale!). I'll definitely be back--whether it's for shoes next time, some runner fuel, or just to shop where good service actually goes the distance. read more

Nice running store that offers personalized recommendations. I appreciate the wealth of knowledge that the store associates clearly have, as well as the fact that they conduct a gait test to understand how you actually run and move. I liked the pair of running shoes and insoles I purchased here. But I feel like there's a bit more upselling here, though, than at Fleet Feet. I'm seven months into going to Orange Theory and am slowly improving my jogging and HITT skills. I stopped in here for help with sneakers after they were recommended by a friend. Gabe was an amazing help. He looked at my current sneakers, carefully sized me and told me that I'd been wearing the wrong size and wrong style of sneaker. Unfortunately they only had one pair in my size that worked for me - it felt perfect but I couldn't do that color. They didn't have a way to order them. I stopped in for a frantic last minute purchase before the staten island half marathon when I realized my old shoes weren't going to cut it and was, as usual, pleasantly surprised. The sales rep took 30 minutes with me to analyze my gait, discuss the use of said shoes, and let me try on four different pairs to see which would work best. He was kind and patient even though we knew that the store did not carry shoes in my size (size 5) at that time. We discussed running training, shoe types, and other associated gear. They did mention that they could order stuff from a warehouse but that it would take a week to get there. I loved the experience and the care their sales associates put into my visit even though I wasn't able to purchase anything from them. 5 stars for an overall great shop. read more

I came here specifically because they have a big sign out front announcing that they can advise new runners. The woman who helped me watched me walk and had me do a one legged squat (it's like running in slow motion, apparently). She asked questions about sneakers I like and about my running experience. Her assessment was spot on. I tried on a few pairs, trotted on the treadmill, and made my selection. It was easy and informative. They have a nice selection of gear and a rewards program. I recently visited the store hoping to find a new daily trainer and it seemed to have just the vibe of what I was looking for. The store is clean, organized, and well-staffed for tailored one-on-one expertise. It was therefore my surprise that my overall experience was one that made me feel completely invisible. After being provided a pair to try on, I was subsequently ignored without any follow up. Instead, the same sales guy proceeded to greet (and work with) another customer that came in after, and did not check up on me once, despite remaining in the store for another 15 minutes. I managed to flag down another associate for help, but got curt, disengaged responses giving me the impression I was wasting his time. I genuinely came into this store hoping to support local business but left with complete disinterest and plan to patronize another business. read more

Very, very good customer service. The salespeople obviously like working there, because they're in a good mood, knowledgeable and friendly. They are runners themselves and they know their shoes. There's a lot to choose from. If they don't have what you want, they don't try to sell you something anyway just to make a commission. This is always my first stop, and usually my last, when buying shoes. BTW, I'm not a runner, just a person with bad feet who needs good shoes and prefers to deal with nice people, rather than jerks who view the customer as an occupational hazard. read more

Brooklyn running company recently opened their new store in Park Slope and wow, what a cool place! A totally different vibe from the Williamsburg location, with the same wonderful customer service. The parking here is hard to find, as in almost impossible! The store is located right on the corner and although the closest parking is metered it's two hour max. The subway is right on the corner as well (and highly recommended). I came in because I wanted to see the new space and try on the vapor fly Nike's that everyone was wearing and have been raving about. When I first walked in it was pretty quiet but I was helped quickly. They didn't have the size that I wanted but they were nice enough to call the Williamsburg store and they had my size so I went over. The staff is very helpful and very knowledgeable. I had a great experience selecting walking shoes at Brooklyn Running Company. I had purchased some Hoka's elsewhere and ended up with a bad fit and had to return them. I spoke with Kit who was highly informative, listened to what I needed my shoes for, and brought me several pairs to try. After selecting my favorite from the 3, Kit brought out a couple more to compare with - I learned a lot, got a good feel for things to consider in the future, and didn't feel pressured in the slightest - it was very chill. In the end I walked out with the first pair of shoes I tried because Kit's instincts were right on the money. Every dollar and minute here was well-spent. After leaving the store I walked a few blocks and decided to switch into the new shoes; I was so motivated I decided on a whim to take the Manhattan Bridge and walk to the LES. Came here today to get a pair of sneakers for walking. I had a great experience and the young man helping me made sure I got the right size shoe. I had to turn my pants up at the ankles because he watched to see if my ankles turned in or I walked and favored one side or the other. Store is clean if you care about that. They can also order a color if they don't have it. I settled for a pair of black hoka's. They fit perfectly! I wish I could remember the salesman's name because he was super nice to this ol' Brooklyn chick. Go and let them help you get the right size and shoe. I am writing this review solely to shout out Daniele for his above-and-beyond service. I walked into this Park Slope location with a pair of shoes I bought from their Williamsburg location to make an exchange. Since I had just bought the shoes earlier that day, he was curious as to why I wanted to make an exchange so quickly. I let him know that I had experienced the rudest service at the WB location (fought back tears) and forced myself to buy a pair of shoes just to get out of the store. He was sincerely apologetic and apologized multiple times even though it was not his fault. Although the store was starting to get crowded, he took amazing care of me and called out the overpronation on my left foot that was unnoticed in the Williamsburg location. I've only recently tried to take up jogging due to gym closures and decided to stop in here. Lexi was SO nice and helpful! She asked me to walk around a bit to get a feel for my gait, measured my feet, asked some questions, and showed me a chart of different foot arches (or something) and explained why I should use a certain type of shoe. She then brought out a few styles of that type and I ended up buying this amazing pair of New Balance shoes, along with some socks! I'd come back here for more running gear for sure. read more

I had the best experience at Brooklyn Running Company. They were so patient and expertly measured my feet, watched me walk without shoes on, and assured me that accomodating my orthotics was no problem. They explained how I walked and the shoes that would work for me and why. THEN they brought out different shoes and were very patient letting me try them all on and in slightly different sizes. I'm thrilled about their new Park Slope location as it's much closer to me and generally more convenient for many runners being so close to Prospect Park. The store space is perfect. They have an excellent selection of running shoes with knowledgeable staff to help make the best decision tailored to individual needs. Their branded gear is top notch. I decided to try out a new brand, and after a run in them, they didn't feel quite right. I brought them back and was able to not only quickly exchange them, but Kate also looked at my gait, watched me run on the treadmill, gave me tips on avoiding a running issue I've been dealing with, and advised on the shoe style and size that would work best for me. Dropped in to get a new pair of shoes and was immediately greeted. A salesperson made sure I knew that I'd be seen soon and while I waited, only for a few minutes, I could see how patient and thorough the sales staff were being with the customers they were seeing. There were a lot of people in the store but there were almost as many staff so things moved along quickly. When it was my turn Pablo was super patient, took the time to do a gait analysis, stability assessment, and a measurement of my feet. He brought out several pairs of shoes, different makes and models. He didn't flinch when I showed him my gross black toenails to explain that I was looking for shoes with a roomy toe box. This place is great. I worked with Joe and he was very attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. He took time to observe my gait and recommend a few different options to choose from. The shoes I ended up going with were fantastic and extremely comfortable during my first run on them. I never felt pressured to buy or like they were only showing me the most expensive shoes. You truly get the feeling that they want to get you in the best shoe for your running style. Everyone was wearing masks and remaining as socially distant as possible. Lexi helped me today with my first time EVER being fitted for shoes (which wound up being 1.5 sizes higher than I was used to wearing my whole life!) and I am writing this review because she is a literal angel. SO helpful and patient, she listened to all of my concerns and she even recommended a PT after I explained the issues I'm having with my ankles. As a bra fitter I know how exhausting this type of one-on-one customer service can be, but I never felt rushed here. In fact I wound up spending an extra $40 on accessories haha! Excellent, patient, and friendly staff! I came on a Saturday afternoon so the store was quite packed so I thought I wouldn't be helped but Chole saw my wandering eyes and asked if I needed help. I explained to her I was a beginner training for the upcoming Brooklyn Half. She ended up helping me while bouncing back between 1-2 other customers (A+). She immediately diagnosed my over-pronation after seeing my walk and brought out 3 pairs of stability shoes for me to try on. I ended up picking the New Balance 860 V12s. As an anxious beginner, Chole made my experience so easy and she was super patient with me. However, while I was on the train uptown I realized I may have made my decision too quickly as I was having some buyer's remorse. I was originally in-between the NB and the Hoka Arachi and started to think the Hokas might be better since they have more cushion and I've been having pain in my right ankle. So I decided to go back and try the Hoka and New Balance again even though I was worried it might be awkward or they might be annoyed... Not at all! Chole was super understanding and she asked Jeffrey to help me out as she was helping another customer. Jeffrey was so kind and patient with me, explaining the pros and cons of each shoe and asking about the fit. I ended up going with the Hokas and couldn't be happier! A+ to Jeffrey who was super understanding about me coming in again, patient, and didn't judge me at all for being an indecisive buyer (he even laced up my new Hokas with the new laces I bought)! I wish I did not have to write this review because I love my new running shoes, but my experience in the store was unfortunately not what I expected or what they promote on their website and on the sandwich board in front of their store. At least it was not for me. Why? I wish I could say. To begin with their initial questions were generic and had to do with style and size. While waiting for potentail try-ons to come out, I sat and watched other customers engaging with their sales associates by running on a treadmill or walking while being observed. Not only did I not receive these assessments I was not asked ONE question about my running history or experience. I even tried to prompt conversations offering up such information, but I did not get a sense that the sales associate was interested. He remained cordial and polite, but he completely dropped the ball in fulfilling the store's promises around assuring that each customer leave the store with the correct running shoe. By the time I reached home after my purchase, I started to question my experience. I even tried to justify why it might have happened. The bottom line is, it should NOT have happened. Trying to come up with an explanation I was left with 3 possible reasons for this type of discrimination. I call it discimination because they looked at me and decided to not give me the full treatment. Was it the fact that I mentioned that I was a novice runner? Was it my age? Was it the fact that I am a person of color? I don't know. It is making me anxious to write this, but this happened days ago and it is still weighing on me enough to sit here and compose this. And while traveling no less! I just want people to know what this store did and to decide for themselves if they really want to spend their dollars in support of a store that would exercise such inexcusable disrciminaratoy practrices. A consumer should not feel slighted, invisible, or insignificant, while shopping in a store that prides itself on having a special individual touch. read more

I am visiting from Michigan. While in Brooklyn I am walking each day on side walks instead of trails as my body was used to. One day visiting Park Slope I walked into Brooklyn Running Company. My good fortune. The staff ( Daniel) assisted me in finding the perfect shoe. The first shoe I bought did not fit right so I called the store and they had the right size delivered personally from their other store, made the switch the next morning and I have been walking in comfort on the sidewalks of Brooklyn and beyond ever since. They only transfer on Wednesdays. My request was late of Wednesday after transfers had been logged in. An employee from Bergen Street went to one of their other stores in the am and brought it to the Bergen location. Excellent customer service. They truly want their running customers to have the best fit possible. I also purchased a jacket on sale that I love! ...AND THE MANAGER IS FROM MICHIGAN. read more
