I love this place. The staff is very friendly and are not pushy when picking out frames. IT's almost as though they look forward to getting people who like to take their time in choosing the right frame. I have a really big fear of eye-balls. no joke. I don't even attempt to mess with the contact lenses cause I freak out at the thought of my eyeball being touched. During a test where there is some sort of object that gets really close to eye..almost touching it.. I began to freak out and prolonged the test for ten minutes. Yet the Doctor was so patient with me. He didn't get frustrated or flustered. He just kept trying to finish the procedure. I love my glasses. I get compliments on them all the time. They are not super flashy or glittery with large symbols on them. Simple, lightweight, comfy and compliment the shape of my face. Truly an awesome staff. read more

They are easy to get along with and they really listen to your concerns. b) Dr Hsieh and his team had experience with Lasik before. This was important to me because I had a procedure over a decade ago when the procedure was still very new. My vision has regressed since though. c) The selection. So for me, finding good glasses is like finding a good baseball cap. Virtually impossible. Maybe it's the shape of my head. I never got to see the dr. so I can't comment about him, but the receptionist is not helpful/pleasant at all. I called in for an appointment a week in advance and when I got there at the agreed upon day and time they told me my appointment was for another week. When I told the receptionist that the appointment was made on the phone for this date she just gave me a shrug and went back to the computer. No apologies. no offer to help fix the problem. I don't think that's good costumer service. Definitely not returning. Too bad, missing out on a cash patient. read more

My family and I have been going to Dr. Hsieh for a few years now, and I always look forward to our visits. Dr. Hsieh is extremely thorough, and he always takes the time to explain what he is doing, why he is doing it, and he even gives you a bigger picture scenario. He is friendly and knowledgeable and happily answers any and all questions. As for the staff, they are by far, the friendliest that I've ever come across! Jahmae is the first person to greet you when you walk in usually. She makes you feel welcome, and she is very knowledgeable and thorough when she checks your insurance. I love this optometry! I always come in last minute, which is completely unplanned, and they ALWAYS come on top. Aidan explains everything thoroughly and is extremely helpful. We had to fly out within a week and needed two glasses ready, he put it in a rush order, which we weren't really sure we will get it but tried nonetheless. Love this place. Everyone there is extremely nice and very professional with flare. They have an amazing selection of frames. And their service is beyond compare. I honestly couldn't say enough nice things. They will sit down with you find the perfect frames and will even talk things with you in exactly what you like. They don't pressure to get the higher end frames. The exams are quick and if you like chatting, they'll chat you up through the whole thing which makes it all the better. Updated review. This place is kind of expensive when trying to get contacts and glasses. I was use to getting contacts one year and contacts the next year but here you have to get both. Every year you have to get a contact fitting for $75 with glasses. So you end up spending like $110 with the cheapest glasses. Contacts are not included with the fitting. The staff tried to sell me 1-year or 6-month supply of contacts but did't tell that me can buy one buy at a time(which I wanted to do). If you get the 1-year your looking to come out of pocket: total of $310. That means every year I have to buy $310 if I want contacts. Your prescription only last year so if you want contacts every year, you have to pay $75 each time. Overall I had a great experience here. I found this optometry because of the location being right of the freeway on my way home from work. I feel like this place took my eye care to the next level. The lobby area is really nice and new. The assistant did number of test on my eye that were never done. The doctor was really nice and informative. He helped me to understand what he was doing to my eyes. It was really cool that now your able to take pictures of your eyes. Also love the selection of glasses and it was great to have someone help me with picking a perfect glasses. I like instead me looking around the assistant choose glasses that's would fit my face so I didn't spend hours looking for glasses. I hope I have the same great experience when I go back to get my contact lens. read more

Came in to get some new frames and was so satisfied with the staff here! They're all kind and knowledgeable and even though I was a walk-in, the frames expert was available to help me almost immediately! He was also very skilled at picking out frames that looked great on me-something I have trouble with at other frame shops- instead of trying to sell me the most expensive or popular frames, he went about the store and collected plenty of different options-from a plentiful supply- for me to try on. I'm more satisfied with the frames I have now than any other pair I've had before! On top of all that, it was a really reasonable price. Wow! So impressed with service, environment, selection of glasses, everything! I recently had a Lasik and my insurance covers sunglasses for me. I tried different locations and had so much trouble explaining to them that I do have coverage with my insurance. Also, I couldn't find stylish sunglasses that I like in any East bay locations. Hopelessly before going to SF, I gave this location a shot as well. I walked in at 12.45pm and walked out with my awesome Gucci glasses at 1.05pm! Mae greeted me pleasantly and while I was looking at the glasses not that she pulled up my insurance benefit with no problem and extra question, she also resolved a block on my account! Like in 2 min!!!! After that, Aiden helped me to find my sunglasses. He listened carefully to what I want and walked me through about 10 different sunglasses and guess what! I stumbled across El Sobrante Optometry by pure chance and I'm happy that I did. My friend asked me to pick up his prescription sunglasses for him. As I entered, I couldn't help but notice the comfy interior design and the friendly smile of the receptionist. I decided to ask them if they had any free appointments and luckily they said I could see Dr. Hsieh later that afternoon. Dr. Hsieh knows what he's talking about and happily answered all of my questions. He also tends to use the very latest in technology and tries to educate you throughout the exam. The rest of the staff was also really nice and they help me pick out the perfect frames again and again. I always get compliments on my frames and I have Aiden to thank. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to see Dr. Hsieh for a while because I was away at school but now that I'm back in the Bay, I'll be sure to pay them a visit at El Sobrante Optometry soon. read more

Unfortunately I'll need to find another optometrist . Even though ESO is conveniently located near to my house and Dr. Hsieh seems competent enough, there are just too many negatives to overlook. First of all their services are very expensive compared to other providers! Secondly, Dr. Hsieh and his staff are very aggressive with their upselling. This rating is for the super friendly staff as I did not have the pleasure of getting eye examination from Dr. Hsieh. I have been going to a different optometrist but was a bit turned off by the staff there, so I gave El Sobrante Optometry a try. I am very glad I went there! Despite the fact that I was there pretty close to their closing time, the guy who works there (I think his name was Aiden?) took the time to show me many many affordable and cute frames. He made sure that we stayed under my budget and was very very patient while I took a long time choosing a frame. I have always hated shopping for frames, but he made the experience much better. I finally got tired of my old spot who I won't mention and came to Eye Love for a better experience and eyeglass selection. The customer service here is like no other I've experienced. He made sure I was completely happy with my contact lens fit and able to work with multifocal contacts. My time with Adrian, Frame Stylist Extraordinaire, was fantastic. Thank goodness for his "Selective Perfectionism"! Stocking up, I purchased two sets of frames - one his choice and one mine. Everyone loves Adrian's Choice. I am so glad I listened to him! Zayda & Virginia are always welcoming and friendly, making sure all the details are handled properly. The office is comfortable and I never had to wait long. The trip from the Napa area to El Sobrante Optometry is absolutely worth it! The office is right off the highway and easy to find. I'm brand-new to the area, and I have to admit that I was visually seduced into the office from fairly frequent Chipotle runs. First thing I really liked about the office was that my insurance was pre-verified before I came in, and I just needed to sign off some liability forms/patient history. Very quick and easy--didn't need to waste time on presenting ID's or medical insurance cards, which was a big plus. Dr. Hsieh was interesting in that he, himself, brought me back to the pre-exam area and his office. I've worked in optometrics, and his equipment is very advanced and brand-new (some apparati I had never even seen before). His exam room was exceptionally clean, and his "manual" refractor was completely computerized and very fast--he had a perfect prescription ready in probably 3 minutes. Start-to-finish, my exam took about 10-15 minutes; and this was with Dr. Hsieh explaining every step of the exam. Being in healthcare, and a teacher, I think this is just so important that patients know exactly what is happening and why during their exams. No awkward silences, either (and I am the master of these). I was also happy that there was no judgement passed when I turned down a diagnostic test right at the end of my exam (and that Dr. Hsieh informed me of the billing up front). No pressure for this broke teacher. :) And finally Aidan, the optician was really excellent. He seems to really understand a face and can immediately read a person's personal style. Although I had a very specific style of frame in mind, he showed me a few frames that I probably would not have picked out, myself. If you're ever in a position where you're not sure what frame is best for you, I would recommend him. Overall, a really great experience; I'm so happy to know that there is such a great practice so close to my house (and I can get dinner on my way out, ha!). I needed new glasses since mine was 2 years old so I wanted to find an eye doctor that was close to my area. I was seen on a Sat afternoon. Everyone in the office was friendly and Dr Hsieh was very patient and explained everything clearly throughout the process. The modern office with everything looking new. It's a pretty hip place. I got an exam and new glasses. There were lots of nice, trendy , and brand name glasses available to choose from. I was a little annoyed with the parking situation though. It was so difficult to get a parking spot due to the parking area being very congested. It gets busy since since Trader Joe's is literally next door. The doctor was very good, very professional. Unfortunately, when my glasses came in, the person who helped (??) me was not interested in putting any more effort in assuring that my glasses fit me properly. He just handed over my glasses and went back to what he was doing. When I asked him about fitting, he acted as if I was imposing on him, he took my glasses, heated them and bent them and handed them back. He didn't bother to assure they fit properly and made it clear that he had done all that he was willing to do. I have NEVER had such extremely poor service at an optometrist before! My wife wanted Anne et Valentin glasses. They have great selection and superb service selecting the right frames and lenses. This review is long overdue-my family and I are long time patients (since 2009). Dr. Hsieh has always been a great health provider by explaining all your options and what each test means. The staff has always been helpful (problems sometimes do occur (like contact lens [manufacturing] problems, order issues) but they work with you and go the extra mile to make you a happy customer).
