Just like its sister restaurants Ettan and Copra, Eylan has an absolutely gorgeous interior with intricate, breathtaking murals and decorations! Just stepping into the restaurant is a feast for the senses, but even more so was experiencing the menu of Californian and Indian-inspired flavors. Our knowledgeable server walked us through everything from the drinks to the snacks, breads, and wood-fired dishes to help us craft the perfect dining experience! We started with the Eylan Crispy Chicken, an appetizer of four breaded boneless chicken thighs, served with the most delectable chili crisp aioli on the side (a spicy, creamy, umami dip that turned out to be one of my favorite condiments here). The Dungeness Crab Mutabar was a pan-fried rectangular flatbread from Kerala, stuffed with a filling of Dungeness crab and served with a spiced poppy seed dip on the side. Eylan specializes in its wood-fired dishes, and we jumped right into our mains. The Fava Bean Composition was a creative take on saag paneer, made with a base of fava bean saag puree, topped with three blocks of crumbly paneer, each dressed with fava beans, mint, and ghee on top--this was a creative seasonal Spring dish, though relatively mild in flavor. The Sea Bream was an impressive-looking whole, boneless, butterflied fish grilled over wood fire and served with a spicy coconut-fish bone broth and a 9 grain kitchadi topped with Brussels sprouts. Finally, we had the Roasted Cornish Hen, made of boneless pieces of Cornish hen in a tangy "tomatillo butter chicken sauce". The green-colored sauce was my favorite curry, which went nicely with the selection of flatbreads we ordered, including the handkerchief-thin romali roti; the sweet kulcha stuffed with paneer and dried fruit; and my favorites, a chewy, gooey fermented rice pancake (similar to appam), and a crispy, flaky latcha paratha with herbs in between the layers! Overall, the food here was on the pricey side, but every dish was so creative and delicious, and the service and atmosphere were top-notch! read more

Wow! I've been to a few Michelin star restaurants and the food experience was amazing. The flavors here are what stood out for me. The service was high class and very knowledgeable about each dish. In true form there was a shpiel for everything. I had their twist on an old fashion which used rum for more of a tropical vibe. Not my favorite but it didn't take away from the meal. Each starter and small plate packs da punch of flavor. The branzino was hard to share because if you don't have the right piece it gets a bit boney. If you're looking for a place that delivers on flavor, presentation, and service, this spot absolutely nails it. We visited recently and had an outstanding meal from start to finish. The Sigri Kabab and Taro Root Chaat were phenomenal appetizers -- bursting with flavor and beautifully executed. California Indian With Eylan, star chef Srijith Gopinathan behind Palo Alto's Ettan and San Francisco's Copra, the Bay Area has cemented its place as one of the international cities alongside London where Indian cuisine shines. As a fan of Ettan when we dined during the pandemic and had one of our most memorable desserts, I had high expectations for Eylan: Gorgeous interior. Check. Stellar (bartop) service. Check. Wood-fire cuisine. Check It's the final attribute of Eylan focusing on wood fire cuisine that elevates this restaurant beyond other Indian restaurants locally. Proteins, but also hearty vegetables, are ideal for cooking with wood m-fire and that heat isn't easy replicable at home. The results are flavorful and robust dishes that are just a joy to eat. Most are served alongside stellar sauces. Finally made it to Eylan! Have followed Chef Srijith's journey for a really long time! The ambience speaks volume of Ayesha Thapar's designs. It is so hard to get reservation here. We ended up finding one for Sunday. Let's talk about food. They don't have tasting menu on Sundays. Everything comes shareable. We started with couple of snacks and non alcoholic drinks. I got flava flav and my wife got spritz. Flava flav was actually pretty good. Our server Arjun recommended a few snacks and breads. We went with their pani puri - that was pretty tasty - 4*. And, we also got Bellweather farm ricotta - basically dahi kebab but with ricotta cheese - i loved that, my wife didn't so much - 4*. Server recommeded crispy chicken, but we skipped that. For bread, we got eylan's eye - that was yummm! 5* Then, we also orderd chicken sigri - that was delicious. Smokey and little bit tangy with the right amount of spices, perfectly balanced. 5* Server recommended seekh kebab but we decided to try sigri instead. For the large shareables, we debated ordering lamb chop and yakhni. Ended up ordering both and took leftover home. Yakhni pulaao: chicken was perfectly dum, but the pulaao itself was not that great. Yakhni is supposed to be much milder in spices. This did not pack the punch we expected. 3*. Lamb chop is one of the most popular dishes there. It probably needed some part of the fat to be taken out or rendered more - spices and marination was flavorful but i got a big chunk of not properly rendered fat in my bite that destroyed my palate. The ghee rice that came with lamb was yum - oozing with ghee haha.. 3.5* We went for the coconut pudding dessert. That needs a lot of work. So so flavorful Starters: The chilled green grape chaas was the perfect first bite -- refreshing, limey, crunchy, a mild punch in the face. I'm always a sucker for hamachi and this was one of the most fun hamachi dishes I've had, it was paired with fried sesame leaf and oh my goodness wow. Taro root chatat was pretty good though I wouldn't order again, felt a bit too sweet for a starter. Grill: I'm generally not a huge fan of chicken, but the anar chicken kebab was truly extraordinary, and the sauce pairing was tangy and spicy. Amazing. Cornish hen also tasted unique, the waiter said it's butter chicken made with green tomatoes to give it a nice citrusy kick. Service has gone down a bit here, we came here for date night dinner. Place was very busy on sunday night, we had reservation so they promptly set us on our booth. Menu has changed little bit and we didnt find lots of options. Food came out slightly cold and there was lots of time in between the food when no server dropped by to check on us. We had to wait quite a bit between appetizer and main dish to order. This time we had sheek kabaka, tanduri mashroom, cabbage and rumali roti. Food taste as always was great but drinks were average. Interiors look beautiful and the vibe is very lively. Great for a group setting or duo. Food was tasty but something about it just didn't hit. Chicken dishes and small plates were delicious and as a group of 4 we got almost one of each to share and that in itself was very fulfilling so by the time we reached the main plates we were stuffed! Beautifully decorated but quite dim making our forty year old eyes challenged to read the menu. The chaat and lamb kebab were my favorites but spice levels on some of the items that didn't appear to be spicy or need to have heat were too much for the kids. The eye of eylan bread was delicious but you can't go wrong with truffle and egg! There were some issues with a dish coming out late and dessert taking a long time but the server was very nice about it and they took care to mention everyone that our dishes were shellfish free after I let them know about my shrimp allergy. read more

I've been a huge fan of copra and Ettan since they opened a few years ago - however, eylan completely missed the mark and how - mostly cause their really petty attitude. Last year I went to copra 7 times so I'm quite familiar with the food and cuisine. This time round we decided to switch it up and go to eylan for my birthday which was obviously a terrible idea. We wanted to get a lighter dinner so we ordered only 1 bread, 2 small plates and 1 main. The server wanted us to order 2x the amount of food and wasn't too happy with this. The Dungeness crab bread was good and so was the anar chicken. We also ordered the black cod on the servers recommendation - who said it was like copras. This dish was nothing like copras black cod pollichathu (which we love) - instead the black cod was extremely fishy and the extremely fishy taste overpowered even the tamarind sauce. Black cod is a staple for us when we eat at copra or even other restaurants so we know how the fish is supposed to taste - and this one was just off. When we told the server this he said he was happy to take it back but when we told him we didn't want anything else, he brought us the bill without the black cod on it but made sure that he added a side of coconut rice (we didn't specifically order this but we did eat the rice that came with the black cod). While it was totally fair for them to charge us for the rice we ate, adding it to the bill separately without informing us was a really petty thing to do that will pretty much ensure that we won't be coming back here and has left a sour taste in our mouth for future copra and Ettan visits too. Hope the $6 for the rice was worth it! read more

If you are vegetarian, there are some good options but kind of feel like it might not be totally worth it. It's great if you're in the area, but not sure if it's worth making a special trip out. The chicken was excellent though, as were the drinks, service, and appetizers. The vegetarian mains lacked that second level punch though. Still very good! read more

We've been to Ettan and Copra, and I have to say, this latest restaurant from Chef Sri is my absolute favorite. At our first visit, we decided to go with the pre-fixe and every single course did not disappoint. The standouts were the chilled green grape chaas, the oysters and the black cod, but seriously, everything was delicious and an absolute great value for I believe 10-12 course meal. We were definitely full by the end of this meal! Outstanding wine program also with great recommendation for white burgundy from the sommelier. And this restaurant is beautifully designed! So many amazing design details - makes you forget they're located in a residential plaza. I'd like to give a special thanks and shout out to our server, Aisha. She's amazing. Warm, friendly, attentive and just makes you feel taken care of. I ended up coming back to dine again just a few days later and sat at the bar with my daughter. Aisha recognized me right away, came over and greeted us with a smile. Definitely made me and my daughter feel special and welcomed right away. Although she wasn't our server, she would check in and at the end of our meal, she gave us a beautiful dessert to enjoy. Nice touch and very much appreciated. I highly recommend coming here. This place definitely lived up to the hype! Parking was easy using the lot behind the restaurant or the parking garage. There was so much signage in the garage, it's impossible not to know how to get to the restaurant. Once you take the elevator up you come to a large wooden door. This must be it! When you open the door you are transported to a soothing environment. The hues inside the restaurant are neutral and there are lots of large potted trees. I felt like I was in someone's backyard garden having a meal. It felt so relaxed. They have some great, unique, cocktails so start with a cool drink. On to the food - it's all served family style and there are about three portions of each dish. The serving size was ample. I love being able to sample a variety of dishes so this set-up sounded great to me. Some of the items we ordered were: - Taro Root Chaat - a fun take on traditional Chaat, but incorporating taro root. All the traditional Chaat flavors were there - it was a great. - Chilled Green Grape Chaas - another great take on pani-puri. The "water" was so good, we poured the excess portion into our drinking glasses. We couldn't let it go to waste. This was a great dish to start the night. - Cured Hamachi - this was a very delicate dish. It was not overpowered by any one flavor. The fried curry leaf on the side was a nice touch, but a bit oily. - Eylan Crispy Chicken - oh wow!!! The coating was so crunchy and crispy, we were amazed to find the inside of the chicken was so tender. I can see why the restaurant wanted to put their name on it. This was a hearty portion and probably one of our table's favorites. The hot sauce that accompanies the dish was great too. - Lamb Chop - this was more like a main dish and a larger portion. By the time this and the cod arrived we were getting full. This dish reminded me of Rogan Josh. The chop was westernized, but the sauce you pour over it, had the Indian flavors. I really liked it. - Charred Black Cod - another nice, delicate fish dish. It was not overpowering. We were full, but felt like we had to try a couple of bites of dessert. We got the Shrikhand and Masala Chai Sundae. Both were very different. The Shrikhand was a night light, fruity dessert. The Sundae was heavier because the strong chai flavors came through. There was no doubt they were able to recreate the chai flavors. While we liked both, the table liked the Shrikhand better. Well done Eylan! I'll be spreading the word. read more

Not many options for vegetarians For drinks, we ordered the Tamarind drink which was really good and Nero red wine which was ok. Great restaurant and my favorite out of Ettan & Copra. Note: my review is very fish and meat focused (not vegetarian). If you are a fan of wood-fired dishes, you will love Eylan. The location of Eylan is better than Copra, in my opinion. Ettan's dishes were also not as well prepared as Eylan's. Lastly, the interior of Eylan seems a bit more trendy and nice compared to Ettan (comparable to Copra but more tight knit/smaller place overall). Parking at the restaurant is very easy. There is a parking garage (careful if you have a low car as the slope is steep) directly underneath the restaurant with an elevator that you can take to the first floor. Eylan will be the big door right after you step out of the elevator. We had a reservation at 5pm and were seated immediately. Service was great! Table was cleaned and dishes cleared after almost every dish. Water was also refilled very promptly. Drink: Techies, Guns & Money (4/5) this drink was made like an old fashioned and was definitely on the stronger side. I don't typically like old fashions but there was a pandan leaf on it that helped bring a slight nuttiness to the drink. Appetizers were both 5/5! Crispy chicken - very nicely fried. Crispy/crunchy yet the batter still felt light when you chewed it. The chicken was very soft and could have been pieced up using a fork. The house chili aioli paired very well and wasn't insanely spicy but gave a good kick and spice. Hamachi - very surprised with this dish. Hamachi was very fresh. The masala buttermilk gave a slight creaminess to the hamachi, which paired well with the crunchiness of the sesame leaf pakoda. The leaf itself didn't have a strong taste but it was a great crispy vessel for the hamachi. Bread: we opted for the Eylan Eye (3.5/5) which was a disappointment when eaten by itself. The bread was soft and a little flaky, but I did not taste any truffle. For $28, I would not order this again. Even though the taste wasn't all there, when the bread was combined with the crispy chicken, it was quite nice. I would opt for one of the cheaper bread options next time. Wood Fire Grill: Chicken and lamb kebab: (4.5/5) again, the chicken was even softer than the crispy chicken and had a slight char/crisp to the edges. Tasty, especially with the masala on the side. The lamb had a nice chili ghee at the bottom of the plate which was not spicy but did give a hint of spiced flavor to the lamb. I actually think the lamb had slightly more spice and flavor to it than the chicken. The lamb could easily be separated with a fork as well - very tender. I wish we would have got extra bread or some sort of carb to balance out the richness of the chicken and lamb. Black cod - (4.5/5) nicely cooked and came apart easily with a fork or knife. Some parts of the skin were slightly over salted, but once you got past that, it was great. The curry sauce came on the side so you could pour it over your rice and fish. It was a lighter curry in my opinion but it worked well with the lightness of the cod. The entire dish felt very clean and not rich. Dessert - Masala Sundae (5/5) great dessert that had a great mix of crunch, sweetness, and softness from the ghee cake. It was not overly sweet at all and the chai wasn't too overbearing (I don't typically like chai). This was a great way to end the meal! read more

Nestled in the first floor of an office complex like setup, Eylan is the latest addition to Bay Area's growing collection of Indian cuisine restaurants with distinctive food offerings. Our dinner experience was great, the ambience and service are top notch. Food options we loved were the Anar Chicken Sigri Kebab and the Flaxseed Poee's avocado thecha. The Eylan Crispy Chicken is delicious but tad bit oily to our taste. We didn't really get the Eylan Eye, but did enjoy the King Trumpet Mushrooms rendition. Lastly the Yakhani Pulao was well made, portion wise there was more meat than rice. Overall great to see another fine dining restaurant with an "experience". We're always looking for Indian fine dining in the Bay Area so we're super excited to try eylan. They have a beautiful earthy ambience and ample parking in the building. We tried the buttermilk pani puri which was an interesting take on the traditional, would definitely recommend trying it, for true pani puri lovers, it doesn't come close to the original flavor though. The flaxseed bread with dips (raita, thecha and Bharta) was a fantastic way to upgrade a lot of dishes we typically wouldn't expect to see in a fine dining. The most delicious of them all was their tandoori chicken. Mains are a little limited on options especially for vegetarians and those who don't necessarily enjoy gamey meat, we ended up trying the cauliflower which was great but nothing extraordinary. The dessert (chai tea sundae) was quite disappointing with very strong chai masala flavor, it could be a winner if they focused more on the tea flavor! read more

Our group of four was excited to make a Thurs night reservation here during its early opening months. Given our experience at sister location Ettan, we had high hopes. We dressed biz casual for the night. Inside, the decor and ambiance were nice, though the lighting was a bit dark and the tables are very close together. It was kind of hard to hear your tablemates over the bustling of the restaurant. I guess that bodes well for a newly minted restaurant, but maybe not as ideal for a conversational table. You get the feeling they really tried to cram as many tables as possible in an awkward, not-big-enough-space. The restrooms were nice and clean enough, though you'll feel like you're dining and dashing to find them lol. I do have musings on why an Indian restaurant especially would not clearly display what's vegetarian or not on each menu line item. Hopefully they've fixed that by now. In terms of dishes, there were a couple standouts* for us, but overall we were not that impressed. Would give 3.5 stars. We ordered the puchka (good flavors and super crispy shell), taro root chaat (too sweet for my taste), two bread dishes (one came with an eggplant/raita/avocado dip which was okay, and the other was an asparagus based one which was good), chicken seekh kabab (which was decent), shrimp something (which my husband says was fresh and succulent), and the yakhni pulao (which was the best of the lot). Overall, maybe my expectations were too high, and I didn't feel like I got what I paid for. Service was also quite mediocre and nothing to write home about. Overall ambience is also very nice and it's great to see another upscale Indian restaurant come up The service was very spotty though - which is the reason for the low rating. It was my birthday and the hostess acknowledged it right away, which was great. However there was nothing from our server or any other staff - no offer for a celebration, no wish etc. One of the servers randomly came to our table, picked up the menu in front of my 7 year old son and said 'do you mind if I take this menu and give it to an adult at another table - we are short on menus'. Had a wonderful dinner opening night with friends. The service was very friendly and attentive. The decor is just as beautiful as their other restaurants. The food came out quickly and here were a few of my favorites! Small bites: Fried chicken Taro root vegan dish Mains: King trumpet mushrooms Black cod Cornish Hen Desserts: Milk ice cream I had the two fruity mocktails which were also delicious. We went to Eylan to for my husband's birthday dinner. We were totally impressed by the menu and quality of food. The menu is pretty unique and they recommend ordering 3-4 courses together so they get time to prepare. They give almost a royal treatment to their customers with each dish explained to the customer when served. The only downside I felt was the place can get a bit noisy and heard to talk in quite. But will definitely go again for the food. read more

We went here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The place was quite busy even on a Monday evening. Decor and ambience - Excellent Service - quite good especially given that Indian restaurants notoriously have bad service even when they are competing in the high end space. Food: We ordered quite a few vegetarian options and liked EVERYTHING! My favorite was the pani puri with chaas, then taro root chaat. The flaxseed pita bread was good, not great. Can skip it. Although the dip it came with was quite decent. We ordered the celebration dessert. AMAZING! Areas for improvement: I had ordered hot water with lemon. They never refreshed my lemon, nor did the hot water keep coming. They did bring out a tea pot eventually but that doesn't keep the water hot. I went to another Italian place in Palo Alto a couple days ago and the server knew what he was doing when it came to my hot water. The water never went below half mark. Second, they do not have any complimentary dessert or special acknowledgment for special occasions. They did put a candle on the dessert I ordered though but I was expecting better. read more
