We were walking from the subway to Brooklyn Bridge Park. The plan was to provide my sister the opportunity to explore the wonderful shops in Cobble Hill. Soula's storefront display beckoned us to enter. The merchandise on display in the store proved to also be appealing. There is always a tough question for my sister when shoe shopping. "Do you have size 5?" Normally she is disappointed. But the friendly clerk answered in the affirmative. Not only did they have size 5, the shoes were cute and comfortable. My sister bought several pairs. An added bonus was the great children's shoes. My four year old Grandson, who is ever growing, was fitted in a cool new pair of summer casual shoes. He was encouraged to try them out in the store to assure a good fit. The little one was happy to comply, in the typical enthusiastic fashion of a child. There were only smiles from the staff. These guys are great. They don't have a huge selection, but almost every shoe they stock is amazing. Taste, baby! They got it in spades! Last winter, every time my girlfriend and I would walk by, she would get all giddy over these silver Chucks.(I bought her the Chucks for Christmas, and she was so excited I got embarassed. They're just shoes, dude.) The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. I wish I needed new shoes every week so I had an excuse to spend more time and money there. I love these guys. read more

Holy Shoe Heaven! Soula might be the best shoe store I've ever experienced. I'm not a big shoe person (others would disagree, judging from the abundance of hardly-worn shoes in my closet). I usually prefer clothes shopping. But...Soula won me over in a big way. The selection is just the right size. Not too overwhelming, not skimpy. Plus, I can honestly say I could have purchased every shoe in the joint. They were all gorgeous. And, more importantly for an old bag like me, tons of comfortable options! I'm a big fan of Soula. I've shopped here since they opened in 2004, probably bought a dozen pairs of shoes here. If you find that your taste is similar to the styles they carry, you'll continue to find new shoes here year in and year out. I've found many styles or colorways of sneakers, in particular, that I haven't seen at many other shops, and when I have come across the same shoes elsewhere, Soula's prices are generally much better. I'd say that Soula's prices range from good to reasonable, and they have nice sales at the end of the season. The owner and his family seem like good folks and live in Brooklyn. read more

When I go here it is very hard not to be led astray by the vast selection of men's sneakers and shoes. I can't speak for the women's shoes, but the men's section is always full of cool, but not trendy kicks. It is a small store, but that does not mean there are not a lot of options. It is easy to manage, which I like. When you walk in, men on the right, women on the left and kids straight ahead. The prices are good. I mean they are not cheap, but they are priced right and I feel like the shoes I have gotten there were pretty solid deals. They have dressier shoes, but I think they specialize in the cool sneaker (lots of off-beat Puma and Adidas) and the comfortable, sne-shoe (Camper, Clarks, Keen). When it comes to kids shoes, this place is a gold mine for the cool sneaks your kids will actually want to wear. There is not a huge selection for kids, but it is ever-changing and strong. Puma, Adidas, Keen and a few others round out a nice selection. How can you go wrong with yellow Puma's for a little girl? This is my go-to shoe spot so far in the Heights/Cobble Hill area. They are also really helpful and nice and will check their other location if they don't have your size in stock. read more

I can't even begin to describe how happy I am with the service at Soula Shoes. They sell a variety of quality shoe brands. I looove Clarks shoes and, originally, I went on the Clarks website looking for a shoe called Wallabee craft in black nubuck. All my sizes were sold out. I then went on google and found a couple of other sites that were selling them but they were all international companies who wouldve made me deal with customs myself. I checked every day hoping someone would be selling these shoes even if it was on ebay. Thats when I stumbled upon Soula Shoes. They had the exact shoes Ive been searching high and low for. While their shoes can be a bit pricey, I know that I am buying a great brand that is well made and will be part of my wardrobe for years. Soula is the first store I think of when I go shoe shopping. This is usually what gets me when I'm "window shopping" (and I put those quotes there for a reason) because Soula's usually the time when window shopping drops the first word and I'm down another $90. It also gives me license to say, "THESE SHOES ARE MINE, BETCH!" The selection runs the gamut from Chucks to Diesel to Tretorns (my now-favorite shoe company, thanks in no small part to Soula and hus), and on the ladies' side, you get en even more compelling selection of things to put on your feet. Whether you need slip-ons, galoshes, or just the cleanest pair of sneaks you could ever want (and moderately priced, mind you), you must look in this store. Soula, along with its Park Slope twin, wins me over every time. The shoe selection is so beautiful (really, there's no better word for it), because it's so wonderfully micromanaged by the owner, Rick. A very cool shoe store. Being a former sneakerhead, I totally appreciated the different selection they had. The staff was uber-friendly and helpful. It's a great location on Smith St., right around the corner from where I was staying. I walked away with some nice Camper wool shoes. I like the store, BUT a woman was trying on 2 pairs of boots and asked people around her which one looked better. We all said the Frye boot was the better looking one, in this situation. She finally asked the store clerk and this clown says, "well that one is a Frye Boot. It's nice, but the other one is sleeker and has a better name". Up sell much?! Two words: great service. This place is always pretty packed, but the staff is alway super nice and quick to find a size (or even call their other store for a style/size). The men's stuff is super cute, but not super cheap. That being said, I have little luck with finding shoes that fit here. Seems they go for long and narrow -- we're taking dress shoes, folks! Every pair of shoes I own (besides my small collection of SB Dunks) is LITERALLY from this friggin' store! I love their selection and I'm no slouch when it comes to fashion. I usually satisfy my Paul Smith and John Varvatos fix here. I got a couple of sick boots from here as well They don't have the largest selection but I'd rather choose from 50 quality shoes than have 150 decent shoes to pick from. I've got some really dope kicks from the $100-$380 range. Betsy's very helpful too...if you shop how I do, which is get in and get out like a bank heist. They have a small/medium selection but they seem to put so much care in their purchasing that I almost always love a few pairs every time I visit. Soula has an awesome selection of unique styles - everything from Puma to Gola to Paul Smith. Can be pricey, but every so often they have a GREAT sale. I bought a sweet pair of Puma Barrel Rolls there on sale for $20. Staff is usually friendly and attentive. Space is small and can get very overcrowded - especially if somebody decides to wheel their stoller inside. read more

They have beautiful shoes. Their customer service, not so much. Once in a very blue moon, a pair of shoes does not hold up to the designers original plan and something goes awry. In my case, the shoes did not hold up -- No big deal, Soula will take care of it and make you happy, right? Nope! They claim the shoes defect is how the shoe is supposed to be and it is my fault they don't look right. You're better off at DNA (1 block away) or Epaulet -- They have just as nice of a selection AND Customer Service! Just be weary of buying anything at Soula. read more

Well. If you're in business in new york chances are you know yelp holds good reviews for ransom and let's the bad ones hang out there, so Soula has paid the yelp piper indeed because the reviews here are totally staged. i am a real customer and bought many pairs of shoes there. every single time i bought a pair whether it be a light sporty type or a boot that looks tougher then the best radial tires, they break down well before they should. knockoffs, i don't know, it's hard to say since who's going to tell the truth. i just bought a pair of really sturdy looking boots just this past October and already the stitching along the shoelace holes has come undone. i have had bottoms peel off or little patches of the bottom come off or the back heel come undone and i am talking about months after the purchase. no, i didn't take them in and complain, i kept sticking to them because they are a local small business and replacing a tin can with another tin can when you paid for a steel can doesn't interest me. i will take my lumps on those but no more. hopefully a few people will see this before yelp pulls it down. i have no alerter motive, service is fine, just hate to see someone else lose their hard earn money on these "shoes" read more
