This is an absolutely horrible storage facility with shady business practices! My daughter rented a storage unit for her apartment furnishings over the summer, and when we returned for the fall semester, her ENTIRE unit was infested with rats and insects. There were droppings and urine stains everywhere, and the smell was horrid enough to gag a hippopotamus. There was nearly $2,000 worth of damage from all the rat urine and droppings. I had to extend my stay to help my daughter clean out the unit, and we had to replace all of her damaged property. Lou, the attendant at the storage facility, told us he would take care of the situation and issue a refund for at least half of the rental fees. Instead, for the last two months, he has jerked us around and lied to us multiple times. Initially, my adult daughter tried to resolve this with Lou, but he kept dodging her calls and eventually blocked her number. Then I had to get involved, since there was no way for her to contact him. He told me he was issuing a refund for the rent that day. When I called back a few days later to tell him we hadn't received it, I found out he had blocked my number as well. I had to call from four different phone numbers over the course of two-plus weeks, constantly hounding him to do what he promised. Again and again, he said he would "take care of it," but then promptly blocked the phone I had called from. After all of this, he still only refunded a fraction of what he said he would. If you care about your belongings, DO NOT rent from this facility. Check out the other reviews! There are many complaints about rat- and mouse-infested units. To top it all off, the customer service is non-existent. You'll be jerked around, lied to, and have your number blocked so they don't have to talk to you. Initially, I was very patient with Lou, but after two months of dealing with his lies, I am done with this man and this disgusting storage facility. The location off 19th Ave and Peoria has rats. I was not told that they have rats upon moving the belonging to non-profit into one of the units. However, when I went to move things to an storage facility with air condition I found this to be the case. My non profit goes out 2-3x a year to feed the homeless. So we store clothing, shoes, , blankets, hygiene products, etc in the storage. Unfortunately, I had to throw all of the clothes, and several other items away after finding them covered in rat fesses, several baby rates stored in a Ben of clothes and a dead rat in the corner of my storage that had been dead a little while as it had grown maggots. When I asked if they were aware they had rats the employee responded yes. When asked why I wasn't told about the rats upon moving in I was told because take care of them weekly. She then went on to say you had the insurance which covers rat damage. I know hove to postpone going out into the community as we have to start collecting donations all over again. Which is disappointing knowing the homeless population is growing by the thousands daily. read more

Office person informational and helpful. Broke everything down for me, even the things the people didn't break down over the phone. Such as the monthly rate increase after 3-5 months. Definitely check online for rates first then call to check out the storage in person. It's super quick and gives you a good idea of how much space is best for you. Have to pay first month and fees up front and then have to set a date to schedule the monthly payment or else there's a fee to change it later. Update: 01/03/23 I'm disgusted. There's rodent sh*t in the storage area. I am TERRIFIED of rats and mice so knowing that I stepped in their sh*t it was more intense knowing that the storage area is infested...This weird yellow powder was all over the walkway. The last two times I went to my storage I was putting in my pin to get out the gate and I could hear screaming/yelling coming from the managers home right there. I get it, it's his home for the time being, but it's literally on the property right next to the gate where everyone passing can hear you. Super awkward and uncomfortable having to briefly hear that. Also, they are suuuuuper pushy for reviews. I get it, looks great but when you say you can leave a review while I'm doing blah blah blah and then ask if it got done before giving the go to leave...yeah so uncomfortable and I hate being pushed to do stuff I prefer not to do. read more

RATS! RATS! RATS! RATS! RATS! RATS! Rats and maggots ruined hundreds of dollars of my personal belongings. Manager is aware of the problem but apparently has no solution. I was forced to move at great expense but was only compensated for half of the month that was unused. Homeless living in units, bathing in the driveways. UPDATE: So like some of the other reviews I found they raised the rent within just a few months. I forgot to make a payment, (Jan 5th after the busy holiday season) and then stopped getting the email reminders. I received an email 32 days later and called right away. I had already been charged an $85 Lein Sale fee that per Gary the manager "could not be taken off". I called the 800 number and the district manager Anthony called me back a few days later. You can tell the service or lack of service rolls from the top because he was even less helpful than the rude onsite manger Gary. I used to have a 5 star review for them but after seeing how they really treat customers that make an honest mistake I had no option but to change my review. With so many options for self storage I would suggest going with any place but Extra Space Storage. read more

Went in this weekend to rent a storage for the very first time . I believe the guy that helped me was Chance but he was super friendly, showed me the storage before any paperwork was done. Stay away from this place. Yes I have several axes to grind. This location is on a street with many other storage options. The facility is nothing special. The lighting in the hallway where my storage unit is located doesn't work. I was promised it would be repaired - 4 months ago when I moved in. Makes it difficult to visit the unit after dark, which is pretty early in Phoenix in the winter. This location (April 2012) is undergoing a blacktop renovation and repainting. I have received repeated notices that access to my unit would be restricted, but no details are provided. I guess you have to call and find out if you can get in first. And what better time for them to arbitrarily raise my rent, when I can't get in to move my stuff out, amirite? And that's what Extra Space Storage did - 4 months after move-in, my bill shows a large, 20% rent increase. I opted for the all-online program, and I signed up for, signed a rental agreement, receive my bills and pay them - all online. However, Extra Storage claims they sent my rent increase notice by snail mail, which I have not received. The manager, Gary, claims that rent increases each 6 months are "a mandatory policy." I told him I was not notified of such a policy when I moved in. I asked him to lower my rent back to what it was, and he refused. He would not give me the name of his supervisor, only their general 800 customer service number. I also counted out loud the number of months since I moved in - four - and he still claimed I'd been in the unit 6 months. Other online reviews show that Extra Space is known for jacking people's rents up shortly after move-in. Stay away from shady outfits like this - Phoenix has lots of storage choices. read more

This is a convenient and easily accessible storage facility which I chose in part for the price. My experience with the local management when signing up was efficient, friendly and easy. HOWEVER, within several months of renting my space they sent me a monthly rate increase of 15%. They have every right to do that under the rental agreement, but it sure feels like a bait and switch (given the initial competitive rate). Beware. read more
