We were in a bind, we had two months notice that our rental was going to be sold and needed to find some place to live. Found a place but not enough space for our stuff, enter ESS. They had a pair of units available in the sizes we needed and along with their availability made this an easy decision. Now the initial cost was acceptable for each (both were not the same size), but then inflation brought the cost per unit up somewhat, and although that wasn't the main reason behind moving out after 6 months (we actually found a place to call our own). The units were clean and we felt secure that our belongings would be safe onsite. The only "complaints" I have would be that online it stated that they had climate controlled units at this facility, they, they did not. The other is that they're not "open" past 10pm (not terrible, it's just tough when I work the late shift at my job). read more

So Mark is absolutely wonderful... I've had my unit for well over 4 1/2 years. But I came down one day to clear out some of my storage and use the dumpster and a woman named Abby was extremely unhelpful... She told me she did not have keys to the dumpster even though I pay well over $300 a month for my unit told me that she would not be willing to get keys, that she didn't know who had the keys and that she would absolutely not call anyone to come down and open the dumpster for me... This experience has single-handedly made me consider clearing out my storage of four years and finding someplace else with better help. DON'T RENT FROM THIS PLACE!! They seem nice and helping when you first inquire with them but after you put your payment in and move your stuff it will all go down hill from there. I rented a unit when i moved out of Tracy and had to store some things. It has only been approximately 5 months and my rate jump without any notice what so ever. I get email notice from them every month for when my payment is due and apparently they send out notice through mail. I forward my mail to new location and i never got it. When i paid the month before they made no attempt to mention it to me. I don't have a problem paying 160 for unit but with that excused my language (BULL SHIT) of an excused we mailed it of the increase I made the payment of the increase and put in my notice of removing my items. THEY ARE DIRTY RAT PEOPLE. THEY WILL LURE YOU AND MAKE IT NOT WORTH YOUR WILD IN THE END. CAUTION STAY AWAY!! I rented at many different places before and never had a problem. I was very please with the service I received from Extra Space Storage. This was a last minute need and I wasn't sure what I really needed. I contacted Extra Space online and received a call from the local office within minutes of reserving a unit. When I went to look at the units, the manager and assistant were extremely friendly and helpful. They explained the monthly fees to me in a very thorough manner. Explained the the rate will be after my lease period would expire and what I could do to get a better rate when the lease expires. I appreciate the fact that the manager lives on site and that the property is very well kept. I would recommend Extra space to everyone who needs a storage unit. PS - You can pay for your monthly rental online too, which is a huge plus for me!!! read more

I needed a lot of space to house the contents of my family home that I inherited and was being sold. I was devastated and dealing with this large task was the last thing I needed. Extra Space in Tracey was very accommodating and friendly which made the process much easier on me. For move-in they have a big truck that you can use and the staff were very patient with me forgetting my codes and losing my keys. I would definitely recommend this establishment. read more

RAT INFESTED!!! Do not rent here. I had a unit for approximately one year. When it came time for me to clear out my stuff, I discovered the rat problem and by that time it was too late! Completely infested with rat crap and urine. There was even a dead rat in the unit. I had not purchased their insurance plan and apparently it wouldn't have mattered if I had since the plan does not include rodent damage. Just horrible to find your stuff ruined by rats. You store items that mean something to you and that you intend you use at some point and it is completely devistating to find them ruined in such a manner. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! Seriously, as a customer for over a year, I was finally able to move my 5 items out of storage. When it came time to move out, I didn't have my key to open the lock (I understand i should've had it, but i thought cutting the lock would've been an easy process). This is when shit went downhill ^ I only dealt with 2 people there. Mark and some lady who said "this isn't her store" Mark: A legit down to earth guy. 5/5 for him. He's the only reason why this is a 2 star review. If upper management reads this, Mark deserves a raise. I called him 2 days before moving out with a lot of questions. He answered them all and didnt give me that feeling like "Screw u since ur leaving" The lady (sorry i didnt get her name): 0/5 and this is why.. So Mark had to do an errand for the company so he was gone when i needed the lock to be cut. The lady had me sign some authorization to have the lock cut. Once that was done we went outside. I noticed the lady have some medical strap on both of her wrist with bolt cutters. She started on the lock, but it was obvious she was struggling. My dad offered to help, but she kept refusing as if she didn't want help & had an attitude about it. After about 5 minutes of this, she said she couldn't do it and we had to wait for Mark to get back with other tools.. Since she had made some progress in the lock, i ok'd, but asked if we could keep trying ourselves in the meantime. She said no we have to wait. I asked why. She said because we couldn't do it. I thought wtf? We didn't even try. So then i asked if we could try anyways. She then said no because it's in the contract that only they can do it.. At this point i knew she didn't give a shit.. She didn't even apologize for the long time waiting for her to get the lock, or for the fact that Mark wasn't there. She literally acted like a McDonald's cashier who doesn't give any Fcks about you. This past week i called Extra storage space twice. The first time (2 days ago) i spoke to Mark. The 2nd time (today) i spoke to the lady. HUGE DIFFERENCE when talking to both. I wasn't sure if i would be able to move my stuff out before my due date & one of the responses from her was "it's just ---$, you can just pay it and have the whole month to move your stuff." 1) Thats pretty obvious. 2) uhh i don't have money to just throw away. Again, it's something you would say if you don't want to deal with the problem. Last couple of points: - price increased 2 times throughout the year - spiders in the storage unit. Just daddy long legs tho so it's manageable. TL;DR - Mark is cool - When u move out you might have some problems - expect price increases throughout the year read more

Update: While I wanted to move our belongings the items belong to my brother who is currently out of state and not available to move his things. You need to be aware that they increase their unti rentals each year at least 20% and sometimes twice a year. read more

I recently rented a unit and was very pleased with the service until today. I needed to move out of my unit on Sunday, the gate information stated that the gate is open from 6 - 10 - everyday. I had coordinated help to assist me to load my belongings and when I arrived on Sunday at 6 PM, the gate wouldn't open. Another individual with a unit aproached and tried his entrance code and the gate wouldn't open for him either. I used the on-site Customer Service Box and it only rang - no response. I called the 1-888 number posted on the gate and followed the prompts to emergency assistance. I was informed that the only emergencies they could assist with was for flood or fire and that they couldn't assist me. I called back and spoke with a different after hours rep. Matt and he said he would place a message with the local office, however, he didn't know if they would respond until Monday. I needed to be out of my unit Sunday night and on the road to my new job and now because of the lack of response and accountability of Extra Space Storage, I am not able to meet the schedule my new employer had requested. I would not rent here again if they are not able to have a response team available for equipment / computer failures. read more

WARNING! This place uses near criminal business practices and the storage facility is roach and rodent infested. The walls of the unit shed this disgusting saw dust like material and it coats everything. This area gets hot and the unit heat up like a humid oven and if you have furniture or collectibles you will find them ruined and moldy. Every few months they raise the rent-it's not affordable or convenient. I pay every month online on the 10th for ten years now and they still harass me with phone calls, emails and lock me out between the 6th and the 10th. I've called and they seem to be corporate mouthpieces and don't follow through on their end of the contract. Now I'm stuck...and they know it! When I started with them I was told I could donate my units for auction should renting no longer be a viable option for me...now I'm threatened with collections and ruining my credit rating should I leave them. My rates for 2 ten by tens went from $80 to $165 now. I ask them not to call, they do! They don't spray for spiders and bugs like they promised! They lock you out 10 minutes before closing and you are stuck there for the night! No one answers the intercom or the phone. You are screwed if you use this business and they know they've got you and it's so frustrating! I noticed the current reviews aren't showing up and hope that YELP isn't allowing monopoly consumer-abusers like this to buy and expunge reviews. read more
