BAMBOOZLED! During the 2024 holidays season I made a purchase totaling nearly $400 which qualified for me for a promo to receive a $50 gift card that expires 2/28. Well today, on 2/26 I decided to cash in on my gift card. I picked a pair of sunnies ($20) and a makeup bag ($25). When I got to the register, I was told I needed to make a purchase of $150 in order to use the gift card. This was never disclosed during the initial purchase. Nowhere on the receipt or gift card does it state this term and condition! When I spoke to the "manager" of the day, she agreed that it wasn't stated in writing, but "that's the way it's set up". Really? How misleadingly convenient. That important detail was left out. What a crock! What a disappointment! Bait-and-switch is BAD BUSINESS. You're obligated to let your customers know these details of your promos and the way they are "set up" beforehand. I'm filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau next. read more

My girlfriend made a special trip to get me a few pairs of shoes for a special event that came up without much notice. I didn't have the right casual shoe. I'm a weird size but I could tell from the website selection Shoe Market was going to be our best bet. Even though I had to work and couldn't come with to get them on, the store associate was able to advise her a few selections they had in stock that might work for me. Dealt with one of the owners Erika, and it was probably one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had. I've loved and shopped in this store for 6+ years. It's been a go-to for me. I shop local and don't go to Zappos and other big box retailers specifically to support these kind of stores in Williamsburg and beyond. And I know they prob deal with awful annoying customers but after my last and final experience there , I won't be going back specifically because of the owner. I bought a pair of $198 boots and wanted to return them. I called 8 days after and was told they would make an exception and no problem. In the interim I searched high and low for the receipt and couldn't find it anywhere. I'm pretty sure it was accidentally thrown out. THESE THINGS HAPPEN. I called before and they said no problem, you don't need the receipt we can "look you up." Well PS , that only works if the girls take your name down when your making the purchase. But did she tell me that? No, of course not. I went in 4 days after that because I had a death in my family. Again, not their problem but guess what, learn the word empathy. I showed Erika my bank statement and basically couldn't leave until she gave me a refund because she reduced me to that which is insane. She was rude, condescending, and had a terrible attitude. It was AWFUL. Then she told me she had to charge me a 15% restocking fee! Are you serious?!! You are literally going to put these boots out and sell them in 2 seconds because I bought the last pair and they were extremely popular. They were literally brand new and still had the paper in them. Then she tried to give me a refund minus 20% and not 15% which was extremely sneaky. My daughter went to this store today and was treated so poorly. First she was ignored for quite a bit until finally Erika asked her what size she was looking for. Once my daughter paid Erika said her receipt will be emailed to her. A receipt she still HAS NOT receive via email. My daughter still wanted a paper one as well. Erika proceeded to tell her it doesn't matter it's a FINAL SALE ANYWAY after it was purchased. She failed to mentioned this before it being purchased. My daughter was also interested in Steve Madden shoes but after Erika treated her so poorly she chose to take her business to the actual Steven Madden store where they had excellent customer service. We try to support these small businesses because we know they suffered during the pandemic. But it's obvious they do not need it! read more

Avoid at all costs because they do not value customer satisfaction - they just care about making the sale at all costs. I was looking at a pair of shoes and they didn't have my size. The saleswoman pushed me to buy a size that was close saying that the leather would stretch. I decided I'd give it a try because they had a "return policy." I tried the shoes out for a couple days and my feet bled. They scraped against my heels and were extremely painful to wear. I brought the shoes back, and they couldn't care less about me being unhappy with my purchase. The saleswomen was polite, but where it went downhill was when she brought the manager in. This manager took my receipt from me and stamped "final sale" on it making my "return policy" immediately void. She gave me attitude saying that because they were worn outside, she couldn't take them back. They were immaculate and certainly wouldn't work for me and I showed her the open flesh wounds on my feet that the shoes caused. She said, "we're too small of a store to be able to have a return policy like that." My response is "you're too small of a store to afford unhappy customers." If you can't take care of your customers and have no regard for their satisfaction, they will stop coming. I recommend avoiding this place and going somewhere that values customer satisfaction. read more

I like the general selection of Shoe Market, but since it is right off of Bedford and caters to a trendy clientele, they run out of sizes/colors pretty quickly. This happened to me a couple times for items I wanted to buy. Their customer service is pretty good - of course there's a certain level of non-chalantness in hipsterville, but the staff does a great job of navigating the busy crowds and getting you the right sizes to try on. The main gripe I have about this store is that they (similar to their sister store, Mini Mini Market) do not offer refunds - exchange or store credit only. I totally get that this helps protect them as a small business, but as a customer I feel I should have the option of returning unworn purchases in a reasonable amount of time - especially for higher end shoes. I guess most of their other clientele have the moola and don't really care. However, I've been walking around with my store credit (which does thankfully last a year) for at least six months now trying to figure out what to spend it on. read more

I would say that this shop has a well curated collection. Shopping in-store is simple if you have down time and don't need assistance. Aside from that I would not suggest shopping the website. It is very faulty when it comes to purchases with my complete order being canceled after two days. Walked in on a sprinkling night after dinner. I am obsessed with shoes and the open sign called to me. As soon as I walked in, I wasn't greeted right away. But when I was it was more of a "how are you doing (I'm judging you right now and you can't afford that pair of Frye boots)" Needless to say, I did not feel comfortable or welcomed. Besides lack of customer service. Their selection isn't horrible. Good amount of heels, flats, and boots. More pricier brands with the cheapest probably being Minnetonka. It's Williamsburg, what do you expect? Sale section is dinky. If you want to save on bucks, not the best place to be. They also have a huge selection on socks! Pretty frustrated after attempting to return a pair or boots. I called to make sure I was able to return them without a receipt and they confirmed, and when I went inside to return them they refused because it was past the date. I could have accepted that but the attitude was RUDE - when I told them they should be clearer about the return policy, the girl said "it says it in bold letters on the receipt." Honestly, I have to give Shoe Market props for carrying brands that are off the radar. I've discovered brands like Maguba and Eric Michael that make their shoes with leather (not that cheap ass fake leather crap) and still manage to be under $200. I appreciate that the owners keep in mind and know their customers want quality, but don't want to pay frivolous prices. Props to their Customer Service too. I saw some shoes on their website and asked questions about the fit, their availability, etc. and they got back to me within minutes. I will say that on a weekend, this place gets super crowded and considering that it is a shoe place that packs a shit ton of options, trying on the actual shoes when you're trying to buy them with 100s of people swirling around in a place that holds about 10 can be annoying, hence the feeling of "the lack of employees" helping. Honestly, if they had any more people working here on the weekend, they'd need to start a line outside for people to come in or else it'd be too fucking crowded. read more

The one star is because they had a great selection and prices were competitive. Five minutes after I walked in, I saw two pairs of shoes that I was ready to buy. I turned around to get the attention of one of the two salesgirls, who both saw my partner and I walk in awhile ago. One was busy behind the register helping another customer, so I bee-lined for the other who was doing inventory at the front of the shop. I looked at her and opened my mouth to speak... She looked at me... And right when I was about to say "Excuse me..." she turned her head away and walked right past me to the back of the room like she couldn't be bothered. What the...? Seriously? Who died and made her queen? Even a queen wouldn't be so disrespectful and at least acknowledge our presence. Even a mere "hello" when we walked in (along with other customers) would have been nice, STANDARD even. On second thought, she did acknowledge me... By sizing me up with one glance, and deciding to walk away. I've read reviews talking about a guy that actually knows what customer service is all about - it's too bad he wasn't there when I was. I know that some of the employees can be a little bitchy, but I think you just have to ask someone who looks friendly for help - otherwise you might be in for a little snarkiness. She didn't really know what she was doing (it was her first time filling all the info out and she got some of the pricing wrong) but she was sweet so it was hard to get frustrated with her. Buying shoes from him is - in a word - delightful. I have bought a lot of shoes in my day (among a lot of other crap) and never have I been so affected by a customer service experince. I used to hate this place; in fact, I even boycotted it for a time (this was due to a number of traumatic service experiences; the accused will remain descriptionless). THEN. I met Rob. What great customer service at Shoe Market! A few months back, I bought a sorta pricey pair of Sperry rainboots from ShoeMarket because I wanted a good boot and because I wanted to save a little money and not buy Hunter boots. Jump to today: there are two tears in the rubber near my big toe! I e-mailed Sperry to complain and I e-mailed ShoeMarket just to let them know--I like the store, so I didn't want Sperry's crap rainboots to make SM look bad. Christine (the owner/manager) said that she would take back my boots and deal with Sperry so that I didn't have to. I'll stop in next week and will splurge on those Hunters after all. I was so impressed, surprised, and touched that Christine would go through all this trouble for me. Sperry told me that they would possibly exchange my damaged boots (for Sperry boots just as crappily made?) IF they determined that I didn't purposely damage them and that the damage resulted from natural wear and tear or a defect in manufacturing. I'm so thankful that I don't have to go through all the trouble and can get this fixed easily. Thank you Christine! read more

Ok, so I decided to try Shoe Market again...I have not changed my mind. I was in the market for a pair of classic white bucks and they happen to have a pair of Bass ones on display. I asked the very bored looking girl sitting behind the register what the smallest size they had in this style was and she replied "You've got it in your hand." and proceeded to go back to looking bored. Now I can completely understand the bored look (I've worked retail in the past and was even a district manager for a retail clothing chain) if there was no one in the store, but there happen to be 4 women in the store along with me. This person didn't ever acknowledge they were in the store, let alone asked if ANYONE in the store needed any help. Seriously, with the state of the economy being what it is and businesses failing left and right, if anyone walked into your store looking to spend money, I would think that you would want to do anything to help them. I was in need of a Spring shoe as it's April and even though it's still snowing on days I have faith in the Spring Gods that Spring will arrive soon. After a quick search on yelp I decided to check out Shoe Market despite reading incredibly mixed reviews of the store. I did notice that a bunch of the negative reviews pertained to returns . In decades of shoe shopping I've never returned a pair of shoes so I felt it was a safe bet to shop at Shoe Market. This shoe store is well organized ! On the left are women's and right men's shoes . There were so many cute pairs of shoes I had an incredibly tough time deciding so I approached the sales lady with ' Please help me find a comfortable pair of Spring shoes for everyday wear ' She picked out a pair of Vagabonds in pearl blue . I tried it on and loved it . There was another lady in the store purchasing the same pair . It was the quickest, most painless shoe store experience I'd ever had . Always on my agenda when visiting NY. This perfect little pocket of shoe heaven tucked away just off Bedford is a must for any Imelda, Imeldo or Imeldito... FIVE stars because: The store is very well curated, bright, fun and happy. Stocked with great brands in often hard to find colors and styles. I love that I can come in here and purchase a pair of Rachel Comey shoes or the same Salt Water sandals I wore in 5th grade, -in adult size! It's a true shoe store, focusing on current trends, wearability and quality all for diverse tastes and budgets. There aren't a million sales people asking if I need anything every five seconds and pushing a sale on me pretending that they care so they can meet their quota or commission. However... A word to the weary, this store is small, it gets busy and crowded, patience is a virtu here. Finding Williamsburg boutique employees that actually appear to enjoy interacting with their patrons in is no small feat, I tell you what. I love all the shoes they have. Even the mens shoes. I heard that Jeffrey Campbell designs a few shoes specifically for Shoe Market, pretty cool, huh? Sadly, I cannot afford to buy anything in this store. Cool and hip and you're in like Flynn... dressed in simple non-Williamsburg garb and you may be ignored. The gentleman has always been the best in terms of friendliness and overall helpful nature. I have bought several pairs at one time (as long as they have not sold out of my size, which they do often) They are kinda an in the moment place. If they are sold out, they are not so willing to call you when new shipment arrives (must not be commission based) So you are on your own if you really want a shoe. Overall worth the stop in. Not only is it a destination spot in Williamsburg, it's a great place for those of us who need a break from lower Manhattan's exorbitant prices. Ok, so this place is a little pricier than some other shoe stores. But Shoe Market is the only shoe store in the area, so I guess they can get away with that. Some people are just too lazy to take the L to Manhattan to shop (myself included). Shoe Market has a okay selection of shoes for both men and women. Heels, casual shoes, boots, etc for women. Sneakers and boots mainly for men. I've found some very cute things in there and they usually have a large sale selection with many $40-60 shoes. read more

This has always been one of the first places I check out if I am in need of a pair of shoes, but frequent shopper has turned into loyal customer after my last run in with them. I bought an adorable pair of sandals that somehow broke way beyond repair in what was seemingly a fast amount of time (but definitely past the retail-standard 30 days). I made the assumption it would be easier to fix myself and tried my shoe guy who told me to say "bye bye and good night" to them. I called shoe market to see if they had advice on what to do (I loved these shoes - i was fighting for them!) and Scott told me just to bring them in. When I stopped by, I wasn't expecting very much since I thought it was becoming a lost cause - but Scott switched them out without hesitation and was incredibly helpful while doing so. Seriously - customer service like that is hard to come by these days, and it is what makes one store stand out from another. I want to love shoe market. I really really do. Why you ask...because there isn't a damn shoe store for miles and miles in this hood. So...I wanted it to be love. But it truly just isn't. i want to want to wear cheezy old Jeffrey Campbell that you can find at Urban...and EVERY other shoe store in the city. I want to want to want to want... If my only complaint was that it was so typically trendy and expected, that would be one thing...but I have to complain about the service I got there. The shoeboy was first of all pretty busy. They were having a sale and I can understand being flustered and busy, I work in retail so I am probably one of the most patient people when it comes to this, but it was a little ridiculous. He was on the phone and was VISIBLY annoyed at all the girls in the shop asking him to try on shoes. He didn't get off the phone either. Oh no! He kept the phone to his ear while he went searching for shoes, and okay whatever. When it was finally my turn he brought me the wrong shoes, then the wrong size and then told me that the shoes I wanted were in those boxes (pointing to a stack of unopened merchandise). I was cool with waiting so I hung back while he (still on the phone) proceeded (for a good 10 minutes) to rifle through the boxes. I felt like I was putting him out so I told him to call me when he came across them. I really liked those trendy typical little shoes. I never got that phone call. Bought a $320 pair of Red Wing Boots. Received little to no help in regards to sizing and break-in, nor did they even lace up the boots like most shoe stores do when you spend that much money in an almost empty store. The leather broke in after a few days and they are, in fact, too large. Thankfully the Red Wing store in Sunnyside provides amazing service and swapped them out free of charge. Red Wing has a customer for life, but I will never return to Shoe Market again. read more

I have been going to Show Market for the about 3 years now. Always loved this place. They always have a great selection of shoes to choose from. I know when buying a pair of shoes from here I was assured no friends or coworkers would have the same shoes. Made me feel unique and like a had a secret shoe spot. I would only recommend Shoe Market to close friends and strangers that would compliment me about my shoes on the street. Overall, I considered myself a dedicated customer till last few weeks. I haven't been to Shoe Market for about 6 months now due to work travels. Finally, I back in the city a few weeks ago and back to my old shoe addiction with Shoe Market. The first time back at Shoe Market was the worst experience in my life. It was all new employees and didn't have the welcoming environment like before. The two individuals that helped me were very rude and appeared annoyed. The first girl was Brittany, she was not very attentive or caring. It looked like she came to work after a long night of drinking and seamed hungover. I wasn't the only customer that felt this way either. A woman that was there before me ask if I suspected she was being rude too. In the middle of me trying on shoes she stormed out and didn't say nothing to me. I tried to wave her down but she didn't look and walked out. Next I was being helped by Jen. She seamed very annoyed that I asked for her help. Additionally she asked me in an annoyed voice "Who was help you?" The whole time she helped me out she was rude and annoyed. I would asked her questions and opinions and every word that came out her mouth was very condescending. At one point she began to get upset and bothered from all my requests. She rolled her eyes three times when I asked for a different size. Her body language began to be very uninviting and she began to display superiority in her tone and body language. Eventually Brittany returned and Jen stopped her in her path. They didn't know that my husband was standing by the register and was able to hear their entire conversation. According to my husband Jen was upset at her leaving, both using inappropriate language, and upset for her having to help with her customer. Jen also began to make rude comments about me. My husband informed me that she called me several names and how I was annoying. After I paid for the 5 pairs of 8 that I tried on and left my husband told me something I would never in my dreams feel this would happen openly in this store. She openly called me "a Jewish yuppy bitch" and Brittany agreed. Before I left I ask Jen if there was a Manager I could speak with. Low and behold she said she was the Manager on duty. After having a few words with Jen, I was very turned off and outraged with the service provided by Shoe Market. She in no way can speak or carry herself as a manager. She sounds very uneducated, uninviting, and lacked the skills needed as a Manager. She also possesses inappropriate communication skills with her fellow employees and is unable to carry herself like a Manager while speaking with a customers. A few days later I had my husband returned the shoes I bought. Having them in my possession shows that I promote and support the vision, and acceptable actions that Brittany and Jen has set for Shoe Market as a company. I do not know how an owner can hire employees that can say these comments about their customer. As a manager myself, I would have had these ladies fired immediately for these actions. From this day forward, I will never recommend Shoe Market to anyone. This experience makes me question what happens behind closed doors or off work amongst the employees, especially Brittany and Jen. read more

This is a shoe lovers haven... all the convenience of a Manhattan shoe store in Williamsburg for all to enjoy.
