After coming back from the airport after a 5 hour flight I need some good hearty food and my 6 year old wanted pasta....or rather Olive Garden which I am not a huge fan of. So we came here instead. The place itself you would be surprised that it is located in the Bronx and that it is so spacious. It is not advertised as fine dining however you get the impression it is with the valet parking and the waitstaff....however if you go in with jeans you will be treated just the same. The prices are modest and the portions are huge....it does not say shareable on the menu but clearly two people can eat well from one dish. The wait for service is not long at all and waitstaff is super friendly. This place is a very family oriented and kid friendly spot.....I will be going back simply for that. I continued with my pasta cravings and after a bad experience trying a new place with raving reviews, I wanted a place I knew I was going to enjoy it and this restaurant did not disappoint. My partner and I decided decided to try entrées we have never eaten before, and were impressed. The roasted garlic sauce of my ravioli was beyond delicious and velvety. My partner said his tortellini was cheesy and their traditional vodka sauce is really good. The servers are always friendly, and the decor is very pretty. I've been going to the Pine for 50 years, since I was a kid. The service has always been excellent and it continues to be. All of my Italian friends warned me no to go, telling me that it's not good anymore. I went anyway bc the food was always excellent. Unfortunately, the food is not. The clams oregenato have always been so delicious. They were terrible. It was all breadcrumb. Looked and tasted like the frozen ones in the supermarket. Such a disappointment bc they were always a go-to on the appetizer list. Ordered the rigatoni ragu entree and it was tasteless. The sauce was salty and tasteless. What happened?! Either they have new cooks that don't know how to cook Italian food or they have changed ownership. I don't know but it was such a disappointment. It needs to stop cooking for the masses, and get back to its former quality Italian cooking. Will give it a few months and try again. If it doesn't improve, they will continue to lose lifelong customers of which they have lost many. read more

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. They are not what they used to be. The food and service have definitely gone way down from what it was back in the 90s and early 2000's. (Although with the remolding, the place is very nice, aesthetically) I have noticed this happening slowly over the past few years as I usually make it a point to hit F&J whenever I am in or passing through the Bronx, if not for sit down, at least take out.) For now, I will concentrate on my latest experience. Four of us came in on a Sat night and were told 35-45 min wait, fair enough, so we went to the Bar. Great service and great drinks, the bartender was excellent (extremely friendly and knew how to make a drink.) When we were seated, that is when things started to go downhill. The waiter was rude throughout the whole meal. The Bus Person was also rude, looking to grab dishes and food before we were finished. They seemed more interested in turning over the table than providing a decent service. The service was generally poor, for example, we would expect an offer of grated cheese when ordering a pasta dish (no offer of cheese was made). Somehow, even the drinks that we ordered at the table were not nearly as good as when we ordered them at the bar a few minutes earlier (not sure how that happens). The food was for the most part mediocre and not what I drove all the way the Bronx for. The four of us shared 2 appetizers, 3 dishes and an additional side. (The waiter made it a point to highlight that..."Only 3 dishes?" with a sarcastic tone). A few of the items we ordered were things that F&J used to make better than anyone (Fried Calamari, Potato Croquettes and Penne Vodka). All were just "ok" and nothing to rave about. We also had the baked clams as an appetizer along with Gnocchi Pesto and Chicken Caprese as the other entrees. These were good, but no better than any other Italian place. We also had a couple of cappuccinos and 2 orders of Tiramisu. These were good, but again, no better than any other place. Sad to say, nothing that I ate would make me want to come back and order again. To end on a positive note, the night we ate they had a musician playing Italian music with and accordion. read more

We ordered The Gnocchi Pesto, Pescatore Pizza, Veal Milanese, Lobster Ravioli , Surf and Turf, and Linguini Pescatore. Ask us which dish was our favorite is hard for us to decide. We enjoyed each and every dish here. The Gnocchi Pesto was soft, tender and pillowy. Basil pesto sauce tasted fresh, with a hint of nuttiness from the pine nuts. The Pescatore Pizza was rich and savory with a variety of seafood on top. Veal Milanese was tender, juicy and flavorful. The Lobster Ravioli was creamy with a hint of sweetness from the lobster. On top of that you taste this rich and buttery lobster mixture in the ravioli. Surf and Turf at F&J Pine is surfing with buttery lobster tail to fulfill your seafood appetite and turfing with a nicely cooked medium rare steak. read more

Ok! Give it up for the BX. Lol This restaurant is huge, elegant, and gorgeous! I was invited to my friend's 40th birthday to celebrate with her family and my other friends. Since we had a reservation, we were seated immediately. The restaurant was packed but that did not hinder our waitor at all. There is also a coat check and a separate area to accommodate private parties. Our table was near the separate area so we were enjoying the music, and from the sound of it the DJ was on point with the music. The food was delicious!!! (sorry this statement needed it's own paragraph, lol) I had such a great time. Not only because I was with my home girls, but the drinks (red & white wines and waters already on the table) were good & because it was such a serene experience with family size meals. From the moment I walked inside I was excited about what the meal would be like. Very friendly staff greeted us outside as we had a large group and were coming from a funeral. The person who seemed to be in charge yesterday welcomed us and gave us condolences speaking and shaking hands with us all. The entrance was elegant and the restaurant decor, Italian chic! Beautiful is one word to sum up the vibe. We were sat at a large table towards the back of a second room that had another large group and immediately began out order. We had calamari, cheese bread, chicken parm, lobster ravioli, salmon ect . Each dish was made to perfection. Came on a weekday/Tuesday night for my mom's birthday. Service was quick and attentive, and it wasn't too crowded but there were a good number of other diners. Fried calamari was not as good as other places and a little chewy, but not at all bad! My stuffed pork chop was delicious, and I got croquettes, but might have paired better with pasta instead. F&J has definitely improved in decor, service and food. Hubby and I came here years ago and were not impressed. We never had the desire to ever visit again because we had such a bad experience. Recently a group of friends and we came out on New Year's Eve for a celebratory dinner in honor of our girlfriend's birthday. We were a party of nine, along with my babes and they accommodated us all. We were seated and they made space for the stroller. Our server was very nice. He was attentive and pleasant. We ordered apps, drinks and entrées and everything came out very good. The food isn't amazing but it is much better than it was years ago. They sent the table some warm bread and salads to share which was much appreciated. Hubby and I forgot to order appetizers but we're able to taste our friends' orders, including some arancini and seafood bisque which were both really good. I opted for the lamb chops but wish I had ordered a pasta dish instead. The preparation and quality of that entrée was not represented by the price. We had a birthday cheesecake for our friend and sang Happy Birthday to her before the end of the meal. Our server had no issues with splitting the bill amongst the couples so paying for our meal was easy. The only minor issue from the night was that my girlfriend's bill included the full tip despite all of the other couples tipping on their respective checks. I believe the restaurant is currently working with her to correct that mistake. Usually I give them 5 stars on Mother's Day. We always order take out. Today was the worst experience I've ever had. Where do I start. They cut the portion for the baked ziti. My son said it was soggy and he didn't even want to finish it. They gave linguini Instead or penne. 3 orders of chicken parm horrible today!! We ordered garlic bread and a salad. Which was missing from the order. They wouldn't replace it. The food was 45 minutes late. They didn't want to give me a receipt. I paid in cash. They couldn't find the order. The girl at the register lied and said she was a manager. I wanted to speak to one. Just a very disturbing mother's day!!! Last year they were great even during a pandemic. I am Not happy. The Pine was once a place where the meals left families with their hearts in bliss and their bellies full. After 15 years, I decided to visit and I must say the authentic flare that once made this place appealing has vanished in addition to the once intimate setting that has since been replaced with an open concept and poor waiter service. It is with a much sadness I admit the food was equally awful, it does no justice to Italian food... a shrimp scampi was bland without any evidence of lemon, parsley, or even an ounce of characters in this meal. All while my toddlers finger paint had a better pairing than the marinara which was weak. My toddler was left without a beverage, until he was given a glass cup. I look the menu on yelp i order pork Osso Buco with bed of gnocchi and potato croquettes for an appetizer I paid $41 dollars. I came home. I open my order and I find three pieces of potato croquettes, and a piece of pork osso buco on a aluminum pan without the gnocchi so I called them back and they told me they remove that from the menu two years ago I don't know who I should blame yield or f&J pine but I don't want thing. I will never go back there again because of the attitude of the person answer the phone and hear my complain so I give him one star sad because this place used to be one of the best in the Bronx!!! read more

Perfection! I came here last night to celebrate my 2year Anniversary with my partner and it was pure bliss. We called ahead of time to check if we needed to make a reservation but we were told that we could walk in and it could be a 30min wait. We had no problem with that so we ended up waiting in the bar section and got one of their signature cocktails. The customer service with host, servers and busboys were so welcoming. Very clean & organized restaurant with a really large menu that have many amazing dishes and drinks! I seriously couldn't stop talking about the food and I ended up taking food home! Even the packing for the leftovers were perfectly wrapped! This restaurant has valet parking as well! While I was waiting for my Uber the Valet workers seemed very much on point which is always good to know. I cannot wait to come here again and make this place a regular place to come to! I live in Brooklyn but when I work in The Bronx I always go to F and J Pine restaurant. I stopped in on Saturday and ordered a chicken parm sandwich. Excellent!!! 10 out of 10. So I decided I wanted a burger for lunch today (Sunday). I called and placed my order for the prime burger with American cheese with onions on the side. I picked the burger up and proceeded back to work. Opened the package and saw no cheese or sauce that is supposed to be on the burger. So I returned to the pine and informed them of the error. Ok no problem. I was expecting a fresh burger and fries because now it's cold. There was a gentleman there whom I said they're going to make a fresh burger right. He says "yes". Not even two minutes later the gentleman behind the counter hands me back the burger!?!? Really. I didn't know a burger can cook in two minutes. Needless to say it was the same burger with cheese that appeared to be torched. Absolutely not. I bring it back and ask for a refund. So the counter person addressed the man who I spoke to and said do you want to talk the gentleman about this. The man says I heard everything he had to say and he was supposed to get a fresh burger. So now I now I a person who I assume is the manager comes. Says nothing to me. No apology. No offer of a fresh burger. Nothing. He then hands me a receipt. And walks away. I have been going here over thirty years. And today is the very last time. I don't know what bug was up his but. Like I did something wrong by expecting a new burger and fries because they are ice cold also. I don't have nore do I want reheat my meal in a microwave. So bad business on such a nice place with good food. Also any one that I would have recommended will never know Frankie and Johnny pine restaurant again. One of the orders was a rack of lamb for my mom and she always gets it well done, we picked up the order and when we arrived home the rack of lamb was not cut and it was raw, I was unable to cut it due to the thickness of the bones, the only cooked part of the lamb was the outside... What a disappointment to have this uncooked meal for Easter, I called the manager and he stated I should have brought it back? They also do not cut the meat individually, I was an hour away and I would probably have to wait another hour and a half for the meal, what a disaster... Never again!!! read more

So first off I want to say the atmosphere is very good. When you walk in you have to get temperature scanned at the front door. You also have to sign in and leave your email address. I was let down by the taste of the food. I ordered the chicken parm and it could have used more flavor. It came with a side of pasta which I expected to be more since I thought it would be family style but it wasn't. The penne alla vodka had no flavor, I've tasted canned vodka sauce much better than what I had. For dessert, I ordered a gelato and it tasted terrible. It tasted extremely icy and fake. I've had much better gelato in the past from other places but this has got to be the worst. The coffee was also a mistake which we got charged for but didn't wanna argue so we kept it and paid for it anyway. Since we asked for espresso gelato which is one of the flavors, they brought over an espresso and charged us. A few years back F&J Pine was the go to place in the Bronx unfortunately in my opinion it's lost some of its thunder. Staff walk around like robots the personal touch is gone. It always felt like Sunday afternoon and your Italian neighbors. Now you can barely get a smile from the staff. Again the fact that this place is ALWAYS crowded should be a good sign as to the quality of their food. It is a family style eatery so bring the kids and take a break from the kitchen.
