They do not have set price increases, but your rate will double in 3 months then 6 months. No chart to explain pricing or a set percentage increase overtime. They falsely advertise low rates. We started at $62 for a unit and now it's $106. Other unit also went up, no reasonable person should tolerate. I believe what they are doing is illegal. read more

Hidden gem of a storage space. Great service good prices and super helpful people there. Call or just catch someone in the office for a very safe place to store lots of stuff. This is one of my favorite thoughtfully engineered/ designed storage space, it even uses clean energy because it has solar power modules way up on the metal roofs.. read more

The facility was very clean and very nice. The people were great to work with and I had no problems at all in that regard. The only thing I would say that I did not like is that when you sign up you cannot sign for a contract and it is month to month. This means that they can increase your rate whenever they want and they did this pretty consistently over the years I used this facility. I would highly recommend this facility for short term use but if you are looking for long term I would say shop around. read more

My complaint is with the company, not the location. The location is cmanaged well, and my unit and the path leading to it are clean and well lit. However, the company's policy is to alert customers of rate increases, not by email, but by a postcard in the mail. People are more likely not to pay much attention to a postcard, especially when it arrives in a batch of junk mail. In my case, this resulted in a surprise rate increase of nearly double the previous rate. It was the second rate increase in just 5 months. I'm very unhappy about this, and I'm going to quickly make other arrangements for my storage. read more

At end Oct 2021 I  Got a great deal over the phone for a unit at Affton ESS, large enough for a mid-size SUV 1997 Mercury Mountaineer. Contract price quoted and paid $165/mo...addl charges plus deoisit, their mandatory content insurance, their $11 pad-lock. It is now 4mos since original agreement of $160/mo lasted 3mos... Payment is automatically payable through credit card required at sign-up. It is now March...my $160/mo has increased 42.5% since Oct 27 2021. New rate: $235. Im afraid this is the business model of storage places in general but Rent. Put your stuff in unit. Out of site out of mind. That's the renter's view. EXTRA SPACE STORAGE though, fully knowing their intent to escalate, neglected to indicated this great an increade this early in a rental period . ESS on-site attendant shrugged and said "what the market rate would bare is the rate current customers will be paying". Fair enough. Just should've been top of PAGE-1. ESS should've been more transparent of likely or intended rates of increases new renters will definitely see, possibly very early in their term. ESS should've just admitted that they intended the 40% increase each 3-mos. Most renters would not expect so quick an increase and won't notice increase at first due to auto-pay. Just be honest and upfront at the sign-up moment. Place is neat and new. Bright and clean. Well maintained because it's new. Should've stated sign-up rate will be VERY temporary. read more

Everyone was friendly until a structural issue caused water to flow into my locker. "Should've gotten rental insurance," you say? Well, the structural issues of a building are the responsibility of the facility, and not the rental insurance's liability, according to the insurance and the lawyer(s) I called. The only thing that was completely ruined was my couch...this was an indoor, climate controlled unit, mind you...and they refused to cover it. Seeing as a lawyer would've cost more than replacing the couch, I just sucked it up. But I'd advise picking any other place. Especially if you're going to pay damn near 70$ a month for climate controlled access...you deserve better than a leaky foundation, managers who knew it had happened before but didn't inform you (Oh, it flooded, but we "fixed" it) and general boredom/eye-rolling at your complaints. No manager/owner could be found until I called the city...and then, the number was not left. Avoid this place at all costs...or just plan on getting new furniture. read more

DO NOT use this storage facility. We rented a unit 6 weeks ago to store extras while we list our house. Last week we opened the unit to find that it's is infested with cockroaches. We informed them of the infestation and it's been 5 days and they still have not had a pest control company there. We are having to go through every item in every box and much of our items are being thrown out to ensure we don't move the infestation into our new home! Completely dissatisfied!! read more
