My only reservation to recommend Be Spectacled is how difficult they make it to select lenses once you have picked out some frames. An associate literally read aloud my options off their computer monitor, without clarifying the costs or features. When I selected the basic lenses, they said I didn't want those (then why even offer them?). I never really understood what I was getting or paying. I didn't even see an itemized receipt until I picked up my glasses ($275 for lenses, oof). It all felt rushed, opaque and like I was getting up-sold at a car dealership. If they would be more clear and transparent about lense options and costs (maybe put it all on a flyer you can hand to the customer), this place would be an easy five-star review.

I'm happy to say that changed recently. I made my appointment, had my eyes checked, and got my prescription. They have a nice selection of glasses to choose from and are super helpful in finding your pair. "What style are you thinking of trying?" she asked "Bold frames!" I exclaimed with confidence apropos of nothing. And, bold frames I got. And, now, I can see the world. Shining. Shimmering. Splendid. Get to it!

I liked the small, local shop feel, but I found there to be some lack of professionalism as they talked among themselves and there were even dogs allowed in the office. In my opinion that's just weird for a doctor's office unless it's a service dog. I wore a mask despite being vaccinated because that's my preference and I knew getting my eye exam and trying on glasses would require me to be up close with the doctor and techs. I was told "you don't have to wear that." It just felt unnecessary. The hallway down to the actual doctor's office was a bit untidy and then the doctor's office was pretty worn looking too. The lenses they had me look through to test my vision had some damage to them that couldn't be easily wiped off, and this made it hard for me to tell if I was getting an accurate vision test. I liked the doctor for the most part but she casually mentioned that due to my astigmatism, I have a significantly higher chance of retinol detachment, which I hadn't known and her casual tone was a bit alarming. When I tried to ask more questions I felt a little dismissed and she basically just said "don't worry about it because worrying doesn't help." I would have rather known more about the science behind her statement and it would have been nice to be given some resources. I don't think Bronze is the place for me but it does beat the long wait time at LensCrafters. I also like the idea because it's a small practice you can get to know the doctor rather than just seeing someone random like at Lenscrafters. I'll be on the lookout for a new eye doctor that accepts my insurance.

Bronze didn't sell me these frames, but was enthusiastic about the retro look and arranged for a quick fitting and turnaround. Warm, personal, competent, professional service. They communicate clearly what they are doing at all times and make the eye exam an easy process. My youngest child in glasses was only 4 when he began treatment and with his special needs with adhd and his anxiety they worked well with him. Over the years we have seen Dr German for continued care and he is patient and very calm in his practice. The once 4 year old is now 15 and we will continue care as long as our eyes need it. One of my children needed to see a retina specialist and the office worked with us to get her scheduled at that office. With insurance changes we have gone sporadically to other optometrists and ophthalmologists but the care we received elsewhere just doesn't compare to lakeshore.
