I recently went to Bronze Optical for an eye exam. I found the staff really friendly but almost a little too laid back. I liked the small, local shop feel, but I found there to be some lack of professionalism as they talked among themselves and there were even dogs allowed in the office. In my opinion that's just weird for a doctor's office unless it's a service dog. I wore a mask despite being vaccinated because that's my preference and I knew getting my eye exam and trying on glasses would require me to be up close with the doctor and techs. I was told "you don't have to wear that." It just felt unnecessary. The hallway down to the actual doctor's office was a bit untidy and then the doctor's office was pretty worn looking too. The lenses they had me look through to test my vision had some damage to them that couldn't be easily wiped off, and this made it hard for me to tell if I was getting an accurate vision test. I liked the doctor for the most part but she casually mentioned that due to my astigmatism, I have a significantly higher chance of retinol detachment, which I hadn't known and her casual tone was a bit alarming. When I tried to ask more questions I felt a little dismissed and she basically just said "don't worry about it because worrying doesn't help." I would have rather known more about the science behind her statement and it would have been nice to be given some resources. I don't think Bronze is the place for me but it does beat the long wait time at LensCrafters. I also like the idea because it's a small practice you can get to know the doctor rather than just seeing someone random like at Lenscrafters. I'll be on the lookout for a new eye doctor that accepts my insurance. read more

For me the real test of a business doesn't come when things go smoothly, but rather when there is an unavoidable glitch. I recently experienced a product failure with my favorite frames from Bronze. The problem was resolved without delay and delivered with an apology for any inconvenience I experienced. Replacement was handled in a week and fitted the next day. I also brought in some frames I have not worn in 20 years, but wondered if they could be fit with new lenses. Bronze didn't sell me these frames, but was enthusiastic about the retro look and arranged for a quick fitting and turnaround. Warm, personal, competent, professional service. I loved my experience with Bronze Optical. Staring with scheduling with Justine, it couldn't have been easier. She checked my insurance ahead of time for preauthorization and called me back to schedule an appointment that worked perfectly with my schedule. When I arrived I felt so welcomed, specifically because the owner set me up with my paperwork and even offered me water or tea. I get the feeling that Bronze introduces himself to every new patient and that is such a thoughtful touch that goes a long way. The decor is also lovely - kind of an arts and crafts style and it feels like you're in someone's home. My exam with Dr. Cook was very thorough and I thought he was just fantastic. He has a very relaxed demeanor, which puts you right at ease, and he explains everything along the way. I felt like he and I were working together to find the best contacts and prescription for me, not like other doctors where they just tell you what it is. After my exam, I met with Tamia who helped me figure out how best to maximize my insurance benefit (glasses vs. contacts) and look at some frames. She was wonderful and helped make sense of it all. How have I not written a review for Bronze Optical yet? Anyway, let me tell you about my latest experience: I walked in without an appointment, and it had been over a year since I've been there. Bronze looked at me and said "Steve, I suspect it is time for new glasses. I just got a new shipment of Dutz lenses, and there is one particular pair that I know you will just love." His colleague went into the back room and brought out the pair he was talking about, and i purchased them within minutes! Be impressed that he knew my name within seconds of being there. Be impressed that he remembered the type of glasses that I liked (including the COLOR) within seconds of being there. Be ready to receive the best customer service you will ever receive when you go there. I like to talk about my new glasses with people, but I enjoy more telling them about the experience of getting them! When I wore my new glasses, during the first few weeks, my friends didn't say to me "oh you got new glasses" they said to me, instead, "Oh you went and saw Bronze!" Product is one thing, service is everything. Speaking of product, Bronze has an interesting and exciting blend of frames for just about everyone. Really, if you are in the market for new frames this is where you need to go. Yes, you may pay a bit more, but the service and care that you receive makes it all worth it. I recently went looking for a new pair of frames after a few years of enjoying the ones I had. I wanted an update. Something a little different - but not too far off the map. Well, Bronze didn't have great news for me. My vision insurance had changed to VSP and well, he was considered out of network. :( So, I sat for a bit and thought about what I was going to do. He then let me know what he does for out of network customers. He gives you 20% off the frame price, which many times can come close to what your in network frame benefit is! I opted to look around while he adjusted my current pair of frames, and found a couple that I was interested in. Bronze came out with about 10 more for me to try - and THIS is why I love it here so much. He actually helps you pick out frames. He gives you honest feedback and opinions on what looks good and what will work for you - unlike your run of the mill retail eye doctor that makes you do most of the work in choosing. So, back to my out of network problem. Don't fret. With the 20% discount I came to within $10 of my frame benefit. Sold. He did guide me to return to my eye doctor to get the lenses I needed put in as they were in network and would cover far more than he could for the lenses. No problem. I found some great frames and was so happy to give Bronze my business. I have had to wear glasses since I was in the 6th grade (we won't talk about the bifocals my parents made me wear back then cause it is too embarrassing). This entire time I have always worn what I will refer to as 2/$99. You all know what i mean.....the 1 hour, all in one, eyeglass shop on the corner. You go in, get an eye exam, pick out two pair of the cheapest frames, that don't necessarily fit your face or even look good (but they are cheap), hand them over to the girl behind the counter, come back an hour later, let them fit the glasses the best they can on your face and out you walk with 2 pair of glasses that will help you see better than if you aren't wearing any. At 35, I figured it was about time that I made an investment in my first pair of big girl glasses. I asked around on the best place to go. Several people suggested that I wouldn't get better service than Bronze Optical. I had also heard getting glasses at Bronze was more of an experience than anything, so appointments are necessary. You can't just walk in off of the street and expect them to drop everything for you. The first appt. was to pick out my frames. Luckily Tony K. offered to go along for moral support (and most likely because he was going to get 10% off his next frames for the referral). I was impressed. They took a look at the frames I was previously wearing, caught on that I like purple, and picked out about 20 different frames for me to try on. I went through the 20 one by one, putting them in a "Like" and "Dislike" pile. Then going back to the "Like" pile until one hour later I narrowed it down to a fancy pair of purple Dutz frames with a white racing stripe. Never in that hour did I ever feel rushed. And, on my final decision I got a thumbs up from everyone in the store. I left feeling super excited about my first purchase of Big Girl Glasses. I was told they would take about 3 weeks to come in. I got a call 2 weeks later telling me my frames were in. I made an appt. to go in and get them fitted on my face. Again, I felt like a Rock Start. Having the appt. made sure that I was the most important customer at the time. They made sure my glasses fit perfectly, showed me the proper way to clean them, and sent me on my way with a box of congratulatory chocolates. I now proudly wear my "statement" purple glasses. I just got a chance to experience Bronze Optical while visiting my family over the holidays, mostly based on the positive experiences of friends and family who've gotten glasses there in the past. Walking in is a bit of shock for someone used to the Stien Optical treatment. Bronze runs his shop out of the converted downstairs of a Farwell Ave house. It's basically two rooms of frames with a couple of service counters in the back, a huge upgrade over the generic walls of glasses at most mall. This all pales in comparison to the service though. In the 45 minutes I spent there, I was offered a drink, had my current glasses cleaned and adjusted, looked through what felt like 57% of their 800 frame selection, paid and had my insurance forms filled out. Everyone at Bronze makes the process comfortable and easy, making it almost impossible to leave feeling anxious about the frames you picked. Only a couple other things to take note of. I'd strongly suggest that you call and make a appointment here. It is a very personalized experience getting help from the staff cannot be recommended highly enough. Parking is limited to a single space on the street in front of the building. With an appt, this is easy enough to grab, but you may need to walk several blocks otherwise. Finally, don't be scared off by the cost. While glasses run a little more expensively here than most places, the purchasing experience and how confident you feel about wearing your new frames still make it a relative bargain. Finally, Bronze makes it a point to only carry 1 of every frame, meaning you'l more than likely have a unique pair of glasses wherever you go. read more

Can something be both upscale and down to earth? Going to Bronze is like going to a really great spa without any pretentiousness. Just a great experience all around. Friendly and attentive service on the phone and in the office. I had an easy time making an initial appointment (for exactly the time I wanted the next day!) and my follow-up when my glasses came in about a week later. I was informed that they only sell a frame once, so your look will be unique. I was satisfied with the selection, it is slightly smaller than the big chain stores, but there is a good variety. And the frame prices are very comparable to other places that sell designer frames (I found out the 2/$99 deal actually only applies to a few crappy frames at those places). I was actually impressed with the affordability, my new pair cost just a bit more than my most previous pair that I bought four years ago at what is now called VisionWorks (but there I had a horrible customer service experience and an even worse frame cutting experience, as well as a 30 day wait for my glasses). This is also a really cool location. It feels like being in Bronze's living room. And his staff and he serve you like you are treasured guests. They don't rush you at all. They help you pick the right frame. After my order arrived, Bronze spent a good amount of time with me getting the fit right. He also strongly welcomes regular follow-ups for adjustments and nose pad replacements, included as part of an ongoing service in the purchase. I would go back and I would recommend to my friends. Like the other reviewers indicate, this is a place to get a nice pair of glasses that should last you quite a while. I fist went to Bronze in 2009. Before I always got whatever glasses were available at the pace where my doc was. I must say, I am hooked. The service is superb. Linda was the optician taking care of me and she was as sweet as can be. The office itself is really intimate, and I'm pretty sure they do all their appointments one at a time, so you really feel like they care about putting you in the right pair of glasses. She looks at your face type, skin/hair color, age, style, etc. to make sure you really love the glasses you leave with. She allowed me to go around the room, and she went around the room, each picking out all sorts of styles for me to try. Then she gives you her honest and professional opinion about each pair; narrowing it down to the perfect choice. Note: this is not a $99 eye glasses shop. You are paying for quality. I spent about $400 on my glasses and they have lased longer than ANY pair I got from previous places. They fit the best, and look the best on me. WELL WORTH THE PRICE. My goal when I went in was to find a pair of bright and fun glasses, and even though I didn't have an appointment scheduled, Sherry hung out with me for as long as it took to find a couple frames I really loved! Bronze is the absolute BEST optician I have ever been to. If there were a "horse whisperer" equivalent to an optician Bronze would be it! I always pick out ugly frames because, of course, I can't see myself when trying on glasses. Plus, the truth is that I don't have very good taste. I noticed a friend who always had very cute and unusual frames. She recommended I make an appointment and ask Bronze to pick out the frames for me. He picked out the perfect frames and I loved them. I got many compliments. I recently moved to Florida and needed new glasses. I got a new prescription but put off getting new glasses. I finally emailed my new prescription to Bronze and asked if he would consider picking out frames for me. He enthusiastically agreed to do so, and sent pictures of several options he thought would look nice. We agreed on a frame and Bronze sent the glasses! They are great and I have received many, many nice compliments! People stop me frequently to ask where I got my glasses. That said, the best service Bronze provided was when he recommended I get a second pair glasses for computer work. As an attorney I read and worked at the computer for many hours each day. I admit that my prescription is a bit of a challenge, so I really wanted a place that knows what it's doing. I also wanted a place that carried eyeglass frames that went beyond the mall optical choices of metal aviator frames or chunky plastic frames with some designer's logo on the sides. I was looking for frames that are different but not Elton John different. I was also looking for folks who could help me narrow down my choices that work well with my face, my age, and my prescription. I received all of this at Bronze Optical. What impressed me was their professionalism and personable service. When I called to find out their hours they asked when I was coming in so that they could arrange for either Bronze or Linda (the two opticians) to be available to work with me. I arrived for my appointment and both of them happened to be available. They examined my prescription and interviewed me to make certain I was working with frames that work with my prescription (which I appreciated immensely, since I have in the past selected a frame at a different store that got to the point where it was at the out-of-state lab that ended up calling the store to tell them it wouldn't work). They also took the time to learn what I was after... the look I wanted. They helped me narrow my choices down to two frames, which I really liked and ended up getting both. They measured, re-measured, and measured again to make certain that my lens would be ground properly. I like the experience I had there. I never felt rushed, nor did I feel like I was chewing up too much of their time. They did a great job giving me honest feedback on what works well with the shape of my face, my prescription, and what best matches my desire to have something that looks creative and edgy without making me look like I'm trying too hard. I was dreading the purchase of new glasses and it's something that has been on my "to-do" list for 3 years. I was referred by a friend who always wears super cool glasses and said "You need need to go to Bronze". Boy, was I happy I took his advice. One of the problems I have when purchasing new glasses is, I have no idea what looks good on my face. I also don't want to drag my husband along and be like "Do I look good in these? How about this one? Does these look weird? Do I look like a cat in these?" I am sure he could think of a million other places he would rather be, right? I was always intrigued with the selection, many unique frames, but afraid of the price tag-until I actually bit the bullet & decided to go thru with a consultation to get a better idea of what the total cost was. They accepted my vision insurance, which was an extra bonus, and gave me a discount on top of it. I got the most beautiful perfect glasses, & when I went into to pick them up I was given a free case, free cleansing spray, an education on how to clean them properly, a postcard to fill out to remind me to come back in a year to receive free maintenance on them (replacement of nose guards tightening of screws etc. if need be) AND these amazing chocolates as a thank you from them. I have been a customer of opticians for 20 years now and I can honestly say that I have never experienced such a pleasant time while picking out new glasses as I did when shopping at Bronze. His office is very warm and inviting, from the set up to the tea he offers you upon entering his store. The frame selection isn't huge, but I found a pair of glasses that I absolutely loved. I wish I could say this about more people, but it seems to be a dying trait when one can say they have had a positive customer service experience.
