Just got my new prescription refilled by Optix' team as well as a scratch repair/replace on my second pair of Lindberg glasses! Since I moved to New Mexico I have done this twice and they handled it perfectly both times!!! They have great products and their sales agents do their best to give everyone special attention. I had an issue with a pair of glasses I was trying to order and the wait times were long. I made it known that I wasn't getting enough information on why I was having to wait (over three months) and Brian reached out to me. Their motto should be "Perfection at a Price." Most of my clothes come from Goodwill or Target, but when it came time to put something on my FACE, I decided to go for the gold. After asking around, I went to Optix. I had red frames in mind, but they didn't have exactly what I pictured. Actually, they had something in red PRETTIER than what I'd pictured. They were also extremely lightweight, a big consideration given that I need progressive lenses--basically, trifocals but without the separation marks. The price was a heart-stopping $985...but then the friendly, efficient guy who was helping me asked if I had vision insurance. When I said no, the price dropped to $785. I gulped but reminded myself again that these frames would be on my face all day, every day. I'll economize on something else. Were they worth it? Very pleasant staff but unfortunately the customer service is lacking. Took over month to get frames due to lab error. Didn't like frames and attempted to return them in less than one week from receiving. Spoke to multiple employees and no one was aware of issues, as if conversations weren't documented. Proceeded to attempt to get contacts and during exam listened to eye doctor talk bad about me to staff. Finally gave up and had to go to competitor to have new eye exam and obtain new frames. Very unfortunate as Optix was recommended by a colleague. Based on experience strongly recommend you see a different establishment for your eye health and eye care needs. read more

Thanks to their opticians I was able to address a vision limiting issue much sooner than my ophthalmologist at the Eye Institute were able to provide . I came across this lovely optical store when looking at my trusting Yelp app for reviews/suggestions!! I sadly misplaced my old glasses and needed to replace them. I had only been to my eye doctor in my hometown and haven't ventured out in Milwaukee yet for my eye needs since moving. I considered ordering online, and looked at a lot of discount websites, but at the end of the day, I would rather pay more money to go in and pick out a perfect frame then just guessing based on pictures online, and possibly being disappointed with the look or the quality just to save some $... To start, heck yes, I'm a sucker for ambience. This store has a nice location on Downer Ave, which I am familiar with thanks to Hollander and BelAir on Downer as well as the Original Pancake House. Parking is just fine because there's some free, non-meter two-hour parking just around the corner. The inside of the store has a cute, crisp white interior with walls lined of glasses. Very chic! Which of course gets me excited right as I walk in :-) Optix on Downer offers a complete optical experience, with eye exams, custom made lenses with a decent-sized frame selection, and contacts. (I did not venture to the back area of the shop for an eye exam because I had recently previously had my prescription established at my hometown eye doctor... Optix called them to obtain my prescription info, which they had faxed over instantly). I discovered Optix does all their work on site, so you can expect to get your glasses in a timely fashion! That was important to me because I've had glasses take over a month before at other stores, which was frustrating. Now for the good part, the FRAMES... As their website advertises, Optix offers "Fashion frames from around the world." Forewarning, there are some pretty pricey brands here!! And at first I was confused why they did not carry your typical chain/retailer eyewear store designer brands, like Coach, Dior, Oakley, Ray Ban...I could go on and on, get my drift? Optix carries European collections which is probably why I had not heard of a lot of the labels. But just because I had not heard of them isn't a negative thing, I very well have just not been exposed to these brands before. They were all of excellent quality and very stylish!! They advertise on their website that "The Optix Team travels extensively to hand-select from the finest collections and designers on the market today." No appointment needed, I just walked in to start trying on frames. There were three girls working when I went in. All were super helpful! Even the ones who were not "assigned" to me stopped over as I was trying on glasses and gave me their knowledgable opinions... One even said "no, that's basic" LOL! It was great! I ended up being happiest with SALT and Oliver Peoples brands, and went with the OP. The workers were so helpful! They were also very patient and let me try on frames over and over...and OVER haha, I can be indecisive at times....they assisted me in finding the perfect pair and I am so happy with my purchase! I had been going to Metro Eye in the third ward and have been offically converted to Optix on Downer. I adopted a dog and the same day she excitedly tried to "hug" me and unintentionally scratched my eye when it was open. Dr. McGuinley saw me not only the same day when he had a fully schedule, he saw me within two hours! His schedule was full the following two days and he got me in before he started in the morning for a (free) follow up to make sure it was healing ok. When it wasn't he made sure I got seen by a specialist in Mequon within an hour. He gave me samples and ensured that it would be ok. My follow up at the specialist was free due to a "credit" on my account and I think it was from Optix on Downer. I have rarely had this type of high-quality, health care-related service. The staff and doctors at Optix didn't even know me and they made sure from start to finish that I was ok. I moved back to Milwaukee a year ago and have been to Metro Eye three times. While I never had a bad experience there, I never left feeling good. It was always more expensive than I anticipated and the way the doctors there spoke/interacted with me had me a little uneasy/unsure each time. It was such an odd, kind of off putting feeling that when my eye was scratched and it was a bit of a time sensitive situation I couldn't even handle considering going to them. They have a great selection and the service at Optix on Downer is unlike any I've experienced anywhere else. I have a very strong prescription and, for some reason, that means I have to wait weeks for glasses and, even though I pay extra for thin lenses, they never really are. I'd stopped at one of those chain places and the optician there couldn't figure out how Optix had made my lenses so thin. I was ordering reading glasses which aren't nearly as strong ass my regular glasses. I paid extra to get "thin" lenses but they weren't. Optix is more expensive but, for the quality product and service, well worth it. read more

I ended up at Optix On Downer due to Yelp reviews and the desire to find a good office experience with a good selection of frames. I after my pre-exam, which included more up-to-date technology than I have ever seen (a glaucoma test that didn't involve a puff of air in my eye and a dilation test that didn't leave me needing sunglasses when I left the office) I saw Dr. McGinley, and felt that he was up front with me after discussing my current vision challenges. I volunteered that during my last two exams elsewhere, I had been told that I should consider bifocals or progressives (but was not pushed to do so), and he gave me his perspective. Based on information about my computer work and the fact that I've increasingly felt the need to take my glasses OFF to read up close more comfortably, he shared his opinion that going to progressives or bifocals would potentially hinder my computer work. He also said that although my distance vision had become marginally worse, he was hesitant to correct it due to the fact that it would make reading up close even more of a challenge to me. I did decide to order some new frames and lenses since I was ready for a fresh look, and I found that they had a pretty comprehensive selection in their shop. I was also told that some frame styles in store were available in alternate colors, which was good to know, although personally I would want to try a pair of frames on in the actual color before selecting them. I can't say that the prices were better or worse than the last two places I went for glasses, but I am happy with the exam experience and the selection of frames at Optix On Downer. read more

I have been getting glasses for 40 years but this is my first experience with this place. I have become accustomed to being fitted carefully, with attention to how the bows fit my head and the nose piece sat on my nose. When I went in the first time, the person who worked with me paid a little attention to concerns of fit--not with the care I had come to expect but at least willing to answer questions. When I went in to pick up the finished glasses that person was primarily interested in getting my money. No concerns about the fit of the final product. Since this place is expensive, I had expected better. Also, as my partner learned, this is not the place to go if you want to use Medicare benefits for glasses after cataract surgery. I had a very good experience here. Friendly and knowledgeable staff helped me through every step of the way. My favorite is how they shared honest opinions about how different frames worked for me and even helped me pick out different frames to try. The optometrist was very knowledgeable and even hinted at factors that may be exacerbating my dry eyes and gave me tips on how to relieve the symptoms. This is my favorite optical shop in Milwaukee!! Always friendly service. You pay a lot for the frames but you get what you pay for. I had warby Parker frames from online for years and they kept breaking. In the long run I learned my lesson to get the quality ones you will see at Optix on downer. I got a brand called eye van from Japan that I had never heard of prior to my visit to Optix. They are retro but fabulous! Please give them a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Optix on Downer has the best selection of frames in the SE Wisconsin, hands down. They also have the best lenses I've ever had. I've purchased three pairs of glasses from them and the prescription is spot on each time. The frame selection is incomparable and the staff is helpful and not pushy, They understand that spending $700 isn't an everyday purchase, so they are patient and either help, or stay out of the way. I am giving Optix on Downer a high rating because the lenses I received when I purchased eyeglasses from them have incredible clarity. I do alot of reading for my job and so this is important to me. The glasses from Optix have the clearest lenses I have ever purchased from any eyeglass place. I have had my glasses from Optix for 4 years now and they are still in good shape. The customer service at Optix was also a great experience. Even though the particular frames I was looking for were not on display, the sales representative at Optix was willing to look through their available stock to find me the exact frames I wanted. The price tag is somewhat higher than most, but you get what you pay for in terms of quality and trendy fashion choices not available anywhere else! My exam went well, making an appointment was a breeze, and the staff is very polite. The frames are very expensive. When the doctor commented on how good my insurance was and that it'd "really put a dent in the price of the frames" I knew that the sales pitch was next. My insurance covers new frames up to $200. $200 is a dent? So I figure I'll just find basic frames. Unfortunately the sub-$200 selection didn't have any frames I liked. They provided me with my prescription and gave me no guff about pulling the ripcord. I headed elsewhere for the frames. I'll certainly continue to have my examinations here as I did get great service and liked the optometrist. read more

With a warm heart I gladly change my stance with optix on downer! I had an interesting misunderstanding that took place during a visit to the establishment (which is my comment further down) but since then I have exchanged messages back and forth with the owner, Brian. We are both aware that there was just a misunderstanding that took place. He was amazingly understanding and truly brought joy to my day! He honestly reinforced my faith in human compassion! THANK YOU! I visited their establishment to look into buying a pair of reading glasses. It seemed like a nice place at first, friendly, helpful and curtious. I asked to see some "reader" spectacles which they gladly supplied me with a selection of "eye-bobs" i found a frame i really liked. However, there were no lenses they said they would gladly install any magnification I'd like. They said it would be $200 for the glasses with the magnification lenses. So, i decided to think it over. After thinking about the fact that I would be using them quite a bit i should just pony up and buy them. Thats when things got a little strange. The girl that was helping me said one price wile the "manager" said aother. This seemed odd to me and made me skeptical. So, i decided to go out to the car and look the glasses up on line. Thats when I found out the price gap was huge! Normally the glasses cost $79 with a magnification of your choice. So, i am not quite sure why the upcharge? The spectacles are supposed to come with magnification lenses in them so to charge me to put lenses back in a pair that had none is a little outrageous. Not to mention the other price i was told was $99 wich is still $20 over what they should normally be changing. I decided not to do buisness with them. I found the glasses at another store near by with the lenses for $79. read more

This is the only place I shop for glasses. The staff is very helpful and isn't pushy. I love the trendy styles and good brands such as Oliver Peoples, Lafont, LA Eyeworks and Salt. I was wearing a trial pair of contacts, and lost one. Needed a new one ASAP. Unfortunately, my optometrist is in Madison. I called Optix and they were very helpful! She even offered to call my optometrist to get my prescription and called me back when everything was ready. New patients be wary. The smiles and friendly hellos that greet you at the door are a facade. If you are looking for a new optometrist who is interested in you as a person and your eye care needs this is not the place for you. Neither the tech nor Dr. Pham introduced themselves to me nor called me by my name. No one asked when the last time was I had an eye exam or what brought me to their establishment. There was no discussion about whether my existing contact lens and the eyeglass prescription were working for me - how many hours per day I wear my contacts or work at a computer or spend in the sun, etc. Dr. Pham is very quick to answer her own question of "which is better lens 1 or 2?" before you can process the quick flip of the lens she is saying " lens 2 right?" I must not have spoken loud enough because any information about my eyes I proactively shared with her she responded to with some fact about herself. She would be a great addition to a party as she has a great smile, can talk about nonsense and carry her own conversation. And as her answers to her own questions were generally accurate, I'm guessing she is a capable optometrist but as she never gets beyond herself it's tough to tell. For those of you, who like me, would like to have a provider who focuses on you and at least fakes an interest in you once a year for 30-45 minutes, this is not the place for an eye exam. read more

They have quite broad and quality frames/brands like Oliver Peoples, Salt. I've purchased 2 pairs of frames and 4 pairs of lenses from them within two years. They are very friendly, helpful and their service is excellent. They never push you, but try to explain pros and cons and leave the decision to you. You can even leave the shop without buying anything very comfortably, you get this impression/feeling and it's correct. Last week, I also had an eye exam and renewed my prescription.
