Don't support this business. The store clerk was very rude and I thought it was a one off--until I checked the reviews later on here and Yelp. They reveal YEARS of customers reporting homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic remarks by this sales clerk and yet there's been no change. He was rude and inappropriate to me. When I tried on sandals, he remarked "I like the sandals but not your toes " implying I need a pedicure. I responded "that's not very customer friendly" to which he replied "oh well, you need to hear it." Nasty, terrible and made the experience uncomfortable. And I'm disappointed to learn this a longstanding pattern that many customers have raised. This business doesn't care. read more

Bentleys is a one of a kind shoe store. The shoes are varied from great companies and they are not the ones you usually see in DSW. Prices are good, too. But what I love and what makes Bentleys unique is the wie array of sizes. Because of bunions, I now where a hard to find 10 1/2 or an 11. Many shoe stores carry shoes where the sized do not go up that high, and there are many women who wear larger sizes. +++ URGENT +++ PLEASE READ BEFORE SUPPORTING THIS BUSINESS +++ I had the WORST experience there yesterday. Came in, found two pairs of shoes that I planned on buying. When getting ready to check out, the black gentleman, who is the owner (!), made derogatory comments about me being overweight. He thought I could not hear him, but I did. I was shocked. I was about to drop serious cash for shoes and the business owner insulted me in a horrible way. I had my credit card out, ready to purchase. When I heard him saying these things, I told him that this is horrible and I won't be supporting this business. He acknowledged he said it, then apologized half-heartedly, then all of the sudden changed his tune, when realizing other customers were listening. Later I took a photo to have proof that this happened, adding that I will be tweeting this and posting it on Yelp. And believe you me: THE MAN CAME RUNNING AFTER ME AND THREATENING me, even stopping (!!) the cab that I got into. I recorded him saying: "If you do what you said you will do with the picture, I will destroy you, i will hunt you down and find you. Hope you have a lot of money for the lawsuit". I am not even kidding. Happy that I have the cab driver as a documented witness of this incident. I have never experienced anything like this. Please know who you are supporting, when buying shoes there. I notified all of my friends and neighbors in Brooklyn to not support this business. Nice on the outside, rotten and a bad person on the inside. To the owner: Please note that I have witnesses and documentation for this account, so there is no way for you to weasel yourself out of this. In this day and age you cannot insult people and think you can get away with it. Not even as a shoe seller. Karma will get you. I hope you learn from this and start becoming a better person. I've been coming to Bentley's shoes on Montague Street for about eleven years now. The owner of store is so attentive and down to earth. There is always a sale. Bentley's shoe are good quality leather shoes. For instance I used to love Aldo shoe, but Aldo uses a lot of PU leather and man made materials that's made in China!! The shoes break up in no time for 150 dollars no way!!! Bentley's shoes carries a lot of Italian made shoe for about that price and less depending on the sale. My friend and I were in the mood to shop for high heeled shoes. I took a look around and saw a wide selection of boots, leather shoes, and flats. They did seem neatly placed. I live across the street from Bentley's and sometimes I go in there just to kill time, like if I'm doing laundry and waiting for my clothes to dry. But I've also bought some really wonderful shoes there over the years. I've been buying shoes there for at least 15-20 years, and I've never been disappointed. They have interesting and unusual styles and high quality shoes in a large range of sizes (up to size 13, half sizes, wide widths) at mostly good prices. The sales are great and there's a 10% discount if you pay cash. I currently own several pairs of shoes that I bought there years ago that are still in good shape. Bentley's is one of my favorite stores ever and the owner is really nice too. I was really surprised to read all of these negative comments about him. Maybe he's made a comment about something or other here or there but I never experienced him as malicious or inappropriate. The salesgirls haven't been the greatest in the past year or two, they just don't seem that much into selling ... which is actually fine too, it means I can go in there and just try stuff and not be too tempted. BEWARE! The prices are jacked up and you can't return what you buy for credit - only exchange, within 2 weeks. I bought a pair of Clarke's for a discounted price of $72 because I paid cash. I just now went online to the Clarke's website and they were originally only $75, and on sale right now for $59.95, with free shipping! The place looks like they sell everything on sale because there's such a jumble of shoes and huge banners proclaiming a sale (probably only for a small part of the stock if at all). Love Love this Store!! I am a shoe addict who shops online, department stores and I get my fix from Bentleys! I have been shopping at this store for over 20 years. This store exemplifies what service is supposed to be.. You will be fitted for your shoe and if it doesn't fit and the can't make the adjustment in the store, the owner Tony has a cobbler that will fit it for you. You tell him what you need, he will consult with you measure you and .... Wait for it.... Bring your shoes to the cobbler for repair and bring them back to the store for you to pick up!! They have a nice selection of all types of shoes and boots from $20 to $200+ and rare sizes 5 to 13!!! Including Wide Widths. Tony understands women's shoe needs and stocks his inventory accordingly. I have wide calves and wide feet and I have gotten knee high high heeled boots custom fit to my body type!! You pay for this service but it is not exorbitant. $40 - 60 to make a regular calf (14 inches) expanded to extra wide calf (18-19 inches) and the leather matches perfectly and the craftsmanship is superb. So why 4 stars??? - You may walk in the store and they are in the back for far too long. - The newer sales girls don't offer the same boutique service that the owner does - You may get an unsolicited critique of your current shoe or fashion game from the owner. He is Brutally honest and while his critique stings.... It is always spot on and comes from a place of tough love not meaness. Thin skinned women beware! I've been shopping there for over 20 years and he has never steered me wrong. - You may overhear more Unsolicited commentary about current events, sports, religion, politics you name it... The worst customer service and poor quality shoes! The first pair of shoes I got there were Clarks. The metal closure on the shoes broke after two weeks of wearing them. No exchanges or returns were accepted. I assumed they buy sample shoes from brands and reselling them in their store. Very limited sizes are offered. The second time I came I was harassed by the retail clerk (a tall man in glasses - maybe the owner since he can afford such a poor treatment of his clients) for using my phone to browse other boots while trying on their boots a size larger (since they didn't have my size). I was actually going to buy the boots, but was so disgusted by the customer service that I just walked out. Overall, the service is very inattentive and rude. P.S. (Not that I dislike it), However, the buyer and owner of this shop has impeccable taste in shoes. He really knows his patrons. He is on top of the latest fashion in shoes and he will continue to make all the ladies happy with his discerning eye. WONDERFUL !!!!!!!! I have been shopping here since the summer of 2002. The nicest people work there, they treat me like i am family, they are nice,very helpful and goes over and beyond what they have to at times. The owner( The Male) and the Manager ( Sweetest Lady) seem to really know their stuff. After a few questions it was like she knew me and my taste for years my fist time there. They tell me the truth ; what worked for me and what didnt work of me, what i needed and what would be a waste of my time and money. The young lady even suggested to me that i bring the outfit (everything including jewelry) i was trying to match with the shoe and she would help me put it together to see if it works. After that day i was sold and have been going there ever since. Now i know them and they know me by name, The owner, would even go as far as to tell me that i am in his store to often and that i don't need another pair of those shoes or boots ( whichever i was trying at the time) cuz i bought one just like them last week.Their selection are great and the service is even greater. Rip Off!! + Horrible "service". The overinflated prices are apparently a reflection of the owners' narcissistic self image. Two years ago I stopped in attracted to the "up to size 13" sign in the window (I'm an 11) only to receive unsolicited criticism about my outfit from head to toe in only what I can imagine was some sort of attempt to embarrass me into purchasing overpriced under-fashionable shoes. When I clearly stated my objection to the unsolicited commentary which had been delivered condescendingly at a preachers pitch for the entire store to hear and pointed out that being a shoe store retail clerk doesn't qualify you as a fashion expert, the clerk identified himself as the owner and argued that as such he is an expert and entitled to pass judgment. Thoroughly disgusted, I left determined to never return. Determined that any pair of shoes there could also be found at DSW or online and no pair of shoes was worth the experience of this place... Recently, my MIL was in for a visit and as we strolled down Montague she wanted to go in to find boots. I decided to let go of my "silly" grudge and just go... she finds a pair on "sale" marked down to $60 from $180 or something (seems like a big savings!). At check-out she is subjected to the same pulpit style delivery of "wisdom" (this time on another subject). Again, unsolicited, spectacle making, ignorant, and stomach turning. After wrestling her free of that distasteful situation, we leave... And here's the kicker: We turn down Court Street and only a couple blocks down find the EXACT SAME boots for $40 - not on "sale". After only bringing me one pair of shoes that I had requested, she didn't bother to bring the second pair- which i was really looking to buy. Customer is always WRONG Preface by saying...I have lived in NYC for the past 21 years and have never EVER bothered to write a review - bad or good - ever! But the customer service experience was- WIERDLY bad. The man who helped me made some thinly veiled comments about the state of my hair and a good pair of shoes (which he was entirely right about, but hey I hold it all together with a full time job and a special needs kid so not really feeling the commentary) - but the best part is being sent home with two different colored shoes which i never had the time to inspect since i wear a size 5 and only see the 1 shoe floor sample! Is that a hilarious NYC Seinfeld episode or what?? I live in Brooklyn but nowhere near the store and was annoyed to have to find time in my ridiculous schedule to bring back the shoes. I thought they would be embarrassed and apologetic. My amazing husband actually did it for me a month later - but the owner didn't bother to correct the problem when he finally made it in-citing the time limit on my receipt regarding exchange policy but since he was 'NICE' he was willing to try and help. I called to follow up - and WOW. I will spare you the nonsense. Never had such disgustingly rude, horrible service. Shame on him. I have to deal with difficult people ALL DAY long - and of course would be fired if i spoke to a client in that way. Amazing! I would stay away- esp if you are a size 5 and don't have the chance to double check your shoes before you leave and don't appreciate crappy service and stupid mistakes that the staff make and the owner makes you beg to correct. I have been to this store twice in the last 10 years and will never ever return. The first time as an absolute nightmare with Tony completely embarrassing me with his truly outlandish way of speaking. i left the store that day without buying anything. 10 years later, because of a broken shoe heel I walked into this store with much trepidation and had a different experience; pleasant even. He did what i've come to realize is "his thing" of completley analyzing women's appearnce as if he is an authority on women. Lo and behold i wore one of the boots for the first time today and the zipper completely opened on me in the street. When i went to the store at 10:15 his assistant Dess fixed the zipper and when i asked if i could replace the boot she told me i'd have to wait until Tony got in. She explained that because i had worn the boot he might not replace it. I explained that of course i wore it, it happened in the street. Anyway, Tony called when he got in and i went back to the store only to be told in a very dismissive way that all sales are final, i had worn the boots so he couldnt replace it but i could bring it in to have the zipper replaced. By the way Aerosoles, if you break a heel up to one year after purchase of the shoe, will replace that shoe. THIS REMAINS AN ALLROUND TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE -- I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS STORE AND WILL NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE, not even people I don't like. read more
